Daily Manna: The Danger Of Rebellion

Tuesday, July 2, 2013

TEXT: EZEKIEL 3:1-14

Key Verse: “But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted” (Ezekiel 3:7).

Svetlana Stalin told the incredible story of how her father, Josef Stalin, the Russian dictator had been a seminary student, preparing for the ministry. Then he came to a point in life where he made a decisive break from his belief in God. This dramatic and complete reversal of conviction resulted in his hatred for all religions. (The name Stalin, which means “steel,” was not his real name, but was given to him by his contemporaries who fell under the steel-like determination of his will). And as Stalin lay dying in 1953, his one last gesture was a clenched fist toward God, his heart as cold and hard as steel.

Ezekiel was commissioned as God’s spokesman to his native Israelites. Like a new worker being shown his duty, Ezekiel was told of the rebellious nature of his audience. The Lord told him, howbeit with a disappointed countenance, that Israel would not hear because they are a rebellious and impudent people.

Rebellion is open resistance to authority. Resistance to authority is a popular pastime of the human race. We have chaffed under authority, stamped our feet, cried, shouted and screamed to indicate that we do not wish to comply. We humans just do not like being told what to do; so we resist. This means that today’s text has a general application, yet with specific call to all who rebel against the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel.

Going to church without an inward transformation will not remove the evil blot of rebellion from the heart. We can look a lot like Christians on Sundays and even be convinced that we are one, but the way we live our lives the rest of the week will reveal the true condition of our heart. Judgment may be delayed but unrepentant sinners will ultimately be judged! Make a change now!

Thought for the DAY: Rebellion profits nothing; true repentance does.

Daily Manna: Honesty Demanded
Sunday, June 30, 2013
TEXT: LEVITICUS 6:1-7

Key Verse : “Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein” (Leviticus 6:3).

In August 2012, a taxi driver in Nigeria’s state capital, Abuja was rewarded by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) for returning the sum of N18 million, about ($120,000) left in his cab by a passenger.

The driver said he was at a carwash point when he discovered the bag left in his car by the passenger and he decided to do the right thing.

In our text today, God instructed Moses to warn all Israel against enrichment of selves through false means. This was to ensure a society free from people who profit by false means.

Like the taxi man’s story, God has always rewarded faithfulness. While there are many cases of taxi drivers who returned money and other valuable items forgotten in their cabs, cases abound also of those who decided to steal such items. In these days of want, many people are no longer faithful. Some so-called believers could claim such forgotten item/money was a miracle from God. Nowadays, people get into activities that are inhuman and ungodly in order to make money. Some people falsify documents to claim ownership of other people’s money or property.

Believers must understand that lost but found items are not to be appropriated for personal use. God told Moses that such must be returned to the appropriate owner and restitution made.

Whether it is something delivered to you to keep and you lied that it was stolen, whereas you appropriated it for personal use, or something you took from someone violently; or things got in a deceitful way or people’s lost items that you found and kept for your own use, God’s standard is very clear: all stolen items must be restored and appropriate restitutions made.

Thought for the Day : Honesty is the best policy.

Daily Manna: His Presence And Favour
Saturday, June 29, 2013
TEXT: LUKE 1:26-38

Key Verse : “And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women” (Luke 1:28).

The presence of God denotes the absence of evil. Where divine presence is, there is also divine favour; they are twin-conditions born only by the absence of iniquity.

God had sought a woman upon whom to bestow the greatest privilege of being the mother of the Redeemer and Saviour of the whole world. He found such a woman in Mary, a simple and chaste young lady who was pure, having good control over her tongue.

God’s choice of Mary exemplifies the usual pattern in scriptures of the way God makes His choices among men. Noah was a just man and holy in his generation. He was chosen of God to preserve the then world from extinction.

Joseph was different from his brethren; he enjoyed divine presence, he was promoted and highly favoured by God. Moses was the meekest of all men upon the face of the earth which made God to speak with him intimately.

God uses men and women whose hearts are yielded to him. He wants to use every one of us too, but He must first of all make us good by taking away our sinfulness; He then goes ahead to make us who He wants us to be. You can be another favoured child of God today if you will turn away from every known sin and humbly commit yourself into His loving hands.

Thought for the Day : They are greatly blessed and highly favoured whose sins are forgiven.

Daily Manna: A Noble Response"Friday, June 28, 2013"*TEXT: JEREMIAH 3:20-25*
"*Key Verse : “Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God. Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel” (Jeremiah 3:22,23).*"
Over the ages, the Almighty God had always stretched forth His hand to sinful man with a view to redeeming him. It is amazing to know the extent to which God often goes, in every age, to bring back man from his degenerate state. Those who get lost eventually are those who reject the knowledge of His truth.
God’s call to Israel to return from their backsliding was greeted with a noble response: “Behold, we come unto thee for thou art the Lord our God.” This spontaneous response came against the backdrop of terror, resulting from the untold sufferings which plagued Israel for generations past, all because they forsook their God and went into idolatry.
Suffering has its uses too. It breaks the hardened soil of indifference and obstinacy and prepares the heart of the impenitent for the word of God. Sin brings shame; it devours one’s dignity, wealth and leaves its victim guilt-stricken.
Today, many who are terrified by the oppression, poverty, violence and premature deaths they see are turning to God. If you find that you have backslidden or deviated from the path of righteousness, God is eagerly waiting to receive you back to Himself. Israel gained nothing remaining outside the will of God but defeat, shame and frustration. You do not need to learn by hard personal experience the destructive results of sin. Be sure you give the noble response today.

*Thought for the Day : He who promptly responds to his Maker’s call is wise.**

6.27.2013Daily Manna: Love Of The Truth"Thursday, June 27, 2013"*TEXT: 2 THESSALONIANS 3:1-5*
"*Key Verse : “And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ” (2 Thessalonians 3:5).*"
The minds that are darkened with sin and prejudice frequently misunderstand the word of God, no matter how clearly it is preached. If we deliberately misinterpret God’s Word or refuse to accept its message, we, by implication, call God’s word a lie. In the words of the late U.S. philosopher, William James (1842-1910), “there is no worse lie than a truth misunderstood by those who hear it”.
The Apostle Paul had written a previous epistle to the Thessalonian believers in which he confirmed the imminence of Christ’s second coming. This he did to comfort their hearts in the many trials and persecutions that assailed the church at that time. Some men deliberately misinterpreted the prophecy and misled many people into adopting things contrary to the truth. The result was disorder, frustration and division among the people. In reaction to the matter, Paul requested that the brethren pray for the rapid growth of the word of God in spite of satanic exploits of wicked men.
True believers must arise and proclaim the truth of God’s word. The prevalence of error and falsehood in the world must never diminish our capacity to emphasize the truth of biblical prophecy. Noah put his generation to shame by the life of faith he lived and his absolute fidelity to the truth. In the face of cynicism of sinful men, we must proclaim it that Jesus is coming soon to redeem His people from the world, while He will unleash judgment on the unregenerate.
Pray earnestly today for a new heart that really loves God and hates every false way.
*Thought for the Day : Our love for God is evidenced by our love for the truth.*

Daily Manna: Circumcision Of The Heart
Wednesday, June 26, 2013
TEXT: JOSHUA 5:1-9

Key Verse : “At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time” (Joshua 5:2).

“It is a great deal better to live a holy life than to talk about it. We are told to let our light shine, and if it does, we won’t need to tell anybody it does. The light will be its own witness. Light houses don’t ring bells and fire cannon to call attention to their illumination – they just shine.” – D. L. Moody

Twenty-four years after Abraham was called out of idolatry and darkness, God gave him the second call into perfection (holiness/sanctification). The sign of that call or covenant was the circumcision of the flesh of Abraham and all the males in his house. This became a covenant between God and all the descendants of Abraham.

Forty years after Israel left Egypt, it was expedient that Joshua as the new leader circumcise all the males who were born in the wilderness. The corporate circumcision at this time was for Israel’s new generation.

A time came that Israel lost the real meaning and essence of the circumcision covenant, just like other covenants which pre-figured the New Testament. From the time of Prophet Ezekiel, God broadened the concept to include circumcision of the heart. The circumcision of the flesh was meant to be a reflection of the internal circumcision of the heart.

In the New Testament, our first call out of idolatry and darkness is the salvation experience, while the second is into the circumcision of heart - holiness/sanctification experience. At salvation, our candle is lit; at sanctification, our light shines bright. When our life, character, and motives are pure, we don’t need any advertisement.

Thought for the Day : A well lit light needs no announcement.

Daily Manna: Our Commission
Tuesday, June 25, 2013
TEXT: EZEKIEL 2:1-10

Key Verse : “And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day” (Ezekiel 2:3).

“Hide not thy talent in the earth,
However small it be;
Its faithful use, its utmost worth,
God will require of thee,
His own, which He hath lent on trust,
He asks of thee again;
Little or much, the claim is just,
And thine excuses vain.
Go, then, and strive to do thy part,
Though humble it may be;
The ready hand, the willing heart,
Are all heaven asks of thee.” - William Cutler.

God always looks for men in every generation to do His service. He found Prophet Ezekiel in his own generation – a generation of rebellious children of Israel who were carried away as captives into Babylon.

Ezekiel was given the job to do at this time. Simply, he was to reveal the source and reason for their captivity. He was to make them know that their sins and rebellion against God were the reasons God delivered them into the hands of their enemies; and that only genuine repentance will earn them forgiveness and full reconciliation.

Prophet Ezekiel was prompt and effective in his ministry. Unlike Moses, Jeremiah and Jonah who gave initial excuses of incompetence, Ezekiel was ready to go.

As believers today, our own assignment is cut out for us: preaching the gospel. In our neighbourhoods, offices and schools, we should emulate Ezekiel by being prompt and effective in evangelism. God is counting on you as a soul-winner in this present dispensation.

Thought for the Day : Promptness and diligence are key to heaven-sent assignments.

Daily Manna: Two Parallel Ways

Monday, June 24, 2013
TEXT: PROVERBS 4:14-27

Key Verse : “Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day” (Proverbs 4:14,18).

Life, more often than not, offers alternatives, but sometimes provides a lot of opposites. No wonder, someone said, God created everything in twos: night and day, men and women, good and evil, light and darkness, weakness and strength, hot and cold, wet and dry seasons, war and peace, life and death, etc. and each is parallel to the other.

Similarly, our passage today presents us with two phenomena which, though a pair, are diametrically opposed to each other. God, through king Solomon, reveals to us the existence of wickedness and righteousness. He provided a comparative appraisal of the paths of both the wicked and the righteous: the wicked sleep not until they have done mischief, they are violent and prone to stumbling because they are in darkness. But the pathway of the just is simply described as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day. Solomon therefore recommends only one pathway: the way of the just. How wonderful will it be today if everyone can take heed to Solomon’s warning and accept his recommendation!

Jesus Christ himself talked about the broad and the narrow ways; the broad way leads to destruction while the narrow one leads to life eternal. It therefore means that God does not give anyone the luxury of walking in both ways at the same time, as no one can serve two masters at the same time.

As Solomon rightly indicates, anyone who wants to spend eternity with God in heaven has no alternative than to walk in the way of the just; he must incline his ear and heart to the word of God, guide his heart with all diligence, bridle his tongue; he must not look at immorality or walk in evil; he must be single-minded, focusing entirely on God.

Thought for the Day : What a better place the world would be, if all were righteous!

Daily Manna: The Paschal Lamb Of God
Sunday, June 23, 2013*TEXT: LEVITICUS 5:14-19*

"*Key Verse : “If a soul commit a trespass, and sin through ignorance, in the holy things of the LORD; then he shall bring for his trespass unto the LORD a ram without blemish out of the flocks, with thy estimation by shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering” (Leviticus 5:15).*"
“God, then, is  more  earnest for me to be saved than I am to be saved! He so loved the world that He gave His Son. He loved not saints, not penitents, not the religious, not those who love Him; but the world, secular men, profane men, hardened rebels, hopeless wanderers and sinners! He gave not a mere promise, not an angel to teach us, not a world to ransom us, but His Son – His only begotten Son! So much did God love the world, sinners, me! I believe this. I must believe it; I believe on Him who says it. How can I, then, do otherwise than rejoice?” – Martin Luther.
The provision for “atonement” with God in the Old Testament was a sacrifice of an animal without any blemish upon the altar. The offerer was deemed ceremonially clean and forgiven of his sins, after the sacrifice. Even then, the snag with the old provision was that the sacrifice could not cleanse the conscience, neither could it stop the propensity to sin.
The Love of God for man moved Him to perfect the provision of “atonement”. He replaced the sacrifice of goats, rams and bullocks with His Son Jesus Christ. True remission and forgiveness of sins come through the blood of the sinless, blameless Son of God, Jesus Christ. A sincere seeker now has unlimited benefits through this new sacrifice. Not only does it provide atonement, there is cleansing of the conscience to remove guilt, condemnation and shame. Grace is also given to “go and sin no more”.
No wonder, Martin Luther exclaimed: “How can I, then, do otherwise than rejoice?” How can you also do otherwise? See the love, mercy and grace unmerited and undeserved! Plunge into this privilege and enjoy unlimited peace and love from the exalted Saviour.

*Thought for the Day : “Grace so amazing and totally undeserved”.**

Daily Manna: Jesus: The Wisdom Of God
Saturday, June 22, 2013*TEXT: PROVERB 8:1-11*
*
*"*Key Verse : “For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it” **(Proverbs 8:11).*"
“Tell men that a new lode has been found in some valley or cannon, tell them that some Black Hills country is open for digging of more gold; and all the armies cannot keep the emigrants from streaming thither from every quarter through the plains. Suffering from weariness and from hunger, and in the face of a thousand scalping dangers they will hunt for that gold. Tell men that in the mountains there are precious stones-opals, rubies, sapphires, and the like – and how they will explore and explode the hills for them! And though but one in a thousand can gain them, yet each one of the thousand will think that he is to be the favoured one”- Anonymous writer.
King Solomon was an inspired writer; yet, he was a poet and philosopher. Apostle Paul was also an inspired writer, poet and philosopher. Both of them had the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ and agreed that He is the “Wisdom of God”.
The modern man’s pursuit and passion are riches, liberty, pleasure, happiness, and knowledge. Man will give his life to attain all these, yet there is no satisfaction or fulfilment outside of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Him all things consist.
King Solomon himself spent a large chunk of his life in search of true wisdom. After wasting almost a lifetime, he declared his experiments as “vanity upon vanity”. Unfortunately, many people, including some Christians are in the rat race of searching for riches without Christ. Their slogan is, “the end justifies the means”.
In the Western world, men have redefined liberty, pleasure and happiness contrary to the word of God. There is now liberty for a man to marry another man or his dog. Seek Jesus Christ with all your heart, and He will satisfy your desires.

*Thought for the Day : The Spirit of Christ in man is more precious than gold.**

Daily Manna: Bow Before God

Friday, June 21, 2013
TEXT: EZEKIEL 1:15-28

Key Verse : “As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake” (Ezekiel 1:28).

People struggle to accept God and obey His word, simply because they do not know Him. They cannot tell the extent of His sovereignty, might and power. And they do not know the scope of His grace and faithfulness. But those who have seen His glory and experienced the depth of His love, yield themselves readily to Him in humble appreciation.

Prophet Ezekiel was preparing to become a priest when he and thousands of other Israelites were shipped into captivity in Babylon. In that strange land, he was called by the Lord to be a prophet at the age of 30. His call came in form of a vision from heaven. He saw “the living creatures” symbolizing the perfect nature of God.

The living creatures were a wonder to behold with their wings that made noise like the tides of an ocean, and like the sound of a mighty crowd. Ezekiel also saw what looked like a throne that glistened as sapphire stone on which sat the likeness of a man. The throne was awash in brilliant amber colour, and bathed in blinding brightness. The bright light was like the beautiful colours of a rainbow. The incredible scenery left Ezekiel entirely prostrate.

God is too great to be comprehended by our finite minds. We receive Him by faith, we accept Him at His words, we trust Him to be faithful. He is not limited by time and space. He rules everywhere. He is God and He does not change. He is a loving Father, but He is also a just judge, whose eventual goal is to bring about the reign of righteousness on the earth.

The majesty of our God is beyond compare. He is great in power, glorious in holiness and fearful in praises. When we come before Him, let us bow in humble adoration and worship Him, for He is the God of gods and Governor over the whole earth.

Thought for the Day : Worship God in the beauty of holiness.

shdemidemi: Exactly, I would not want to argue as well. Please take time to study what is expected of the church now and the gift left for christians. The four gospels of mathew mark luke and john are not part of the new covenant. Christ fulfilled something on that cross which brought change. Read your 1 corinthians 13 very well. What most churches and pastors do now are gnosticism exorcism guess work and magic at best. Like I said before miracles were signs leading us to the real thing, the real thing is GRACE of salvation through the death burial and resurrection of Christ. Peter spoke about is experience at the transfiguration, he made us understand we can't hold our faith unto a miracle as sure as that because we have a more assured word of prophecy, which is the word of God.
what is expected of the church is to manifest the full gift of the spirit that was released after his ascension which has no limit. Salvation the priority, the gateway to the kingdom and other things that are added to it.
My brother u cant take away from the scriptures remember its warned in revelation not to add or subtract from it the four Gospels are still full flesh of the word and has the major of the purpose of salvation his birth death crucifixion and ascension.
You see i have a glimpse of what you are talking about there a lot of magic guess work and the rest of them and there is this tendency to ignore miracles even Christ said that not all that call me Lord Lord shall enter there in but doesn't stop God from manifesting is power. 1 cor 13 says if i have gifts knowledge inclusive without charity all is vain and this charity in view is from d 4 gospels the supreme of all love ever john 3:16....the basics of the present day upon this rock i will build my church ...from the gospels are you with me so it cant be over emphasizd dat d 4 gospels are major nt even minor talk more of escalating it then there will be no church.
Sure we cant base our faiths on miracles but that doesnt erase the fact that there are no genuine miracle which is the main bowl of the thread

6.20.2013Daily Manna: Decisions Have Consequences
Thursday, June 20, 2013*TEXT: ESTHER 1:1-12*

*"Key Verse : “But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king‘s commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him” (Esther 1:12)."*
Many times, we act on impulses. We do things without thinking deeply about them, or we are swayed by the desire to please or impress other people. We are oblivious that our actions have impact, for good or ill, on others and on ourselves. And even when we realize this, it is often too late: the damage has been done.
King Ahasuerus presided over the Persian empire that spread from India, in present day Asia, to Ethiopia, in Africa, over 127 provinces. Three years into his reign, he made a great feast that lasted for six months for his princes, generals and servants. It was an opportunity to display his riches, honour and majesty. Afterwards, he organized another feast for seven days for all the people in Shushan where his palace was located. The king made lavish provisions for the party, serving guests wine in golden vessels. His wife, Queen Vashti also held a feast for the women in the royal household.
On the final day of the feast, when the king and his guests were thoroughly drunk, he made what turned out to be a rash decision. He commanded the queen to be paraded before his guests, to show off her beauty. This made no sense to the queen, and she refused to obey the king’s command. This eventually led to her dethronement.
We must watch our decisions, particularly when our heart is merry and everyone is applauding and rejoicing with us, or when we are in deep distress and no help seems to be forthcoming. At such a time, we must strive to retain our clarity of thoughts. If we act without thinking, we would leave a trail of consequence that may not be redeemable for the rest of our lives.

Christianity EtcRe: Are There Still Miracles????????? I Think This Puts An End To All Doubts.... by hisableplc(op): 8:00am On Jun 20, 2013
shdemidemi: My friend, the bible works in dispensation and times. Powers to perform miracles use to available to believers but it all ended at a point. Christ did miracles to convince the Jews he is the son of God, He also gave the apostles these powers cos the scripture says the Jews seek signs but gentile seek knowledge. The gift that is available to us as believers now is the gift of knowledge and the gift of teaching God's word. Don't be deceived, Christ did not die for vain things men lust for, Christ died so you can have eternal life. He also said you should worry not about all these things, by the time you worry yourself about mundane things, all you are telling God is ' I can't wait for your time'.
my dear lets dnt argue....dere r more to reach out to out dere...ur siggy says togeda we achieve more...so i think its beta we follow d scriptures...frm d beginning of scriptures to d end was miracle n it was nt written in there dat it should end can u point dat out frm ur bible dat says no more miracles...rather charging believers before leaving that even more than he did dey wil do still nt neglecting d main thing salvation purpose of it all
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised....
