PoliticsMerger Talks Falter Over Choice Of Consensus Candidate by Hodaya(op): 9:37am On Jan 21, 2011
The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) last night met to further explore the possibility of uniting to challenge the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party. However, the sticking point remains the choice of the presidential flag bearer that will be presented as the consensus candidate in the forthcoming election.

Although, it was learnt that both parties had finally struck a deal after many months of speculation, it was still not clear who will be picked and on which platform he will contest.

Both the CPC and ACN have already chosen their candidates for the April 9 presidential contest, making it difficult for the two parties to agree on who should fly the joint ticket. While the CPC picked a former head of state, Muhammadu Buhari, the ACN settled for the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu.

Ongoing talks

Rotimi Fashakin, the spokesman of the CPC could not confirm if a signing ceremony will hold on Friday (today) as had been reported in some quarters. He merely said that both parties are still going on with the talks.

"The two parties are still talking but I cannot tell you anything more than that," he said in a telephone chat with NEXT last night.

Asked who will emerge the presidential candidate and running mate, Mr Fasahkin said he would prefer to speak after the deal has been sealed.

However, a source in the party said that the final papers guiding the alliance are ready but no date has been fixed to make the announcement.

"I cannot say if they will endorse it today," the source said yesterday.

At the Nuhu Ribadu presidential campaign office, a senior official, who asked not to be named, confirmed that talks were at an advanced stage.

The official however stated that the talks were less about determining a common presidential candidate for the two parties than on how to merge forces to beat the sitting People's Democratic Party (PDP) whch has been in power for the past 12 years. The official added that any possible merger would likely see Mr. Ribadu emerging as the preferred candidate.

"Discussions at any time did not veer in the direction of office allocation. There are on-going talks on how to house all progressives who are united around one social agenda starting from the political level, to economics, etc and to work together to take the PDP out of power. The belief is that all the parties that share this desire will at least quickly buy in and that is why the consultations are being done," our source said.

Another source at the campaign office talked about the general stance of progressives across the country.

"I was in a team that met with Buhari and what we basically told him is that he needs to give in to Ribadu. He is 70 years old and he cannot expect that he can do what he did at 40. It is only logical that he should let Ribadu take the lead," he said.

The two parties have only ten days until the deadline for submitting candidates as set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

While i agree that INEC should take responsibility for the whole poor process, we all can't deny the fact that the decay in our school system hasn't affected the quality of graduates that we produce yearly. Our graduates are poor with very low productivity and same with everything Nigeria right now,

If this project really need to work out well, the fee per car must be reduced to what people can comfortably afford i.e. consulting with people in that area before a fee is reached because both parties will eventually benefit from it,

PoliticsRe: What we did not know about Buhari by Hodaya(m): 2:07pm On Jan 20, 2011
If we all ever want to see PDP voted out this election, an alliance need to be formed between the two parties. Buhari's presidential aspirations seem will benefit more from such alliance than Ridabu's. It's difficult to be sure of anything right now because as days passes, the reality of this alliance seem to be fading away so as it is all i'll think is ACN & Ribadu.

When will Ribadu announce his running pls? After a second thought, i think him not having a running mate yet shows that negotiations are still on between ACN & CPC.

One step at a time, the roads might be rough but we now have less pot-holes on Lagos roads. The development is a gradual process and government is aware of that, we all also need to be patient with them. Plus the guys in-charge of road repair in Lagos are really doing well this days,
PoliticsRe: CPC And ACN To Join Forces- Deal May Be Signed Tomorrow ! by Hodaya(m): 2:00pm On Jan 20, 2011
Best news of 2011 so far.

They should also try to avoid making such mistakes PDP made when they came up with the idea of zoning. Reasonable, logical and realistic agreements must be made in clear terms to protect both party's interests because if not it'll only be a matter of time before we witness another case about zoning again and this might lead to the download of this alliance capable of making PDP taste their ever defeat in presidential elections in Nigeria,

Toaskarity:
which mentality ? Have you ever been to the north during any crisis or riot ? Do you know the next thing that will come out of that riot? I bet you its killing of the southerners especially the igbos(as they took them as their worst enemy). And let me tell you the only government solution that can minimize all this killing, rooting, destroying of property in naija is my ABOVE SOLTION. Anywhere maybe you wont understand this until u lost any of your siblings in those crisis.
NOTE:'my suggestion of nigeria might be wrong to you and be right to another'.
And please stop using 'enlightened' to cover 'fear'. So maybe yorubas are also more enlightened than germans(who fought the WW11)even though lost the war  but gain their governmental power in europe which they lost in WW1.
Compare the indications that led to WW11 to what is presently happening in Nigeria. Do you even know how far behind in years Nigeria is compared to developed nations? When did their government provide them with good roads, constant electricity, clean water supply etc. Pls consider this before you start comparing our present situation to that that led to WW11.

It's unfortunate that your comments seem to be fueled by vengeance.

Toaskarity:
so you dont percieve what is going to happen! You remember few weeks ago the IJAWS threat to embark in war if jonathan didnt win so now the northerners are creating the opportunity which the biafrans will use and reconcile with the niger delta force(imagine biafran soldiers of late 60s with the niger d militant of early 2000s)then face the north in which outside world will now support the south cos the govt power is at their hand 4 now. After the war maybe there wont be break up but a confederal system of govt and ThERE WILL NEVER BE A REGION,ETHNIC OR RELIGION CRISIS AGAIN IN THE NEW UNITED REGION OF NIGERIA >URN (new name).
The problem is that blood will flow and also the Yorubas ? Really confuse of whom to join in the fight cause they are always scared but wont have any other alternative than to join the people in power(GOODLUCK) as they did in late 60s.
The Yorubas been more of the enlightened of the three major tribes understand things better which reflect in their character. I acknowledge the courage of the Igbos but we all should come together to reason together and decide our future by not voting based on tribe or zoning but by proven competence of the individual aspirant and political party.

I'm a Nigerian from Ekiti state which shows i'm Yoruba. I see myself as a Nigerian before i consider myself been a Yoruba man, unfortunately most of us see otherwise and see ourselves as first either a Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo before been a Nigerian. We need to change this mentality that is destroying us.
PoliticsRe: Riot In The North Over Jonathan's Win by Hodaya(m): 9:35am On Jan 19, 2011
So PDP's in-house zoning controversy is now fast becoming a national crisis issue. This is definitely a plus for CPC and a merger with ACN might just help vote PDP out of power. Suddenly the north is falling out of the claws of PDP prompting their downfall a.k.a Nigeria's victory might just happen sooner than expected,

PoliticsRe: Unseating The Mighty Pdp by Hodaya(m): 1:47pm On Jan 18, 2011
The PDP primaries was only good for the eyes, sadly all bribing that allegedly occurred at the background aren't given a thought by Nigerians and investigations made to expose the truth.

Many years ago, the Lagos - Ibadan express way was really as express when my dad used to drive us while traveling. I drove on that road last year and almost wept, lamenting the state of the road and house these looters up there don't give a demn about us all unnecessarily risking our precious lives.

The truth isn't far off once we all start questioning the present and past government, unfortunately this is what most GEJ & PDP supporters are ignorant of. Another 4 years of PDP won't our lives for the better, it'll only change theirs.

Not surprised that a Nigerian University graduate can't operate a computer simply because we have Computer Science graduates who never trained with a PC while in school.

This is the reality of the decay in university system and INEC not owning up to their responsibility.

Vigilante:
@Hodaya -the fact that Ribadu the not arrest an innocent person does not mean he did not engage in selective prosecution
Ok then, compare your case for 'Ribadu's selective prosecution while at EFCC' to GEJ's recent dealings with Folarin and Gbenga Daniel in favour of his presidential campaign during the PDP primaries.

Not forgetting the claim for 'Ribadu's selective prosecution while at EFCC' is baseless.
PoliticsRe: Presidential Debate - Battle Of The Campaigners by Hodaya(m): 5:08pm On Jan 17, 2011
Kobojunkie:
I don't believe that to be the case. If anything Fashola has, overall, shown himself different from ACN and what it seems to represent. Same cannot be said of Goodluck Jonathan, I agree. But the I am trying to make is it is possible to vote into power only those individuals who have proven records of performance while rejecting parties and whatever it is they stand for. For instance, it is possible to vote Amaechi in Rivers but clean out the River stats assembly of all PDP affiliated members of house, especially all those who have nothing tangible to show. It is possible to vote back in a Fashola Government, but reject all other elements in the government that have helped progress the hold ACN has on the state. If anything, I think this a good way of sending a message to the parties that we are sick and tired of their shenanigans.
I don't know about you but i want the next 4 years of this country to be different from the past 12 years. And it'll remain thesame if PDP wins.
PoliticsRe: Unseating The Mighty Pdp by Hodaya(m): 4:48pm On Jan 17, 2011
To all calling Ribadu 'an Obj's stooge', here is a statement credited to Pat Utomi http://ribadu2011.com/?page_id=459

"While it is fashionable for some to accuse Ribadu of selective prosecution, none have been able to say that he arrested innocent people, No matter how far falsehood has travelled, it must eventually be overtaken by truth." - Pat Utomi

At the moment, wasn't Obj influential to GEJ's victory over Atiku in the PDP primaries, why is GEJ yet to be tagged 'an OBJ's stooge'? All GEJ's supporters need to critically evaluate him and it won't be hard to see all his dirty acts even at the primaries.

If he could help free a man accused of murder and ignore the chaos in Ogun state all to his benefit, don't you think if our needs don't benefit him he will do same?
PoliticsRe: Presidential Debate - Battle Of The Campaigners by Hodaya(m): 4:36pm On Jan 17, 2011
Let us carefully evaluate the performance of PDP in the past 12years in power. Have they been up to par, average or below. In 12years, i think they have offered all they have and their actions in the past is our present, their present will determine our future. If we are all satisfied with what they have done then we don't need to disrupt their present by voting them out BUT if we are not we can alter their present to change our future by voting PDP out of power.

GEJ is only as good as PDP and Fashola is only as good as ACN. I don't see individuals rather i see party, i won't be voting an individual rather we all will be voting a group of people in the name of a political party. So it is very important to consider the political party before the individual aspirant.
