Soldiers attached to a check point at Akoda Junction near Osogbo in Osun State on Friday arrested ‪#‎nine‬ men with a truck conveying election materials.

The Brigade Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Osilogbo, Brig.- Gen. Aliyu Momoh, who spoke with journalists on the incident, said his men at a checkpoint stopped the men who could not provide satisfactory answers to questions posed to them by the soldiers.

Those arrested with the Mercedes Benz truck marked Lagos APP 952 XL are Olufemi Ose, Segun Akanbi and Biodun Erinfolami.

The vehicle bears the inscription of Adewole F Odunayo Enterprises on its sides. Materials found in the vehicle included ballot papers, rubber stamps, ink pads, reflective jackets bearing the Independent National Electoral Commission among others.

The rubber stamps and ink pads bore 2015, but some of the ballot papers bore 2015 election. Gen. Momoh, who warned against any attempt to cause trouble in the state, said his men were not in the state to harass or molest anybody, He added “We are not here to intimidate or harass anybody, but we want to sound a note of warning that whoever thinks he can cause trouble will be dealt with severely.

One of the arrested men, Olufemi Ose, said he was contacted by somebody in Lagos to help convey beans to Osogbo and that it was there that another person asked him to come over to Boripe to come and help him convey some waste items. “We got here yesterday and a vehicle was loaded before ours started loading in the early hours of Thursday.”

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rochas Okorocha, Mr. Okechukwu Okorocha, for illegally being in possession of arms.
Briefing newsmen at the State Police Command Headquarters in Owerri on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, said Okorocha was arrested after operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, who were acting on a tip-off, conducted a cordon-and-search operation at his residence on Friday and recovered three pump action automatic rifles with 24 live cartridges and a Kenwood walkie-talkie.
He said the command had received information that some top government functionaries were stockpiling arms with the intention to disrupt the general elections in Imo State.
The police spokesman noted that Okorocha had acted contrary to an instruction from the police to all residents, particularly members of the State Vigilante Service, to surrender all the arms and other dangerous weapons in their possession before the general elections.
“We have been announcing that the vigilance group will not be part of the security beef up at the polling centres during the elections. As a result, we have been warning them to return the prohibited firearms in their possession to the Divisional Police Officers nearest to them,” Enwerem said.
In a similar operation by the State CID in Owerri, three automatic pump action rifles with 14 live cartridges were found in the security post of Ebuada Housing Estate in the city.
In the process of recovering the weapons, Kelechi Onuoha, Chigozie Uzowuru, Osita Obiako and Linus Aka were also arrested.
“It is believed that these arms were going to be used to disrupt the coming elections. The arrested suspects are currently in the custody of the police and they are undergoing interrogation. This is what we have done in preparation to ensure that there is a peaceful, credible, free and fair elections in Imo State,” the PPRO said.

The teachers in osun public school have used the most part of the term engaging in sit-down strike due to the unpaid salaries and non remission of the deducted pensions to necessary organs by the state government, which prompt most parents who can afford private schools to transfer their wards there. In his usual manner the governor have been jumping and running around with the state allocation for his party presidential campaign a few years after awarding the opon imo tablet which was never produced with millions of naira.
Osun student most especially the 2015 WASSCE candidate have been at the receiving end with some days to the examination proper and shortage of funds with no preparation by the state government, sources learnt that the governor have directed all principals in osun public schools to find means for the practical material without collecting from the students. One wonder where the governor expects the principal to get the funds from, though urgent steps needed in order to avoid mass failure from the students who have not gain due to the basterdized education system by the osun government.
