Nigeria's Under-20 Women's national team flew out to Germany on Wednesday night, after the country avoided a ban from FIFA when the government withdrew its threat to pull out of international competition for two years. The Falconets, one of 16 teams competing at the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup, were initially scheduled to depart last weekend, but those plans had to be shelved while the country's football leadership sorted out its internal crisis. Quarter- finalists at the last edition of the competition staged in Chile in November 2008, the Nigerian Falconets were set to miss the tournament in Germany following President Goodluck Jonathan’s pronouncement last week. Head Coach Egan Adat led out the final 21–person squad comprising of goalkeepers Mabel Egwuenu, Rabi Ihiabe and Alaba Jonathan. Others are Joy Jegede, Ngozi Ebere, Gloria Ofoegbu, Esther Michael, Marvis Ohale, Amarachi Okoronkwo, Ugochi Oparanozie, Rebecca Kalu, Glory Iroka, Uchechi Sunday, Esther Sunday, Helen Ukaonu, Charity Adule, Martina Ohadugha, Cecilia Nku, Ebere Orji, Blessing Edoho and Soo Adekwagh. Nigeria will play in Group C of the tournament alongside England, Mexico and Japan. The Falconets first tackle England in Augsburg next Wednesday, before taking on Japan in the same city on July 17. They will then play Mexico in Bochum on July 21. Nigeria reached the quarter-finals of the last edition of the competition in Chile in 2008 before losing to France in extra-time. http://kickoffnigeria.com/news/16641/falconets-depart-for-u-20-womens-wc.php |
Posted: 2010-07-08 08:11 Nigeria's Sports Minister Isa Bio has told the Nigeria Football Federation to focus on local talent as the country rebuilds its team after a disappointing World Cup performance. The Super Eagles, without a single player from the domestic league, were eliminated in the first round round after losses to Argentina and Greece, and a draw against South Korea. The performance left fans, media and even the country's leadership questioning the over reliance on foreign players and led to a purge in the leadership of the football federation. Bio has now told the new leadership it is time to look inwards “We had no business playing the kind of football we played at the World Cup. We have abundant talents in Nigeria and we don’t have to be scurrying to Europe to get players anytime we have a competition. "We should be able to groom two or three standard senior teams that we can call up to duty at any period in time. “I believe that you should be able to use the 2012 Nations Cup competition to prove that we have abundant talents in this country. “Every Nigerian wants to see his team do well in every match. Going to the World Cup, we thought we had a team that could at least reach the quarter finals. But what we got was disappointment, despite the physical presence and support of Mr. President, several ministers and several governors." Bio also called for a new relationship among the NFF, the NSC and FIFA. “There is no reason to be suspicious of one another. We should be able to work together seamlessly. “I congratulate you on behalf of Nigeria’s teeming football followers, for purging yourselves and for the pledge to be focused. But I must tell you that there is so much to be done. Every Nigerian is passionate about the game of football and it is a big task resting on your shoulders." Nigeria will have a chance to test their new team against Madagascar in September when qualification for the 2012 African Nations Cup starts. http://kickoffnigeria.com/news/16643/nigeria-to-focus-on-local-talent.php |
Dethroned Nigeria champions Bayelsa United relegated Dethroned Nigeria champions relegated Posted: 2010-07-08 08:26 Bayelsa United were on Wednesday relegated from the Nigeria Premier League, just one season after winning the title and competing in the CAF Champions League. A 2-0 loss at Kaduna United condemned the 2009 champions to life in the lower reaches of Nigerian football, along with Gateway, Ranchers Bees and Wikki Tourists. Bayelsa, flush with cash at the time, claimed the Nigerian title in 2009 with a string of stirring performances especially at their formidable home fortress. But this season, the club have struggled with financial trouble, with players claiming they are owed wages, bonuses and sign-on fees from last the last campaign. The State government was forced to order an audit of the club's finances after numerous complaints, but the players remained unpaid, leading to drastic drop in motivation and performances. |
dominique:They have actually won 6 and not 4, don't you know most of our sport analysts don't know anything about football in Nigeria? they rather keep making noise about foreign league than do their real job of sourcing for information. afam4eva:Falasies, what did they win? FA cup? do you know how many FA cups Insurance, 3sc have also won? the overall medal, it's Enyimba that has got most (2 ccl) included. |

NPL congratulates Ahmed Musa Tuesday, 6 July 2010 The Nigeria Premier League has congratulated Kano Pillars Ahmed Musa for creating a goal scoring record this season. Executive Secretary of the league organising body, Alhassan Yakmut told www.npl.com.ng that Musa has shown that there are great potentials in the Premier League. "We want to congratulate him for this wonderful feat. He broke the record by scoring 18 goals after Jatau and Orok set the record at 17 goals, and we are happy that he did not falter throughout the season. "This record has been in existence for over 20 years and in spite of the injuries he sustained in the season, Musa did his best to break the record set by Ishaya Jatau and Akarandut Orok. "And when you look at the way the season dragged on, you will realise that he had done so much to write his name in gold. It also goes to show that we have great players in the domestic league. "The record will motivate other players in the league to do in any given situation," Yakmut said.

NPL chairman to reward Ahmed Musa for goal’s record Tuesday, 6 July 2010 Chairman of Nigeria Premier League, Davidson Owumi has promised to reward Kano Pillars Ahmed Musa for breaking the professional league goal's record set by Ishaya Jatau and Akarandut Orok. Jatau and Orok netted 17 goals each in 1990 and 2009, but Musa has gone step higher by scoring 18 goals this season. Owumi told www.npl.com.ng that players like Musa should be encouraged to give their best in the domestic league. "In 1985, I was the highest goals scorer in the league, so I know what it takes to strive in one season to get goals. That is why I have promised in due course to reward Ahmed Musa for breaking that record. "He will get a special gift from me because we must motivate our players so that they can always give their best in any given situation. "I am happy for him because this is his first season with a top flight team in the Premier League. He joined Pillars from the Jos University Teaching Hospital and he has proven to be a worthy buy for the Kano side. The new board of the Nigeria Premier League is determined to reward excellence so as to raise the profile of the game in the country," Owumi said.

afam4eva:Nah bro, since both Enyimba and Rangers have same number of title, Enyimba edges them out with the 2 champions league they have already, so currently, they are the best ok? |
Dis Guy:You dey mind them? football management is not gragra. dominique:The most competitive league in the world is the Nigerian league, i don't care what people say about the stands, what i care about is how hard is it to get 3 points from any match, even at home self, it's not sure lol. |
Ah ok oo, i hia u, thanks sha. @topic Nice hairdo ![]() |

Well, maybe she is just being naive and might be thinking kissing or touching might make her lose her virginity lol. Well, on same path with you but my case is more advance, we have passed the stage of "don't touch", don't kiss", i know my boundary and she knows what is expected of her. so just try to confirm if her fears is the above mentioned reasons or something else. Be patient and stop ditching Virgins, only you 3 already? you must be lucky and Innocent, i think the Innocent men always fall into this "lucky" deep kind of girls. Karma right? ![]() |
dominique:They hardly update that website, what they know how to do is share money. Nah, if Sunshine were able to beat Wolves 2 0, then i see them doing something, afterall wolves represented us last season but couldn't do anything. they got beaten black and blue even after winning 2 to 1 here in Nigeria. folem:Well, this season, they chose the replay part and didn't use the 3 points own, do you know that it's not only Bayelsa United that abandoned matches this season? Enyimba and Pillars also did some match abandonment too but they were all made to replay their matches with some fines, so sorry for your Bayelsa, let them go back and bribe their way out of the national league again as we all know. ![]() |
Too bad i have low working capital, made 100pips already today. ![]() |
