uzolexis: Stop acting ignorant please, is it only food stuff pple in the rural areas consume? Even the food stuff sef is imported, you think they dont eat sardine or even the basic rice. They dont use toothpick as well My God, pls which rural area is that that doesn't have access to these basic things. footwears, clothes are all essential and are mostly imported. Maybe you think I live in heaven. Wet in concern baba Segun for ikere with toothpick when he can use broom locally sourced? Which foreign foods do they eat in the rural area apart from rice? Give me a list of an average food eaten in rural area that is sourced abroad. Abet drop the sardine example, sucks.. Wet in concern agbero with overload? You mean the same abokis eating bread and eggs, kunu and rice, yam and rice here in Lagos have suddenly started eating sardine and foreign chips because of dollars in the rural area? Keep the excuse rolling.. Greed and some Nigerians are like bread and butter. If dollar was actually affecting the mama mentioned by the OP, why then did she say "dem say dollar don high, so I must add money"? |

Godson1996: The rural people buy milk, rice, tin tomatoes, slippers, shoes, etc some of these products are manufactured here with imported raw materials. Price must definitely be affected one way or the other. Abeg Jor.. You mean they now buy foreign milk, rice, tin tomatoes, slippers all of a sudden? What happened to where they source it locally before? You are saying rural area dweller ignore the tomatoes in abundance for foreign tin tomatoes? Excuses here and there.. All the while I lived in the rural area, 95% of what was used in cooking were locally sourced/produced so save me the foreign goods excuse. |

Read and understand Bro what you wrote is not in tendem with what is actually happening in the rural area, you can't claim the phone they buy once in green moon is the reason they increased the price of tomatoes in the market. What exactly do they spend dollars on when planting or harvesting tomatoes, yam or palm oil in the village? |

uzolexis: pls Nigeria imports virtually everything....down to toothpick. rice is imported, clothes are imported from china, sardine, phones etc,are you trying to say pple in the rural areas don't need these things there is no grammer in this, this is simply economics multiplier effect and any country heavily dependent on import will experience such in a similar situation. You haven't said what they buy in the rural areas that's connected to dollars. Sardine? Wetin concern mama for village with sardine when there is freshly smoked fish in abundance? I don't like blank statement, please be specific? Wet in concern papa Abdul with toothpick when there is palm tree around? You mean they just realised they had no phone before and decided to buy one now that dollar is scarce? Tell me something else. |

tobiasbeecher: The writer who wrote this is not too savvy as to how the economy works. Though not an economist, but my elementary knowledge of economics tells me that there is what they call the multiplier effect! The multiplier effect is a concept in economics that describes how an injection into an economy, such as an increase in government spending, creates a ripple effect which increases employment and the output of goods and services in the economy. So vice versa, if there is an increase in the price of dollars (which has been the major currency in most of our business transactions), the resultant effect will be an increase in prices of virtually every commodity in Nigeria. The writer failed to understand that the woman palm oil seller has to transport the said oil to the urban market and probably the transporter must have increased the price of his fares because the last time he went to change his tyres and fuel pump, he has to buy them at 20% price increase because the dealer has to increase price because of scarcity of dollars. This goes around and happens in virtually all sectors of the economy. So the woman palm oil seller may not be wrong after all! Sorry o but what exactly are the items related to dollars the people in the rural area buy (where most foodstuffs come from)? Let's keep deceiving ourselves with long grammar. |

Do you need dollars to sell Ugwu? Do you need dollars to sell garri? Do you need dollars to sell paper, tomatoes, oil, maggi, salt sugar e.t.c yet the prices have all gone up.
Who should we blame for this? The govt or the greedy Nigerians who are good at exploiting any little opportunity they see?
Most Nigerians are by default greedy demons always looking for ways to shortchange their neighbors.
The situation of the country right now is a reflection of the people that lives in it.
Once more, the heat in the country shouldn't be blamed on the govt too as someone is already blaming the govt for this.
This govt is even too slow in dolling out the austerity measures needed to get the foundation of this country erected. |

walezy14: Prince Msa Abiola Adedimeji ATTENTION FOR RECORDS!
The History between Ooni, Aalafin and Oba of Benin cannot be distorted because records are there to point to. Chief Edebere and Benin palace should answer the following questions: Why was Oba of Benin after their demised were buried in Ife called the "heaven of Benin Kings" which has not yet controverted. 2. If truly Oduduwa was a son to Ogiso Owodo, after his death, why was he not returnned to Benin and subsequent Oonis that ruled Ife like the Ọba of Lagos until the emergence of Ologunkutete. 3. Why was the official Language of Benin palace was Yoruba. 4. Why was Ibinu corrupted as Benin is Yoruba language. 5. If Odùduwà was Ogiso son, then who was Lamurudu that begat Oduduwa was to Oduduwa and his brothers who were kings in Kukawa and Kogobiri in modern day Borno. 6. Why was the Yoruba nation grew to Ga in Accra, Yoruba in Togo and Republic of Benin. 7. How do they identified that Ekhaderem was Oduduwa who was sent away as a boy and has become so old when the Benin requested for a ruler from the pontiff King Ooni of Ife who was reluctant to send his son to rule in Benin and eventually gave the Benin emissary 3 termites for them to nurture before he can release his son to govern Benin.8. Why was the cavers learnt the technology of caving in Ife. 9. If truly, Odùduwà came from Benin, Why did Benin culture not reflect in Ifè and Yoruba towns and reverse was the case. Now, having asked these questions, I want to contribute that Chief Edebiri goofed by saying Oba is indigenous to Benin, it is worthy to educate him that before Oodua ruled in Ife, there has been Obaluaye, Obatala, Obalufon among others who ruled various clans in Yoruba land and allowed Oduduwa to be the paramount ruler Oba is a King in Yorubaland from time immemorial while Oloja is lesser to OBA and Bale is lesser to Oloja. Also, worthy to remind the high chief is that why Benin was a Kingdom, Oyo was an Empire, an amalgamation of Kingdoms, and I was expecting some historical info, yet another disappointment. Is this the fact of your origin? |

Christianity Etc › Professor Who Said Christians, Muslims Share A God Is Leaving Christian College by honeric01(op): 3:33pm On Feb 08, 2016 |
Updated February 8, 20169:01 AM ET Published February 7, 201612:40 PM ET Camila Domonoske Wheaton College associate professor Larycia Hawkins (right) is greeted by supporter Donna Demir after a news conference on Jan. 6 in Chicago. Hawkins, who's Christian, was suspended by Wheaton, an evangelical Christian school, after she said Muslims and Christians worship the same God. Administrators initiated steps to fire her. On Saturday the professor and school announced they'd parted ways. A professor at an evangelical Christian college who was suspended for saying Christians and Muslims worship the same God will no longer be teaching at the school. As we've reported, Larycia Hawkins, an associate professor of political science who had tenure at Wheaton College in Illinois, was suspended from her job in December For Solidarity Post She was put on paid administrative leave after vowing to wear a hijab for Advent in solidarity with Muslims — not because of the headscarf, but because of a Facebook post about her decision where she wrote about the relationship between Islam and Christianity and said, "as Pope Francis stated last week, we worship the same God." Wheaton administrators said they were concerned that post contradicted the school's statement of faith. Hawkins faced the possibility of being terminated from her job. But before her scheduled hearing, she and the school announced they had agreed to part ways — and wish the best for one another. In an interview with NPR's Michel Martin last month, Hawkins stood by her statement, saying, first of all, it was primarily an expression of solidarity — not an attempt to challenge any theology. But she also said that saying Christians and Muslims are people of the book, with a shared God, doesn't contradict evangelical faith. She was never denying differences between the two faiths, she says. "They're two different religions. And we diverge on questions of salvation, soteriology — how do you get to God? — and also on questions of Christology — who is Christ?" Hawkins said. "I can't intuit ... how they deem me inconsistent with the statement of faith ... when Wheaton College['s] president and provost and an adjunct faculty member in 2007 signed a statement saying exactly what I said — that Muslims and Christians are people of the book, we worship the God of Abraham." Pope Francis said Christians and Muslims worship the same God — but not everyone agrees. Religion Do Christians And Muslims Worship The Same God? (As NPR's Tom Gjelten reported in December, the Catholic Church and most mainstream Muslims agree that Christians and Muslims share the same God. But evangelicals are divided on the question.) In her interview with Michel Martin, Hawkins said she wanted to remain at Wheaton. "I have spent most of my adult career committed to being a professor, a scholar and doing so in a Christian context, where I can live out my beliefs but continue to push my students towards rigorous scholarship in this evangelical environment," Hawkins told Martin. "And so I'm known on campus for challenging people to think outside of the box, and presumably that's why Wheaton wanted me." She was originally scheduled for a hearing late next week to determine whether she would be terminated. Instead, on Saturday night the professor and the college released a joint statement saying they have "found a mutual place of resolution and reconciliation" and "reached a confidential agreement under which they will part ways." http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/02/07/465916095/professor-who-said-christians-muslims-share-a-god-is-leaving-christian-college

The most common language by number of people are Mandarin, Spanish, English, Arabic and Hindi. French comes in a distant 18th.
While I see the benefit in being multi lingual, I don't understand why it has to be French. Why not make it mandatory for our students to study a second international language and give them the choice. We are not a former French colony who have lots of dealings with France, and French is not our official language so why does it have to be french? The reasons were given in the article, yet you don't understand? SMH! |
