Of The Greatest AAUITE. this is your thread. Introduce yourselves, ask questions and comment on any about AAUA.. About AAUA The story of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, Nigeria, is more appropriately told in two phases. It was first established as Obafemi Awolowo University in March 1982 by the government of the old Ondo State, headed by the late Chief Adekunle Ajasin. The immediately succeeding military government of Navy Commodore Bamidele Otiko changed its name to Ondo State University in 1985. Its relocation to Akungba- Akoko in the new Ondo State became imperative in 1999, following the creation of a new State out of the old Ondo three years earlier in October 1996. The bill backing the relocation was signed into law by the then Governor of the State, Chief Adebayo Adefarati, in November 1999, and that prompted the movement of a crop of workers from the old site in Ado-Ekiti to Akungba- Akoko on 1 December 1999. The bill for yet another name change, this time to Adekunle Ajasin University, in order to immortalise the late Governor Ajasin, was signed into law by Governor Adefarati in 2004 following the demise of the former. The amended and subsisting statute of the University was signed into law in November 2007 by yet another governor, the former Governor Olusegun Agagu. In these circumstances, it can rightly be said that while the history of AAUA started in 1982, its relocation on 5 November 1999 marked the beginning of the second phase of its history now in its present location, Akungba-Akoko. At present, AAUA has a little over 10,000 students, 1,200 staff – academic and non- academic - and five Faculties – Arts, Education, Law, Science, and Social and Management Sciences. |

Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has declared a 3-day of fasting and Prayer in the state following the death of officials of the state in the Thursday morning ill-fated plane crash which had the body of the former Governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Agagu and 20 others on board. In a state broadcast yesterday evening, Dr Mimiko said the Associated Airline plane crash that happened on Thursday morning in Lagos has further thrown the state into sadness and mourning adding that certainly ”this is trying time in the history of our beloved state”. Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko He narrated that “a few weeks ago, when the news filtered in that our former governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu had passed on, we were shocked and completely devastated “in grief, we declared seven days of mourning and praying. We also set up a burial planning committee to work in conjunction with the family, with a view to giving our departed former Governor a befitting state burial. The committee which comprised top officials of our government and key family members left no stone unturned in giving the deceased a worthy burial. In line with the burial plans, we waited anxiously to receive the corpse in Akure, when we heard the sad news that the aircraft bearing his corpse with other top government officials, some eminent Nigerians and close family members had crash-landed in Lagos shortly after takeoff. It was shocking and very unsettling” Dr Mimiko said “ It is particularly saddening that not only did this turn of events alter our original plan for the burial, it also caused us additional losses with the death of four top officials of the State and some other Nigerians who were on board the aircraft. Stressing that the government commiserate with the bereaved families over the untimely death of their loved ones the Governor assured that the bereaved families are not alone in this moment of grief and gloom. Consequently, he said, ”we have declared 3 Days of fasting and prayers in the state, commencing , Saturday 5th of October, 2013.” He thus asked all the people of the state, to use the opportunity to pray and reflect on the sad realities of the death of the departed and also find time to ask God for mercy and favour for the State. In an emotional laden voice, Dr Mimiko voiced that “we surely, never bargained for this. Yet, all power and knowledge belongs to God as human wisdom and knowledge is foolishness before God” He thus prayed that “ the souls of our fallen brothers and sisters rest in perfect peace even as we pray for God’s protection and guidance of our people in the State and in the Diaspora” source. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/10/mimiko-declares-3-days-fasting-prayer/ |

Just how much do our legislators actually earn? It has been a question that has occupied the imagination of a lot of Nigerians, because the figures have never been publicly known. In spite of the public outcry, repeated calls by leading civil society organisations, the use of the Freedom of Information Act, and even a court ruling, the dirt on our lawmakers was never made public. Not anymore it seems. Following a report in the Economist, a UK based magazine, which said that Nigeria’s legislators were the highest paid in the world, the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) finally released details of the legitimate salaries and allowances the National Assembly. [READ: Giants of the world: Our lawmakers earn 116 times more than the average Nigerian ] In a public notice signed by Usman Garndawa, acting Secretary of the RMAFC, the report was published “to avoid misinformation and misrepresentation of facts.” The Acting Secretary in an apparent attempt at explaining the numbers, said that “regular allowances are paid regularly with basic salaries while non- regular allowances are paid as at when due. For instance, furniture allowance and severance gratuity are paid once in every tenure and vehicle allowance which is optional is a loan which the beneficiary has to pay before the end of tenure. It is therefore wrong and misleading to add up allowances irrespective of whether they are regular, refundable or non-regular as the regular annual emoluments of political public office holders.” The RMAFC also said that it was not responsible for the payment of any other allowance. “The commission also wishes to use this opportunity to state that any other allowance(s) enjoyed by any political, public office holders outside those provided in the Remuneration Act of 2008 is not known to the commission and the chief accounting officer should be held accountable.” Here are the official RMAFC figures.
