A businessman has dragged a lottery brand, Green Lotto, and its agent, Charles Akhenanen to court.

The company was dragged before the Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square over its refusal to pay a businessman his winning sum of N72,700,000.

Green Lotto is organised by a company, Brentwood Multiservices Global Limited based in Ikorodu, Lagos.


The complainant, who testified before Justice Modupe Nicol-Clay, on Thursday, told the court that on January 29, 2021, he played a game with N330,000 and when the result came out, he won the game, but the defendants refused to pay him the winning sum.

He said apart from Green Lotto, he also played another game with Premier Lotto with the sum of N200,000 on the same day and he won N48m, which he went to Ojuelegba, Surulere, to claim.

The witness, who was led in evidence in chief by the state prosecuting counsel, Mrs Titilayo Olanrewaju-Daudu, said after collecting the money he won at Premier Lotto, he went to Green Lotto the next day to claim the N72,700,000 he won, but the firm refused to pay him.

He said, “When I got there on Tuesday to claim the money, they said their system developed a fault and the result had wiped out.

“I asked Charles, was it after the game declared the winner the machine developed a fault or before, but the defendant chased me out and I had no option than to report to the police.

“Before I played that game on January 29, I had earlier played on January 26 with N50,000 or N60,000 and I lost. That isn’t my first time of playing the game with them. Sometimes I win and other times, I lose.


“So, I asked Charles that the day I played N500,000 and N1m and I didn’t win, the machine did not develop a fault, but now that I won, the machine is no longer working.”

While being cross-examined by the defence counsel, Adedotun Moses, the witness said he had been playing games for over 30 years.

“I reported the matter at Area B, Apapa; they invited him, but he did not honour the invitation. So, Area B wrote to the lottery board and they had a series of meetings; they were asked to pay me.

“They offered me N10m and I rejected it. Then, we went to the Abuja national board and they offered me N13m, but I rejected it. Then, they went to Zone 2 and pleaded that they would pay me N20m; I also refused, before the matter was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice,” he added.

When asked if he had won from Green Lotto before, he said, “Yes, I won in 2019; I won over N40m and they paid me.”

The agent and Green Lotto were brought to court on June 6, 2022, over alleged stealing of N72,700,000.

They are facing three counts of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretences and stealing, charges preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.

During the arraignment, the state prosecuting counsel, Olanrewaju-Daudu, said the incident happened at 66, Agbo-Malu, Marina, Apapa.

The prosecutor said on the same day, the defendants obtained the sum of N330,000 from the complainant on the pretence that he would be paid the winning money from the lottery but failed to do so.

According to the prosecutor, the offences are contrary to sections 411, 314 (1) (3) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Justice Nicol-Clay adjourned further hearing of the case till November 21.

Depends on your definition of a 'self-defence weapon'. I know that the private use of a gun is illegal unless you are a force man or in special cases can be gotten through a licence but it is very rare. Aside from this, other sophisticated military weapons, whatsoever you use in a matter of self-defence and can be proven before a court of law, might be deemed as legal. Even the use of a gun....what matters most is who you are.

I still don't understand why some people kept saying no one died at the Lekki toll gate incident, some unfortunate fellows were even asking for the pictures of the dead people!!! Like seriously?
Even the Governor of Lagos State confirmed the incident, I mean, the number one in the state and some keyboard warriors will just be spitting out rubbish just because of their political affliate.

One thing we should remember is that, the incident was not politically motivated but bore out FIRST because of the high handness of the Nigeria Police and what have you, while other issues follows....
Let us not allow our political affliate to blind us. We're all one. And I hope justice will play out at the end for the victims and their families.

I understand the trauma that people who witnessed those shootings that evening went through.

However, this is not the first time the Nigerian state is killing its own people. The only difference is that this happened in Lagos, the home to most exposed Nigerians and the state has all the mainstream media houses.

The military has been killing people in Abia, Onitsha and Imo, has wiped out almost an entire village in Odi and Zaki Biam, killed lots of people in Zaria, and nobody was questioned for these atrocities.

Young people, the best way to change this country is through the ballot. Nigeria is a British experiment that is not worth dying for. If you die for this country as it is today, you and your family are the losers.

On Friday, October 14, 2022, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) Enugu Zonal Command detained twelve (12) bankers on suspicion of insider fraud.

The suspects were identified as Odeniyi Anthony, Deki Kingsley Onyekachi, Oguchukwu Ene, Elendu Chizaram, Anyakora Uchenna, Onah Kingsley, Akwe Elizabeth, and Chinenye Grace Acibe in a statement made by the EFCC.

Others include Udeze Harrison, Etoh Lawrence Uzochukwu, Victoria Ezedie, and Chidi-Ukah Obinna.

The accused allegedly stole money from several dormant accounts at an Enugu branch of an older bank, according to the EFCC’s early investigations.
