Politics / Barack Obama May Cancel Visit To Nigeria Cos Of Alamieyeseigha Pardon by Horlazuncanmi(m): 2:12pm On Mar 17, 2013
PRESIDENT Barack Obama’s official relationship with President Goodluck Jonathan appears to be in jeopardy, following indications that Obama’s scheduled visit to Nigeria has been suspended over the state pardon granted former Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha.

It was gathered that the visit had already been agreed upon between governments of the United States and Nigeria, but has to be put on hold as a result of domestic pressure over the Boko Haram menace and Alamieyeseigha, whose corruption case has become a model for government officials in showing America’s new determination to fight kleptocracy around the world.Since the pardon was announced by the Nigerian government, western news agencies and press, including Associated Press, New York Times and local TV networks have made a big deal of the story, which sources said sent shock waves across US government circles, including State Department, Justice Department and the Homeland Security Department-all US government agencies that were involved in dealing with the US end of the Alamieyeseigha corruption case.

VENEZUELAN PRESIDENT HUGO CHAVEZ HAS DIED, VICE PRESIDENT NICOLAS MADURO SAYS. HE WAS 58
Posted in: Latest News | March 5, 2013 at 5:25 pm, by naijNo comments
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has passed away at the age of 58 following a two-years-long fight against cancer and a severe respiratory infection. His untimely demise raises serious questions about the future of the oil-rich regional power.

The president of Venezuela died on Tuesday, said Vice President Nicolas Maduro. This comes weeks after his return from Cuba where he underwent a cancer operation. His ‘delicate condition’ had recently worsened due to complications of a respiratory infection, and official reports said he was breathing through a tracheal tube, unable to speak.

One of the world’s best-known socialist leaders and a staunch critic of the United States, Chavez had been battling the disease for nearly two years, undergoing four surgeries and several sessions of chemotherapy in Havana.

Despite his ailing health, Chavez was reelected in November to a fourth term. However, he was not able to attend his January 10 inauguration ceremony, which cast doubt on the succession of power in the country. Prior to his death, the Venezuelan opposition called for a new election should Chavez be unfit to take over the office.

The Venezuelan president was one of the most controversial world leaders in recent history, and a vocal critic of ‘US imperialism.’

Chavez began his adult life as an army officer in Venezuela’s paratrooper unit; he staged a coup in 1992 along with other disgruntled members of the military in an attempt to overthrow the ruling government of Carlos Andres Perez.

The coup failed, and Chavez spent two years in prison until he was pardoned; this marked the beginning of his momentous career in politics.

He then founded the revolutionary political party ‘Movement of the Fifth Republic’ and ran for president in 1998, promising economic reforms and campaigning against government corruption.

He won the presidency in 1999 by riding a wave of popular outrage at Venezuela’s traditional political elite.

Chavez has remained in power continually since then, except for a brief period in April 2002 when he was removed by military leaders over his controversial plan to tighten his personal grip on the state-run oil industry.

He returned to power, but a stalemate ensued, which led to referendum in 2004 on whether Chavez should remain president. A majority of voters chose for Chavez to complete his term.

Revolutionary or autocrat?

Mr. Chavez promised Venezuelans ‘revolutionary’ social policies targeting the ‘predatory oligarchs’ of the establishment. Since he came to power, most major Venezuelan companies have been nationalized. Since 1998, more than 100,000 state-owned cooperatives – which claim to represent some 1.5 million people – have been formed.

His supporters say he speaks for the poor, while his critics argue that he has become increasingly autocratic.
In 2010, Amnesty International criticized the Chavez administration for targeting critics following several politically motivated arrests.

Freedom House listed Venezuela as being only ‘partly free’ in its annual Freedom in the World report in 2011.

Although freedom of the press is enshrined in the 1999 Venezuelan constitution, in 2009 Amnesty International criticized Chavez for “discriminatory policies that have undercut journalists’ freedom of expression.”

Despite the Federal Government's intolerance for Gay activities in Nigeria, Reverend Jide Macaulay, has damned all consequences and reopened his gay church, House of Rainbow in Lagos.
Its primary vision is to reach out to sexual minorities in Nigeria, UK, and around the world.
Rev Rowland Jide Macaulay is a confirmed and ordained Pastor who founded the House Of Rainbow Church in 2006. He openly held Sunday services in a Lagos hotel hall decked out with rainbow flags until the public revolted against the church.
He then fled to the UK after death threats.
Read Pastor Jide's views on homo-sexuality below:

"For me I have always been gay and I never became gay.
I became aware of my same sex attraction whilst living in Nigeria at the age of seven. Boys flirt with each other unknowing all the time and it was at this stage that I was more aware of my emotional, physical, mental and sexual attraction to boys.
I was 14 when I had my first sex with a guy, it was filled with curiousity, passion, embarassment and guilt as with with any heterosexual having sex for the first time.
By this age I had become a youth leader in the church and had spent time reading the bible including discovering chapters that "condemned" homosexuality.
Imagine the furore of my life? Now I have to be discrete, secretive and live a lie. When I look back at my life it never stopped my same sex attractions.
Fast forward thirty years, I am now fully confident that being gay is my natural being and I regretted ever trying to be straight.
I regretted that I did not get the education and appropriate spiritual development to be a gay man. I can understand that and that is why I am determined that the short life I may live in this world I trust God for the development of inclusive Christian education to enable the freedom of the mind, body, soul and spirit.
Recently, my father asked me to prove that homosexuality is genetics. I just looked at him and pointed to myself, "ME" you made me, you gave birth to a homosexual boy he was anxious to know more, so I asked him to prove to me that God is real, not that I don't know but if we were to play "doubting Thomas", lets lay all the cards out.
My homosexuality is real, I am gay and I did not become gay, just like I am black and I did not become black. This is a great way to move forward in life and let the world know that they may hate us but God Adores Us.
House Of Rainbow Fellowship is an inclusive Christian community, that welcomes all people and does not discriminate against LGBTI people (of faith or no faith).
I am proud that the Holy Spirit has led me to start this group, (nearly five years). We are growing with passion and relevance and it is my hope that we would be able to advance the learning and inclusion of all people.
I love myself and it is my daily prayer and hope that millions of LGBTI people around the world, their friends and families will come to understand and love them."

Politics / Ondo Acn Sues Lawmaker-elect For Alleged Forgery by Horlazuncanmi(m): 9:55am On May 19, 2011
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Ondo State and its House of Assembly candidate in Owo Constituency I, Mrs. Ogunoye Folashade, have filed a petition against the Labour Party (LP) legislator-elect, Mr. Samuel Arowele, before the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, the state capital.

They accused him of forgery.

In the 23-page petition filed by an Akure human rights lawyer, Titiloye Charles, and ACN Legal Adviser Bisi Ayeni, the party alleged that Arowele’s Primary School, WAEC/GCE and Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Diploma certificates were forged.

The party averred that Arowele could not have gained admission to study business administration in any university with one credit in Yoruba in WAEC/GCE.

It averred that the diploma certificate was issued from the office of an unspecified director and not that of the Registrar or Vice-Chancellor.

The party urged to nullify Arowele’s election, order a fresh one and prosecute him.
