Just in from a colleague , APC members are rioting in Osogbo, Osun State with some gunshots heard. Our source reported that Nigerian Police Force officers are moving in to control the situation. The cause of the riot is not certain at the moment but it's believed to be caused by the upcoming primaries election within the party.

He has appointed Sunday Anifowose to be in charge of "stomach infrastructure"

The newly-inaugurated governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose, said he will appoint a Special Adviser on “stomach infrastructure” to enable him continue with his welfare policy to the people of the state.

“Today I declare full stomach infrastructure and there will be a Special Adviser on stomach infrastructure,” Mr. Fayose declared in his speech shortly after taking the oath of office at Ado Ekiti stadium on Thursday.

Mr. Fayose is considered a grassroot politician who has ways of identifying with the masses. His success at the poll held June 21 was largely attributed to his ability to deploy “stomach infrastructure” such as rice and other essential commodities.

In his speech Thursday, Mr. Fayose informed Ekiti citizens that he will carry out people-oriented programmes, rekindle and restore people’s hope and create an enabling environment for the development of the state that he was known for.

“I am already grooming your Christmas Chicken and your bags of rice are coming,” he said.

He also said being a governor will not affect the way he has been relating with the common people.

“I am the governor of your imagination, the governor that drinks agbo jedi and eats boli with you,” he said.

There had been condemnation of Mr. Fayose’s decision to distribute rice to the electorate prior to the election in June.

A top official at the Texas hospital where Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan died and two nurses contracted the deadly virus is apologizing to Congress for his facility’s “mistakes” in handling the highly contagious disease.

A transcript of testimony by Dr. Daniel Varga, chief clinical officer of the hospital’s parent chain Texas Health Resources, is expected to be presented at noon Thursday before the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.



“Unfortunately, in our initial treatment of Mr. Duncan, despite our best intentions and a highly skilled medical team, we made mistakes,” Varga’s testimony reads. “We did not correctly diagnose his symptoms as those of Ebola. We are deeply sorry.”

Because he cannot attend the hearing, Varga’s remarks were posted on a federal government website on Wednesday.

Texas Health is a faith-based, nonprofit organization consisting of 25 acute-care and short-stay hospitals. Varga, who was paid $500,000 in 2012, according to the group’s tax returns, is responsible for patient safety among other things.

The public apology is the first of its kind since late September, when Duncan, a Liberian citizen, went to Texas Health Presbyterian’s emergency room with Ebola-like symptoms and was sent home with antibiotics, even after telling workers he had recently arrived in Dallas from West Africa.

Duncan’s condition worsened in the two days after leaving the ER. He was suffering severe diarrhea and heavy vomiting when an ambulance arrived to take him back to the hospital on Sept. 28.

Varga said the hospital followed all federal and state guidelines to protect staff and others from Duncan, who died Oct. 8 after 10 days in isolation.

In his remarks, Varga expresses regret that two of his nurses — Nina Pham, 26, and Amber Vinson, 29 — somehow contracted the virus from Duncan.


“It’s clear there was an exposure somewhere, sometime,” the testimony reads. “We are poring over records and observations, and doing all we can to find the answers.”

He said Pham “is known as an extremely skilled nurse, and she was using full protective measures under the CDC protocols, so we don’t yet know precisely how or when she was infected.”

Others expected to testify include Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. On Wednesday, Fauci said of the hospital: “What happened there, regardless of the reason, is not acceptable.”

Varga also admits the hospital shared some information that was “inaccurate and had to be corrected,” but he does not specify what he is addressing.

“In our effort to communicate to the public quickly and transparently, we inadvertently provided some information that was inaccurate and had to be corrected,” his testimony reads. “No doubt that was unsettling to a community that was already concerned and confused, and we have learned from that experience as well.”

Varga goes on to say that Texas Health Presbyterian has already instituted a number of fixes, including an Ebola “refresher course” for emergency department staffers.

“We will continue to make changes as new learnings emerge,” the testimony reads.

Briana Aguirre (one of the Nurses who treated Duncan) risked her career to reveal that they were not trained to handle ebola, and that the protective gear they used revealed their neck! Imagine!

“I’ll be honest, I threw a fit," Aguirre said. "In the second week of an Ebola crisis at my hospital, the only gear they were offering us at that time, and up until that time, is gear that is allowing our necks to be uncovered?

"Why would I be wearing three pairs of gloves, three pairs of booties, a plastic suit covering my entire body and then leave my neck hanging out this much so that something can potentially go close to my mouth or nose?”

Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel has lost his mother after she died in an Accra Hospital on Friday, October 10, 2014.
Majid Michel and his family are currently grieving as the star has lost his 63-year-old mother.
Paula Olympio is said to have collapsed after which she was rushed to the Ghana Canada Hospital in East Legon, Accra, where she died on October 10.
The news was shared via Instagram by Majid’s half-brother, Mico Michel who paid tribute to the actor’s late mother.
He said:
“In my heart you live forever! Mom I know you are in a better place now. As we all give thanks to the day you walked into our lives we knew our family would never have been this strong without you there to guide us and love us the way you did…”
“Forever love……an Angel gone home……Auntie Paulina.”

On March 23, 1994, a medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald Opus and concluded that he died from a gunshot wound of the head caused by a shotgun. Investigation to that point had revealed that the decedent had jumped from the top of a ten-story building with the intent to commit suicide. (He left a note indicating his despondency.) As he passed the 9th floor on the way down, his life was interrupted by a shotgun blast through a window, killing him instantly. Neither the shooter nor the decedent was aware that a safety net had been erected at the 8th floor level to protect some window washers, and that the decedent would most likely not have been able to complete his intent to commit suicide because of this.
Ordinarily, a person who starts into motion the events with a suicide intent ultimately commits suicide even though the mechanism might be not what he intended. That he was shot on the way to certain death nine stories below probably would not change his mode of death from suicide to homicide, but the fact that his suicide intent would not have been achieved under any circumstance caused the medical examiner to feel that he had homicide on his hands.
Further investigation led to the discovery that the room on the 9th floor from whence the shotgun blast emanated was occupied by an elderly man and his wife. He was threatening her with the shotgun because of an interspousal spat and became so upset that he could not hold the shotgun straight. Therefore, when he pulled the trigger, he completely missed his wife, and the pellets went through the window, striking the decedent.
When one intends to kill subject A but kills subject B in the attempt, one is guilty of the murder of subject B. The old man was confronted with this conclusion, but both he and his wife were adamant in stating that neither knew that the shotgun was loaded. It was the longtime habit of the old man to threaten his wife with an unloaded shotgun. He had no intent to murder her; therefore, the killing of the decedent appeared then to be accident. That is, the gun had been accidentally loaded.
But further investigation turned up a witness that their son was seen loading the shotgun approximately six weeks prior to the fatal accident. That investigation showed that the mother (the old lady) had cut off her son’s financial support, and her son, knowing the propensity of his father to use the shotgun threateningly, loaded the gun with the expectation that the father would shoot his mother. The case now becomes one of murder on the part of the son for the death of Ronald Opus.
Now comes the exquisite twist. Further investigation revealed that the son, Ronald Opus himself, had become increasingly despondent over the failure of his attempt to get his mother murdered. This led him to jump off the ten-story building on March 23, only to be killed by a shotgun blast through a 9th story window.

Chen Shu-chu sells peppers, taro and mushrooms in eastern Taiwan and has known poverty much of her life.
