Because of a horrible 45mins display against a mediocre team, we now defend against mediocre Teams, if I ask some of you now to show me a game we were that poor against another mediocre team now, una go zip mouth

we have played some of the best free flowing attacking football in the league since we appointed mourihno but noooo, the second half display against Southampton is what we play all the time and what we will continue playing because his name is mourihno, pathetic.. One game, one freaking game and you guys can't think straight, man city this man city that, Leicester City Vs Man City at the King power stadium last season, 3-0 at half time, watch the first half of that match and come back and say man city again if I will not slap sense into you

Saturday came, we played and we complained, move the fnck on and stop spewing shi.t about how we defend against this mediocre team and that mediocre team when there is no fact to back up that ridiculous claim, must every game be exciting ?

some o' y'all need to shut up for real because you are beginning to say silly things that are irritating
Some of the reaction has been over the top in my honest view.

We've won 5 out of the first 6 games while being undefeated thus far. I'm looking back and checking when last we had this good a start, you'd have to go to the start of 2011/12 to get an answer, 6 years ago.

I'm very puzzled at what I've been reading for nearly two days.

To all the folks on both sides of the divide:

It's just ONE game.

The season is still young and there are many games to be played.

I'm sure that we will revisit this argument, but for me, I'm still content. We're second only on goal difference and there is cause to be optimistic.

Just chill guys. The angst here makes it look and feel like we are in a crisis.

We all know the Reason behind Martial switching off last Season. He's a young Lad, deeply in Love, but eventually gets knocked off.

He's a huge Talent, and I'm kinda having full Confidence in him this Season. It's evident in bis Games so far..... that's he's happy to play and he's enjoying tearing Apart any Defenders that come his Way!

JM is pushing, he has Confidence, he gives freedom to show and hone his Skills - and with Time he's gonna be unstoppable!
I thik we should pump the brakes on this optimism.

Things are very fluid, especially with Jose. One game he deems a bad performance will change everything.

I heard he was upset with Herrera for bringing a friend who had distant links to Celta Vigo to Carrington, prior to the Europa League Semi Final last season and is presently suffering for that "transgression" till date.

While we celebrate what we think and/or feel is his return to form, I think I am holding my breath and am on pins and needles.

We can only hope that Jose for all his tactical acumen will not upset the cart with a tantrum here or there.

To be fair and candid, it wasn't out of place to be less than optimistic prior to this season.

However, some of the criticism was overboard.

One never saw anything good in United, no matter the positive changes made(hence the Cattermole reference) . The other is just insane.

Nihilist:
What does 'Unsettled' actually mean? Most footballers are professional, with the exception of the few psycho nutjobs like Costa and William Gallas.
I'm sure you're referring to the ideal state where we think or expect that players should behave a certain kind of way.
Because if the stories we heard about the conduct of these players have any kind of truth, I'm pretty sure it's safe to conclude that people like Coutinho, Mbappe (though not in England) have acted unprofessionally (e.g. back injury, refusing to train and the like)

so in that sense, I could say that being unsettled means they have their heart set on a move away from their present club as a result of a big bid from a big club.
Nihilist:
It's in no player's interest to refuse to train or refuse to play to the best of his ability as each training session is an opportunity to stay fit, and each match played is an opportunity to advertise your wares.

Dem no born the likes of Coutinho and VVD well to pull some funny stunts now the window is closed. Infact, both have reportedly returned to full training with their respective teams
Largely true.
But unfortunately, during the transfer window, this type of behavior (e.g. not training or playing) has become the norm because players used to have the power to sort of dictate where they would play the coming season to an extent. It was only this summer we saw clubs actually refuse to sell players under contract in spite of large sums offered, so in that sense ,the clubs might be sending a message that they call the shots.
Of course you could be in breach of contract if you forgo your duties, which is why nobody will attempt that move when the window is closed. But everyone who has a chance to play for a big club will try every move possible to get his wish, regardless of the effect on the team.

Nihilist:
We can't underestimate the effect that exile to the reserves or solitary training in combination with financial penalty can have on a player's attitude. Costa is currently without a club, and to further rub ata rodo into the wound, his replacement has been firing for club and country.

By January, Atletico might not want him sef, and Chelsea are not obligated to sell.

Unless you're Ronaldo or Messi, these days EPL clubs can and will deal with you if you step out of line - ask Yaya Toure.
You have made valid points.
But the converse of the scenario you painted could also happen, i.e. Costa's replacement could be out with a long-term injury or lose form.
In that event, what does Chelsea do?

To an extent, stand-offs with a wantaway player are a gamble, even with the club holding so many aces , in my view. I'd rather have a player who isn't focused with the club's targets for the season ahead leave than have him disrupt the whole team chemistry, given that the player may have a close-knit fraternity with some teammates who would be seemingly sympathetic, especially if the player preaches the gospel of it-could-happen-to-you to them.

Nihilist:
Completely Agree.

Too bad, it does not matter who buys which club in Bundesliga - Bayern will still steal all the good players
My point exactly in the first place.

Even if the clubs feel a shorter window might bridge the gap, the Citys Uniteds, Chelseas, etc will offer more money to get their targets. So it doesn't really change anything in the long run.
It should make those big clubs more proactive in pursuing targets during a shortened summer as well.

Nihilist:
The money that's in the EPL now makes it a lot harder to unsettle players - ask Costa, Sanchez, VVD and Coutinho.

An EPL club can actually say and mean no, without worrying about the repercussion
I think the clubs are just refusing to sell. The players are obviously unsettled.

This will only drive up the already over-inflated prices in the market where you have to pay above 50 million to get a decent/above average player.

Dhellake:
Bad move in my opinion. Will make sense if it is closing for both selling and buying, allowing clubs to still afterwards means the likes of Barca and MAdrid can get to unsettle an EPL player while the club can't get to replace/
Spot on.

Unfortunately the English for all their innovation aren't very smart people.

This will only empower European opponents the more.

I'm thinking the idea for this was borne from the supposed need of the smaller clubs to somewhat curtail the spending by the big sides. But it will only mean that those big sides will do spend more to negate whatever disadvantages this new rule will attempt to bridge. Even from a simplistic view it makes sense to keep the window open for as long as possible to enable you strengthen.

Only Makelele IMO can mark him out. Not Gattuso, no other defender.
Ronaldinho was effectively finished by the time he left Barca.
He was a shadow of himself at Milan.
There may have been flashes of brilliance while at the San Siro but he was nowhere near the high levels of performance he usuallyj gave where Bernabeu fans gave him a standing ovation in05,I think.
He couldn't even inspire them to eliminate a rag tag United squad that was essentially led by Rooney in the champions league.

Zizou:
3 time WPOTY.
Euro 2000 best player
World cup 2006 best player
To mention a few.

Nihilist:
Quite simply, Ronaldinho has won every tournament de lima won. It's not the same vice versa.
For me Ronaldinho wasn't the best player on the 2002 world cup team for example.
Rivaldo and Ronaldo had more impact. Ronaldo was top scorer and second best player in that tournament, for example.

Nihilist:
If you look at the complete set of collectibles, that UCL that De Lima lacks puts Dinho ahead of him. It's very very tight, but that's the only way I can differentiate.
Fair point. But it's not enough for me.

Nihilist:
Also Dinho's WPOTY awards are not world cup or Euros related - They are for being the best player over 2 seasons, not over 8 games like Zidane.
Ronaldo won the WPOTY in 1996.
Zizou in 2003.

Those weren't world cup or copa years for both involved.

Ronaldo's debut season at Barcelona was something else, better in terms of output than anything Ronaldinho achieved as far as the eye can see.

Nihilist:
In terms of Impact on the pitch, Dinho's electric performance can only be matched by de Lima. Zizou was never the magical dynamo on the pitch like those 2.

So in my opinon, Dinho is ahead of Zizou and R9.
Respect your opinion, this is largely a subjective debate.

The main thing I would say goes for Dinho is the fact that he could be said to have played with less illustrious teammates than Zizou and Ronaldo to achieve whatever he did.

My gripe with his was that he sort of fizzled out.

he flopped at the world cup in 2006 and was nearly an afterthought afterwards.

He was unceremoniously shipped off to Milan at 28, supposedly at the height of his career and has not managed to come anywhere near the glorious heights he once dominated.
