Future plans | What to do?

As for me, I believe the 10 yr route / point based system will be blanketed for everyone (based on what I have seen). If you don't know what a PBS looks like, it looks like what is here - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/check-score.html

There will also be an opportunity to make it 5 yrs if you meet some certain criteria which for me, points to a target on folks in the HC sector for the most part, which effectively ignores that they do a very demanding job with long hours and very little protection from abusive clients etc.

The reason for the 10 yr route is hinted here - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/migration-advisory-committee-annual-report-2024/migration-advisory-committee-mac-annual-report-2024-accessible (there is one where it was discussed extensively, cant seem to find it).
It says "The typical household for a Skilled Worker in the H&C route has a lower positive net contribution than for the typical household of workers outside this route due to the relatively lower incomes and higher number of dependants of those on the health and care route"

If you are skilled, you can wait for changes to the GTV or if you have a good profile, can write or research well, please look at the EB1A / EB2 NIW, there is a dedicated thread on NL, a subreddit, and a TG group for it. Oga GPT can also help you structure everything with the right prompts.
Australia , Canada also has open pathways for tech and HC routes which can be explored

As for me and my family, I am EB petition submission ready, as we await what the UK holds or does not hold grin. May Jah help us all

Happy Bank holiday to everyone wink

Does the UK offer a good deal for all the noise?

Simple answer is Yes and No, although I lean more towards No.

My friend who left for Canada about 6 months before I came to the UK received his PR 2 weeks ago. He paid the equivalent of £887 while we paid nearly £14K if not more for 4 yrs SWV and about £13K school fees which means I have somehow forked out £27K in 3 yrs excluding taxes, house rent, council tax etc.

After all that, we will again pay for ILR at £3,029 per person - followed by £1,605 for naturalization as seen here - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/visa-regulations-revised-table/home-office-immigration-and-nationality-fees-9-april-2025 .

IHS was also increased from £624 to £1,035 per person per year in Jan 2024 and there are already discussions for increment in May 2025 | SWV Applications exceeding three years will also rise by 7% from £1,420 to £1,519 in 2025. Be honest, do the maths and tell me you haven't seen a pattern

If we look at the US also, it costs $1015 to apply for the EB2 NIW / EB1A which grants you a green card from the jump and you wonder why they attract all the talented researchers, AI and Cloud guys, have all the innovations while the UK has less than 5 companies out of the top 100 in the world - https://www.financecharts.com/screener/biggest

Fun fact, the UK does not have any popular / well known cloud computing / email provider which is used worldwide. E get why

In all, for the UK to reap the fruits of its "immigrant labor" over time, there has to be a shift from the cash grabbing, "owo mi da" mindset the UK has for legal immigrants / talents keeping in mind that they will one day turn citizens and could go on to do great things … but then, the UK is the UK, hence, 10 yr route which could as well change to 15 yrs if them Kemi Badenoch make it there.

2025 Whitepaper - Much ado about re-election | Opportunity in the midst of chaos

Within every problem or setback lies the seed of an equal or greater opportunity or benefit - Napoleon Hill

You can decide to look at the chaos from 2 angles, one that benefits you and one that stifles you.

On one hand, restricting the care home visas means employers would have to hire internally, lots of spots will also open up. This can be very beneficial if you have upskilled since taking up care / support roles. Have you done your NVQ 3 or 5? Did you go to school for further studies? Did you take advantage of the opportunities in the NHS?

If not interested in HC, did you upskill in your field? Did you make Udemy / YT your best friends or were you making excuses? Roles will open up, did you prepare? Certifications? Were you on TikTok watching DJ Chicken or on Twitter arguing why a Driver's license in the UK is more important than getting your MSc?

"Hidden" somewhere in the whitepaper also is their plans to make global talent visa easier, which makes a lot of sense and is what should have been done since 2023. The requirements for "product led" blah blah makes 0 sense when there are lots of areas you can work that aren't product inclined. Looks like they will make it more accessible like the EB2 / EB1A routes in the US

As seen here - https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6821aec3f16c0654b19060ac/restoring-control-over-the-immigration-system-white-paper.pdf - they wrote they would like to "Increase the number of people arriving on our very high talent routes, alongside faster routes for bringing people to the UK who have the right skills and experience to supercharge UK growth in strategic industries"

At the end of the day, it is up to you and your planning, what you did or didn't do with your time and the foresight you have to plan ahead while weathering the storms of UK immigration wink

2025 Whitepaper -

In 2023, the UK gov published a legal immigration statement in December 2023 -
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6581835023b70a0013234bcd/Legal+Migration+Statement+4th+December+2023+-+Estimated+Volume+Impacts.pdf

An interesting snippet of it reads -

Health and Care (Total): 143,990 main applicants and 173,896 dependants. | An estimated 1.21 dependants per main applicant.

This meant that "the share of Skilled Worker visas going to health and care roles jumped from 58% in 2022 to 75% in 2023" per information here -

https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/press/social-care-sector-continues-to-drive-demand-for-overseas-workers-as-new-data-shows-public-sector-roles-dominate-work-visas/#:~:text=The%20Home%20Office%20granted%20350%2C000,2022%20to%2075%25%20in%202023.

I often use papers like this to make plans for the future as it is based on stats and there are subtle indications of what they plan to do. From the above, they had already started to drive the narrative that health and social care needs to be targeted for a reduction, one of the reasons I was openly against staying in the lower ebbs of a care home at the time and saying people should upskill and rise to managerial roles if they must stay in HC

Do I blame them? No.

As I have earlier said about on this thread, the purpose of opening up the routes was to attract skilled immigrants who will transition from MSc to high paying roles in their field and the gov can make some good money off taxes, settlement fees etc; a "symbiotic" relationship.

The problem however, is that people came in, did their MSc and then went ahead to transition to care roles which are not "skilled roles" and which the UK gov did not expect to happen. You will hardly ever find a white person with MSc in a care role. In actual fact, most of the white guys I have seen in those roles do not have a BSc and I remember mentioning this and being told that "there is dignity in labour" but I guess the UK gov thinks otherwise.
Nigerians in the UK will whine you, na you go use your head.

An excerpt from this link proves this but also leaves some ambiguity on the table - https://www.gov.uk/government/news/immigration-white-paper-to-reduce-migration-and-strengthen-border

"Raising Skilled Worker threshold – SKILLED must mean SKILLED . Lifting the level for skilled workers back to RQF 6 (Graduate level) and above. Salary thresholds will rise."
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by hustla(m): 12:49pm On May 26, 2025
Use the past to predict the future:

I have been in the UK since 2022 and I have always complained on this thread about how immigrant students who contribute to the economy in leaps and bounds have been treated and insulted. Part of this harmful rhetoric, misinformation and disinformation about migrants is what lead to the anti-immigration / race riots of 2024.

Riots where even the Kemi Badenochs and Oga Starmers of this thread and the "I am a British citizen already, the Gov can insult those dirty immigrants" hordes could not go out for fear of being attacked -
https://www.reuters.com/pictures/pictures-anti-immigration-riots-erupt-across-britain-2024-08-05/

The past is often an indicator of the future, and policies of a gov are shaped by the rhetoric it drives in the media. For instance, following the UK leaving the EU, I made a decision to come to the UK based on this post - https://www.gov.uk/government/news/graduate-route-to-open-to-international-students-on-1-july-2021

This is what interested me the most at the time - "The new route will help the government to achieve the ambition set out in the International Education Strategy to increase the number of international students in higher education in the UK to 600,000 by 2030"

This quota was however quickly met and I correctly predicted the future will be equally chaotic as the honeymoon phase was coming to an end. Based on past events, restrictions will now come on immigrants like Pharoah did to Egyptians grin

Been a minute but id like to give my 2 cents on the immigration palava grin

With the immigration brouhaha having died down (for the time being) and having examined facts and analysis with a clear mind bereft of bias, I would like to offer my 2 cents which will be broken down into headings. Links will also be provided for clarity and for confirmation of what is being said where possible

Nigerian students - Facts

Before I go into it, I will like to clear some facts which will be in the form of "questions", some of which I have observed people making funny claims about on this thread in the last few weeks -

1. Was it easier to enter the UK as students? Yes.
2. Was the system exploited? Yes, by both the British gov and students
3. Was it mutually beneficial at the time? Yes
4. Was it necessary to reduce immigration? Yes
5. Will this have harmful effects on UK Universities and student towns? Yes.

According to the white paper here - https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6821aec3f16c0654b19060ac/restoring-control-over-the-immigration-system-white-paper.pdf

"In 2022/23, international students contributed over £12 billion in tuition fees to Higher Education Institutions in the UK and contributed to the UK’s world leading research sector"

6. Is the rhetoric against students / legal immigrants justified? No.

I do believe the gov uses it as a shield to cover up their ineptitude and shift focus from the illegal immigrants they take in and feed/house on the tax payer's dime. They have no idea what to do to stop this as it needs "a measure of violence" to stop

Yes, just like yesterday. I remember how some even reminded us how things were worse during Windrush, so why were we being irrational with our complaints? A lot of false rhetorics with derogatory words in media then, and when you complained here, the defenders of the system would twist and bend the narrative to suit themselves. Unfortunately, it is still the same old story in Ray charles' voice.

See Hustla, I like you but that quote by LL no be am. You mentioned Shogun so I’m sure you know what the Japanese called them; Barbarians and with good reason.

These people erased our history and made slavery our only history. They merged Kingdoms and Towns that had no business living together as a country just so they could feast on our wealth.
We know of the London Bridge and the Great Wall of China but Benin Kingdom had a wall greater than what China built but you’ll hardly hear of it because they erased everything that made us great.

https://amp.theguardian.com/cities/2016/mar/18/story-of-cities-5-benin-city-edo-nigeria-mighty-medieval-capital-lost-without-trace

You as you finish school now, them don release new rules to weaken your chances of getting a job. It’s in their DNA to take and make you look like the demon when they are the true wolves.

Anyway, enjoy Shogun. I go watch Episode 6 this weekend.
