PoliticsPope Francis Calls For The Abolition Of Life Imprisonment by HighBK(op): 9:48am On Oct 30, 2014
Pope Francis has called for abolition of life imprisonment that offers revenge for victims instead of pursuing true justice. He told representatives from the International Association of Penal Law:

‘It is impossible to imagine that states today cannot make use of another means than capital punishment to defend peoples’ lives from an unjust aggressor.Media and politicians advocated ‘violence and revenge, public and private, not only against those responsible for crimes, but also against those under suspicion, justified or not’ Catholic teaching does not proscribe capital punishment.’All Christians and men of good faith are therefore called upon today to fight, not only for the abolition of the death penalty – whether it is legal or illegal and in all its forms… and this, for me, is linked to life sentences. A sentence of life (without parole) is a hidden death penalty.’

Politics9ice Gives Out Bottled Palm Wine & Alomo For Election Campaign by HighBK(op): 9:23am On Oct 30, 2014
9ice is not joking with this campaign. The “Gongo Aso” hitmaker partner up with Leolas Ramas Industries to produce bottled drinks for his fans, and this is what we call “stomach infrastructure”.

See the refreshment they made for former singer turned politician Abolore Adegbola Akande aka 9ice’s campaign.

Do you see this as a good strategy or a bad one?

The interesting thing about this album is that M.I is dropping it without releasing any single off the LP. He is definitely the first Nigerian artiste to pull of a move like that and we hope it pays off.

Modified: Guy Scott is the First Sub-sahara White President in Since Apartheid. Thanks @tbaba1234 for pointing this out

Zambian Vice-President Guy Scott has been named acting leader following the death of President Michael Sata.
Presidential elections to choose a permanent successor will be held within 90 days, Defence Minister Edgar Lungu said.

Mr Scott, who is of Scottish descent, becomes Africa’s first white head of state for many years.
Mr Sata died in the UK aged 77 after receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Read Scott’s full details below:
Often disparagingly referred to as the “ceremonial vice-president”
He was born in 1944 in what was then Northern Rhodesia after father emigrated from Glasgow to work as a doctor on the railways
A Cambridge-trained economist, he entered politics in 1990 joining the MMD which won the first multiparty elections the next year
As agricultural minister he oversaw the recovery from a devastating drought in 1992/93
He joined Michael Sata’s Patriotic Front (PF) in 2001
Appointed vice-president in September 2011 after the PF’s election victory
As his parents were not born in Zambia, a constitutional clause requiring the president to be a “third generation” Zambian may nullify any attempt to run for president

FoodThe Amazing Story Of The Lobster ; From Grass To Grace by HighBK(op): 6:25am On Oct 28, 2014
The surprising history—from food for the poor, servants, and prisoners to a soldier’s staple to everybody’s idea of a delicacy—of “the cockroach of the ocean.” Or, one of the most remarkable rebrandings in product history.

Summary:
Until the mid-1800s, lobster was considered a terrible, low-class food. It was frequently served to prison inmates, and servants often had conditions in their employment contracts stating that they refused to eat lobster more than twice a week.
Some states even had laws against serving lobsters to prisoners more than a few times per week, since it was considered a cruel punishment, similar to being forced to eat rats.

Have you eaten a menu with lobster before? Expensive, right? But worth every kobo. It's just so delicious!
It wasn’t always like this. If today’s lobster wears a top hat and an opera cape, 80 years ago he was wearing overalls and picking up your garbage. Lobster is a self-made creature, and quite the social climber.

Lobsters were so abundant in the early days—residents in the Massachusetts Bay Colony found they washed up on the beach in two-foot-high piles—that people thought of them as trash food. It was fit only for the poor and served to servants or prisoners. In 1622, the governor of Plymouth Plantation, William Bradford, was embarrassed to admit to newly arrived colonists that the only food they “could presente their friends with was a lobster … without bread or anyhting else but a cupp of fair water” (original spelling preserved). Later, rumor has it, some in Massachusetts revolted and the colony was forced to sign contracts promising that indentured servants wouldn’t be fed lobster more than three times a week.

“Lobster shells about a house are looked upon as signs of poverty and degradation,” wrote John J. Rowan in 1876. Lobster was an unfamiliar, vaguely disgusting bottom feeding ocean dweller that sort of did (and does) resemble an insect, its distant relative. The very word comes from the Old English loppe, which means spider. People did eat lobster, certainly, but not happily and not, usually, openly. Through the 1940s, for instance, American customers could buy lobster meat in cans (like spam or tuna), and it was a fairly low-priced can at that. In the 19th century, when consumers could buy Boston baked beans for 53 cents a pound, canned lobster sold for just 11 cents a pound. People fed lobster to their cats.

Admittedly, lobster was cooked dead back then, like most meats, and not live, as it is now, which is perhaps how it got so tasty. But more on that later.
What’s interesting is that just because a food is delicious doesn’t necessarily make it popular. (As David Foster Wallace wrote in his famous 2004 article “Consider the Lobster,” “The meat is richer and more substantial than most fish, its taste subtle compared to the marine-gaminess of mussels and clams.”)

So how did lobster move up in the world? Basically, it worked like this. In the early days, lobster was plentiful, so abundant it was cheap to prepare and good nutritious food to serve to servants and the incarcerated. Maine was dotted with lobster canneries in the 1800s. Back then, lobsters were huge. Factories considered four- or five-pound lobsters too small. But, in the words of Maine’s Department of Marine Resources, “canneries were so efficient at processing that they were soon forced to work with smaller lobsters.”
But lobsters were still abundant, even if smaller. And when the railways started to spread through America, transportation managers realized something interesting: If no one knew what lobster was, trains could serve it to passengers as if it were a rare, exotic item, even thought it was very cheap for those running the railroad to procure it. Inland passengers were intrigued. This lobster was delicious. Passengers, who didn’t know lobster was considered trash food on the coast, started to love it and began to ask for it even after they left the train. It became a popular food. By the 1880s chefs had discovered that lobster was a lot better, and looked a lot more appetizing, if they cooked it live than if they killed it first and cooked it later. Restaurants first started to serve lobster in the 1850s and ’60s in the salad section, like bread and butter pickles or cottage cheese.

And then something interesting happened. Americans had started to like lobster, even in this cheap-o salad bar way, and so they demanded more of it. And fishermen noticed there were fewer lobster, driving the price up
But the lobster didn’t entirely lose its trailer trash reputation. During the Great Depression, impoverished families in Maine would sneak down to the ocean in the dark to empty and reset their lobster traps and take home the day’s haul to feed their families. It was still seen, at least in Maine, as a food for the poor. It was considered embarrassing for children to have to go to school with sandwiches made of lobster meat.
During World War II, however, lobster wasn’t rationed like other foods, and so people of all classes began to eat it enthusiastically, and discover its deliciousness. By the 1950s lobster was firmly established as a delicacy; lobster was something movie stars ate when they went out to dinner. It was the sort of thing girls from new-rich families ordered for their weddings, something the Rockefellers served at their parties.
In most restaurants now the lobster sells at “market rate,” as it says on the menu, and people eat lobster meals on picnic tables near the ocean in Maine or Cape Cod, thinking this is the way a fancy New England vacation should play out. And, indeed, it is. As Foster Wallace wrote, “Lobster is posh, a delicacy, only a step or two down from caviar.”

Okay, so you think you don’t lie? Wait till you read this.

FORMS OF LIE
(i) Flattery- Praise that is not sincere or an excessive praise. A covered lie in a bed of flowery words to make it ‘Behind’ and fanciful. So you think it’s cool to flatter? I don’t think so:
Psalms 12:3 The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things (KJV)
Job 32:21-22 I don’t know how to be unfair or to flatter anyone— if I did, my Creator would quickly destroy me!(Contemporary English Version) “Call a spade a spade”

(ii ) Exaggeration- Making someone/ greater, something/ larger than it really is. Making a mountain out of a mole hill.
This will only cost you your integrity, because people won’t take your words for it.
“Call a spade a spade”

(iii) Half-truth- A statement that is only partly true and that is intended to deceive people. Half-truth is total dishonesty. Telling the whole truth preserves your integrity. “Call a spade a spade. ”

(iv) Deceit- A misleading falsehood. A statement intended to make people believe what is not true.
“Call a spade a spade ”
OH! Maybe you’ve not even asked yourself why you lie. Please ask yourself and you’ll see that whatever reason you come up with is not worth lying for,if you do really have faith in God. We do all these to gain people’s approval and favour which is a sign of lack of FAITH IN GOD.

My Recommendations
Make conscious effort to stop lying and all its forms –>refute lies and its forms the moment you lie.Proverb 4:23
Pray against lying: Psalms 120:2
Deliver my soul, O Lord , from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue (KJV)
Pray for the grace to be honest.

SportsEverything You Need To Know About El-classico by HighBK(op): 10:27am On Oct 25, 2014
Real Madrid against Barcelona is never just an ordinary game of football, and the dazzling array of plots and subplots means this weekend’s meeting at the Bernabeu is surrounded by more anticipation than ever.
Luis Suarez returning from his suspension for biting an opponent to make his competitive Barca debut; Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on the brink of goalscoring records and Barca keeper Claudio Bravo closing in on a clean-sheet record are some of the storylines to follow on Saturday.
With so many fascinating aspects to one of the greatest occasions in the sporting calendar, we take an in-depth numerical look at El Clasico.

229 – A long history of rivalry
Saturday’s Clasico will be the 229th competitive meeting between the teams in all competitions, with Real holding an overall 91-89 lead, while 48 games have been drawn.
However, Barca have enjoyed considerably the better of recent league encounters, winning eight of the 12 La Liga fixtures between the sides since Pep Guardiola was appointed manager in 2008, including a home and away double last season.

£639m – A mega-money match-up
Cost of Real Madrid team = £361m
Cost of Barcelona team = £278m

500m – Watching all around the world
The global television audience for Saturday’s game will be colossal, with estimates placing the number of worldwide viewers between 400 and 500 million.

251 – La Liga record in sight
Lionel Messi’s left-footed strike in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Eibar took him to the milestone of 250 career goals in La Liga, leaving the Barcelona man just one behind the record held by 1940s Athletic Bilbao star Telmo Zarra.

22 – Ronaldo in a league of his own
Even by his own outrageously high standards, Real's Ronaldo has enjoyed a purple patch in the opening two months of the season, with a La Liga goals-per-game sequence of 1-1-3-4-1-3-2.
With 15 strikes to his name, Ronaldo has registered more goals in the opening eight rounds of the season than any other player in La Liga history, a feat all the more remarkable for the fact that he missed one of those games - a 4-2 defeat against Real Sociedad.

720 - Keeping it clean
Barca goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, it is fair to say, has made a decent impression since signing from Real Sociedad in the summer.
The Chile international has not conceded a single goal in 720 minutes of La Liga action, setting a new Spanish football record for consecutive clean sheets at the start of a season.

Eight - a host of new faces
Toni Kroos is used to playing in Der Klassiker for Bayern Munich, but how will he perform in El Clasico?
Both clubs were active in the transfer market this summer and at least seven players (plus one coach) are set to appear in the hothouse atmosphere of El Clasico for the very first time.
The most high-profile debutant, naturally, is Suarez, but there will also be important roles all over the pitch for team-mates and fellow summer signings Bravo, Jeremy Mathieu and Ivan Rakitic, while homegrown youngsters Munir El Haddadi, Sandro and Rafinha could appear from the bench.

500 - Can you hear them?
Will Barca's 500 fanatical fans be celebrating at the Bernabeu on Saturday night?
Barcelona will face a decidedly hostile atmosphere inside the Bernabeu, with only 500 of their supporters tucked away in a corner high inside the grand old stadium. The small allocation made available to the visitors is nothing unusual because Spanish football simply does not have a culture of fans travelling to away games.

President Obama found himself in an unusual situation Monday.

As he was casting his ballot early in Chicago, minding his own business behind the voting booth, a young man walked by and warned him “don’t touch my girlfriend.”
The girlfriend, Aia Cooper, who was voting in the booth next to Obama, was humiliated, to say the least. “I really wasn’t planning on it,” Obama joked with the woman. “There’s an example of a brother just embarrassing you, just for no reason whatsoever.”

“And now you’ll be going back home and talking to you friends; what’s his name?” the president asked.

“Mike,” Cooper said.

“‘I can’t believe Mike. He’s such a fool,’” Obama said, impersonating the woman.

“He really is,” she agreed.

Obama continued: “‘I was just mortified. But, fortunately, the president was nice about it. So it’s all right.’”

“I am freaking out right now,” she said, laughing.

The president got the last laugh, though.

“Give me a kiss and give him something to talk about,” the president said, as he gave Cooper a hug and a peck on the cheek. “Now he’s really jealous.”

But Cooper downplayed the moment.

“He gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Just the cheek,” she told ABC’s Chicago station WLS. “Please, Michelle, don’t come after me!”

PoliticsFayemi Spent N50m On Two Beds – Fayose by HighBK(op): 11:21am On Oct 22, 2014
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, of spending N50m on beds in his and his wife’s bedrooms in the newly built Ekiti State Government House.

He claimed in a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday that what was spent on the two bedrooms, their toilets and bathrooms was in the region of N100m.

The statement titled “N3.3bn new Government House Is Fayemi’s Show of Wickedness To Ekiti People,” was signed by his Special Assistant on Information and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka.

But Fayemi, through his media aide, Olayinka Oyebode, said the allegation was more about The Comedy of Errors. He advised Fayose to stop the theatre of absurd. The statement by Olayinka described the new government house as an act of insensitivity to the plight of Ekiti people, many of whom, could not afford to feed once in a day.

According to the statement, no progressive-minded Ekiti person would see the “out-of-this-world luxury” provided with over N3.3bn borrowed funds for Fayemi, his wife and children and will not weep for the state and its people. It claimed that the bed on which Fayemi slept before he left government was N30m while that of his wife was over N20m.

In my own opinion, "we don't negotiate with terrorist" is golden, but if that's what it will take to stop the madness, then so be it.
PoliticsShould Nigeria Negotiate With Terrorists? by HighBK(op): 5:52am On Oct 22, 2014
ter·ror·ism - noun \ˈter-ər-ˌi-zəm\
: the use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal (merriam-webster)

We can classify the BH group as a terrorist organization. They have recked havoc in Nigeria for the past four years. From Chrismas day bombngs to UN office attacks, bus stations, Chibok girls and even attacks on MILITARY BARRACKS!

The Nigerian government recently started negotiating cease fire with this group, to release the Chibok girls and stop further attacks. On the same day that cease fire agreements was announced, the group were alleged to have carried out 2 attacks on Nigerian soil.

The group that started with the use of IEDs now boasts of APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier, not APC APC!), automatic and semi auomatic weapons. They started without shoes (seriously) and now they have ugly white boots (see shekau pics below).

They are now organized, they have CSO, their leaders now have vacation benefits and time offs, I'm sure they get leave allowance too!

To the question, should the FG

1. negotiate with this group. They cease fire, release the allegedly kidnapped girls, and go free after all their war crimes!

2. fight them and crush them, arrest their leaders and sponsors, and let them face trials,

3. negotiate coded-ly (no need to announce) and still claim we don't negotiate with terrorists, so that other terrorist groups will not be encouraged, and there will be a sense of justice in the Nation

SportsThree Side Football. Thrice The Fun? What Do You Think? by HighBK(op): 6:55pm On Oct 18, 2014
Three-sided football is a variation of association football with three teams instead of the usual two. It was devised by the Danish Situationist Asger Jorn to explain his notion of triolectics, his refinement on the Marxian concept of dialectics, as well as to disrupt one’s everyday idea of football. Played on a hexagonal pitch, the game can be adapted for similarity to soccer as well as other versions of football.

This 10 years old girl is not your typical girl. You dare not bully her!

Read Shyanne's story and comment, should Nigeria's gun laws be amended? Should civilians be allowed to defend themselves?

Meet Shyanne Roberts, a 10-year-old competitive shooter who is out to prove something: Children with guns don’t always mean disaster.
I grew up in a household with guns. My father taught me basic marksmanship and safety at around 8 years old and allowed me to keep my own rifle in my room, with the warning that he would check it at random times and if he ever discovered me misusing or playing with it even once, there would be no second chances, no apologies, nothing, it would be gone for good.

Dan Roberts grew up having guns in the house, so when he had two children, he knew he wanted to teach them all about guns and gun safety. The single dad started teaching his daughter gun safety when she was 5. After she could recite the gun rules and had an understanding of what guns can do, about at age 6, he started taking her to a gun range. Shyanne’s natural talent turned into a passion and at age 10, she is now a competitive shooter, participating in events alongside adults.

When asked how he feels about his daughter using a gun, Roberts, her dad, said, “I feel very comfortable because I know she’s been extraordinarily well trained at how to be safe. I could have a fully loaded machine gun and she would not dream of touching it because the curiosity factor has been eliminated.”

What do you think? Cute or Risky?
