What if you bid higher than the amount in your account, isn't that better than reinvesting the upfront interest.
Eg. I have 825k, I can decide to bid for 1M because at 18% that 180k interest add transactions costs too, they will just deduct that amount or thereabouts.
On maturity, you get credited 1M.

It was raised earlier in this thread but someone tried it out in one bank and it didn't work out that way. But that would've been the best way anyways. You could also try it and let us know about your findings.

For first bank you simply tick the box for your profit to be reinvest but for some banks like Stanbic IBTC, i think you go back in two weeks time to restart the process.

When you invest in NTB, permit me to assume so you understand better not the real deal..
Let's say you invest 1m for 18% for a 364 days tenure, 18% of 1m gives 180k pry school maths lol, your upfront Interest which is the said 180k is left in your account as your interest (upfront since it's paid at the beginning of your 364 days tenor).. but what is taken from your account is 1m - 180k = 720k, 720k is taken from your account and your interest has been paid already. At the expiration of your 364 days tenor, your account would be credited back with the 1m you originally invested.
In all, you've got #1,180,000 but remember you already got your interest of #180k at the beginning of the investment.

You could use the power of compound interest in your favour by re-investing your profit of 180k. If you bid through first bank there is a column were you could specify if you want your interest to be reinvested or you wait for two weeks for the next auction. Hope this help

N.B: I didn't​ take note of commission fee, safe keeping fee, transfer fee and others for this explanation.

Though you can do a 1m TBN, they are only discouraging you to do FixD so the money will buy them TBN, stop using banks go to investment homes, that is basically their core business, TBN is like a conflict of interest for commercial banks, their staff are trained to address it that way, you may try commercial papers too if you wish.

i like the way u broke dis down, in my opinion, a youngster(below 35yrs), shouldnt think of tying down 20million in real estate if thats all the money he has, because an investment like NTB can double that some in 5yrs.....without any hassles(if rates remain constant or increase), even a profit of 8.6m in two years of NTB investment isnt bad, bearing in mind that u almost have to do nothing to earn it, plus the fact that u have all the time to do ur normal job.

u could actually invest prfits from ur NTB in real estate,while holding ur capital. so for now am routing for the money market.

its a matter of choice anyways.....

1 year as at last auction is around 18.64..
To be on the safe side pending MPC meeting outcome.. if you bid around 18.60 for 364 days tenor..
You simply multiply by 0.1860 * 5,000,000 = ***

Subtract at most #20,000 for bank fees, commission etc. And you should expect your upfront Interest within the said range.

They tried a bit considering that it was around 17 point before now. But always go for a bank were you could bid higher than the inflation rate, that's when you really make a profit.

Please, investment-minded folks, I have some questions gnawing on my mind for some times now which I have been repressing but I had to voice out following the unfortunate event of the supposed/purported failed bids of those who used Stanbic IBTC on the 5-1-17 TBs Offer :

* In which of those bids did Stanbic IBTC fail? Because I placed a 364-day bid which seemed to be unsuccessful too!
I went with Stanbic IBTC Rate.
Anyone with similar experience?
How about the 91-day & 182-day Tenor?

* Is there no way/platform/medium/forum for us to get intel or info on the details of transactions between Commercial Banks and CBN?

* How do we know or determine that the successful Bid Rate quoted for us by the banks is actually the true rate e.g if I'm told my bid is successful at 17.5% for 364-day Tenor and the calculations show so, how are we sure the bank didn't actually use 18.5% and are simply racketeering on the cash generated from this difference in rate which can be huge factoring in the cumulative capital base of numerous investors?

* If I specify my rate myself, what modus operandi obtains between CBN & my Financial House/Commercial Bank?
Do they bid separately for those who choose to go with their rates & those who specified their own rates?
How do they do it?

* Supposing an individual specified his/her own rate which falls in but the banks bid rate fails, what happens?
Will the individual's bid still be successful despite the bank's rate failing the bid?
What obtains in the reverse/converse scenario whereby an individual specifies bid that is above CBN offer range but the Bank's rate falls within?

* Do we have eagle-eyed bodies & institutions to protect individuals investors from the shylock banks who I have this knack & instinct for to be engaging behind closed doors in unwholesome lots of sharp practices?

I also went with Stanbic rate for 364 days and mine was successful. Though initially, Stanbic sent memo to my branch that no 364 days auction, from what I decoded, it was due to the previous auction before that of 5th Jan, were only 91days and 182days were sold. I had to convince my branch that CBN was selling for 364days , and mine was done like 5mins to their closing timel. Some of these bank branches need follow up. You could always try for the next auction.

Mine is even worse off compared to yours, one of their incompetent staff debited my account for no reason and made me lose about 50K.

BUT

In the last couple of months I made N1m through their competent team's advice when all other Banks refused to advice wisely. If you look closer at what you consider evil you may discover some pretty damn good thing about it

They rectified it after I did what I advised you earlier, they are good at problem solving, it took about two weeks for mine to be completely resolved but I knew within 48 hours it was an incompetent person's mistake.
