The People of Damboa Escaped While Boko Haram exchanged Fire With Soldiers

Reports indicate that Damboa, the headquarters of a local government in Borno state, is under the attack of Boko Haram terrorists.

Residents said the terrorists came in large numbers around 6:30 am on Wednesday, March 4, and started shooting again and again.

One local resident said that for more than an hour, soldiers from the 25th Battalion in Damboa were exchanging fire with terrorists.

“They came in a lot in hilux cars. We saw about 20 of them before we started fleeing into the bush, ”said one of the local residents.

“They come in two groups. One came north of Sambisa and the other by Alagaruno.

“The soldiers from the 25th Battalion have come in about 30 minutes and still, over an hour, exchanging fire with terrorists.

The attack comes a day after terrorists attacked Bwalakila, a nearby village in Chibok Local Government Area.

Nature holds a variety of animals, the human mind is yet to comprehend. One of such is the coconut crab. Powerful enough to rip open a coconut, climb trees, break the bones of birds and feed on its flesh.



The coconut crab is one of nature’s gigantic aquatic and terrestrial species. It is a specie of the terrestrial hermit crab also referred to as robber crab or palm thief. This gigantic crab live on both water and land, they mostly spend more time on land than in the sea, it is the largest land-living arthropod in the world.

The crab posses large clamps strong enough to snap the bones of any attacker it gets hold of. According to research, the coconut crab pincers are some of the world’s most powerful and most dangerous weapon in the animal kingdom. The grip of the claws is likened to that of a bite from a lion’s jaws.

As the name connotes, coconut crabs feed mainly on coconuts, hence why they climb trees so they can reach coconuts. The crabs can climb almost anything, that can be climbed. The pincers it posses enable it to be able to grab hold of anything for hours – be it branches of a tree, walls of a home or the chains within a fence. The process at which they open up coconuts is unnerving, as they can tear a coconut apart with just their bare claws.

Although, coconuts aren’t the only food the gigantic specie is said to feed on. Reports have shown that the coconut crab feeds off on the flesh of other creatures. The crab has been known to hunt and kill birds, attack and eat live pigs. The crab would climb to the top of trees, to attack birds and drag them to underground burrows where it digs as its dwelling place.

The Nigerian government has warned of a “strange epidemic” which has left 15 people dead and infected dozens more in less than a week.

The outbreak of the mysterious disease, which causes vomiting, swelling and diarrhoea, was first recorded late last month in Benue State, southeast of the capital Abuja.

By 3 February, “the number of persons affected with the strange endemic has risen to 104”, said Nigerian senator Abba Moro, according to newspaper theDaily Post.

In a Senate resolution, Mr Moro, who represents a district in Benue State, named a number of victims of the disease, who all allegedly died within 48 hours of contracting the illness.

The resolution urged the country’s health ministry to dispatch experts to the centre of the outbreak to find out more about the disease.

It also called for the Nigeria Centres for Disease Control (NCDC) to establish surveillance measures to contain its spread, thePostreported.

Osagie Ehanire, the health minister, said in a briefing on Friday the illness did not appear to be Ebola or Lassa fever – two potentially fatal viruses which occur in West Africa.

Nor did it appear to be the 2019 novel coronavirus, which originated in Wuhan China and has so far killed more than 700 people.
