Gamine:

@Hobgoby

whether hypothetical or not

u need money to tune things, to polish things wink
And yes suffer or enjoy is relative
but $10000000 is enjoyment for all!!! grin grin grin

enjoyment for all!!! You can say that again.

Mehn! Wat i'm gonna do with that kind of money!

The point i just want to drive out is that, nature sometimes put us in some situations that makes us discard our previous criteria. Sometimes we end up not having all the options that we tot we had. And in the long run we still turn out happy.
Romance / Re: No Finance, No Romance! by hobgoblin1(m): 3:26pm On Aug 30, 2007
@Gamine
thats why i say 'NO ROMANCE, NO FINANCE' is just hypothetical. Other factors come into play.

'Suffer' can be a relative term. If he cant afford 'CORONA' as a school, that doesnt mean the child would die or turn out to be a vagabond.
Education / Re: Nigerian Boarding House Stories And Pictures by hobgoblin1(m): 3:22pm On Aug 30, 2007

Take this scenario. He's well-meaning and hardworking - you have not met anybody go good-spirited. He just wants to be a loving husband and responsible father. So, you mean he'll have to 'recapitalize' before you can consider him otherwise 'no show' for him.
Romance / Re: No Finance, No Romance! by hobgoblin1(m): 1:58pm On Aug 30, 2007
This romance and finance thingy, sef.

The truth is, everybody has to bring something to the table. The man sets his criteria, so the woman too can set hers. However, there's always room for negotiation. We'll make some compromises wherever necessary.

You might have been gunning for a '36DD' but can settle for a '32B' considering other factors. Her mind might have been configured for a 'tear-rubber 2007 Camry' but she can come down for a 'tokunbo 1992 Accord' putting other things into consideration.

I believe, NO ROMANCE-NO FINANCE is too hypothetical and cant be addressed in isolation.

@naijatown
The anxiety is very understandable, even if your application looks 'picture perfect'. In your case, I believe look good to go.

Just pray for God's favour that I lenient, level-headed ECO goes through your documents. You'll also have to be patient. The wait could take up to 25- 30 working days, because of period you submitted.

Abeg, don't let some of those threads give you a heart attack. I was pretty scared reading them after making my submission. It was like reading your textbooks after completing your exams. Most of the time, it puts a wrong feeling in you.
Travel / Re: Visa Application Length! by hobgoblin1(m): 9:51am On Aug 24, 2007
I just wanted to gauge your application. A friend of mine (senior colleague) was recently denied on the basis of 'uncertainty of his returning and his intention to study' despite the fact that he was well established in Nigeria.

However, your case looks clearer than his, and I believe you shouldn't have any problem.

Finally, the school might suggest 50%, but there is nothing like paying higher (if u can afford it immediately), considering the fact of discounts and a stronger application.
Travel / Re: Visa Application Length! by hobgoblin1(m): 4:13pm On Aug 23, 2007
@naijatown

I want to believe it was an error on your part not to 'atleast' state your previous name and a doc showing that you actually changed your name.

To the best of my knowledge, the advantage of biometrics is more into the future than into the past. Let me explain. If biometric data has been gathered from you, your future applications can be monitored (e.g. if u claim to have changed your name, your identity can be verified), but this cannot work for your applications before the biometrics thingy.

I believe paying tuition in full would have helped your application very much. Its not a silver bullet, but it would have eased the scrutiny on your financial status.I personally believe, that if you'll have any problem it would be about verifying that you'll be returning to nigeria and that you actually want to study in the UK.

As regards ur uncle, he should have provided a letter stating in clear terms the nature of the relationship and the reason why he chooses to sponsor your studies.

Its a good thing you atleast submitted some pictures to back your claim.

All the best!

@D10
Try finding out form the school website for the best and easiest way to get to campus- is it better from Heathrow or Gatwick. Though, I'm surprised she doesn't want you to land in gatwick.

Even, if you take a night flight you'll be there by morning and still go through immigration.

After all said, if funding isn't an issue, I believe its better you do want mum says.

my program starts sept. 24 also.

Other than cash, you have the option of acquiring traveler's cheques. Its better in small denominations and make sure you have the serial numbers jotted down somewhere (in case they get stolen).

Hope you were able to collect your visa today. I collected all my docs today.

I was at the BDHC today for my interview. And my application was successful. I waited from 7am to 12:30pm before I was called in. I used the restroom FIVE times while waiting (the anxiety and the cold).

Nine of us were interviewed and seven were successful. One had problem with funding and the other had a forged bank statement (and it wasn't discovered until that day). The questions I was asked was just as described as nkenwanyi - including what I intend to do after the course and when do I want to do my NYSC.

I tried as much as possible to do a good job with the questions and the interview lasted about 8mins. I'm to collect my docs and passport on Monday.

Thank you everyone.

D10 it would be ok.

My interview is billed for tomorrow. However, I was called yesterday and asked for my sponsors contacts but I explained he was out of the country presently - I hope that wouldn't pose any problem. He later arrive yesterday night.

A friend of mine is also still in the waiting game - applied since July 16 - and waiting hopefully
