Foreign AffairsBREAKING: Saudi Arabia Intensify Arrest Of Citizens Who Criticise Israel Online by HisaacPlus(op): 10:20am On May 04, 2024
Saudi Arabia has stepped up the arrest of citizens for social-media posts related to the Israel-Hamas war as the kingdom signals a readiness to agree to diplomatic relations with the Jewish state — if it commits to Palestinian statehood.

Detaining people for online comments — even those more than 10 years old — and restrictions on free speech and political expression are the norm in Saudi Arabia. Yet the recent spate of arrests are motivated by security concerns specifically linked to the deadly Oct. 7 invasion of Israel by Hamas and its aftermath, according to Riyadh-based diplomats and human rights groups.

SENATOR ADEYEYE PLEDGES FIVE PERCENT OF HIS PROPERTIES TO ILESHA GRAMMAR SCHOOL, ILESA
---------------------‐-----------
A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and a Senator who represented Osun Central Senatorial District between 2011 and 2019,Prof Sola Adeyeye, at the weekend pledged to donate five percent of his will to his Alma Mater, Ilesa Grammar School, llesa.

The notable politician made the pledge while speaking at the grand finale of the 90th anniversary of the school.

According to him, “When we return to America, by the grace of God, we will do what the whites are doing. I will change my will. I will put Ilesa Grammar School as part of those who will inherit me after death.”

“That is what they are doing over there. Every student gives something back to the school. The secondary school of my wife in Ifewara will also benefit from our will. We will give Ifewara where my wife graduated and my town in Ora

By the grace of God, five percent of my estate will go to Ilesa Grammar School, five percent will go to the University of Ibadan, and five percent will go to Ora Grammar School. Our children do not need money again,” Adeyeye said.

“I will rewrite my will to ensure that the school gets from my will. “I have been praying to God that I want to be on a roll call of honor.”

“I don’t collect awards because, in Nigeria, awards are deceitful. There is no office you get to that you will not see that the governor has won the Governor of the Year award. Nigeria now become rubbish as if we are cursed.”

“Two months ago, my wife and I wrote our will. I came to collect this award from America because I’m no longer living in Nigeria. I paid over 6,000 dollars to come for the award. When we return to America, by the grace of God, we will do what the whites are doing. .

Professor Adeyeye was accompanied to the event by his wife, Prof Mojisola, the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC).

Why I left Nollywood – Fabian Adibe

‘‘I didn’t leave them because of this blindness, although the blindness started gradually’’.
ByOnu Stephen March 12, 2022 Reading Time: 2 mins read
Fabian Adibe, a veteran Nigerian actor who dominated the movie scene for nearly four decades, has revealed why he quit acting 12 years ago.

The actor and television personality who led Nigeria to her first Commonwealth Art Festival in 1965 began his acting career in 1987 in the acclaimed Nigerian TV series, “Things fall apart.”

He played the role of Ogbuefi Uzowulu and acted alongside Pete Edochie. His other co-actors, Justus Esiri and Sam Loco Efe, in the series are now deceased.

overlay-clevercloseLogo
The 81-year-old actor, in an interview with a Nigerian travel journalist, Chinelo Okafor, said he left Nollywood because of “packaging.”

He said: “I left them (Nollywood) because one of their boys came and told me that they are starting a thing called ‘packaging.’ So I asked him what packaging is, and he said they would give you three scripts.

You will do two and get paid while the other would be for them. Why would you want me to do one for you for free? I said I wouldn’t? I told the boy I would not be part of that packaging.’’

Acting fees
Speaking of remuneration for the roles he played in the past, the veteran actor said that his contemporaries are being paid about N100,000.

He said it was a far cry from the N10,000 to N30,000, which he was paid in his heyday. He, however, added that in some cases, he even earned as low as N2,000.

His last known movie roles were in “Sister My Love,” released in 2006, and “Slave Warrior,” released the following year.

On December 1, 2013, the accomplished actor launched his first book titled “Mixed Grill” at 70.

Visual impairment, abandonment
The 79-year-old actor also claimed his colleagues in southeastern Nigeria abandoned him.

He said, “None of these people that are Onitsha traders that are in Nollywood, none of them have ever phoned me or asked where this man is.
Some AGN friends call me even though they find visiting me difficult because they are in Lagos. But the ones that used to use me and that I made money for, none of them have ever called me or looked for me.”

In 2016, it was rumoured that the actor had a visual impairment. In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, he disclosed that he needed N13 million for eye surgery.

TEXEM Advert
The actor said his visual impairment had also affected his career for 12 years.

He said: “I have been out of work for 12 years, and then I told one of the Onitsha marketers that Adibe is now blind, and the marketer responded that he is not out to carry around a blind man.
So I didn’t leave them because of this blindness, although the blindness started gradually. If I weren’t blind, I would still be doing the film, not for them, but for my first son, who is now an outstanding director in the industry.”

History
Mr Adibe featured in the Nollywood classic, ‘‘Living in Bondage,” released in 1993. The movie further thrust him into the limelight.

The actor is known for playing the role of an elder, king, father, father-in-law, and brother.

But, in most of his movies, he portrayed a man of integrity, that one elder in Nollywood movies who doesn’t support the evil tactics of the others.

He featured in over 300 movies, some of which include ‘Slave Warrior’ (2012), ‘White Kingdom 2’ (2014), and ‘Father’s (2014).

The revered actor also featured in foreign movies, including “Soweto,” a story about the struggle in South Africa, and “Mr. Johnson,” a Hollywood film.

The actor was a staff of the Nigerian Television Authority until he was retrenched on May 25, 1984.

A rare portrait of madam Hannah Afálà (Samuel Àjàyí Crowther's mother).

Aláàfin Abiodun Adegorolu succeeded Aláàfin Ajabo, a powerful monarch of his time. Aláàfin Abiọdun gave birth to a girl child named Oṣù, Oṣù grew up to become the mother of Olámínigbìn, who in turn became the husband of Omo-oga-egun, together they gave birth to Ibisomi Telerinmasa.

Telerinmasa was said to be possessed with a special dignity which was known among her people as "Afala" (the one who loves purity or the pure one) signifying the princess or priestess of the great god Obatala (the white cloth god). Ọbàtálá's province is believed to be a sphere of absolute and dazzling purity.

Afala married a man whose name was also given as Ajayi from the Edu clan, his grandfather was the Baale of Awaiye-petu, who relocated to the Òyó empire from Ketou (now part of Benin Republic).

Afala parted with her lovely son, when he was just 12 after their town, Oshogun, near Isheyin, was invaded by Fulani slave traders in about 1821. As a passionate mother, she waited patiently for the day she will surely meet her son again.

They finally reunited during Àjàyí's missionary sojourn in Abẹ́òkúta after slavery had separated them for decades.

Madam Afala was later baptized by her own son and was given the name Hannah on February 5, 1848 at Abeokuta. Madam Hannah and some other relatives moved in with the Bishop at Abeokuta where she lived to be over a hundred years old.

It's shameful when adults come online to talk geographical land mass like it they have used it to achieve anything meaningful.

[s]As large as the north is, yet what exactly have they done with it[/s]
. The herdsmen still come to the south to cause havoc in the name grazing..

As small as the south is yet they are more productive than both human capacity and natural resources, if only the gold in Zamfara was deemed a national property then we would know the real worth.

The bigger the landmass, the more problematic it is, the smaller the landmass the more productive an area is in Nigeria.
The north remains the food reservoir of Nigeria. Stop this bitterness
