WHY ARE WE DOING THIS NOW? -By Ben Bruce Let us remind ourselves the reason for this showdown. It is not about subsidy, I keep repeating this fact. It is about the following indices that make our government big, wasteful and ineffective: Big and overblown governments at all levels 70 Ministers Over twenty Special advisers (on what?) Every minister is entitled to 4 Special Assistants. Senate President earns 88 Million Naira monthly. His Deputy Earns 55 Million Naira monthly. Senators take home 14 Million Naira monthly. It takes 1.4 Billion naira to maintain the NASS annually (Remember what Sanusi said about 25% of our GDP is used to feed people who only sit Tuesday – Thursday). Our Governors exhibit such level of opulence shunned by the richest nations in the world Our 2012 budget has a deficit component to it. We are supposed to borrow about 1.6 TRILLION NAIRA. NASS will be paid from that! Aso Rock will use 1 Billion of it to eat! Aso Rock will use another 1 Billion to fuel generators. The Vice President will use 58 Million Naira to buy newspapers. The office of Patience Jonathan will use 500 Million to speak bad English to you. We will spend close to 500 Billion on International Travels. In 2012, some state governors will collect 100 Million as security votes MONTHLY. They will continue to enjoy immunity clause! Your hospitals will have no drugs. Your schools will still have no quality to train a world class scholar Your roads will still be death traps. You will still be a local government unto yourself, providing water, security, power and social security! You will still pay more for petroleum products. You will pay toll in 2012 on federal interstate roads. If you will like this to continue in 2012, then stay at home and enjoy power as provided by PHCN! |
my own response to your questions. P.S i do not support anyone so please no bashing. a) Demand has risen drastically in recent times. Even at 100% capacity, our 3 refineries can not satisfy our demand. b) Since locally refined fuel can not meet demand, they have to sell at a rate that will not hinder people from importing. If they sale way lower than international rates, marketers will not import. By the time we are able to build enough refineries to meet demand, marketers will not need to import, they will simply buy from our local refineries. This is why NNPC has to "fix" prices in order not to hinder importation and thus return us to long queues. Please oo, i do not support anyone. This is just my understanding of the situation. No need for unnecessary abuses.
a) demand by who? from where? did you buy 10 cars or what? i don't get it, where did the demand come from? a 500% increase in less than 10 months? b) relate back to the answer in a. so please your response is not it at all, better just jump over and let those who think they have answers to these questions answer it. |

The Seun Kuti man asked some good questions a) At what rate are our local refineries really working? I heard some days ago from Jonathan Goodlucks own mouth that all 3 are running at ~90%. However,Nigeria is still importing about the same amount, even more, as it did back when the reports had the refining rate at 30%? b) Also, Why is locally refined fuel selling at the same rate as imported fuel? whitehawk:sorry to ask, but how can the subsidy fund that is yet to be passed into law be shared among the 3 ties of government? by the way, i thought the three ties of government are the executives, legislators and the judiciaries? which tiers are you talking about? lastly, we still operate the 2011 budget not until march 2012, so which money are they sharing? subsidy was in the 2011 budget so how come they removed it now even though we are still running the 2011 budget? |

i am typing right now without light, total power we had today is less than 2 hours. i had to buy fuel at 160 naira per liter to fuel my gen. been angry all through today, even my brothers are afraid to talk to me. |
i give him 14 days to rescind his decision, it's just a matter of time before he falls back like he's known to be. there's nothing he can do about this one because the masses want this to be returned to what we know and he has nothing to do about it but to return what we want. after that we shall all sit down and talk about what to do later if truly we need to remove the "invisible" subsidy or not. right now, people are not just about the subsidy alone, other things are on the table: bring the cabal to books, tell us why we buy the locally refined oil same price with what we import. how many imported refined oil do the citizens actually consume. all these questions must be answered by him. we are no longer docile, most of us are now very interested in how our money is being spent by these crooks (gej included) |
CarlosVent:who cares about the east? we know they are politically dead there so who cares? even in delta state, there was protest so who cares what happens in that part of nigeria? is kaduna not a pdp state? is gombe also not a pdp state? what about the fct? what about benue? you can keep typing shitz, it's a free world but you can't hide the truth! |

http://www.punchng.com/news/arrest-fraudsters-in-oil-industry-okonkwo-tells-jonathan/ Arrest fraudsters in oil industry, Okonkwo tells Jonathan January 7, 2012 3 Comments The Presiding Bishop, The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, Dr. Mike Okonkwo, has urged the Federal Government to arrest the people who are instrumental to or culpable in the alleged rot in the petroleum industry. Okonkwo, in a statement on Thursday, said the government should make the culprits refund their loot. He stated that the FG should use the proceeds to rehabilitate refineries and provide other infrastructure, rather than burdening Nigerians through subsidy removal. He urged Jonathan to provide infrastructure and make the refineries functional. According to him, it will be difficult for Nigerians to agree with Jonathan when the necessary amenities that will cushion the hard effects of the subsidy removal have not been provided. He said, “Whether fuel subsidy removal is good or not is not the issue now. With the position the country is, we should not add more problems to Nigerians because its (subsidy) removal has made fuel price to go up and other commodities have sky-rocketed and nothing goes up in Nigerian and comes down. “The government should first of all clean the oil sector, if need be, arrest those that have stolen our money and make them pay for it. Then use the money to repair our roads, put infrastructure in place and cushion the hard effects of fuel subsidy withdrawal. “We will then begin to talk of fuel subsidy. But as long as those things are not put in place and one is making promises, Nigerians will not listen.” |
