occam: And one of the suspect is a woman Cynthia Chinwo wow!Ozioma is a female name. So one of the suspects: Ozioma Abajuo is most likely a woman too. |
Has GEJ made a statement on the killings at UniPort? If not, he needs to say something. The case of Trayvon Martin (an un-armed teenager killed by a vigilante in the US) did not gain momentum until Obama spoke about it. If GEJ does not speak up, this case might eventually be swept under the carpet. |
For the sake of transparency, below is a rough translation of the sentences written in the Igbo language: NRI PRIEST:God in heaven, please come and hear the cries of your children, their cries and their tears. . .my heart is broken!! sleekcm:An abomination has occurred. My brethren have died violently. freecocoa:Well, God is still alive. . . May their souls rest in peace, this is a thing of sadness, my eyes are filled with tears. My brethren, take heart. |
Seun:Thanks for deleting the pictures. Will let you know if I see more. |
@ The Moderators, About 3 days ago, Isale_gan2 brought your attention to several x-rated pictures on a particular thread here. I was hoping that by now, the pictures should have been deleted. But when I checked a few minutes ago, they were still there in all their gory details. Sadly these pictures appear to have been there since September 2010. Unless such pictures are permitted here, please delete them as soon as possible. Here's the link: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-507123.64.html#msg6689732 |
~Bluetooth:Disguised IDs do not count. On FB, GEJ appears as himself. |
tpia@:I don't know NL too well, but I know discussions can be rough and ugly. That's why I suggested that their posts be fully moderated. You said a high level of p.orn exist on NL. Is it sanctioned by the owners? If not, then the moderator of that section must be failing in his duties. Not to argue with you, such practices also exist under the radar on FB. |
snowdrops:FB too was once a local champion. Do you know that when it started, it was only accessed by University students. Back then, it was known as FaceMash. |
By now, most of us are aware that GEJ is very active on Facebook. We are also aware that Facebook is an American-based company. This means that all the revenue GEJ generates for them through his hundreds of thousands of friends stays overseas. This leads one to wonder why GEJ and other prominent Nigerians are not on Nairaland which arguably is the most popular forum in Nigeria and thus the closest thing to Facebook. It could be that they wish to avoid the inevitable insults they will receive on a forum such as NL. But then, they get the same insults on Facebook albeit to a lesser extent. Has any top official of NL made an attempt to get GEJ, Buhari, Ribadu etc on Nairaland? They don’t have to leave Facebook or whichever forum they presently belong. All they have to do is simultaneously post the same materials they post on such forums on NL. To make it attractive, they should be guaranteed that all their posts will be fully moderated. This means that every reply to their posts will be read and approved by a moderator before appearing on the boards. |
There is no doubt that Sunday's game between Chelsea and Liverpool is the game of the week. Most people will be watching to see how Torres performs. As the excitement builds, it is possible that he may not even play. I do not have any kind of secret information but it is likely that Torres will not start the match. As this is his first game for Chelsea, Ancellotti will likely reserve him for the second half. In that case, if Chelsea is up by 3 - 0 in the first half (which is possible), then Ancellotti may not bring him in at all. As long as Chelsea maintains a 3 goal cushion, that will be the case. This will save Torres the dilemma of playing against his former team so soon. Again, this is just conjecture. It may or may not happen that way. But if it happens, you read it here first. We will see on Sunday. |
4llerbuntu:But Superbowl is not on Cable. It is on free network tv. Maybe they don't want people outsite the US to watch it. |
More Sports websites including RojaDirecta seized. I don't know why they are doing this. Most of these sites don't actually show the games. They only provide links to sites where the games are available. Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/02/rojadirecta-org-seized_n_817458.html#comments |
While watching yesterday's EPL games online, I noticed that the popular sports streaming website ATDHE.net was offline. I tried several times to access it without success. Today, it is been reported that the US Dept of Homeland Security has seized the domain name due to "copyright violations". The US government may not care that ATDHE streams live sports games. I think they are concerned that they also show live programmes from US tv giants ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox. While ATDHE is offline, try www.FootBallStreaming.info for live European football matches. @ Krayola, Thank you for your post. At least you made out time to watch the speech. I doubt most people commenting here actually watched the speech. Again the only time I saw her stumble throughout the 5 minute speech was when she tried to pronounce a South African name. |
cap28:You truly believe that Mrs Jonathan cannot pronounce "women"? Well there is no point in taking this argument any further if that is the case. All I ask is that people take just 5 minutes, watch the speech and make up their own minds. It is at the link below for all to see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7bOClsDc-s |
DeeJay20:If you didn't notice, it appears the poster resides in the UK. The argument is now turning from "She can't read" to "Her English skills are crap". Which one is it because there is a big difference between the two. |
@ Cap28, Did you actually watch the speech on Youtube or are you going by what somebody told you? I have mentioned that the only place I saw her stumble was in trying to pronounce a South African name. Please point me to any other part of the speech where she stumbled. The fact that she does not speak with a British accent does not mean she cannot read. Did you hear the following people speak when they were in power: Murtala Mohammed Shehu Shagari Sani Abacha Olusegun Obasanjo Umaru Yar'adua Did you raise similar complaints? If not, you should because they all had thick Northern or Southern Nigerian accents. |
It is unfortunate that most people commenting on this topic did not bother to click and view the actual speech on Youtube. I did and find the poster's caption totally without merit. For the record, this is the poster's caption "Patience Jonathan Unable To Read Own Speech". Well I watched the whole 5.07 minutes of the speech on Youtube and can confirm that Mrs Jonathan read the speech without difficulty. The only place she stumbled was in trying to pronounce the name of a South African member of parliament. I'm sure many on us will have difficulty pronouncing South African names. It appears the poster has become used to seeing people speak with British accent. If he/she had complained about Mrs Jonathan's accent, then that will be another issue. But to state that she is unable to read her speech is totally false. The evidence is there for everybody to see. Just click on the Youtube link below. It is only 5 minutes long: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7bOClsDc-s |
I was watching the Blackpool vs Man U match yesterday. Man U were down 2-0 deep into the second half and Sir Alex decided to make a change. To everyone's surprise, he removed Rooney and brought in Chicharito. Thereafter, Man U scored three unanswered goals with Chicharito scoring the second. They went on to win the match 3-2. Now compare that with the situation at Chelsea. Drogba usually spends the better part of every game being unproductive. He generally stands around waiting for a golden opportunity to score. In the past few months, that golden opportunity has become quite scarce. Despite this glaring weakness, Ancellotti has never mustered the courage to substitute Drogba. He will substitute any other attacker including Anelka, Malouda, Kalou etc without hesitation but not Drogba. Yes, Drogba will be mad if he is substituted, but Ancellotti needs to do that sometimes if he wants Chelsea to make progress this year. There is nothing wrong in having Drogba play for 75 minutes and then bringing in Kalou, Sturridge or Kakuta if he is not productive. |
@ Starboard, Do you have the capacity to post a reply without resorting to insults. Each time you are confronted with facts, you try to change the subject. You accused me of being new to football. I then informed you that I actually watched the Rangers/Mehala match in 75/76. Now you are calling me old school. That is a tacit admission of defeat on your part. Yesterday was a public holiday in the US. They marked veterans day during which they honour all their veterans of war. It is regrettable that you seem to have little regard for our own veterans. No matter what you think of the defunct Biafra, you should not make light reference to the veterans of that war. This is where our conversation ends. I will absolutely ignore whatever you say from here on. |
I'm glad they used their hands instead of their guns. All the same, this is not a good sight. |
Nobody said Sir Alex hates Nigeria or Africa. That is not the arguement. Moreover what's the point of playing an exhibition game in a continent whose players you have decided not to sign. If I may ask, at that exhibition game, how many Nigerians or Africans featured for Man U? |
chamotex:You are actually correct. My statistics is not up to date. The Senegal international (Mame Diouf) made six appearances for United last season following his arrival from Norwegian club Molde in December last year.http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/b/blackburn_rovers/8894154.stm |
chamotex:Countries that qualified for the 2010 Cup of Nations did so well before Jan 2010. So it is highly probable that Sir Alex knew Senegal's fate before signing Diouf. We will talk about Senegal and 2012 when we get there. While you are all talking about Mame Diouf and Man Utd, here's his record there: Man Utd Apps As sub Goals Yellow Red Total (Club) 0 (0) 0 0 0 League 0 (0) 0 0 0 FA Cup 0 (0) 0 0 0 League Cup 0 (0) 0 0 0 European/Others 0 (0) 0 0 0 Yes, you read it correctly. He has played a total of zero games for Man U. |
@ Chamotex, This is all in line with what I have been saying. Sir Alex said he doesn't want to sign African players because of the Cup of Nations. The reverse of that statement is that he will sign African players without the Cup of Nations. The fact that Senegal didn't qualify for the 2010 Cup of Nations may have informed his decision to sign Diouf. This is now a mute point. CAF has essentially given in to pressure from people like Sir Alex and agreed to modify the schedule of the Cup of Nations. If I'm not mistaken, in the near future, it will be held in odd numbered years to avoid clashing with the world cup. I don't know if that will satisfy Sir Alex. |
@ Chamotex, Now I know why Sir Alex signed Mame Diouf. Please read the paragraph below from BBCnews.com: The forward (Mame Diouf) has made one appearance for the senior Senegal national side, and is at United's disposal next month because his country did not qualify for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/8428869.stm You see, Sir Alex signed him because he knew Senegal will not be going to the 2010 Cup of Nations. This all proves my point. There is truly a method to his madness. |
Everybody claims they support the club not the players. But once the club starts performing badly or is relegated, they all jump ship. I'm sure Portsmouth, Leeds, Crystal Palace, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Queens Park Rangers etc all had supporters when they were in the EPL. Now nobody wants to be identified with them. |
There are about 30 African players currently in the EPL. None of them plays for Man U. I have tried to explain why that is the case. Unfortunately, the Man U fans here will have none of it. They will rather attack the messenger instead of the message. As long as we don't call out Sir Alex on his bone-headed decision, it will be long time before you see another African play for Man U. In the meantime, go ahead and keep spending your money on Man U gear. |
@ Chamotex, You were trying to be clever by saying that Sir Alex signed Mame Diouf without revealing that Diouf actually plays for Blackburn. Anybody can tell you that Mame Diouf plays for Blackburn but I made a note of letting you know that the two Dioufs in Blackburn are not related to let you know that I actually watch them. |
chamotex:Mame Diouf plays for Blackburn not Man Utd. If you watch Blackburn play, you will hear the commentators say over and over that Mame Diouf and El-Hadji Diouf are not related. |
People, this is not my opinion. I'm stating a material fact. It is not hearsay. Sir Alex himself said he will not sign African players because he can't afford to lose them during the Cup of Nations. Let us stay on topic. I understand that the effect of that statement is less poignant because he said "African Players". If he had said "Nigerian Players", then more people will understand the gravity. |
Man Utd pursued Mikel Obi in 2005. Sir Alex publicly said he won't sign African players in 2009. Obviously what he said in 2009 overrides whatever he did or tried to do in 2005. Apparently, you are a die-hard Man U fan and that has clouded your sense of rational thought. I must add that I am not a Man U fan but any Manager that makes a similar statement will receive the same response from me. It is quite unfortunate for you to come here and defend a Manager that has made it clear that he has no use for your kith and kin. People like you will support a cause against their own self interest. It's just like a poor person in America voting for the Republican Party. Are you aware that if you happen to be the best player in the world, you will never play for Man U under the current dispensation? P.S: The fact that you decided to make light of the epic Rangers/Mehala match tells me you must be relatively new to football or do not care about football history. |
