Forget primary and secondary terms, use sponsor and co-sponsor.

Ok, lets use my App as a case study;
When i applied, i declared on my App that my father's friend will be my primary sponsor i.e he is fully responsible for my upkeep in Canada while my mum will be my co-sponsor.

I dont know why peeps get the impression that u cant use a non family sponsor for ur App. To show proof that he was credible i submitted photos we took during my convocation, ceremonies and a very touching reference letter. Datz all!

To cut the story short, it took only 7-8wks to get my TRV approved not even 9wks. If u have a credible sponsor and u have proof (pics are good enough), u have nothing to worry about.

I have been cooking up a plan that involves 2 sponsors and I would like to tap into the experience of folks here to know if the plan would fly.

My Dad is the Primary sponsor and he is capable of sponsoring me throughout my stay. He has paid the school fees (resumption is January) and his SOA is above 10M (I don't know the exact amount and the closing balance and it is fixed deposit). I also hope to throw in some share certificates in there. The trouble I have is that he is retired and he is not working so he doesn't have a proof of current employment and he doesn't own any business.

Consequently, I decided to approach my inlaw (my sister's father in-law). He owns a business and he gave me his SOA (which closes at 5.5M. I noticed it was pretty high before. I mean 50M kind of high). I would not want to bother him(because we are not that close) with things like proof of ownership of business, tax clearance certificates, proof of how he is related to me etc. So I decided he would be my secondary sponsor (I don't know if such a term exists or applies to visa applications) because I assume that as secondary sponsor, you do not need to submit much documents. Just a declaration should suffice.

So good people of obodo Nairaland, I crave your indulgence to ask some questions:

1) Would using a co-sponsor make the application more complicated (as it may raise doubts about my Dad's true ability to sponsor me) or would it re-enforce my application (cos it shows access to more funds and more people are willing to support)?

2) Would using a co-sponsor increase the time of processing application?

3) Is there anything like secondary and primary sponsor (I heard it somewhere. Not just sure).

4) Should I just drop the co-sponsor ish and stick with my dad? Why?

5) Am I crazy

1) no, adding a co-sponpor wouldn't complicate ur App and Yes, it will help ur App cuz ur co-sponsor has a stable source of income.
Note: ur Co-sponsor should write a fascinating reference letter as to y he his sponsoring u. He should also include all dependants and assets in the letter.

2) using a co-sponsor can even make ur App move faster. The processing wouldnt change.

3) yes, u can use as many sponsors as u want, just make sure dey r credible.

4)No, do not even think of dropping ur co-sponsor.

5) no, u aint crazy at all.

Ur post grad work permit will be issue upon completion of ur grad program in Canada if u r r eligible and u apply. And for a yr Masters u will be entitled to a year work permit while 2 yrs = 3 yrs work permit.

U will be able to work for 20hrs a week and full time on breaks as a student with a valid study permit. U can check "http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad.asp" for further clarification.

Jaydenehis: My CGPA from my under grad is very poor,2.17 and although I was accepted in d uk for my masters because I did well in law school and had good work experience,i'm told all that doesn't count in canada as the undergrad is the most important which means there was no point doing my LLM and so the best I can get is a PGD to start afresh which is what I want to do with a diploma or PGD.

Just before u make the decision of going for a second Masters and paying the $95-$100 application fees while considering ur undagrad CGPA. U must understand that Canadian Universities have minimum requirements which is usually 2.1 or 1st class, rarely 2.2 for Nigerian schools but i wouldnt know if law school counts (work experience counts but not as academics). But u did Masters in UK, u should be able to apply for a 2nd Masters or PHD irrespective of ur Undergrad results (not 100% sure).
My advice, contact each academic unit u r interested in before thinking of applying for a 2nd Masters or PHD.

I think if ur tracking no has GHAN in it then its being processed in GHANA while if it has CALA then ur App is being processed in Lagos. Not so sure about the latter.

For me, i dont think it matters if u send emails to Lag or Accra since they work hand in hand. When i applied via paper i had issues tracking so i sent "lagos@international.gc.ca" an email and after 4 working days ACCRAIMMIGRATION@international.gc.ca replied me. So i think u can actually send emails to either offices, Lagos or Accra. for both paper and online.

oghos2k: I applied on the 6ths of August via online route and i've not heard anything yet..
Will it be cool to email and ask status update on my application?

There is really no harm in asking. Worst case response is "be assured ur app is still in queue for review". Blah blah bla ....... When are u resuming? Since its also online u can make enquiries via the lagos visa office by email "lagos@international.gc.ca".

Note: the average processing time in lag is 21wks while Ghana is 9wks. Dont b disapointd if they say they are still processing ur App.

Sharply send an email to "ACCRAIMMIGRATION@international.gc.ca" requesting an update on ur App. A friend of mine did that 2weeks ago though he applied july 18 and was replied with medics in just 3days. Include all ur info on the email. All the best.

My admission letter from d university where I also applied to was sent to my box just now and it is for PGD human resource management but the start date is May 5th. I don't know if I should take the risk with the diploma in business administration that starts in January then God forbid any problems, the PGD can then be used to reapply or do I just pay the $9kCAD required by this uni and apply with the PGD? Please I really need your honest opinions, God bless you all

Ur chances are higher with the PGD if u declare to cic that u hold a Master's degree. If decide to go for the diploma after declaring u have Masters then ur chances are slim (u will need to do alot of convincing). If ur PGD is starting May, u can apply before the end of this year provided u have all required docs ready. They can grant u Visa 3 months before your start date.

My app was approved 2weeks ago and az bin dispatched since lastweek monday. No mail or SMS to show that my app as arrived Lagos, so i decided to travel down to lagos today and check if it as arrived lagos, but on getting to VFS office today, the attendant told me that when my app arrived that they would send me an SMS to notify me and more so, they are expecting some packages to arrive later during week. I just pray mine will be among.

Thats kinda weird. They never sent any sms or email to me though but i paid for it when i applied. I just stormed their office a day after i received notification that my processed passport has been dispatched to VAC and in just 30secs upon arrival at their office i was on my way out with my package. Send vfs "info.cannig@vfshelpline.com" an email this morning, they respond on time just to know what is going on.

It actually depends on ur negotiation skills. U can get it for 3k (min). But to be on a safe side hold 5k(max). Shine ur eyes oh, doze guyz aint smiling.

I would advice u not to waste time and act quickly. If u have doubts pls read the instructions on how to apply for a study permit on the cic website. That way u would confirm directly from the source if it is a scam or not. U still have time to reapply (if jan admission), just act fast and accordingly.

stayboy1602: Hello my name's tino, I used an agent in applying for my study permit he told me he applied july 17 for my visa through the online route, through vfs, and in august 14 vfs sent a mail asking for a august bank statement of 10, 000 dollar in my sponsor account which my dad deposited and printed it out so i scan i sent too my agent and he sent back too them after 4days, and till now I have not heard anything from them, on Wednesday would make it 2 months, and when I asked my agent for tracking number he gave me a 10 digit no, strartinng with S.....when I try checking I couldn't found a way too, I was only seeing that the tracking number has too consist of 20 character then I asked him then he told me it's an online application that, i can check that thats jthe application no, please nairaland is there anything wrong , were did I go wrong, or is my agent deceiving me am confused cause I have paid complete tuition feel too my school , why haven't dey call me for medical yet t

I am afraid this agent might be a fraud.
It is impossible to apply tru online and vfs at the same time. U cant be asked to deposit money to ur account or anybodies while ur application is still being processed. Ur tracking no must be 20 characters long. It must look like " 20140*****STU02556 "
Please, try to get hold of this agent and inform the police about this. Hopefully, u might get a percentage of what u have paid.

I don't know if I can get my uncle who has an engineering company to state that I have a job offer with his company (maybe human resource manager) and state the expected date of my return. I also intend to add a letter signed by my mum like earlier suggested that i'm to work with her once she retires from govt job in 2years time(there is a letter from d govt stating her date of retirement) or I can even just tell her to say i'm to take over as ceo on arrival but d business ain't a big one so don't know if they will ask for bank statements and all. I would advice u pick the option that would be more lucrative. Dont forget to show proof of any option u pick. In fact the letter must state y u are their main asset.

Asset are not really home ties but belongs to the class of financial and personal assets. families jobs etc belongs to home ties, so as ur relationships in Canny serves as ur foreign ties, according to me oooo add any documents that will add value to your application, if the landed docs are in ur name regardless of the survey just add it, it shows that u get money.

Yes, family biz serves as home ties but properties can also serve as ties. I read about a kenyan who sold his 3 bedroom flat apartment cuz he wanted to visit his bro in America. When askd how he got the money for travel he told the VO dat it was from his sold apartment, he was swiftly denied under "home ties". The truth is this guyz "VO's" know how we think; asides family they know ur properties at home can bring u back. So for me, i will advice peeps to submit investment docs such as building docs, solid investments(not bank money)...... cus really, lets face facts; it can never be bad for ones App.

Ok, i wouldn't advice u put unemployed as current activity cuz it might send a wrong signal. U can put studying, company name-preparing for ICAN in Nov, or sales man, aprentice training-electrician, trader, teacher. e.t.c. They know u just completed NYSC so dey might b lenient on ur employment situation. I was in ur shoes some months back, i put maths tutor for current activity. Company name - after school home lessons with no prove. And i was still granted visa. Sha dont emphasize too much on ur current activity on ur SOP. I made no mention of it.

1) can i add a land document that i told my dad to just put in my name, though it was back dated to last year when he actually got the land, but the survey is not in my name,itz still in the name of the person that my dad got the land from, can i only put the letter of Agreement or is d name letter of Transfer sef.. {NB; Am a twin and the 4th out of 5 children and my mum is late]

2)i completed my NYSC March 2014, i got a job which was just from march -April, so i was unemployed till july 14 .....Am actually working now but i resumed on 14th july 2014 and i dont even want them to know at work that i will be travelling, ..but the issue is that can i put it in my application that am presently working? because i dont want my employer to know am travelling which means i cant even get a leave letter or otherwise i should not state that am working now....

1) if u have a written doc that says the land belongs to u i.e the land purchase receipt is in ur name or the deed of agreement. Then u have urself a home tie. Note; dont add survey plan that isn't in ur name oh. Land receipt and deed of agreement is very ok.

I dont understand y u mentiond dat u r 4 out 5 children; is it that the land is to be shared among u and ur siblings?

If ur uncle is sponsoring u and he has enough funds for u and his family then dont disturb ursef. Or his he also sponsorin ur siblings?

2) dont add that job on ur app. It might have a negative impact since u aint going for study leave. Sorry about ur mum, u can attach all props docs ur dad has as home ties and family photos. Write a convincing SOP. Fast and Pray.

Please do you know if they do call employers?i am thinking of drafting a letter stating that my study leave has been approved so I don't announce myself before time. I dont think drafting a letter for urself is a good idea. They can call to confirm ur study leave. Which would lead to fraud! ( if caught u might face charges and banned from canny for some yrs). There is always an alternative. Be patient, ask the opinion of odas concerning this.

Going for a PGD makes more sense than ordinary diploma since u already hold a Masters degree. It all depends on u. U will have to weigh all ur options and take the risk that most suite u ( since money is involved).

As for my reason for choosing canada,can I say I believe in getting knowledge from advanced countries to help in our developing country hence the reason for choosing uk for my masters degree? Please I will appreciate if you can chip in suggestions,please. Can I use our receipt booklet and tenancy agreement as proof?

Can I exclude my two brothers who just graduated from my family list and put only the names of the two who just completed their masters in the uk and returned this year or put the name of the last two who just finished their Ug program and exclude d other two?Also, will it be better to use paper application instead of online so I can put all d documents like building plan and all as proof because I have over 102 pages of documents scanned in my box. I dont think the VO will buy the idea of give me visa first then i will show u study leave!
I havent had such experience so i dont know how to advice on that. Am sure some peeps here have gone thru such experience concerning study leave, hopefully they r around and might just help out on that one.
Concerning choosing Canada. Tell them about ur newly developed passion for business and how the diploma will open u to an unspeakable level in business admin. U shuld make some research and find out what our local schools lack that Canada has. Add passion and just dont say i want the advanced country experience. Tell them the amount of jobs waiting for u in Nigeria wen u r done with ur program. As in, literally list the managerial jobs in business admin(aim high). Write ur SOP and am absolutely sure peeps on here will look into it. Note; dont paste ur SOP as a normal msg( to avoid plagiarism)
As per dependants, if ur siblings are minors i.e below 18yrs, i am afraid u wont be able to say they aint dependants. If above 21yrs then, u can say some are self employed while some are in their 3 and 4yr of school(no need to remove any name if u dont want to) or employed. Dont worry about the dependants too much, it is whateva ur dad says his children are doing they will know. At least thatz what i did.
Go for paper route cuz that way the authenticity of ur docs wouldnt be questioned.

I want to switch to business ( I'm assuming you are the VO) because since I joined the organization where I work, I have been in the human resource department and developed interest in the business field. I'm presently among the top people (2nd in command)in my unit and believe I need the knowledge which I can get to help me perform better and also increase my chances of getting promoted.

I intend going with my family because my baby is too young and in as much as I will like to get the knowledge,I also do not want him to lack full parental care which I know with my husband on ground to help,will be easy

For strong ties,please can you suggest what I need to add? Let me just write something so you can tell me if it is ok: I have a good job which I love(been working over 4years) and do not intend leaving the job any time soon. I have previously done a masters degree course in the uk and returned as soon as my course was completed. I have visited the uk several times after my graduation even after getting my job for vacations and returned back to Nigeria. I also have past and a present us visa which is still valid, visited several times and returned home plus my husband and I have properties with houses on them, we live in one and have some apartments rented out to people.Also, I'm from a close knitted family,my brothers and parents are in Nigeria and we are all based in Nigeria. I'm also to take over my mum's business after her retirement(she works for the government but has a business and I work there part time during the weekend )I intend including the documents from cac and the registration documents

As @dgreat11 said people on this thread usually advice the sole applicant to go first before bringing in their family members. Although, i have only heard of one case where a sole applicant took his mum along with him while he went for his studies in canny but everybody has a story. You have partially convinced me but u can do better.

1) from ur post, u r going for the PGD in business admin then latter change to nursing upon arrival. It a good idea cuz u have work experience and evidence that will can convince the VO.
2) u must be able to state y u cant study Business admin in Nigeria. U havent convinced me.
3) are u on a study leave? If not wat r u coming back to Nigeria with ur business admin knowledge to do. As in, is ther any job waiting for u.U havent convinced me.
4)u have personal assets which is great. But hope ur brothers aint dependants of ur Dad otherwise it will affect ur App. As in, r u the only one ur Dad is sponsoring? Anyways, the letter of sponsorship will cover that.
5) ur mum can write a letter stating u as the new CEO of her business when u arrive. It will help u. Include all necesary docs to back up this claim.
6)state clearly what u just explain to dgreat11 as per child bearing and challenges u faced in the past on ur SOP. It convinced me.
7) for strong ties, u can submit family photos, car docs, landed prop, estates docs, rental props, tenantmnt agremnts, C.OF.O.e.t.c As many as u can lay ur hands on that r either urs or ur husbands.

The truth is ur SOP, letter of sponsorship and the letter from ur mum can help u drastically. Make them explicit, unique and truthful.

The open work permit for applicants isnt just there for fashion. If ur intentions are truly genuine i bliv u r go to go.

Make sure there are evidence for every thing u state.

Pls, answer the questions i wasnt convinced about.

I am about to submit my visa application but I have some issues bothering me; I got admission to do a diploma program in business in alberta and I have paid the $1500cad deposit as required by the school. All my documents are ready:
1. Sponsor's letter on his letter headed paper(my dad is a top government official at the highest level of his career)
2. Sponsor's affidavit of sponsorship
3. Sponsor's data page
4. Bank statement from two banks showing good activity on the account but total closing balance of 10 million Naira
5. Fixed deposit of 13 million Naira
6. He stated that he is responsible for all my expenses and that of my husband and baby( he included that he wants them to accompany me because my baby is just 7 months old and so my husband is to assist me to ensure the child doesn't lack parental love and care)

I on my own part included;
1. Appointment letter from where I work
2. My bank statement balance 1.7m but activity for the 6 months was up to 5million Naira
3. Data pages and pages showing previous visas to uk and us
4. Academic certificate including master's degree in law from uk
5. Birth cert
6.marriage cert
7. Family photographs including the one taken with my dad
8. My landed prop deed of agreement and survey( bought in my name by my mum over 20years ago)

My husband included:
1. Data page
2. Uk visa page
3. Land papers(deed of agreement and letter from seller which he used to get the letter from our traditional ruler years ago)

Please we are confused on whether to declare that my husband has a government job because we do not want the office to be aware of our plans yet and so cannot get letter of leave of absence from them yet. Also, I was told I can't get the visa with a diploma since I already have a masters degree(said it is suspicious). I have an offer from a university offering PGD but will have to pay $9000cAD before I can get the letter for my visa admission and once paid I can only get 50% back except ones visa is denied and the truth is I prefer the school at alberta because I actually want to go for nursing on arrival.
Can I state that my husband is a librarian at a school instead of stating his real job because I will be able to get a letter permitting him to go for leave of absence this way.

Lets assume i am the VO. I would appreciate it if u answer my following questions.

1) why switch career now and y nursing?

2) what is wrong with the nursing school in ur country of residence (Nigeria). Y not study in Nigeria?

3)what have u done in the past (with evidence) that relates to nursing?

4) Now that all ur family is following to canada, what would bring u back(u can sell ur assets from canada) to Nigeria.

Yes, going for a lesser degree after Masters aint a good idea but there are exceptions and in other to be exceptional u must cover all loop holes.

Technically, u obviously have funds which means ur immediate family can accompany you. Pls answer the above questions, then, we can move on from there.

A friend of mine invited me over to Canada. The date is supposed to last 15Agust - 22September 2014. I applied for the visa 21July 2014. I was informed that the processing if the Visa will take 30 - 40 working days. And now, the 40 working days has expired I neither heard from them nor got my Visa. The question now is why the delay? ........am confused!

Send them an email. Pls, dont forget to include all ur info on the email. Since the processing time has passed they will respond, hopefully.
Send email to lagos@international.gc.ca, if ur passport is being processed in lagos and
ACCRAIMMIGRATION@international.gc.ca, if processed in Ghana.
