Happy birthday to Gov. Olusegun Mimiko, the ONDO state Governor.

Biography

Olusegun Mimiko (Yoruba: Olúṣẹ́gun Mímikò; born 3 October 1954) is the current governor of Ondo State, Nigeria.

Dr. Olusegun Mimiko competed in the gubernatorial elections on April 14, 2007, against the incumbent Olusegun Agagu, and lost the contest according to the result released by the Independent Electoral Commission INEC. Mimiko contested this decision at the election tribunal. Agagu lost office on February 23, 2009 following an AppealCourt ruling which cited irregularities in the 2007 election, and was replaced by Mimiko as governor. Mimiko is currently the first and only member of the Labour Party to win gubernatorial office in Nigeria.[1]

Governor Olusegun Mimiko was said to have won the election on October 20, 2012, enabling him to continue in office for a second term, and making him the first governor in Ondo State to win a second term election. His victory was contested by the candidate of the ACN, Rotimi Akeredolu; the candidate of the PDP, Olusola Alexander Oke; and the candidate of the CPC, Olusoji Ehinlanwo.

In October 2012, Mimiko stood as the Labour Party candidate for Nigeria’s Ondo State and polled the highest votes in the elections. The Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko, on Thursday October 2, 2014 officially decamped to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) from the Labour Party. He and his supporters were received back to the fold by the Vice President, Namadi Samb; Senate President, David Mark; Deputy National Chairman, Uche Secondus; and top party men at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja.

The immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo state, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, has been declared the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary election in the state.
Eyitayo emerged the winner of the party’s primary by polling 760 votes to defeat the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the PDP in the 2012 governorship election, Hon. Saka Lawal.

Announcing the results of the primaries at the International Cultural and Event Centre (The Dome), Akure, on Monday, Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee for Ondo State and the Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, said Eyitayo won the party’s primary election by polling a total of 760 votes to defeat his main opponent Saka Lawal, who polled a total of 22 votes to take the second place.
The primary election, which started with the accreditation of voters, took off at exactly 8:00am and was duly monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and it attracted local and international observers, the press, security apparatuses in the State.

The voting commenced after all the delegates, who conducted themselves in an orderly manner, had been accredited, collation and the counting of votes followed immediately.
Saka, who addressed the delegates before the commencement of the voting, said he has taken a strong decision to remain in the mainstream of the party, he assured that all leaders and members who have left party for the opposition parties will return, adding that he will build on existing legacies of Governor Olusegun Mimiko if he is given the opportunity to fly the flag of PDP.

He stressed that he will remain committed to the progress of the party saying the party will emerge in the forthcoming governorship poll in the state “I want to assure you that Saka Lawal will not leave PDP.” He said.

Also speaking, Eyitayo Jegede promised he will focus on the economy if he emerges the party’s flagbearer as that is the only way out of the non-payment of workers’ salaries.

While announcing the results, Dickson, said that 713 delegates were accredited for the primaries from a total delegates’ list of 840, adding that there were no invalid votes. He commended the aspirants, delegates and other members of the party for their commitment to the unity of the party.

According to the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon Banji Okunomo, the accredited delegates include 3 Ad-hoc delegates per ward elected on the 18th of August in the 203 wards of the State in addition to the delegates that are “automatic” by virtue of the positions they occupy presently or in the past in compliance with the provisions of the PDP Constitution.

Jegede, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was born to the family of late Chief Johnson Bosede Jegede, the Odopetu of Isinkan, Akure, and Mrs Caroline Oluwatola Jegede (nee Asokeji) from Ipele town, in Owo Local Government Area.

He qualified as a lawyer in 1984 after the one year mandatory programme at the Nigeria Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The one year mandatory National Service saw him posted to the then Gongola State where he eventually started his law practice. He was a counsel with the law firm of Murtala Aminu & Co., Yola for 12 years and practised extensively in the northern part of Nigeria where he built an enviable legal practice with special interest in litigation, Commercial and Corporate law. In 1996, he established the Law firm Tayo Jegede & Co. with offices in Yola and Abuja.

He was appointed a Notary Public by the Chief Justice of Nigeria in 1992 and was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria on 16th December, 2008.
In 2009, Mr Eyitayo was appointed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice under the administration of the present governor of Ondo state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko where he served in the two terms of Governor Mimiko until July 22, 2016 when he resigned his appointment in order to pursue his governorship ambition.

Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), who is a member of the Council of Legal Education in Nigeria, served twice as the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association in Yola before coming to Akure to serve and a member of the 5-man implementation Committee that was saddled with the responsibility of establishing the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Adamawa State.

He has represented the state as a member of the Volleyball team at the intermediate level during the various National Sports Festivals at Kaduna in1977, Ibadan in 1979 where he won laurels for the State.

In his acceptance speech, Eyitayo commended the national leadership of the party and the electoral committee for transparency and fairness in the process.

Christianity EtcNo Drifting by Holadokun(op): 9:38am On Jun 28, 2016
"We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away" (Heb. 2:1). We have good reason to stay close. The author of Hebrews says that while the Mosaic law was reliable and needed to be obeyed, the message of the Son of God is far superior. Our salvation is  “so great” in Jesus that He shouldn’t be ignored (v. 3).

Drifting in our relationship with God is hardly noticeable at first; it happens gradually. However, spending time talking with Him in prayer and reading His Word, confessing our wrongs to Him, and interacting with other followers of Jesus can help us stay anchored in Him. As we connect with the Lord regularly, He will be faithful to sustain us, and we can avoid drifting away. - OBS

INSIGHT: The word translated “drift away” appears only once in the New Testament (Heb. 2:1). It means to flow from alongside, flow past, or slip away. It is used figuratively to illustrate the gradual giving up of one’s belief in the truth or a drifting away from belief. The writer of Hebrews uses this uncommon word to warn the Hebrews to pay careful attention to and not ignore the message and miracles of Jesus. They announce and confirm the salvation He brings.

Urgent Attention!

Here and there, Every corners of Oke-Oko ishawo, Agric. Ikorodu Lagos is the cry of Nigerians citizens living in this area.

All sorts of illegal activities going on in this area
√ Vandalization of Oil pipelines
√ Very crazy Act of Terrorism

Brief story of what I witnessed on Friday 17/07/15.

I was at Oke-Oko bus stop going to Agric bus stop for an assignment, then suddenly I saw a bike man been chased by some guys on bike putting on white shirt and white handkerchief on their head.

Initially I thought they were just two, but to my greatest surprise they are more than twenty, but male, female, old and young. Beating this bike man and that period some men of God (Muslims) were coming from Nasfat begging them but they refused

Not all but most of them were with dangerous weapons. Blocking the main road and they were about taking the old man they capture away.

After a short while I saw the army van coming with three soldiers inside, in a twinkle of an eye this set of people attacked the van, beating this three military men, capture the van and drove it away.

It was later I was told that this set of people are the ijaws.
Please I am calling on the Governor of Lagos State, to please take necessary steps handling this issue before it get out hand.

PoliticsRe: BREAKING NEWS: NANS Backs Jonathan’s Second Term by Holadokun(m): 8:48pm On Jan 13, 2015
ENDORSEMENT OF JONATHAN FOR 2nd TERM BY ONDO NANS: A Disgrace to the Student Movement.

The Democratic Socialist Movement Ondo State Chapter condemns in strong terms the recent endorsement of President Jonathan for 2nd term.

The recent endorsement of President Goodluck. Jonathan for 2nd term by the conglomeration of Officers of the National Association of Nigeria Students in Ondo state is another attestation to the ideological backwardness and intellectual mediocrity in which Nans has plunged into.

A recent press release from the National Vice President of Nans who happens to be a graduated student of Federal University of Technology Akure- Ayemoro Timileyin indicated that a meeting was held on January 11 2015, to endorse the candidacy of President Jonathan for 2nd term.

Their Decision, they claim is based on the numerous achievements that the President has made in the educational sector of the nation, in it was included scholarships to students, establishment of federal universities, You win, almajari school and the likes.

Also they also agreed to support him because according to them of "the unflinching support the President is enjoying from Gov Olusegun Mimiko.... The goodwill of Dr mimiko to Nigerian Students is enough as a yardstick for the Student Movement in Ondo State to support the Governor wherever he pitches his political tent"

While this is a toothless call, as none of these so called Student Leaders have enough integrity to convince any Student as they are all sell outs. The imaginary achievements of the President in which the Ondo Nans is basing its support on is a mere grandeur illusion.

In 2013, ASUU went on industrial strike with demands which included proper and adequate. Funding of Universities, it took about 6 months for the President to act. ASUP AND COASU were also on strike for over 10 months and till today, their demands have not been met. For 6 years, the President have consistently flouted calls to allocate 26% of its Budget to Education.

In several Federal Universities, there has been fee hikes, and some Schools have fought against it without the support of Nans, as they are known to be sell outs, and gradually the President is on his way to commercialize Education out of the grasp of the Poor.

What they mean by goodwill, simply involves the openness of the Governor to quick to donate money to their pockets. For example When the Presented an Award to Gov Mimiko on Jan 2 and in exchange got 1 million naira as thank you, and mobilization for the re-election of President Jonathan.

While Nans is free to to endorse a particular Candidate, however such sensitive issues cannot be decided among the Nans stake holders like they call themselves or the Nans pensioners. The Student Union Presidents of each institution should call a congress to hear the voice of the rank and file of Students on what they exactly want.

However, Ogunade Kayode Kdivine the President of AAUASU, has refuted to be part of any meeting where endorsements where made. We wonder where Ayemoro Timileyin Safety and his goons held their so-called 'extra ordinary' meeting and which Presidents was there.

However we advise that Democratic tenets should be used to make decisions especially where sensitive issues like this are been discussed, and also that Nans should go back to its ideological roots on which it was founded.

PoliticsBreaking News! Scores Killed As Explosion Rocks yobe School by Holadokun(op): 12:52pm On Nov 10, 2014
No fewer than 48 students were killed and 79
others seriously injured when a bomb exploded
at the Government Science School, Potiskum,
Yobe State on Monday.

Our correspondents gathered that the explosion
occurred at about 7.45am as the students were
queuing up for the normal morning assembly.
Eyewitnesses said bodies of the victims were
scattered around the assembly ground, while
both staff and students ran helter-skelter to rush
the wounded to the hospital.

Potiskum, the largest commercial town of the
state, was thrown into pandemonium as many
parents rushed to the school and other schools
in the town to pick their children back home.
All the schools in the town were desolate as the
pupils and teachers had fled.

Though no one has claimed responsibility for the
attack, the blast is believed to be the handiwork
of the Islamic fundamentalist group, Boko
Haram, which has been carrying out a reign of
terror in the North eastern part of the country.

A resident of the town, Ibrahim Ahmed, told
newsmen on the telephone, “We heard a loud
sound and since then, the area was condoned off
but ambulances have been going into the school
to pick corpses and take the injured to the
hospital. Potiskum has been in pandemonium
since 7.45am as a result of the attack on the
school.

“I can tell you all schools in the town have been
closed now as parents have gone to pick their
children. There is wailing everywhere especially
around the school where the incident happened.”
The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Markus
Danladi, who confirmed the incident, said he was
on his way to the scene of the incident and
promised to give details later.
