Politics › Re: Messiah: Igbos Dangerous Pursuit Of A Political Savior - Fatima Abubakar by History555: 5:31pm On Mar 26, 2023 |
tsephanyah: In Judaism, the “messiah” is not a god, nor the son of a god. The messiah is expected to show up as a politician who rises to nearly divine status. If you’re following today’s politics, this definition may not come as a surprise to you.
Political rallies are taking on all the religious fervor of old tent revivals. A politician’s tenets are becoming articles of faith, and their followers are slavishly dedicated- to the point of worship- to a cult of personality
One need only spend 10 minutes on Nairaland to find a Obi supporters threatening everyone else with hellfire Busy, terrified, furious, and often ill-informed voters seem obsessed with chasing a phantom — “the perfect person”, a flawless ideologue more interested in remaking Nigeria in his own image (always that of an angry Biafrans) than running the country.
Most voters agree we have problems, but many voters think picking the correct Messiah is the solution. They fail to see the desire for a Messiah is one of the most direct dangers to democracy in Nigeria history.
While the desire for a populist ideologue goes far beyond two or three parties, there’s no question Obi has the most dedicated, and the scariest, followers, but Tinubu's isn’t far behind, with citizens sounding like Inquisitional judges in the face of disagreement of any kind.
How extreme are voters getting? i interviewed a Christian who said he trusted Obi over Jesus. Obi supporters everywhere turn on their friends- most recently Aisha Yusufu— in mere seconds for daring to disagree with their Fuhrer. Half of Enugu disbelieves a mountain of evidence against him because he’s their chosen ideologue.
Obi and tinubu are certainly not the only politicians of course to be treated more like gods than men, and I’m not equating the two in any way, except that they both have massive cults of personality.
Extremist followers on both the LP (the entire LP at this point) and APC however often indulge in the same justification for their cruelty:
“We will engage in any behavior we like and you will put up with it because we are victims, we are ignored, but most of all, we are furiously angry.” Anger is Nigeria's morality car wash, and the less self-control a person has, the more easily they are forgiven anything.
Unquestioning devotion to a political messiah has created Biafrans in which compromise is a dirty word and patriotism is not defined by dedication to freedom, but rather loyalty to one individual.
There is no separation of church and state because the cult of personality becomes the only acceptable faith. One in which very flawed humans are becoming untouchable saints leading an army of zombie-like followers for whom individual thought is forbidden, education a laughingstock, reason a mortal sin, and savagery the only tongue in which they speak.
No matter what your beliefs, worldview, or lack thereof, when voters go looking for a savior among the most corrupt people on earth, Azikiwe, ojukwu, effiong, kanu, Simon now Obi, they will find nothing but a golden calf. When they go searching for someone to do their thinking for them, they will find plenty of political preachers eager to fill their minds with lies and nonsense.
There is no substitute for your own five senses. There is no substitute for the real compassion that comes naturally to you. There is no substitute for using your own brain. Use it wisely. Trash. Coming from people who see abacha, ibb, abdulsalami, buhari as messiahs |

Olachase: @O.P make ur point bold Seems there's something I'm getting wrong, I think you mean to say it cus of the Igbos present that's making lagos progress, have you forgotten we have other tribes here in lagos, and I think you are trying to say without the Igbos south west can't progress My point is simple millions of igbos in lagos, making money and spending it buying land and building house is plain stupid. Even northerners in lagos are not doing that. Bottom line there is nothing wrong with making money all over Nigeria but forgetting ur homeland is plain stupid. |

Politics › Igbos And Lagos by History555(op): 1:37pm On Mar 26, 2023 |
Igbos need to understand that their presence in lagos in millions is a big plus to lagos and a very big minus to the south east. Look around the 36 states in Nigeria, u will observe that no state where the indigenous people makes up a greater percentage of the residents is making it big like lagos.
Therefore its imperative igbos make plans to leave lagos for good. Look at the north, they come in large nos, make money in lagos and go back home to build their lands. But not so for igbos who think they are wise, u make money in lagos, rather than return home, u start buying land and building house in lagos. Instead of building small houses, u start building big houses. Very unfortunate.
Igbos need to understand that the reason lagos haa the highest no of financial institutions, private schools, private hospitals, hotels, event centre, petrol stations, gas plant, highest no of sme, churches, insurance companies, fastfood service, vat, highest igr, billions generated in land use, billions in licensing fee, mot, taxes is simply because of presence of millions of lgbos. Ask ur self why is no other sw state experiencing that level of development. The answer is simple because majority of the residents are indigenous people with same habits and mentality.
Igbos need to stop certain things that they are presently doing in lagos and outside the se. Igbos need to stop buying land and building houses. If u don't have a house in the east, now is the time to look build now. A word is enough for the wise |

Pierocash: you can't dispense the Jews hope you know that.
Robert Mugabe thought the same way,but you can see the effect .
How many Yorubas are into commerce and trading? Forget emotions, even those who rules Lagos don't want igbos to leave, forget the divisive politics they play during election. Do you know how many billions in tax those guys contribute to Lagos? Who will pay the tax if you drive those investing in your state away? Igbos are not in Lagos like liabilities, they are major contributors to Lagos income, infrastructure ,and economy, you can't do without them The question is if lgbos leave, do they know the no of businesses that will close. Ex lagos alone has 7k bank branches. If millions of lgbos leave wat is the use of keeping 7k branches open. Many will close, with it many will loose their jobs directly and indirectly. Lagos will lose billions in income tax. That is just banks alone |

Because Hausa, Yoruba, Fulani, Calabar, etc were not threatened in the East.
In fact no where in Nigeria was any tribe threatened, not even in Kano, Kaduna, kastina, etc accept in Lagos.
Wtf Yorubas define omo ibo has anyone that is not yoruba in the sw. But in ph, uyo, they will not call them omo ibo. But once they enter lagos they bcom omo ibo |

Lagos is thinking of Turning Alaba International,Ladipo and Computer Village into High Tech Modern Cattle Ranches for our Northern Brethen who stood with us in Lagos hour of need
In the Meantime Lagos Should rename Alaba International Market to Gen Yakubu Gowon International Market
Ipob were already claiming last year that Alaba (Ala Aba) International belonged to them Pls turn it to cattle market and hopefully u will hve the guts to walk in there to serve them land use charge and other taxes seeing how lirs are scared to paste land use charge at alaba rago. |

Lagos does not need thousands of bank branches, insurance coy, petrol stations, billions in licensing and mot, eateries, event centre, thousands of pos, thousands of sme, churcjes, private schools and hospitals, thousands of buses generating funds for mc olumo. All because of population. Let other states experience such. Igbos must go home whether they like it or not. How can millons of one tribe be in one state. Wat rubbish |

Yamiriflathead: Good and since Lagos makes futuristic plans based on it's enormous population, all policies will be made to accommodate and benefit only the Yorubas that were counted during the Census. Infact it's time for ibos to start paying double taxes in Lagos too
Let's see who go cry pass, meanwhile we can always smuggle in our brothers from Benin and Togo to increase Lagos population like Kano and co are doing too.
Cheers! Pls tell ur gov to enforce it. I want all lgbos in lagos to go home. Only lagos has 7000 bank branches when some states have only 50. For wat. because of population. Igbos must go home. Whether they like it or not. |

U are proud to be the biggest landlord in another man land while ur own land is begging for investment. Shame. By the way u are not the biggest landlord. Yorubas own thrice more houses than lgbos. That's how el rufai pull ur mumu plug by claiming lgbos own 50% houses in Abuja and folks like u believe him. Na only lgbos sabi build house |
