Alright: Lesson 1: Why the IMEI isnt a reliable method. When Carlcaresophia posted a thread on tracking a lost Tecno phone using your IMEI (refer to https://www.nairaland.com/2122383/how-disable-stolen-mobile-phone) and I quote Carlcaresophia: You can imagine my reaction after reading that thread. Changing the IMEI on an MTK phone is hyper easy, GLO BIS 101 & IMEI Tweaking 101 The same method used to fix a null IMEI can be used to change the IMEI . the video below sheds more light on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAK1DL_L_eg * Summary: An IMEI is far from being a reliable criteria. |

Guys, this isnt an inferiority / superiority thread it you use an iPhone, there are fake ones it you use a Blackberry 10, there are fake ones it you use a Samsung, there are fake ones it you use a HTC, there are fake ones so far what you use has a good market, you can bank on finding a fake somehere! and guess what, most people who tout these brands cant even differentiate an original from a fake. 1 Like |

Most people seem to be satisfied with the IMEI-VC method @ http://gc.tecno-mobile.com/ . Its even more surprising to see many popular Nigerian Tech. blogs chorus this same inadequate approach without scrutiny. The IMEI-VC test is inaccurate because all that's required to pass this test is to change the sticker behind the phone and write some info. to the phone. We decided to carry out a research by comparing fake/cloned Tecno phones to original phones (side by side) and it was only a matter of time before we encountered a fake Tecno M3 that passed the IMEI-VC test flawlessly (just as we expected would happen soon). I'll be discussing some of our findings in this thread to help you better differentiate an original from a fake Tecno phone. Please * If you're a die-hard IMEI-VC loyalist and not willing to listen then you can just click the back button instead of arguing unnecessarily. * If you're Anti-Tecno then please, don't try to troll; we've done the same for original Samsung vs Cloned/Fake Samsung and other popular phones (Infinix just might be next in line if these pirates are still who they are) so this thread is aimed at helping, not arguing superiority or inferiority Visit https://plus.google.com/116652750662576629438/posts/PdPvTZtCr42 if you wish to go ahead of the techniques i'll be listing here. 2 Likes 1 Share |

needinfo: really sorry bro, was having some issues with the Nairaland bot due to answering a lot of people's questions (without posting any links). I guess it saw the activity as spammy. had to stop answering questions. the method you're trying to use isnt advisable. if the partitons dont come out wrong, the naming will. it's best you backup the phone using the guide below. the backup will contain the scatter file(s) and other files you'll need. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJLgSD9zHb8 |

dragnet: I take your comment to mean this is settled and we can all get back to our normal lives. You see, there are too many device issues to help fix, still much Dev. work undone, too many phone technicians to train (and help expand their businesses) for our Team and You (who should both be helping) to get caught in a pointless row. The same Yorubas will say "When two Elephants fight, its the grass that will suffer" The point is, we care strongly about the grass in question because they're our future, so lets sheath our swords and save our strength for the true enemy ahead. *Extends hand in friendly handshake* 1 Like |

dragnet: Considering you guys reputation for closing or deleting threads / posts that are not in your favor, think its best to pass on a fallout with you. Being a Mod doesn't make you a god let alone God so stop oppressing your members. BTW, you might want to refer to the email we sent back then before you degrade the situation any further. Chyjoey: We only just completed our developers release for Tecno M3. We developed a true 4.4 upgrade for Tecno M3 4.2 (not a themed ROM like the Kitkat ROMs you might've been coming across). It was a very tasking project because we had to use kernels from other close MT6572 devices since Tecno wasn't forthcoming with their source codes despite all our efforts. Still have a few more patching to do here and there but the boot.img and frameworks are stable, just a few /lib and /bin tweaks left. Cant tell you for sure if and when a true P9 4.4 or 5.0 will be released by our Team but we'll drop guides and videos on our techniques to help other developers replicate / improve on them |
