Errm. . Ogbeni, have we met before cos me I no see the need for aggression wey you dey carry come. I've only stated my observations about Mendy. I don't know how you watch your football but those with trained eyes will agree with majority of what I've said.

There are artists and there are athletes. Mendy falls into the latter category. He's got incredible motor and physicality but his technical ability is limited. I said limited, i did not say non-existent.

When I say technical ability, I mean skills like passing, crossing, vision, ball retention or to use the vogue word press resistance ( that ability to hold the ball under pressure), first touch, ball control etc. You get the picture. Of all the above, Crossing is the only major aspect where he scores above average.

Out of curiosity, I just checked Mendy's Who scored page and even they assigned a calculated weakness of " holding on to the ball" for him. His passing accuracy has never hit the 90's. In his best season to date, he had a PA of 78%. Now All this for someone who started his career as a DM. If that is not limited technical ability, I don't know what it is. You can compare with technically-gifted fullbacks like Kimmich and Alaba to see the difference.

I'm not rating Mendy just yet but I see potentials of him being the best wing back in Epl, even in the world in coming seasons, certainly he has lot of things to improve but saying he has average footballing IQ is too much of a criticism just to defend whoever they compare him too

You see the way Mendy is interpreting that left back to middle new role, yet someone would say he has no football IQ.. How has Barcelona style of play helped Semedo to cut back or square play ball into the box as perfect as Alba would do easily, Mendy should be praised for his IQ, not the other way round

Alonso obviously has greater goal threat than Mendy- he doesn't even have to enter the box to score. He has long shots in his locker, He has nodding in his locker, he can place the ball accurately like a number 9, and he scores freekicks..

I think that we're giving too much credit to Mendy and Alonso in terms of pull outs.

Pep like Conte plays a system and instructs the wingbacks to cross the ball into a particular area. He has also instructed his players to make specific runs to those areas.

Mendy was injured most of last season and Sane was the one providing the width for Mancity and many of his assists were cutbacks and crosses into the same areas Mendy has been putting the ball this season.

I'm not saying they're both not good going forward...I'm only pointing out how both are playing in an automated system.

Imo Alonso edges out Mendy because of his added goal threat. That guy is a striker playing at left back for real.

you need IQ to understand the role being given, how many did Moses and zappacosta successfully provide under conte.
