Most people do not know that a single claim can swallow years of premium paid. Also, the peace of mind that insurance gives in case life happens is priceless.

You're right about the dribbling but note that the insurance policy document contains lots of terms, warranties and conditions that the customer should or ought to comply with, violations of these terms and conditions may give rise to accident or damage happening and then the insurance company may deny paying out to settle the customer.

The problem is most customers don't read the policy and when claims happens there, the insurance company will point out where they erred.

People fight because they are not aware of the benefits of the insurance document in their hands.

People file claims everyday , insurance companies in Nigeria pays billions in claims every quarters. The reports are on the internet. Most companies and businesses don't do without insurance, and they make claims regularly.

Because of the failure of our laws. So many insurance scams are there and the local Laws are not helping.

Aside that, there's low penetration and lack of understanding of how insurance works.

Lots of person take up policies but do not understand the terms and conditions of the policy until there's claim.

That's why corporates and other enlightened individuals go through brokers for their policies; brokers are professionals who understand the nitty gritty of insurance.

Generally, academia is not a place to earn a lot of money, even in the long term. I knew how much assistant professors at my Japanese alma mater received per annum. A new graduate from the same university who works for a semiconductor or finance firm will earn more than assistant professors and professors in the near future. Mind you, to become an assistant professor requires a PhD from a good school, publications in top journals and a postdoc stint.

When this assistant professor moved to a private chemical company, his pay doubled. Academia offers job security (in the US, once on tenure, you hardly get sacked or removed), time to work on projects you really love without undue external pressures. Although, this is facing problems with the "publish or perish culture).

As I've mentioned in a different thread, if you want to earn good money in academia (STEM related):
- Discover a drug or invent something new. The head of the department worked with a big Japanese chemical company to commercialise his research findings. Na so him take dey fund his lifestyle (owns two BMWs).. George Church of Harvard/MIT is another prolific researcher cum entrepreneur.

For business/social sciences:
- Provide consultancy services to businesses, governments and organisations. This also applies to those in the agric space, whether professors of soil or animal science

For humanities:
- Write books to sell
- Public speaking. Charge people/organisations to speak at their events.
- Develop workplace theories to implement them in the corporate environment.

Gwagwalada is FCT not Abuja. There’s a difference. Mararaba is in Nassarawa State but is less than 10 kilometers from Aso Rock villa. Gwagwalada is a good 80 kilometers from the city center. Don’t forget that Abaji is FCT too but nearly 120 kilometers from the city center.
