diggz:Return that smelly package. When someone doesn't understand the difference between a comparison and an example, he starts forming intelligence. When old people are doing things that their younger counterparts can't even fathom in the same sports, isn't that a sign that older people can still cut it? Or are the ones I listed in those sports the only participants in their sports? Or are all basketballers, tennis players, athletes or boxers all above 30? But as usual this habitual apologist won't apply simple perspective when reading. |
diggz:The crux of the matter right there. And till we get the true answer to that we all are doing verbal gymnastics. |
Nihilist:What you have said is a fact. Arguing against it means one is either stupid or tone deaf. But my gripe is that proponents of this over 30 thing don't want to accept that those who are that age can actually contribute meaningfully. For the record, I brought those sports just to show that it is not restricted to just football alone. And as start and stop a game as basketball is, it is almost as intense physically, if not as intense, as football. You might want to disagree. But that is another argument for another day. If people like Oliver Kahn can drag their sides to World Cup finals single handedly and win Golden Balls, or Zidane and Cannavaro can be both gold and silver ball winners in the same World Cup, with the latter even winning WPOTY, or people like Zlatan can hit nearly 30 goals in a season then I'm not sure what dayo's point is when he blames City's fortunes on an ageing defense last season. |
raumdeuter:Ogbeni tell us the reason why your Pep is preparing a second bid for a 29 year old Jonny Evans and stop pretending to be an ostrich though the resemblance is quite uncanny. All this forming intellectual intelligence won't take you anywhere. Tomorrow you will want people to take you serious when you sound and look like gorimapa. |
Eruditor:I am not discounting the age thing. But when someone irresponsibly uses it as basis for poor performance then that is just wrong. I gave examples of not one but two title winning sides [Man united 2011 and 2013] that had three of its regular starting four at age 30 or over. And my point is that there are several existing and previous scenarios where players over 30 have given above average performances. Not just in football but sport in general. In basketball, the Chicago Bulls from 95-98 were near the oldest side in the NBA. Michael Jordan at age 35 in 98 not only won an NBA title that year, he was MVP both in the regular season and the finals. LeBron JAMES is 32,and he averaged a triple double in this years finals. If you are a basketball aficionado you will know what this means statistically. Up till 2017 it had never been done until LeBron. In tennis, where is Roger Federer getting the strength to win two of the three grand slams already contested for this year? You mentioned Usain bolt, but he lost the 100m final to a35 year oldJustin Gatlin. And I'm pretty confident that athletics is the place you don't want to go if you're looking for how to prove that older athletes can't cope with competition. Same for boxing where people like Bernard Hopkins were winning world titles into their forties.Ditto for Floyd mayweather who won world titles in his 30s You have a solid point about their performances as they age but when someone says that is the primary reason for a teams failure, I won't buy it. It's just lazy. I have tried to make the point about Pep signing rubbish players last season as well as his early treatment of City stalwarts prior to his arrival as reasons for his disappointing season last term. But no, Clichy Sagna and Zabaletta being over 30 is why Pep went trophiless. Yet the same City has a 29 year old Otamendi, a 32 year old Kompany still on their books, and reportedly made a bid for a 29 year old Jonny Evans. How do you marry that with his argument that "football is for young people"? |
sod09:But our resident age expects us to believe that "football is for young people". When you point out his gaffe he will tell you that you are cherry picking. Then he will say he is doing discrimination based on intelligence. A meeting of horned animals was called and the snail showed up. Just like our kage expert claiming to be an intellectual because he is making a hollow excuse for a Pep that bought duds and frauds last season while listing several of those old players regularly that same season. If he is intelligent then I have the cure for cancer and the solution to the Middle East problem because it is clear his sIQ is inversely proportional to the square of the rate of his hair loss I would have bought his argument if he said those players were not good enough. But to solely hinge City's failure last season on being an ageing squad is pure falsehood. Eruditor:Substitute or not, this move defies the lame lie that someone has been peddling here about City having an old squad. This is after Pep failed to bring in a 34 year oldDani Alec's after publicly courting him this summer. It's mind boggling that City bid for a man entering his 30s when it is being theorized that the back four last season was too old. Let's see how this e-Spider-Man spins this web. |
dopeJemi:Especially when he knew he was going to assume the post like 6 months before hand. Dayo hasn't told us how his signings last season fared being that Pep inherited a side that he (dayo) is claiming was old. The Stones, Bravos, Nolitos, Gundigans that ended up creating more problems for City. |
raumdeuter:It is you who has been arguing like a zombie. If you are going by you "football is meant for young people" argument then you should be in a sanitarium by now. Ogbeni stop elevating your shallow intelligence and sit down somewhere. I've given you more than one instance of players over 30 who still put in more than decent shifts. Instead of accepting that the age argument is flawed, you are here trying to form superior intellect. Abeg go back to those soccer illiterates that follow Houston Dynamo and impress them with your falsehood. We know better here. Pep bought mostly duds and failed to improve city with his purchases. His other dealings with the players he met there didn't help his cause. That was why he failed in his first season at City. Trying to propose an alternative age theory will get you nowhere. Go back and think of the next lie you will blow here. You cannot force your silly ideas on us. |
^^^ In the absence of cobhams delivery, I volunteer to deliver this package. Griffon if you like beef me. Skimpledawg your competition is here ![]() |
Lana1:Haven't you heard? "Football is for young people"- raumdeuter When you tell him that players over30 have achieved success in football he asks irrelevant questions. Ronaldo is over 30 and in line to be WPOTY for 2017. Messi is around 30 and scoring for fun every season. Luis Suarez is 30 and still banging in goals. But our resident vulture tells us that the reason Pep failed is because he had four defenders over 30 plus Jesus Navas. This is despite knowing those players were there six months ahead of being named City manager in waiting and spending a full season with these players. It had nothing to do with buying duds like Nolito, crocks like gundogan and flops like Stones and Bravo and exiling people like Toure and Kompany initially and banishing Joe Hart on loan Dayo you are a fraudulent scam if you keep propagating this age lie. The age thing didn't stop him from running after a 34 year old Dani Alves who is older than all the defenders in question that had to be replaced. Seriously, sometimes debating him lowers ones IQ. A surgeon-generals warning needs to come with his post indicating the dangers of responding to him. |
Griffon:I know wrestling is fake but Ric Flair has to be the GOAT. He was an astonishing heel. He did all he could to always retain the title, and he was always cheating. All the good guys would do allbthe could but he would weasel his way out either by his horsemen or with a foreign object, or pulling tights. That was in the 80s He made me hate his guts. Always backstabbing the good guys(Sting suffered in his hands). He claims he's been clean for years but I'm not so sure. |
elrony:When people start losing credibility this is the kind of statement they start vomiting online. Maybe Fabio Cannavaro was young as world player of the year at 33years old in 2006,or maybe he has another definition of "young" that we are not privy to. His Germany sides have produced players who in their 30s have excelled in international competitions. Oliver Kahn was best player in 2002 World Cup at 33, just for starters. Lothar Matthau set the record for World Cup appearances at age 36 in France 98. But bald vulture says football is for young people |
Lana1:See why I say it is an asylum escapee? The way it rambles you would assume it is missing its one imaginary friend in its demented head. |
raumdeuter:Your type will say anything to just stay in an argument even when it's obvious you don't have anything to say. So then, according to your logic and argument,Man United had no business winning the 2010/11 and 2012/13 league titles since 3 of their starting back 4 (Rio, Vidic and Evra) were above your cut off age of 30 at those times. Pep is either an idiot (after 6 months advance notice of knowing he would manage an "ageing" City side but decided to persist with the side for a full season till he achieved nothing with it before remembering they were old)or a hot air bag full of excuses for every failure. This age thing is a sorry excuse as your bald head is for holding no hair. |
Lana1:Eyah, Somebody finally answered that sociopath. Life isn't that bad after all. If Lana1 can respond to this living thing all the way from Adamawa then there is indeed a God somewhere. |
Danhumprey:It's actually easy to be swayed by the performance today(and to be honest it's the best all round we've had since Fergie left in my opinion) as heartwarming as it looked but we can never stop strengthening while we can. It would appear Jose has solved the midfield steel problem with the addition of Matic as well as us looking quite fearsome going forward but is still early days. I think we still need some defensive reinforcements given how unreliable Smalling and Jones are and Rojo andShaw being out long term |
raumdeuter:I don't understand why age is the basis for your argument. City had enough quality in that side to mount a title challenge.Pep had some time to figure the age part out given that he knew he would be city boss months in advance and could have identified it and taken action on it prior to the start of last season.unless you're implying he was inept in realizing the "age" "problem" ,he will still have excuses in May if he fails to win the league.if he decided to retroactively deal with the glaring problem after a full year at the helm then he may not be as smart as you give him credit for given that he should have seen it from a distance My point is, I still don't see how age was the issue with city last season. |
PietroRico:thought he was a left winger,no? |
I've been of the conviction that we don't need to sign Perisic if Martial is motivated and focused and given adequate game time. The early signs look good. |
PietroRico:This is the truth. I think we had like20something attempts that day. The only difference is that today we were more clinical |
raumdeuter:I thought City finished above United last season. So how does your assertion above tally with facts on ground? |
Somebody reminds me of Mercury man in Terminatior 2:Judgement day. Just shifting shape anyhow |
larride:Possibly. But at the moment I think the forward line looks good if they can retain consistency. Hopefully Pogba can be serious and play some constructive football like he appeared to do today without unnecessary showboating. |
PietroRico:Be kind to the homeless waif with no real-life friends. |
Danhumprey:Tell the truth and shame the devil, I no lie I dry complain. But I can help with a few names. ChristineC dopeJemi |
Oasis007:i just like using the blunt tool as English refresher, nothing more. |
Nihilist:No problems. Not sure what the emboldened means in the context of your side winning the title last season. Kante was there to do all that. Like you said it's no point going over that since it's water under the bridge. Hopefully Bakayoko doesn't disappoint your high expectation when he comes back. |
Midfield reinvigorated with Matic. Even Pogba got some sense today. Lukaku? I had my doubts about him but I think he's the sh1t. Gonna be an interesting season. Just asking,do we still need any reinforcements? |
Nihilist:We shall see. It's too early to make assertions for this season. But it doesn't look like Chelsea made the right move disposing of him at the moment. I think you underestimated his value to your side in the light of Kante's arrival. |
sod09:Somebody, anybody please respond to this attention seeking post |
Nihilist:As you were saying. . . |
Griffon:Hey you can't knock a brothers hustle. How do you know my capabilities when you haven't tried me? |
