missjekyll: No, they do not have whole communities in the UK on chokehold as the muslims on this thread will be in a better position to tell you.
Nigeria is a different story entirely. Extremism appears to be the default position. If I find another video for you, I know you'll still come up with another excuse |

It's just like Nigerian leaders who enjoyed Awolowo's free education, drank free fresh milk while in UI, went on govt scholarship to Europe and became big men, but ensured the gemerations after them didnt enjoy that privilege. So they charge premium for such services..... As I said, you must pay 2 play....... UK did not force anyone to Pay 2 PLAY........

This was the finding of the independent review into that incident.
1 extremist does not speak for everyone. We ve got millions of moslems in this country who are not extremists. People that have whole communities on choke hold is "1 extremist?" |

All they need do is latch on to a case of extremist violence, ramp up anti-muslim rhetoric and bring it as the solution. They'd say it'd encourage integration and ensure only those who have imbibed 'British values' are allowed to stay. Folks would cheer afterall they made their decision while feeding on salary increase funded by immigration fees. True Sometimes I wonder how they let in people who are now asking for Sharia in their neighborhoods in while constantly insulting students who bring in money and pay taxes Maybe lack of focus |

Let's interpolate this situation...... We should blame our political class, for the mess they have caused, leading to this massive migration and alternative seeking syndrome.......
When labour is not rewarded, labour would shift to alternative places.......
Remember, the UK did not force anyone to migrate.... We decided to pay the price to play......😁
I remember attending college, paying only £20.... Whilst my Chinese colleagues paid over £1500......😂
They happily paid the £1500, because loads of them everywhere........🤔😁 In all your answers you have not answered why UK is the only country that does this... Why they continue to constantly denigrate the student population to their citizens The same people take in asylum seekers in but don't make the same sentiments in the media... All you have said is "chest the insults, na you come here, Them no force you". Lexus, if you pay someone £15K and na insults them dey insult you for every month for 2 years, you go happy? After 2 years, you pay £3K despite not being balanced yet, they respond to you with dirty slap and insults, you go happy? Let's call a spade a spade abeg |

Zahra29: Sinister in what way? Strict perhaps, but also justifiable unless you expect the government to continue to turn a blind eye to unsustainable levels of migration coupled with rampant immigration abuse in certain sectors.
Sinister is what I would call the African and Asian care operators/agencies/brokers who were charging up to £15,000 for a sponsorship certificate that they obtained for less than £300 from the government. Bringing thousands in and having no work to give them (despite so called shortages in the care sector). Sinister are the agents who were attaching fake spouses onto their clients' applications without their knowledge. (Yes I've heard of instances where this has happened), and many other examples. I'm not sure why people are not directing their frustration towards these individuals.
The government isn't boxing anyone into care, in fact the recent policies are designed to restrict the number of immigrants going into care.
The landscape will settle for sure, but gone are the days of "buy 1 cos, get 2 free". Again, I do not care about what they do to the care sector, COS sellers and fake dependents (sellers and fake ones will be found out), I am concerned about the long term policy effects on would be settlers. And No, the policies arent designed to reduce those heading to care depending on how you look at it, it's designed to edge people in care towards filling holes in the NHS. Ask yourself why the UK is the only ome that has these policies in place. Policies like increasing fees to £3K for apps for recent graduates after paying £15K is sinister and wicked. Openly bashing the student populace and treating them like scavengers and scroungers for applause from your citizens is sinister. Increasing rates to £38K when the average salary for even citizens isnt up to that is sinister and wicked. Once more, the UK is the only country among the developed ones that does this. E get why Meanwhile this was yesterday https://www.theguardian.com/education/2024/mar/12/overseas-students-undermining-uk-higher-education-warns-cleverly |

jedisco: Ultimately, macroeconomics policies play a much more significant role in attainment than individual grit e.t.c. Finally, those who remain would still become Brits and have all the welfare options available. They also have their mental health to look after, can go on professional longterm sick and with little wealth might ultimately need to depend on the state in old age.
Wouldn't surprise me the next move would be to increase ILR time to 10 years - milk the cow. More folks paying visa fees e.t.c
So far, we've not seen any forward planning from the government. Just knee-jerk reactions when quarterly migration data is released. Only severe shortages e.g HGV drivers or systemic issues e.g with universities would force their hand. Right now, focus is the lost election. Well, focus is truly the elections.. I think they'll still win anyways. I'm also do think they'll likely increase the years required to get ILR (which will backfire). Remains to be seen if the policies they have changed Will be reverted but i doubt though given that the public will see them as unreliable and not to be trusted Time will tell |

Lexusgs430: Why are you always thinking about the money......... What happened to the love and caring for the vulnerable, in our society........😜😂
Remember, money is not everything.........😁 By all means, care for the vulnerable, but it should be done out of love (Rita Dominic spoke about doing this recently) and not as a last resort or because the government makes policies to deliberately edge every Tom, Dick, and Harry towards caring for them. I did not just mention money; I mentioned other factors that will affect the family and upward mobility in the future. I am certain that 99% of Nigerians, if given the global talent visa or ILR from day 1, would not opt for care (I AM NOT SAYING CARE IS NOT GOOD OOOOO FOR THE CARE BRIGADE AND ARMY BEFORE UNA ATTACK ME) |

I guess if the situation were flipped, say, a national of another country does something bad, would it be okay to address a white-skinned person as Nigerian even after spending many years or after granting the person a citizenship? jedisco: Many masters students OTOH are pretty much shafted as a good number came with family and jobs paying 38k are not very easy to come by. For many, it's either they go into care (meaning part of the family returns home) or they start looking elsewhere e.g Canada Will be interesting to see in the next few months. I have searched and searched and this is the only country boxing immigrants into living a life on minimum wage. The effects in the next 7 - 10 years will be insane as most migrants will be stuck at the lower end of society and representation at the upper ends will be further limited (that is where I want to see fellow Nigerians) The good thing though is that the £38K thing does not affect those who have just graduated but I see a sizable number of Nigerian students leaving the UK (a lot have left already or are planning to leave) as most of the policies are downright sinister and meant to restrict your upwards mobility. That is exactly why I am always against the care thing or staying too long in it, as I see it as a carefully crafted way to push you into being lower class all your life, which will likely affect your kids too unless careful planning is put in place. Long hours away from family, low pay, and interactions with mostly low-class white people who are all out to drag you to their level, eventually it gets to you and your kids by extension. I expect things to free up a bit within 1 yr and changes to be made, maybe a bit more stability |

No need for this.... you're killing the positive vibes and celebration..
Care work is legal work... it is a way to pay the never-ending bills.. it is a path to come into the UK.. it can also be a temporary phase to other greater career paths .... it can also be a career path people are passionate about .... make we dey chill sometimes
We don't need this tbh OK |

@jedisco
I think the only way to attract locals to take up care work is to increase the minimum wage in that sector and maybe decrease taxes or give some additional incentives (I doubt that will happen though)
I know there will be cries about shortages within 1 yr though.
Make we dey observe |

lightofjoy: Along the line, an agent from an online jobsite categorically call me and told me that since I don't have UK experience, I should come down on my salary expectation and come to something like 35K or 40K but with my 16 years professional experiences and my experience in my last job in Nigeria, I was determined to go for the best. Also, from this forum, there were advices by some of our people that said you should go for the salary range you want and someone even said here that don't apply for salary range you don't want. Before I forget, I graduated with distinction when my result came out in February (All Glory to God). All these encourage me to go for what I want, I was applying for as many as I could in my desired salary range and later within the last two weeks of interview I got a job of over 60K with hybrid working and a lot of benefits. I am so grateful to God for His mercies and to this forum for all the precious advises. Am grateful.
I decided to write this long epistle as this might encourage someone in this group that it will always get better. Thank you once again. Please pardon me for any typo. Congrats bro!
