Memejem:
I live in Canada and FGM is illegal here. So I haven't seen any botched FM cases here. But I've seen difficult deliveries from women who have had the procedure don't elsewhere. I've seen cases of women and children being unable to urinate properly, having higher incidences of vaginal infections and difficulties with their menstrual period as a direct result of this procedure. But those problems aren't faced by their male counterparts because of their circumcision.

You just don't understand.

Anyways since you're not in the medical profession it makes it more evident to me that it is more difficult for you to grasp the severity of this issue and you're obviously not willing to do more research and educate yourself. You are more concerned about a perceived opinion of the western world when by all indications you don't live amongst them.

It's quite ridiculous on your part actually.
This is about being rational, which you are not because your mind has been programmed to see it as bad. Like i had said earlier, same way you have bad cases of female circumcision is the same way you have bad cases of male circumcision. for every person you've seen haven issues after female circumcision, there are a thousand more who have gone about live a healthy life.

All I'm advocating for really is an end to the bias, and this senseless criminalising of female circumcision while male circumcision is tolerated in the same breathe, which you yourself are guilty of. did you see the pictures i uploaded earlier? there are a thousand more cases like that, and truth be told the only reason people circumcise their male children is because of religious injunction as against any argument of hygiene that is being put up.

Are you in the medical profession? Yes or no?

And no. I'm not planning on cicumcising any of my children. If they get older and decide to do that to themselves that will be their decision.
No I'm not in the medical profession. Since you are there, please tell me how many cases of female genital cutting (botched) you have personally witnessed/attended to
HealthRe: Female Genital Mutilation: What You Need To Know As A Nigerian by hoodboy(m): 6:46am On Jul 26, 2016
Memejem:
In the western modern world BOTH practices are frowned upon. If you were in the medical field you would understand that FMG and male circumcision are not similar surgical procedures although on paper it sounds the same.

It's obvious that you are speaking from a place of emotion rather than through factually based evidence or real experience

Where are the standards made by the medial profession for FGM as you claim. Please post it .An act that has been criminalized by many countries does not have regulations. Most countries that engage in this act are not doing it in hospitals with the supervision of licensed health professionals. But rather in dodgy unsanitary enviornments that do more harm than good.

Let's agree to disagree. This conversation is not a discourse but rather an emotional outburst on your part.

If you care to do the research you will find that there is a huge outcry from thousands of women who have had this procedure done, condemning it from different cultures and countries all over the world. The united nations have gotten involved and it's reached the judicial system of many countries. They are not all wrong. These movements and outcries are not based on a double staNdard.

Educate yourself on this issue from an objective standpoint. Put culture aside and critically think about it. This issue has nothing to do with the west vs Nigeria. Its not them vs us.

Also ask yourself how many men had gathered together across the globe to spread awareness about the negative effects of male circumcisionhuh Not many.because it is not the equivalent procedure done to males and not for the same purpose.
My dear I'm being objective, if the west hasn't so criminalized female genital cutting, it would not be receiving the backlash that it is. If they have been "tolerant" of this culture they'd rather sensitize and advocate for safer ways of doing it, e.g using sterilized equipment, perfecting different safe cutting procedures, if half the money spent promoting male circumcision by the west is spent on promoting female circumcision or rather sef if half the money spent criminalizing the procedure is spent understanding it and sensitizing cultures that practice it, the world will be a safer place.

Ps. Are you a mother, did you circumcise your son? If yes why put him through that kind of pain that is utterly unnecessary. This is the same argument against fgm basically yet under that same breathe y'all are mutilating male children mostly in the name of religion and not because of any hygiene excuse
HealthRe: Female Genital Mutilation: What You Need To Know As A Nigerian by hoodboy(m): 7:37pm On Jul 25, 2016
I'm going to post some really nasty but educative pictures so we can all understand how dangerous the widely accepted male circumcision can be, in both african and western settings.

Also good to state that male circumcision can also be fatal

HealthRe: Female Genital Mutilation: What You Need To Know As A Nigerian by hoodboy(m): 7:22pm On Jul 25, 2016
Memejem:
Do you work in the healthcare profession? Because I do. FGM And male circumcision do not have the same dangers and risks for adverse reactions. In males it is a skin flap that is removed though painful because there are nerve endings there. Previously done in the past for religious and hygienic purposes.

I live in north America and the majority of health professionals do not support male circumcision unless it is done for a religious purpose as is outlined in the Bible, Koran and Torah. There is no passage that supports FGM that I know of and is very harmful to the female.

It's not the same procedure for both genders like you think. And most men become circumcised as infanys, though in south Africa it's a rite of passage that traditionally occurs at the onset of puberty.

In regards to your stance on tradition, once an act no longer serves the people or positively advances them it must be done away with. Traditions and cultures is cultivated by people and can be done away with as well.

I believe it should be the choice of the individual of they want to be circumcised. They should wait until the child is of age to decide, more specific to males.
so their religious injunctions super-cedes ours? I'm sure the west will be cool with it if it was a jewish practice.... same way it is done at infancy for men is the same way it's done at infancy too for some girls... All I'm saying is that enough of the double standard, if you condemn female circumcision, condemn male circumcision as well. Rather than criminalise it, you could work towards setting and improving the standards to reduce associated risk, which funny enough exists in the two practices
HealthRe: Female Genital Mutilation: What You Need To Know As A Nigerian by hoodboy(m): 3:39pm On Jul 25, 2016
The double standard is appalling, if it's good for boys, then it's also good for girls... Personally I detest the way Americans criminalise the culture of female circumcision and in the same breathe argue in support of male circumcision. Makes no sense at all,

same way female circumcision can be dangerous is the same way male circumcision is also dangerous. I wish I can post some pictures on this thread and maybe we will all get enlightened

The anatomy of the female Instruments is such that even little mutilation can be dangerous.

I can't remember saying male circumcision is unharmful;I only hinted at the difference in the tissues removed in both cases and its effect on their sex life.
And who told you i hasn't affected our sex life, I've read that uncircumcised men get heightened sensation as against circumcised men. Plus like they say what you don't know won't kill you, just like a lady here that said she didn't know she was circumcised till her bf told her.. if he was none the wiser, i'm sure they would have carried on like there was nothing amiss.

Westerners tell you little mutilations can be dangerous, yet it's not illegal to get piercings and what not in the very same Instruments

-Male circumcision is exclusively about removing only the foreskin while female circumcision is more invasive.

-it affects their sex life negtively;whereas, men don't experience the same.
for your information, there are different types of female genital cutting that vary in degree of what is cut off. all i'm saying is if male circumcision is ethically okay, so also is female circumcision, however cultures that allow it should be sensitised so as to reduce identified risk, such as too much cutting or disease transfer through unsterilised equipment.

Just so you know there are cases of male circumcisions that are quite harmful, http://ulwaluko.co.za/Photos.html

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. However I disagree with your premise which pivots around cultural relativism. What is cultural relativism? It is the understanding that no one cultural is right or wrong, and none is superior to the other. Female Gentile Mutilation (FGM) is considered to cause harm to the individual, so based on this, any social benefit is considered secondary. FGM has no known health benefit. Therefore cultural relativism argument cannot be used as a cover for this harmful practice.

Any cultural practice that causes physical harm as well as exposes the woman to health risks should be condemned. FGM exposes the woman to painful childbirth and deprives her of sexual pleasure. A woman is tortured and butchered in the name of tradition. Does a woman not have the right over what happens to her body? They should never be forced to under go such painful cultural practice which only serve to subjugate and establish control over them.
Please enlighten me, how do you know female circumcision has no health benefits? just to let you know that same way some scholars say it has no benefits is the same way other scholars argue that it does, just that research around female circumcision is poorly funded and largely ignored due to western bias. How do you know male circumcision has any health benefit, beyond the religious injunction that makes it acceptable to the people who promote it?

All I am saying is don't criminalise female circumcision, rather, promote healthy ways to go about it e.g. the ability to get it done by trained professionals in a clinic using industry set safety standards
FamilyRe: Female Genital Mutilation: Woman And Husband Escapes With Children (pic) by hoodboy(m): 1:52pm On Jul 24, 2016
In my opinion I think most of us Nigerians that abhor FGM majorly do so because of western propaganda. If not why would male circumcision be correct and female circumcision evil, violent, again women right and all what not, is it not the same cutting?

Rather than criminalise FGM, they should try to advocate for safer FGM so that for those whose culture/religion demands it, it can be done without avoidable risk such as HIV, 'mutilations' etc, a proper standard should be created as it is with male circumcision.

Western culture is not the sole judge of moral standard and they should stop the denigration of other cultures that do not entirely agree with theirs. If female circumcision is a mutilation, so also is male circumcision, and in both cases it can be viewed as the abuse of a child's right because it's nor even done with their permission if babies could talk do you think they'd readily agree to cut their peepee

The earpiece is not the culprit in this case, chances were he was deep in sleep, even if he couldn't hear the truck he still would have felt the vibrations from the truck. the driver of the truck should have checked carefully before mounting his truck, plus the deceased is also to blame for sleeping under a truck
