Do not just re-phrase the contents from other websites. Create your contents and publish regularly. Consider contents as the blood of the body of your website. When writing contents, focus on your audience. But for this, you have to do some hard work. Do the following:

i. Think about your target customers. Who are they what are their problems and issues. Most website owners have an only vague concept of their clients. They think of just some random people interested in their products. You should clearly and precisely define your target clients and build a "customer persona" for your business. Only then you can target them in your campaigns.

ii. Go to Yahoo Answers, Quora and other similar websites and try to find out what questions, people are asking in your niche. These are their pain points and you have to address the answers to these issues in your contents.

iv. Before you start writing using the tool called Buzzsumo to get an idea of what titles are getting backlinks and social shares. Make your title and get some ideas of subheadings.

3. Link Building

Try to understand what is link building and how it differs from spamming. A backlink is a link pointing to your website from another site. You do not need thousands of backlinks as many people try to promote. You only need few but high-quality backlinks. The most important thing about backlinks is relevancy. These links should be coming from relevant websites. Now the point to note here is that the relevant websites are most of the time your competitors. However, if you try, you would find few highly relevant websites which are not your competitors. Do not just focus on websites with very high domain authority. If you do not know what a domain authority is, use two of your free daily searches on Moz website and find out the domain authority and page authority of any internet site. Do not get frustrated, link-building is a slow process and increasing the visibility of your website is a long term commitment. Therefore, just proceed forward, slow and steady, bit-by-bit. Also, try to earn links with your contents as mentioned above.

4. Social Media Engagement

Everyone knows that social media is important to get your website visible. However, there are some very critical points you should take note of and I will try to put only a short mention of those here in this post. It is because every single one of them needs further explanation and I will cover this in my future posts. Some of the important points are the following:

i. For a continuous visibility and traffic to your website, you need a constant engagement with your audience and not just occasional interaction. For this you need first to figure out what types of contents are needed for that. Also, there are certain engagement metrics in Google analytics which you must understand and monitor. Videos are also good for engagement. If you are shy of the camera, not a problem! Just screen capture videos are enough for engagement. These are three points and the rest will be covered in a separate post with an explanation to these three.

ii. If you find social media overwhelming, then use the tools such as coschedule or hootsuite.

iii. The last but not least is trying to find the "hottest" social media and focus on that. People have gained a lot of visibility, traffic and money from Facebook and LinkedIn in good times. However, now, in my opinion these two are dead dogs for small businesses until you pay them a huge sum of money. However, the Facebook advertisement is still cheap and if you know how to make a good custom or lookalike audience for Facebook ads then you can try that and tweak that until you get results.

5. Promote Your Business Website Locally and outside of online media.
There are still a huge number of people who prefer paper format. There are many local magazines out there which have a large circulation and advertising there could be on a budget or even free. You can talk to your council or local clubs and you might be able to get a free advertisement or at a nominal price.

I recently started working with a company who offers a drop-ship online service, and they got cheated by a supposed SEO company who took their investment and never logged into their site once. I always hate it when a few bad apples make business hard for others in the industry.
I always look at a company website as being a storefront, and if you retain my services, it is my job to drive qualified traffic to your site. The content, and calls to action, on the website, should be compelling enough to clearly speak to the user’s needs / interests and make them convert. Now the term convert is often a bit of a grey area. In the world of marketing, conversion is someone who clicks on a call to action and does one of three things: requests a call, downloads some collateral, or registers for something. (I realize that I am generalizing, but for the purposes of this article, those three criteria will work).
If you are in sales, conversion is a request for quote, a request for more information, or a request to give you money now. That difference makes it often complicated for those in the digital marketing field to present options to management for funding to increase sales pipelines.
Some of the techniques that I teach marketers is to look at all of the “no-cost” options to increase sales funnels are known to them, and that they only rely on PPC (Pay Per Click Campaigns) as a last resort. I hate spending money when I don’t have too.
Here are some “White Hat” (Good Guy) techniques for optimizing your website to perform better for you without shelling out cash.

Keep your website as easy to crawl as possible- In the military, we lived by the KISS principle (Keep it Simple Stupid), and it is a rule that continues to prove true. What you want are spiders to be able to visit your page and very easily understand the content on that page. The text is easy to read, and the images, or embedded videos, are properly tagged so that they can be easily indexed. If your website is not responsive, or too complicated, the spiders get confused and drop indexing it. Clear, good-looking, and responsive design make your website stand out from your competitors.
Look at leveraging industry experts to boost your rankings- This is a concept that throws some people off. People will create blogs for a variety of reasons and proclaim themselves “industry experts,” the problem lies in the “expert’s ability to create content that solves the problems of the client. The other question that remains is, are the people actually credible and worthy of internet amplification? In other words, do readers care about what this expert has to say?

We know that Facebook is placing a hiring ranking on social sharing, so we want to include social sharing as a strategy for us to build followers, leads, and expand our digital footprint.

As a marketer, we want to ensure that we do not frustrate the searcher or Google. We want to humanize the expert and make their posts appeal to Google searches.

The third tip is the most important. Make the page load quickly- There is nothing worse on a tablet or phone. I find that often simple mistake like not optimizing images. We live in an age of instant gratification, and any more than a three-second pause for a page to load causes stress for the end-user. They often leave and move to a competitor’s site. Look at your website from a complete end-user experience (UX Experience). This will ensure that your website will look good on every platform, and that is what every business wants. With Google delivering so much traffic, it is only normal to be eager to submit your page and have it indexed as soon as possible. However, submitting your page is not your only option, and it's not the best one. If this sounds strange keep reading.
Talking about its indexing process, Google says:
"We add thousands of new sites to our index each time we crawl the Web, but if you like, you may submit your URL as well. Submission is not necessary and does not guarantee inclusion in our index. Given the large number of sites submitting URLs, it's likely your pages will be found in an automatic crawl before they make it into our index through the URL submission form."

We can therefore draw two conclusions:
1. Submitting your site does not guarantee inclusion.
2. Most pages are found and indexed automatically, when Google crawls the web.
The Google folks have also made it clear that Google gives a page more importance when it is found through an automatic crawl. A manually submitted page will not enjoy this benefit.

These sites will post your article, so that online publishers can use them for free in exchange for including your resource box at the end of the article. A resource box (a.k.a. bylines) is a small paragraph about yourself, written by you, which contains a link to your homepage.
In very little time, your article will show up in websites and ezines across the web. It will then be just a matter of time (usually days) before Google crawls those pages and finds your links. If you followed good web design practices and have included a link to a site map in your homepage, Google will follow it as soon as it finds your homepage, and all your pages will be indexed. It's as simple as that.

Using an external Java Script file to do the job will reduce page size and make it easier for both spiders and browsers to download the page. Using Cascading Style Sheets can reduce page size and making the download time much faster in most cases. It will allow the spider to index your web page faster and can help your ranking.

Avoid using web page creators such as FrontPage, Dreamweaver or a WYSIWYG editor. Software such as that will often times add scripting code that is not needed, making the page larger than it needed to be and making it harder to crawl. It will also add code that can't be read by the search engines, causing the spider not to index the page or not index the whole web page. It is better to use standard HTML. Adding code that they can't read or have a hard time to read can lead to major problems with your ranking.
Try not to use Flash when possible. Flash cannot be read by the search engines to date and will cause download time to slow a bit. If you do decide to use Flash anyway, make sure you add text to the web page, so the search engines have something to read and find out what your web page is about. It will also allow your visitors to have something to read while the Flash file loads. Also don't use Flash as a way of navigation, as I said before spiders cannot read Flash.
It's important to add a site map to your web site. Not only will this make it easier for internet surfers to get around your web site, but it will also allow spiders to find your site's content easier and index your web page sooner. The site map should contain text links and not image links.
I highly suggest that you look at your web page with a Lynx browser because this is similar to how search engines will view your web page. There are other tools on the internet that will allow you to view your web page without a Lynx browser, but see a web page just like it, so you may want to check those out as well.

When it comes to traffic you have a few choices. You can pay for your traffic, get free traffic or do both like me.

Let's start with Paid traffic.
I love paid traffic because it allows you to quickly get large amounts of traffic to your site and start earning money from day 1.
I use 2 traffic networks to drive visitors to my content.
1. Outbrain
2. Taboola
Like I mentioned in the beginning of this course, Outbrain and Taboola have their related content widgets installed on thousands of high quality websites such as CNN, Yahoo, Seattle Times, GolfWRX and a ton more.
I bet you have seen these widgets on a lot of sites that you frequent. We as advertisers can then have our content appear in those widgets and pay a fee every time someone clicks on our content.
Since our content is awesome and interesting, people click on them like crazy.
I have discovered a way to pay as little as 3 cents per click for my content.
Make sure to upload at least 2 different titles for your article and make the titles as catchy as possible.
Do the same thing with the image. Upload at least 2 catchy images for your article.
You can do this from within Outbrain's interface. I also suggest you watch their training videos on how to do these things in your account.
Now, start your bid at around 11 - 14 cents per click and run it for a few hours to a day. Set your daily budget to $10.
After you've reached your daily budget, look at your CTR for your article. If your CTR is above 0.4% then you are doing great and you should drop your bid to $0.07.
Then run your content again for another day until you've spent your $10 budget.

I suggest you start with Outbrain first. Put 5 new posts on your site and add them to Outbrain like I show.
Go to your AdSense account and add those 5 post URLS to your URL channels.
When you add a URL to URL channels on AdSense, it will track all the AdSense earnings for that specific post. This way you will know how much each of your posts is earning on AdSense.
Let's do some Math.
If you have a post promoted on Outbrain and you got 200 clicks to that post at a cost of 3 cents each, it will cost you $6 total.
Now, if you make that $6 back or more with AdSense earnings you are in the profit. Because, remember you still have Content.ad and Disquss Related content ads making you money as well.
Unfortunately those platforms do not allow us to track our post earnings individually but that is fine. AdSense is the main earner anyway.
Let me show you an example of one of my post earnings. This was over a 2 week span.
If you look at the first URL channel you will see that it got 91,064 visitors and 10,666 clicked on an ad which resulted in me earning $3,140 on that post.
I paid 3 cents per visitor from Outbrain and Taboola at a cost of $2,731.00 That left me with a profit of $409.00 from AdSense alone.
This is awesome because remember I am also earning from Content.ad and Disquss.
Content.ad earns much better so let's have a look at the average earnings for the site during the same 2 week span.
As you can see on Average 7.16% of people who visit my site clicks on a Content.ad story which earns me $0.11 per click.
So, from my first post we can say that 7.16% of the 91,064 people clicked on Content.ad which is 6,370 clicks and earned me 11 cents each for a total of $700.00
I made $400.00 profit on AdSense and $700.00 on Content.ad plus a little bit on Disquss for a total of around $1,100.00
That's not bad for a post that took me 20 minutes to create and another 20 minutes to add to Outbrain and Taboola.
Now, I have a lot of other posts running as well. Lots of them are also profitable and some of them aren't. If a post is not profitable then you just pause it on Outbrain. If you find a winner then you immediately add it to Taboola as well to get as much traffic as you can.
You only need a handful of posts to be winners in order to make great money with this method.
Set your initial budget to around $5 or $10 per day just to test until you find a winner.
Then up your budget and turn the traffic loose.
By the way, that post I just showed you was a simple post I made by embedding a popular YouTube video and writing a 300 word description.
I hope a light bulb just went off in your head. Can you see how easy and profitable this can be? It's all got to do with some basic math.
This is exactly how I grew my site to $6K profit per month within 3 months.
I tell you, I love paid traffic because I am in control and it is an instant thing. You add your content to Outbrain and Taboola and turn the campaign on.
Within hours you see floods of traffic coming to your site. It is awesome!
Free Traffic Method
If you do not want to spend money on traffic, that is fine as well. You can totally grow your site by just using social media sites to promote your content.
This is something I am also actively doing while my paid campaigns are running.
Create a nice Facebook page for your site and also a Twitter account. Start following the other sites in your niche and befriend their followers.
Comment on their Facebook pages and follow their fans on Twitter. Lots of them will start to follow you back and also like your fan page.
Do not go out there and post links to your stuff on other pages. That comes across as being spammy and it will get you blocked quickly.
Leave insightful comments on their pages and become part of the community.
People will start to take notice of you and like your fan page or follow you on Twitter.
Then they will start seeing the content you post on your Fan page and Twitter page.
If you post good content with catchy headlines like I showed you then the people will click on to your site and start sharing your content.
Before you know it you will start seeing traffic and earnings coming in. Then as you go on it will start to snowball and get better and better all the time as more and more people start following your site.
Google will also start sending you traffic once it sees that a lot of people are liking and sharing your content.
They will rank your pages for a lot of related searches on Google which will result in a lot of good free traffic over time. The thing with free traffic is that it will take some time.
You have to be prepared to stick with it and be consistent for a while until you start developing a following and then you will start seeing results. There you have it.
Create one of these sites and stick with it for a few months to see how your financial life changes.

4. Optimize your Title tag. Many search engines give considerable weight to the html title tag on the page. It is the first element the search engine will scan and weight. When yo create a title tag, include keywords and write it to catch the attention of the users be scanning lengthy lists of titles in search engine results.

Obviously if you don't use the ALT tag, then images on your site won't be properly cataloged. When using the alt tag, be sure to use a keyword or phrase describing the content of the image.
8. Use the Title tag on links. Search engines look at all text on the site, including the title tag on the links on your site. Most sites still don't use the link title tag, so when you do, you gain an advantage. The link title should be a short keyword or phrase.
My advice - Check out how the pages on my site have a left navigation menu filled with department names. I try to make these names keywords for my site, and the link to the departments all make use of the title tag. Doing it this way means that the search engine ranks the department names twice. Once as text, and again as a Link Title Tag.
9. Provide a Link Trail. Search engines coming to your site follow the links on the front page that lead into your site. These links should provide a 2 level trail to all pages on your site. If you don't provide a link trail, the search engines probably won't find all your pages. (And even if you do provide a 'link trail' - if you use the same title tag and Meta tags on your pages, the search engine may ignore all the pages beyond the first one.)
My advice - check out how every page on my site has a one click link trail to any department on the site. You are never more than two clicks away from any page. Plus every page has at least 30 different link trails (through the departments) making it easy for visitors as well as search engine spiders to move through the site.
10. Avoid the Penalty Box. Search engines are getting smarter every day, and they will penalize a site if it violates search engine rules. These rules include:
Keyword spoofing - using keywords not related to site content
Keyword spamming - pasting hundreds of copies of the keywords on the page just to get high ranking
Numerous doorway pages - using hundreds of index pages that do nothing but point to the site
Link Spamming - submitting links to the 500,000 link submission services
Page Redirects - not necessarily a major penalty, but can cause loss of ranking
Frames on Main Page - not necessarily a major penalty, but can cause loss of ranking
Flash Movie on Main Page - not necessarily a major penalty, but can cause loss of ranking
My advice: Keep in mind that search engines are intelligent software. When they visit a page they try to determine what the page is about, relying primarily on the titles, headlines, text, links, and images on the page. That's why it is important to focus on those elements, and avoid the ones that can put you in the penalty box.
11. Check for errors. Before you submit your page to the search engines, run the page through an html checker and a spelling checker. Search engines do check and take into consideration spelling and html errors, and will penalize a page that has too many of either.
My advice - take the time to do it right. If you get a poor ranking on a search engine it might be six weeks before the search engine comes back to re-rank you. Get it right before you submit to the search engines, and then keep it right so when the search engine returns, you will continue to get high rankings.
12. Manually submit the site. Don't be tempted to use an automatic site submission program. They don't work, and can get you penalized. Better to manually submit your site to the top search engines. Yahoo, Google, MSN.
My advice - Start with Google.com, then yahoo.com, and then MSN.com. Each has a place to register your site with their search engine.
This may seem a lot of work, but if you do it right and get high rankings, it will pay off.

iv. Before you start writing using the tool called Buzzsumo to get an idea of what titles are getting backlinks and social shares. Make your title and get some ideas of subheadings.
3. Link Building
Try to understand what is link building and how it differs from spamming. A backlink is a link pointing to your website from another site. You do not need thousands of backlinks as many people try to promote. You only need few but high-quality backlinks. The most important thing about backlinks is relevancy. These links should be coming from relevant websites. Now the point to note here is that the relevant websites are most of the time your competitors. However, if you try, you would find few highly relevant websites which are not your competitors. Do not just focus on websites with very high domain authority. If you do not know what a domain authority is, use two of your free daily searches on Moz website and find out the domain authority and page authority of any internet site. Do not get frustrated, link-building is a slow process and increasing the visibility of your website is a long term commitment. Therefore, just proceed forward, slow and steady, bit-by-bit. Also, try to earn links with your contents as mentioned above.
4. Social Media Engagement
Everyone knows that social media is important to get your website visible. However, there are some very critical points you should take note of and I will try to put only a short mention of those here in this post. It is because every single one of them needs further explanation and I will cover this in my future posts. Some of the important points are the following:
i. For a continuous visibility and traffic to your website, you need a constant engagement with your audience and not just occasional interaction. For this you need first to figure out what types of contents are needed for that. Also, there are certain engagement metrics in Google analytics which you must understand and monitor. Videos are also good for engagement. If you are shy of the camera, not a problem! Just screen capture videos are enough for engagement. These are three points and the rest will be covered in a separate post with an explanation to these three.
ii. If you find social media overwhelming, then use the tools such as coschedule or hootsuite.
iii. The last but not least is trying to find the "hottest" social media and focus on that. People have gained a lot of visibility, traffic and money from Facebook and LinkedIn in good times. However, now, in my opinion these two are dead dogs for small businesses until you pay them a huge sum of money. However, the Facebook advertisement is still cheap and if you know how to make a good custom or lookalike audience for Facebook ads then you can try that and tweak that until you get results.
5. Promote Your Business Website Locally and outside of online media.
There are still a huge number of people who prefer paper format. There are many local magazines out there which have a large circulation and advertising there could be on a budget or even free. You can talk to your council or local clubs and you might be able to get a free advertisement or at a nominal price.
