Nairaland / General / 25 Excellent Pieces Of Advice You Should Never Ignore by Howcomes(m): 2:58pm On Mar 19, 2016 |
When you hear good advice, you should always do two things: Take it in and pass it ontrue It's easy to find someone to tell you what you want to hear, but your true ally is one who tells you what you need to learn. Give yourself an edge with these Lolly Daskal's 25 gems of sage advice that most people ignore. 1. Take time to know yourself. "Know thyself" said Aristotle. When you know who you are, you can be wise about your goals, your dreams, your standards, your convictions. Knowing who you are allows you to live your life with purpose and meaning. 2. A narrow focus brings big results. The number one reason people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they still have to go instead of how far they have come. But it's a series of small wins that can give us the most significant success. 3. Show up fully. Don't dwell on the past, and don't daydream about the future, but concentrate on showing up fully in the present moment. 4. Don't make assumptions. If you don't know the situation fully, you can't offer an informed opinion. 5. Be patient and persistent. Life is not so much what you accomplish as what you overcome. 6. In order to get, you have to give. If you support, guide, and lead others, if you make contributions to their lives, you will reap the best rewards. 7. Luck comes from hard work. Luck happens when hard work and timing and talent intersect. 8. Be your best at all times. You never know what the future will bring, so always make the best use of the present. 9. Don't try to impress everyone. The unhappiest people are those who care the most about what other people think. Romance / 10 Ways To Practice Humility And Get Result. by Howcomes(m): 10:27pm On Mar 04, 2016 |
Humility is a virtue we all admire in people and desire to have. Though it is difficult for a proud person to become humble without being humbled, but it is possible. We can start trying to become humble by practicing smart daily activities like serving someone or helping someone out. Instinctively, we resist serving because we believe there is a direct relationship between being served and being important. Jesus turned that idea on its head. You can bring your spouse a cup of tea, run an errand for a friend, give away some money and take a group picture with junior colleagues or servants. These are 10 other ways we can practice humility: Visit http://www.morelight.ml/2016/03/10-ways-to-practice-humility-and-get.html |

Health / 7 Hot Weather(heat Wave) Safety Tips And Precautions by Howcomes(m): 8:55pm On Feb 29, 2016 |
Lately in Nigeria we are experiencing extended period of extreme heat, often accompanied by high humidity. Prolonged periods of high temperatures and high humidity, this can be very dangerous for our health. When there is extreme heat and humidity, evaporation is slowed and our body has to work very hard to maintain a normal temperature. Lets use the following tips to prevent heat illnesses and other adverse effect of heat. 1. Monitor those at High Risk(The Vulnerable) Although anyone at any time can suffer from heat-related illness, some people are at greater risk than others. -Infants and young children are sensitive to the effects of high temperatures and rely on others to regulate their environments and provide adequate liquids. -People 65 years of age or older may not compensate for heat stress efficiently and are less likely to sense and respond to change in temperature. -People who are overweight may be prone to heat sickness because of their tendency to retain more body heat. -People who overexert during work or exercise may become dehydrated and susceptible to heat sickness. -People who are physically ill, especially with heart disease or high blood pressure, or who take certain medications, such as for depression, insomnia, or poor circulation, may be affected by extreme heat. 2. Eat The Appropriate Thing. Avoid hot foods and heavy meals—they add heat to your body and Foods that are rich in protein, such as meats and nuts, will increase metabolic heat. Fresh fruit, salads , healthy snacks , and vegetables are good choices. Also avoid exposing your food to dust and wash your hands as frequently as possible. Business / 10 Must Read Online Shopping Safety Tips by Howcomes(m): 7:14pm On Feb 23, 2016 |
1. Check the seller’s customer satisfaction ratings. Other people’s experiences with the merchant that you are considering are often an excellent gauge of what to expect when you order. Review other user’s comments and check out the seller’s rating on sites like Google Shopping. Low “star” ratings may provide a red flag that cautions you to find a more reputable seller. 2. Check the Better Business Bureau site to see if there are a large number of complaints about the seller. The Better Business Bureaus of the United States and Canada are excellent resources to find out specific information about merchants, including whether or not they have any complaints against them related to delivery, product issues, or refund or exchange problems. You can also obtain their business addresses and corporate contact information, which might allow you to circumvent the frontline call center circus of endless automated prompts (i.e. “Press 1 to speak to a semi-live person”). 3. Whenever possible, use a credit card for payment. According to the American Bar Association’s website, safeshopping.org, it is best to use a credit card when paying online because federal law protects credit card users from fraud and limits individual liability to $50. Some card issuers might even waive the $50 liability fee or pay it for you. Consider opening a separate account for buying online so your online purchases don’t get lost in the sea of Starbuck’s coffee transactions in your online banking ledger. Also, look into virtual credit cards if your card issuer offers this service. Some card issuers will give you a one-time use virtual card number that you can use for a single transaction if you are concerned about the security of a particular merchant. 4. Never enter your credit card information on a page that is not encrypted. Look for the “https” and the padlock icon to ensure a site is secure. When shopping online, plastic is the preferred method of payment. However, you must remember that your credit card number is static. It doesn't change unless you close and reopen an account, and once your credit card information is online, it can be compromised if it falls into the wrong hands. There are some measures online shoppers can take to minimize their risk. First and foremost is ensuring that all online shopping is carried out only on secure sites. To be certain the page you're on is secure, look for a tiny padlock icon, usually found in the top right corner of your browser's URL bar. You can also tell if the site is secure by looking for an "s" in the URL address. While non secure sites and pages begin with http://, secure sites begin with https://. 5. Go directly to the seller’s site rather than clicking a “coupon” link that was sent to you by an unknown source. Scammers can often use a tactic called cross-site scripting to craft a hyperlink that appears to be the actual merchant site but actually relays your credit card information to the scammer when you put your payment information into the payment web form. Unless you can verify that a coupon came from the actual vendor’s site to which you have already subscribed, it’s best to avoid random coupons with unknown origins. 6. If you are ordering from a shared computer (i.e. the library, computer lab, or a work PC), log out of the shopping site and clear the browser history, cookies, and page cache. This seems like a no-brainer, but if you’re using a shared machine, always log out of the store website and clear your browser’s page cache, cookies, and history when you are finished ordering something, or the next guy who sits down at the PC you were using might just have himself a little shopping spree on your dime. 7. Never give your social security number or birthday to any online retailer. Vendors should never ask you for your social security number unless you are applying for in-store financing or something to that effect. If they are trying to require you to enter a social security number just to order a product, then they are most likely scammers. Run away fast. While your birthday may seem like an innocent enough piece of data to give out, it’s just one more of the three to four data elements needed by a scammer to steal your identity. Career / 7 Reasons Why Average“2nd Class” Students Are More Successful by Howcomes(m): 1:34am On Feb 15, 2016 |
There is a common belief that if
you study hard and graduate with a
First Class(an A), you will surely find a
great job and get well paid.
Unfortunately, it is not always like that
in reality. Although, most positions
require applicants to have a degree,
not many people look through grades.
What matters is knowledge and the
ability to operate within the system.
So why is it that people who where
average students become more
successful? Let’s see reasons why
students who did not graduate with a
First Class(an A) will be the most
successful.
1. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY WANT
EARLIER.
Average(2nd Class) students don’t
spend much time attending
unnecessary classes.
If you are trying to become a
technician, you obviously don’t need to
work towards getting the award of the
best writer for essays about culture
and your holiday experience.
They are only interested and focused
on classes and subjects that can help
them during their work. They
understand that the knowledge they
need to succeed is the knowledge
they need to fix what they can't stand
go bad, all they want to learn is how
to put an end to what they think of a
problems. To read the full post click this link: www.morelight.ml/2016/02/7-reasons-why-average2nd-class-students.html?m=1 |

Religion / NATO Pledges To Hit Islamic State 'harder' by Howcomes(m): 8:53am On Feb 11, 2016 |
Military action against Islamic State in Libya will be on the agenda when 45 Defence Ministers meet at NATO headquarters in Brussels later. Officially, Britain says it is still waiting for an invitation from the newly formed Libyan administration before considering military help to the country. Privately, plans are being drawn up in Rome, Washington, London and elsewhere for possible airstrikes against IS in the country. The British military might also contribute towards a 6,000 strong training mission for the Libyan Army. The meeting is being chaired by US Defence Secretary Ash Carter and will also discuss what further action can be taken in Iraq and Syria, reports Sky News. The US has not ruled out Saudi Arabian ground troops playing a role in Syria but Secretary Carter insists it is just one option on the table. Pressure will be put on the Gulf States to do more in the region as Washington, London and Paris seek to turn up the pressure on the terrorist group. It will be the first time the defence ministers have formally met since the air campaign began in September 2014. Speaking ahead of the meeting the UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said: “We plan to hit Da’esh (Islamic State) harder, reducing territory, targeting their infrastructure and freeing more people from their brutal regime. “In order to achieve that, regional allies must make further commitments as we look to intensify military activity across Iraq and Syria.” Source: www.morelight.ml/2016/02/nato-pledges-to-hit-islamic-state.html?m=1 |
