Daily Manna: Don’t Misuse it! Thursday 18, July 2013 TEXT: MICAH 2:1-6 KEY VERSE: “Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand” (Micah 2:1). Every day and almost in every sector of life, we find the assertion of Lord Acton which states that “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely” coming true. There is just the misuse and abuse of power among most of those who have been privileged to wield one form of power or the other. One very obvious way in which they abuse power is in oppressing the less-privileged who are seemingly defenceless. This is what God frowns at in our text today. He pronounces judgment on those who use their power to oppress the poor and dispossess them of their lawful belongings. They take advantage of their weak and poor nature to harass and afflict them because they consider them as lacking the ability to resist or fight back. God rises as the Defender of the defenceless and the great Advocate of the poor. He vows to personally judge all those who have acted in oppression. The Lord graciously acts just as it is commonly said that the cow that has no tail will have God driving away the flies that try to perch on it. While it is bad enough to have the ungodly act in oppression against his fellow man, it is sad and very discomforting to know that some professed Christians act in oppression against their fellow Christians. They use their privileged position in the church to oppress, deprive and deny the weak and less-privileged believers of their rights. If God has given us a privilege or position which others do not have, it is not to serve our own purpose but His. We must see ourselves as mere stewards and custodians of God’s gifts and privileges and use them as people who shall give account of them one day. Those who use their power to oppress and harass others are mere sadists, wishing only to drag others into their sad and melancholic state. Those who bring joy to others are those who have the spring of joy within them. 7.16.2013 Daily Manna: No “Right to Die” TEXT: JOB 6:1-13* *"KEY VERSE: “Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for! Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!” (Job 6:8,9)."* Secularism and liberalism have made nonsense of what is generally referred to as fundamental human rights. The rights and freedom of man have been carried to the point that man is considered to have the right to determine whatever he wants with his life. It is believed that man is the owner of his life and so has the right to do whatever he wants with it. One of such rights is what is termed the “right to die!” Advocates of this argue that a person has the right to end his life or seek assistance of another (a doctor) to end it when he considers the quality of his life to be worse and worthless. Another term for this is “mercy killing” or “assisted suicide.” This is more applied to one who has a terminal disease. Since he will eventually die, it is considered wise and helpful to hasten the death and free him from further pain. It is also recommended for a baby who has a serious deformity from birth that will make living very difficult. This is absurd and contradicts God’s command against taking another person’s life. Created in the image of God, we are stewards of our lives and not owners. We can therefore not do whatever we like with it, let alone end it. Besides, it is a manifestation of unbelief which unwisely depreciates the providence and miraculous power of God. This was the kind of request Job made in our text today. Crushed under the weight of his sufferings, he thought there was no more point continuing to live and wished to die. But God who knew better and had better plans for him ignored his request. What happened to him at last shows that there cannot be a hopeless situation with God. On no condition should you think of putting an end to your life. It is like a borrowed book; you will have to return it and give account of how you use it someday! *THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: You don’t have the right over what is not yours!* ****Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Daily Manna: Give Him Attention! Monday 15, July 2013 TEXT: EZEKIEL 3:22-27 KEY VERSE: “And the hand of the LORD was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee” (Ezekiel 3:22). One of the strongest factors identified as responsible for the failure of most relationships is a breakdown in communication. This problem has become more rife today as our world appears to become more obsessed with itself. In the bid to meet the ever-increasing challenges of life, individuals are becoming busier and engrossed with their works. Spouses have less time to talk with one another; children can no longer get the needed attention from their parents; leaders appear to be too much in a hurry to have the time to clearly communicate their visions and goals to their subordinates, etc. These result in high rate of divorce, delinquency among juveniles, loss of trust, misunderstandings and failures in our world today. Unfortunately, this trend has rubbed off on the spiritual lives of many believers. Caught in the rat-race, they have become so busy that it is becoming more difficult for God to get their attention and communicate His divine plan and vision to them. To get Ezekiel’s attention and make him see the vision He had for him, God had to tell him to leave where he was and get to the plain. Obviously, God wanted him to move on to the place where he would have no distractions and nothing to obscure and obstruct his view. How much of your attention does God have? Is He able to speak to you all He has in mind for you? This will not be possible as long as we are so busy with ourselves and hardly have the time to withdraw to the “plain” of quiet time and personal devotion. Many no longer have the time for Bible Study, prayer meetings, retreats and other Christian conventions, let alone have time to observe personal retreats. No wonder many believers no longer hear the voice of God and receive divine guidance and instructions regarding their lives, marriages, careers and ministries. Give yourself a break; get to the plain and let God speak His mind to you. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A care-free Christian easily schedules God out of his life. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE |
Daily Manna: Prepare for Your Miracle Sunday 14, July 2013 TEXT: 2 KINGS 4:8-17 KEY VERSE: “And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people” (2 Kings 4:13). Many people suffer lack and deprivation in life, not because God is unmindful of their situation, but because He is waiting for them to do something to trigger their expected breakthrough in life. It is the best example of the divine-human partnership which illustrates the saying that you reap what you sow. The Shunamite woman had noticed that Elisha was visiting their town regularly. But she obviously did not know he was a prophet. Yet, she prevailed on him to eat dinner in her house each time he was in town. She went a step further to persuade her husband, and they both prepared and furnished an apartment in their house for Elisha to lodge in whenever he visited. One day, as he was resting in the apartment, Elisha sent for the woman. When she came, he appreciated all the care and hospitality she had lavished on him and his servant. He then asked her if there was anything he could do for her. The woman said she needed nothing. But Elisha’s servant told him that the woman had no child, and her husband was now old. Promptly, Elisha called her back, and declared: “About this season, according to the time of life, thou shall embrace a son.” Despite her mild uncertainty, she conceived and was delivered of a son as Elisha had told her. We have the ability to obtain what we need from the Lord. We should not spend our time moaning about all we lack. Instead, we should pray and have faith in God. We should show hospitality and kindness to other men, even strangers. We should show love and care for the servants of God under whose ministry we are receiving spiritual nourishment. We should render sacrificial service to the household of faith. We should spare no effort to put a smile on the faces of those in need. When we give to God and men, He will return same to us in good and abundant measure. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Good deeds are like light; shine it in your corner and it will stretch from earth to heaven. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Daily Manna: Trust God, He Still Cares Saturday 13, July 2013 TEXT: PSALM 82:1-7 KEY VERSE: “How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah” (Psalm 82:2). Sometimes, it seems that God is unaware of the evil activities of the wicked, or that He would allow them to get away literally, with them. We watch as sinful men perpetrate all kinds of crime imaginable with so much impunity. Some who are weak-minded may even be tempted to conclude that if the wicked are going scot free, then, there may be no profit in doing right. The Psalmist in our text was moving in this direction. He knew that God was the judge of heaven and earth. But he could not understand the delay with which the Lord was attending to the excesses of wicked men. He therefore called on God to defend the poor and fatherless, to mete out justice in favour of the afflicted and needy persons. He urged God to urgently rescue the poor and needy from the hands of the wicked. These hapless victims had become disoriented and were almost giving up hope that help could ever come from any quarter. Yet, irrespective of how powerful the wicked may be, they were still men who would one day die like all human beings. When the Psalmist seemed to realise this, he promptly urged God to arise and judge the earth, especially as He has control over all nations. God does not work at our pace. While we are limited, He has power over time and space. He is the Almighty. He knows all things. He sees all the evil that men are perpetrating on earth and He hears the weeping of those suffering unjustly. He is touched by their cries. But while He may appear to delay judgment over evil, He would never ignore it. Sometimes, He delays action to see if the wicked can change. He may also allow us to suffer victimization so as to perfect us in His sight. Either way, in His own set time, He will rescue the sufferer and bring the wicked to book. Our role is to trust and wait for Him to act, knowing that He makes all things beautiful in His own time. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Rest assured: the wicked will not go unpunished. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learned in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE |

i feel so....kudos to our soldiers n sss Boko Haram Commander Killed In Gun Duel By: Ankeli Emmanuel on July 12, 2013 - 3:14am A top commander of the Boko Haram sect popularly called Buwayayye (meaning the untouchable in Hausa language) was killed while another was captured yesterday in Sokoto, after an eight-hour fierce gun battle between the sect and a combined team of security forces comprising soldiers and operatives of the State Security Service. Eleven people including women and children were rescued. The brigade commander, 1 Brigade, Brig. Gen. Ta’siu Ibrahim, confirmed the operation that sent fear into the minds of residents within the vicinity. According to one of the locals, the residents were forced to say their last prayers, as all they could hear throughout the night was continuous gunshot. The incident occurred around Gidan Dare, Kalambaina in Wamakko local government area of the state, where, the brigade commander claimed, the terrorists were successfully repelled. The operation, which lasted almost eight hours, according to a military source, started at about 2am on Thursday (yesterday) and lasted until after 9am. According to the source, the terrorists were engaged in fierce gun battle but were overcome, and the forces recorded no casualty. The source also added that the security forces killed and captured the terrorists, including their wives and children. Briefing newsmen at the Azazi Hall of 1 Brigade, Sokoto Army Barracks, yesterday, the brigade commander enjoined every Nigerian to make peace a priority, just as he assured of the readiness of the security agents to ensure the safety of the lives and properties of all Nigerians, as well as protect her territorial integrity in line with global best practices at all times. “I want to intimate you with our activities within the last 24 hours in ensuring that the atmosphere of peace prevails, especially in this holy month that we are in -- the Ramadan period. Despite the fact that it is a holy month, a few hoodlums – to be specific, terrorists – are hell-bent on causing mayhem and destruction, and spilling the blood of innocent citizens,” he said. Speaking on the operational method, the commander said, “On a tip-off, we undertook a joint operation in the general area of Gidan Dare, around the Kalambaina road, where a terrorist hideout was discovered. “Operations began in the earlier morning hours of today (yesterday) and I am pleased to inform you that the operation was hugely successful. During the course of the operation, fatalities on the part of the terrorists were recorded. To be precise, one of the terrorists was killed, one captured, five women and six children were rescued and they are very safe. Two of the women are pregnant and are receiving ante-natal care at the moment.” LEADERSHIP FRIDAY investigations revealed that the five women were from Borno, Zamfara, Kano, Sokoto states and the neighbouring Niger Republic. Of the six children rescued, one boy was aged 5, and another girl, 3. Two others boys were aged 2, and there was a 4-month-old infant girl. The slain suspected suspect, believed to be a wanted person, was said to be a famous member of the terrorist group, while the captured accomplice, a male of about 20 years, was alive. Gen. Ibrahim also thanked the people for their support: “Without the cooperation of the good people of Sokoto State, most of the successes we are recording would have been impossible.” Gen. Ibrahim mentioned the items recovered within the household: “ six AK 47 rifles, a pump-action rifle, 13 magazines of ammunition, seven improvised explosive devices, 32 hi- watt (6f22) 9v batteries for transistor radios”. Other items include an axe, four handsets, 66 SIM cards, three memory cards, 10 Orlando Milk cartons, 56 detonator cables used in IEDs, three handset chargers, N76,685.00, 701 7.62mm ammunition rounds, 13 IEDs prime clocks, an Abuja vehicle plate number (EL 295 ABJ) and a wrist-watch, a copy of the complete Holy Qur’an, a prayer rosary (Tetsebi) and other Arabic books. About four months ago, some suspected terrorists engaged the JTF in a similar gun battle and four of them were allegedly killed at Baddo Quarters in Wamakko local government area of Sokoto State. |
Daily Manna: Appreciate Your Ministers "Friday 12, July 2013" *TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 7:1-7* *"KEY VERSE: “I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you” (2 Corinthians 7:3)."* If there is any yearning in the heart of ministers of the gospel, it is to fulfill God’s expectation, to please Him, to be a glory to Him. But equally important is their usually unspoken desire to be loved and appreciated by children of God under their care. Often times, this point is lost on believers. They expect the utmost care from their pastors at all times, but in the process, become blind to the needs of the servants of God, who then go about life seemingly unloved and lonely, even though they are in the midst of a large congregation. The Apostle Paul, in our text, pleaded with the believers in Corinth to show more concern, understanding and care for him and his fellow ministers. He reminded them of the centrality of cleansing from sin, holiness of life and fear of God. They too, as ministers of God, should be accepted and treated with due consideration. He assured the believers that they were very dear to him. He never sought to condemn them, even when he rebuked them. In fact, he was proud of them, and was comforted every time he thought about them or heard about their affairs. He told them he was particularly encouraged and comforted when he heard from Titus about “your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.” Ministers of God, pastors of our churches, leaders in our fellowships all deserve our affection. We should neither exploit nor degrade them. Instead, we should care for them, we should love them, and constantly show that we appreciate all their labours over us. We should respect and honour them, and follow the godly precepts they not only teach, but show to us. We should pray for them always. All of this will serve as tonic for them to serve God more and attend to our spiritual needs better. *THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: “Remember them which have the rule over you...”* ****Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Daily Manna: Danger of Unbelief Wednesday 10, July 2013 TEXT: GALATIANS 4:21-31 KEY VERSE: “Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?” (Galatians 4:21). Many people trifle with the simplicity of faith in Jesus Christ, and the extent of the transformation it can bring to their lives. It seems far-fetched to them that they can become heirs of Almighty God, children of the Kingdom without having to make any personal sacrifice or pay a heavy price for their sinful and indulgent lifestyle. The same was the case with the Christians in Galatia. They thought that it would take obeying all the Old Testament laws before they can be accepted before God. They had been taught well by Apostle Paul, but no sooner did he leave their province than some new teachers introduced error to the believers. They told them that they must obey all the Laws of Moses, else their salvation was not complete. It was left to Apostle Paul to write an epistle debunking the erroneous teachings of the false prophets. In it, he drew attention to the story of the sons born to Abraham: one by a strange woman, a maid; and the other by his wife, explaining that the story was an illustration of the Old and New Testaments, as well as the lofty position of believers in the kingdom of God. Jesus Christ has paid the ultimate price for us all. We should, therefore, readily accept His salvation by faith and not seek to please God merely by struggling to keep the Old Testament laws. We are saved, strengthened and sustained in our Christian life only by faith. God demands nothing more from us than to take Him at His word, trust Him to fulfill all His promises and follow Him obediently for the rest of our lives. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Faith only is the key to God’s heart. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE |

Daily Manna: Knowing The Terror Of God! Tuesday 09, July 2013 TEXT: EZEKIEL 3:15-21 KEY VERSE: “Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me” (Ezekiel 3:17). Many times, we desire great privileges, responsibilities and reward. We pick and choose those assignments that we think will lead us to quick realization of these incentives. And because we are not patient enough to wait until the Lord hands us His mandate, most times, we miss the mark of His expectation. Not so for Ezekiel. The Lord had called him to be a messenger to the people of Israel. But He did not immediately outline his responsibility. It was, therefore, incumbent on Ezekiel to wait patiently for seven days until the Lord told him the task he was to carry out. He was being sent as a watchman to the Israelites. God would speak to him, and he in turn was to convey the same words to the people of Israel. He would essentially address two categories of people: the wicked and the good. He was to warn the wicked to change their sinful ways in order to avoid God’s judgment. The Lord has called us, essentially to carry out a labour of love for sinners and believers alike. All around us, sinners are sinking deeper into evil, and are dying and heading into a doomed eternity. It is our duty, as believers, to warn them of the danger ahead, and hopefully, win them to Jesus Christ. We are also to warn believers against backsliding irrespective of the pressure they face. If we do this conscientiously, God would appreciate our efforts. But if we fail to do it, we would be guilty of disobedience. The question is: when last did you warn someone against sin? THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: “He that winneth souls is wise.” ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE |
God will be God this is an important topic and i think MODs should make it to front page |
Sorry for Not posting yesterdays Topic i would have skipped it but i felt within me someone might be interested cos its an important issue...God bless you as you read them all Daily Manna: Music That Pleases God Sunday 7, July 2013 TEXT: 2 CHRONICLES 7:1-11 KEY VERSE: “And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood” (2 Chronicles 7:6). According to Greek mythology, sirens (dangerous and beautiful creatures) inhabited certain Mediterranean coastal areas. As ships passed by, the sirens sang such enchanting songs that the sailors, drawn by the music, would jump overboard and drown. Odysseus, a legendary Greek king was on a ship that had to pass that way. Aware of the powerful allurement of those songs, he ordered that he be bound with ropes to the mast and that the crewmen’s ears be sealed with wax to block out the tantalizing music of the sirens. Having taken such precautions, Odysseus and the rest of the crew were able to sail past without yielding to the lure of the sea nymphs. Today’s lesson opens with the completion of the temple’s construction, and the gathering of the chiefs of Israel with King Solomon at Jerusalem for its dedication. While the priests proceeded with their work of placing the Ark, the Levites, having psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the brazen altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets. It came to pass that the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voices with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, the house (Temple) was filled with the cloud, which symbolized the Lord’s presence. The question of ‘what type of music’ is biblically appropriate for the Church is one which has been a controversial subject for many years. Sensual music or lyrics which merely arouses the base instincts of man and instigates people to gyrate seductively cannot be of God and must be avoided. But the music which edifies the spirit and elevates the heart to be in tune with the Almighty is that which saints must pant after. In all things, we are not to please ourselves but God Who is our Creator and Redeemer. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Pleasing God in all things is the catch-phrase of true saints. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE Daily Manna: Dealing with Debts Monday 8, July 2013 TEXT: 2 KINGS 4:1-7 KEY VERSE: “Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest” (2 Kings 4:7). Spurgeon was once invited by a wealthy man to come down and preach in a country church in order to help them raise funds to pay a debt. The man told Spurgeon he was free to use his country house, his town house, or his seaside home. Spurgeon declined coming; he wrote back and said, ‘Sell one of your homes and pay the debt yourself.’ In the text under consideration, this woman had suffered the death of her husband. She had creditors who pestered her because her husband had left her with much debt, and now the bondsmen had come to make her sons work off the debt (as slaves). Elisha came to speak a word to her to properly align her. Miraculously, her oil was multiplied and very soon she was in business. Elisha told her to pay her debt first and live on the rest. It has been reported widely that the average American family holds over $10,000 dollars in credit card debt alone. Wouldn't it be great if someone paid off all mortgage commitments, student loans, and car payments such that every debt is invariably wiped out? Student, family and business debts can seem so enormous that the task of dealing with them appears insurmountable. The good news is that fairly minor changes in one’s lifestyle, finances and attitude can go a long way in solving the problem. With planning and commitment backed-up by prayer of faith, most debt problems can be resolved through strategic thinking and prudence. We must learn to live free of debts by budgeting, staying within the limits of our incomes and avoiding unnecessary expenses. Do not be unrealistic about the budget you set for yourself. If you set targets you can’t achieve, you will become demoralized and find it harder to manage your situation. Finally, avoid worry and anxiety – these are two grave diggers. They tend to bury you while you are still alive. Above all, ask and receive godly wisdom to overcome all the challenges of life. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The debtor is often a victim of inordinate appetites. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE |
Daily Manna: Danger of Compromise "Saturday 6, July 2013" *TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 6:11-18** **"KEY VERSE: “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you” (2 Corinthians 6:17)."* In the early years of the twentieth century, there was a bank robber in the West called Black Bart. He was so successful that he threatened to bankrupt the Wells-Fargo Company. The problem was solved when the company gave Black Bart a pension on condition that he must retire and stay off the highways. But we cannot forge such compromises in our own lives with the devil. It is perfectly clear from our text that a believer’s business in the world is to be conducted in the name of the Lord Jesus, and to the glory of God. He ought to “buy” and “sell” to the glory of God. There is danger in compromising with unbelievers: it ends up dragging down the believer from the faith. The idea of compromise and unequal yoke comes from a farming analogy wherein two animals of differing kinds and strength are coupled together in order to plough a field, a practice which was forbidden to the Jews under the Old Testament law (Deuteronomy 22:10). The yoke is a harness which joins two animals side by side. Obviously, if a stronger, more dominant animal is joined with a weaker one, both animals will suffer, and in particular, the weaker animal is going to be chaffed and damaged by the pull of the stronger. The idea is that the Christian is not to enter into any binding partnership with those who do not share his faith. The place from which we can exert the strongest influence for good is not from within, but from without. Lot lost all influence of his life in Sodom; but Abraham, from the heights of Mamre, was able to exert a mighty influence on its history. Do not touch compromise with a ten-feet pole! *THOUGHT FOR THE DAY*: Do not dine with Satan, even with a long spoon. ****Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Daily Manna: A Voice Against Hatred Friday 5, July 2013 TEXT: 2 SAMUEL 6:8-18 KEY VERSE: “And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart” (2 Samuel 6:16). Leonardo Da Vinci, just before he commenced work on his “Last Supper”, had a violent argument with a fellow painter. Leonardo was so bitter that he determined to paint the face of his enemy, the other artist, into the face of Judas, and thus take his revenge by handing the man down in infamy and scorn to succeeding generations. The face of Judas was, therefore, one of the first he finished. And everyone could easily recognize it as the face of the painter with whom he had quarreled. But when he came to paint the face of Christ, he could make no progress. Something seemed to be baffling him, holding him back, frustrating his best efforts. Finally, he overcame hatred with forgiveness and was then able to resume his work on the face of Jesus and this time did it with the success that the ages have acclaimed. When Da Vinci moved past his right to take revenge and made the right response instead, he broke the power of hatred and allowed the love of Christ to have the last word. From our text, Michal viewed David with contempt on the day that the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem. When she fussed at him for behaving in an undignified manner while celebrating its arrival, David humiliated her in return. And the Bible says that she was barren throughout her life. Like Michal, we may look back through our lives and discover key moments where anger and hurt turned to bitterness, even despair. We, too, can easily find people in our lives to blame. We can even blame God, beginning to question whether or not He is a loving God or a harsh taskmaster. And we can choose to dwell in that bitter place where we find ourselves. We cannot always choose what comes to us because of circumstances. But we can choose the love of God. We can choose Christ, our ever-ready Burden Bearer. The choice is entirely yours. Daily Manna: A Gradual Fall Thursday 4, July 2013 TEXT: GALATIANS 4:12-20 KEY VERSE: “Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.” (Galatians 4:15). A foolish old farmer, so the story goes, concluded one day that the oat he had fed his mule for years was simply costing him too much. So he hatched a plan: he mixed a little sawdust with the feed, and then a little more the next day, and even more the next, each time reducing the amount of oats in the mix. The mule didn’t seem to notice the gradual change, so the farmer thought things were fine and kept decreasing the proportion of oats. But weeks later, on the day he finally fed the poor beast nothing but sawdust, the mule finished the meal and fell over dead. A silly tale, perhaps, but it serves as a parable of the backslider - the Christian who slips farther and farther away from God through unrepented sin or neglect. Like the foolish farmer, the Galatian Christians acted in the opposite manner. In the beginning, they were on fire for Jesus, full of gratitude for His salvation. They treated Paul, the apostle like he was an angel of God. But the moment they traded their faith for a rule-keeping system of legalism, they squandered the hard-won gift of grace that Jesus obtained on the Cross. Paul lamented over their fall. He warned them in our text that the false teachers in Galatia were zealous, but not for good. They were zealous to win people to themselves, and to their way of thinking. The backsliding of most Christians always take a gradual process. They gradually decline spiritually, then find themselves in trouble and wonder how it happened. They leave their first love (Revelation 2:4) and start living for the flesh (Galatians 3:1-3). That is why our Lord admonished us to watch and pray (Matthew 26:41). When we least expect it, the germ of sin can enter the system. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The enemy specializes in throwing water on our fire. ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE |

Daily Manna: Faith In The Fiery Furnace Wednesday, July 3, 2013 Text:JOB 5:17-27 Key verse: "He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall be no evil touch thee" (Job 5:19). When 38-year-old Carlotta Bennett realized the water in her house had reached her family`s hiding place in the attic, she lost control of her emotions. She had good reasons to panic. Hurricane Katrina was blowing sections of the roof off her home; her house was off its foundation, and the rising water was threatening to drown the five people trapped in the attic. Two huge trees had fallen around the house, one in front, the other at the back. As the house shifted from side to side, the trees wedged the house in place and kept it from collapsing. Nevertheless, every new blast of wind, and the rising water, threatened to kill the entire family. That`s when Carlotta`s 4-year-old daughter decided it was time to pray. When the child finished praying, the water started receding. All five members made their way out of the building to safety. Thankfully, the Bible isn`t silent on the the subject of suffering. One of the oldest stories in recorded history in the Bible pictures a man named Job who experienced so much suffering. Many wondered how he managed to cope. In fact, the way he dealt with his suffering has been a source of strength ever since people began searching the Bible for answers. Although his friends were "miserable comforters". most of the time, Job never allowed their cynical remarks to sway him from the course of righteousness. Many things about faith do not necessarily make sense to those outside the circle faith. What are our options in the midst of out-of-control suffering? On the one hand, we could reject the God who allows suffering, as many do. On the other, we could trust the only Being who is control of the universe. Exercising faith in times of suffering may sound ridiculous, but placing your life in the hands of the only God who can take care of you in this world and the next is ultimately the only logical action a person can ever take. Thought For The Day: The fiery furnace is usually the place where the valiant are produced ***Share your thoughts and what you've just learnt in the comments section below. Don't forget to SHARE |
