Hello
Thank you for taking your time to reply and to answer your question.. Yes I can come back to my job anytime I want.

Think, Think, Think!
You have a job at the moment, is that stable?
If you spend one or two years in USA will you get a better job when you return?
Will you get a job at all?
Think carefully before walking away from an existing good job for the possibility of something in the future.
Hello All
Hope you are well
I would like to gain your opinion on my intention.
I have a Bsc in computer science from the UK, moved back to Nigeria in 2013. Been working as an admin manager in a company that provides hospitaliyy services. I want to do a masters in hospitality management as I came to love the industry and especially with its great prospects in Nigeria.
I can't afford the fees especially with the current exchange rates so I intend to search for scholarship/tuition waiver opportunities but I'm not sure where to start. Can you please advise on how feasible it is too to gain Scholarships/Graduate Assistantships as an international student? thank you in advance!

Why so ? July is a long time from now and anything could happen before then. And your deposit isn't much actually. 1000 CAD, correct ? Some people had to pay their first year fees (if not in full, half).
How it will affect your visa application ? They'll withdraw your application letter. What you have now is more or less a conditional admission letter.
Withdrawal of an application letter means no basis for a student visa application.

But do they verify admission letters?
This person has some time to apply for visa while sorting the money out in time for the deadline.

Thanks for a reply finally !

The 4yrs TRV is a visiting only Visa ( was supposed to make a wedding)

The new application is for Study Permit and Im applying alone with my hubby as sponsor with abt 6M SOA and document of our property in Lekki .Is it clearer now ??

Oh ok
Well I could be wrong but visit visa is not same as study permit so you don't have to explain yourself.
Unless someone else has a stronger point.

Good day Nairalanders .. I have been a silent reader for a couple of days now and this is my first time trying to post. hope I get it right.

I am married with a Son . I finished in 2008 with a BA in English but right after NYSC, I have been in the Marketing & Communications industry up till now with my new job which I started in June 2015 . I went for a brief course in London School of Biz and Fin early last year and I have now decided to go further .
I got admission in Humber College for Marketing Mngtment Fall 2016 and now doing my best to collate all the relevant document (my husband is my sponsor with abt 6M SOA ) .
The catch here is I and my family already have a 4yrs TRV form June last year but couldn't make the trip as my new job came same time and I no longer intend to travel to Canada until August by God's grace .
I am applying alone also.

Please let me know your tots on my overall situation and do you feel i'll be victimized for not using the Visa yet?... that aside, all suggestion and tots are welcomed

Did you defer the admission?
If you did, when are you suppose to resume?
If it were me, I will vamooze with my family near the resumption date due to questions at port of entry.

Thanks,
The reason why I asked was as a result of the Agent page of the international student form.
What do u suggest I do? Skip that page and conclude my application?

If you are not using an agent..you skip it yea

I look forward to being a success story too.

Please can you confirm that original documents are no longer accepted for paper route?

Honestly, I don't think I will have the patience to read over hundred thousand comments.

I want to apply to Humber college CA.

Is it mandatory that International students must apply through an Agent?
Since Using an agent doesn't justify I get into Canada, cant I apply to the school directly?

Thanks

You can definitely apply to the school directly and not use an agent.
You do not have to use an agent unless you don't have the time and you have money to burn.
Admission process is pretty straightforward.
Just submit the required documents and wait for their decision.

Hi Eruditor,
I'll answer ur questions as asked
1. ENP-CC will NEVER fetch u a GA/TA/RA job as a student. Masters fetches scholarships/ tuition waivers as a new and current student (if u bend down and read of course) that PGCs will never give 1/2 of even if u make A+ all tru. (Something to consider with d rate of naira devaluation and d fact that not everyone have their parents as their sponsors)

2. As a Nurse (and for anyone in a regulated profession in Canada), u need licensure / to be registered to practice and to be eligible for PR/PNPs; PGCs won't give u d time to process all dat cuz d waka no be one day and before u knw it 8months (*2) is up and ur 3yrs PGWP may be spent on "labouke jobs" that will lead u nowhere. Masters buys u time to sit in Canada legally (u can even fast-track to PHD in most schools after ur first year and it's mostly tuition free cuz ur grades sampled u out) and process that cuz ur courses r spaced and not jampacked like PG courses.

3. International students don't go down that lane easily, even with a 2'1, thesis-based Masters admission process is terribly rigorous and sometimes not easy to get. I even applied for PGC cuz I got tired of waiting for my masters offer letter to come out, and PGC came out in 3wks. Plus Master of Nursing is difficult, I was told its IMPOSSIBLE so didn't even see any intl student to "follow down d route" sef but God helped me.

May I add that tuition was more expensive in PGC (in my case, may vary).
Lastly, let's stop deceiving ourselves with this "I'm going back to Nigeria to build d country" talk, even d VOS knw u ain't going nowhere, at least not without PR/passport if not we'll all be on d UK thread!
God bless!

@ your last paragraph,
Of course we all know we want to stay back in Canada and continue to build a life there.
But we have to tell them what they want to hear to get what we want.
I studied in the UK for 5 years and I moved back to Nigeria because it was either get a high paying job or get out. I have experience with UK study visa but don't want to be big headed and not ask for help as it's a different country.
Also. I'll like to add that these whole Canadian certification and prospects differs.
Its understandable why you would switch cos you're in nursing but that's not the case for those in IT.
IT requires hands on approach than just book work.
My friend in Toronto earns a lot in IT security and he didn't do a masters.

Good. But since you're expecting a baby, why can't you allow ur husby to go first? I mean file his own application use you and other family members and other things as as home tie, getting there he can apply for you to join him later. Rather than all of you applying together. If you are to do that, it means you and ur husband must have huge amount of money in your account to take care of himself, you and d new baby. Just my opinion though

No we don't want to separate for any reason.
Our marriage is not even a year old.
I've read successful family applications on here.
Baby arrives in April and his course starts August
So we want to apply as soon as baby's intl passport is sorted.
He has study leave letter with assurance of return to his job for the 9 months course.

I would appreciate an answer to this please

Everyone, please I need your take on this

My husband got admission to study graduate certificate in Computer network technician at Saskatchewan to start in august.
I'm going for the open work permit and we are applying together April/May.
I'm pregnant at the moment and baby arrives anytime in April so we want to wait for baby's arrival before applying.
I have a fairly successful business in hospitality sector and that's my own tie. I plan to state in sop that I want to go with him to support him as 9 months is a lot of time to stay apart especially with a new baby.
What do you think so far?

Alongside study leave from employer, is it good to also add business registration documents (inactive business) as part of long term plan upon return to Nigeria?

First bank said they are not allowed for now due to instruction from head office and gtb said they are not doing it for now. How do we go about paying and I also tried peer transfer but the card payment option has been disabled so we still have to go into the bank to do it. Pls ppl come to our help we need to make the payment ASAP

I had same issue..thought we could make payment through peer transfer with naira MasterCard but wasn't available so we bought dollars (at a ridiculous rate) and a friend that works in Access bank did the transfer through his USD account, to be received after 48 hours.

Please Note:

Your spouse needs to apply as a full time student in a publicly funded college or university to enable you be eligible for open work permit. Preferably, a university though to increase your chance of getting the visa, then you can change to a college if so preferred when you get there. And your propose study must correlate with your qualifications.

Spouses or common-law partners of full-time students [C42]

Note: The provisions outlined for C42 apply only to spouses of students engaged in full-time studies at a Canadian university, community college, CEGEP, publicly funded trade or technical school, or private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees.
Spouses or common-law partners of certain foreign students are allowed to accept employment in the general labour market without the need for an LMIA.

Eligibility

Applicants must provide evidence that they are the spouse or common-law partner of a study permit holder who is a full-time student at
• a public post-secondary institution, such as a college, university, or CEGEP in Quebec,
• a private post-secondary institution that operates under the same rules and regulations as a public institution and receives at least 50 percent of its financing for its overall operations from government grants (currently, only private college-level educational institutions in Quebec qualify), or
• a Canadian private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees.
Spouses or common-law partners of full-time students are eligible for open or open/restricted work permits, depending on whether a medical examination has been passed. There is no need for an offer of employment before issuing a work permit.

Validity
Work permits may be issued with a validity date to coincide with the spouse’s study permit.

What is most important to the V O is that you have home ties that will assure them that you coming back after your study.(Your property, children, aged parents or spouse if you are married and not travelling with him/her will convince the V O) but if you are travelling with your spouse it’s better to submit your application together even if she or he will join you later to increase your chance of approval.

Ultimately with plenty of prayers and faith in God. Remember all things are possible with God. l wish you all success in your applications.

Attached is the letter of support written by my husband to support my open work permit application

Thank you very much!
However,, the files failed to download
I'll appreciate if you can send to hildarela@gmail.com
Hello House,
Please l urgently need your assistance,My husband and 1 concurrently applied for a study permit (Meng Computer and electrical engineering,Queens University,Ontario) and Open work permit for me. The program commenced on the 4th of January but he couldn't resume because our applications is yet to be finalized according to the CIC our application could not be finalized without my e medical follow up chest x tray result (nothing was found, thank God) which was not sent to the appropriate quarters until 6th of January . We contacted Queens Uni. for deferment but it was declined yesterday, he was told to reapply. Will the embassy grant us the study permit based on the letter of admission that was submitted with the application (which the resumption date has passed) or is there a need to send a new admission letter to the embassy since he has reapply for admission for september? Thanks

I think you should wait for your visas and contact the School if he can start classes late.

Whichever of you is younger and can score better in IELTS and also has sufficient years of work experience(let's say like 4-5) and has higher qualification should be the principal applicant for you to have sufficiently high score(this is not a matter of - he's the head of the home o! lol).
Find a way of getting the money for now, God can have blessed you by the time you want to leave finally.
Meanwhile, use the link below to determine who between you and hubby will score higher as the principal applicant
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp

Thank you
I score higher as I am younger but its not a lot of difference.. 393 for me and 379 for him.
Either is not high enough.
I would also need to get Police certificate and ECA done from UK as I used to live there.
His own seems less hassle. He has already got ECA
Only thing left for us to create profile using him as PA is his IELTS

I've been following this thread prior to my Ielts test on Sept 26.
L-7.5
R-8.5
W-7.0
S-8.0
My husband who is the principal applicant has to retake the test. My question is what is a possible solution to insufficient funds for POF
Thank you
