Truck loads of food stuff donated to workers and other categories of people in Osun State by the Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Dr. David Oyedepo, have arrived in the state for distribution. The State Pastor of the LFCW, Olumuyiwa Emmanuel, announced the arrival of the food aid on Wednesday during the mid-week service of the church in Osogbo, the state capital. The cleric said the bishop donated the food items which included rice, vegetable oil, tomato pastes and others for distribution to church members and other residents of the state who were experiencing lack. He stated that the food would be distributed at the church premises on Sunday (tomorrow) after service. Civil servants, retirees and other categories of workers in the state are being owed several months. Emmanuel said, “I am happy to announce to you that trailer load of rice, vegetable oil, tomato and other things sent by the bishop have arrived. The distribution will be done on Sunday. “Invite your friends and neighbours, Christians and non Christians; everybody will be taken care of. We are blessed to be a blessing unto others. Bring people who need the food, young and old, all of them will be catered for. We have more than enough for everybody.” Oyedepo, speaking in Omu-Aran, Kwara State on Friday during the second convocation ceremony of Landmark University, decried the inability of Nigeria to achieve national food security. He said Nigeria should emulate China, India, and Malaysia that all recorded salutary economic transformation as result of their successful agricultural revolution. According to him, the three countries first conquered hunger before they moved to high tech industrial revolution. http://www.punchng.com/news/oyedepo-sends-food-aid-to-osun-advises-govt/ |

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia has dismissed the petition filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last election, Chinenye Anyim, against the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and governor of Abia state, Okezie Ikpeazu, for negligence in prosecution on the part of the petitioners. Counsels to the respondents to the petition, including Mr. Ikpeazu , the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had told the tribunal that neither the petitioner nor their counsels were in court even as there was no letter from either explaining their absence. Citing relevant provisions of the electoral act, Livy Uzoukwu, the INEC counsel prayed the tribunal to apply the mandatory provisions of the relevant section of the law which he said mandated the tribunal to dismiss the petition because the petitioners failed to appear for the matter. In his contribution, the counsel to PDP, Henry Balogu, observed that the petitioners and their counsels were in court on the last day of the adjournment and were quite aware of the day’s sitting but deliberately chose not to be in court and urged the tribunal to strike out the matter. Also, counsel to the fifth and sixth respondents, Mike Onyeka, urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition since it was clear that the petitioners had lost interest in the matter. The Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Usman Bwala, while dismissing the petition, cited relevant sections of the Electoral Act which he said the petitioner failed to comply with in the prosecution of the matter. |
Fresh crisis is brewing between labour unions and the Osun State Government following the rejection of the 50 per cent of salaries paid by the government into workers’ accounts. The workers had on Monday announced the suspension of the strike they embarked upon since May 26 after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government. But the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, Mr. Jacob Adekomi, while addressing journalists on Tuesday said, “We are rejecting the payment of half salaries because that was not what we agreed on. All affiliate unions of the labour will meet later today ( Tuesday) to deliberate on the issue. But those that have not been paid at all can remain at home.” Also, some local government workers told our correspondent around 2pm on Tuesday that they had yet to receive alert from their banks. But the All Progressives Congress in the state has appealed to workers to show understanding with the government, saying the balance of their salaries would be paid very soon. The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC in Osun State, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, who addressed journalists, said the payment of 50 per cent of the salaries was inadvertently done. “The 50 per cent was already programmed. That was done before the Memorandum of Understanding was signed with workers. “Unfortunately, it is a communication gap. There was no intention to pay the half salary and the payment will not stop at the payment of 50 per cent. Government will pay all. “We are appealing to the workers to show understanding with the government. Their salaries will be paid in full. It will be implemented soonest.” The APC’s spokesperson had in a statement earlier rallied the workers’ support for the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, saying the workers should continue to support the governor in his efforts to transform the state. He explained that the non-payment of the salaries was caused by corruption in the oil sector during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. The statement partly read, “It was, therefore, totally misplaced anger that was directed at Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for the crisis. Those who sponsored and propagated the misplaced anger did so out of envy that Aregbesola was raising Osun above their ignoble pedestal of impoverished ideas.” “Now that it is an open secret that the PDP government led by Goodluck Jonathan was the thief that stole the nation broke; we call for greater understanding from both the labour union and the workers to help the state address the aftermath of this PDP crime against our country.” http://www.punchng.com/news/osun-workers-reject-half-salaries/ Lalatisclala Jo maa dull me lalatisclala this post make everyone see d kind of skoro wey dey play UCL on top my gov head |

All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of desecrating the tomb of a late Deputy Governor, Funmilayo Olayinka. Olayinka served as deputy to former Governor Kayode Fayemi between October 16, 2010 and April 6, 2013, when she died of cancer. In a statement by the APC Chairman for Ado Ekiti Local Government, Mr. D.O Adigun, the party expressed reservation that Fayose is “building a women centre within the confine of the park and almost right on the tomb.” “To us this is a disservice and deliberate extreme partisanship to fight and dishonor Moremi even in death. There are lots of open and undesignated spaces across the state capital that could be used for the so called women centre,” the party added. But reacting, Fayose through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said building a four storey edifice (Women Development Centre) in front of the late deputy governor’s tomb could not amount to desecration. “The more the APC spew out errant nonsense as they have been doing, the more the party is hated by Ekiti people, who overwhelmingly made Fayose their governor.” Olayinka explained that the Women Development Centre, being built in honour of Olayinka, would serve as location for addressing issues relating to women in the State. “To Governor Fayose, dumping the late deputy governor’s corpse in an open space with no benefit to the people is not enough. Rather, while the tomb remains where it is, the government has deemed it necessary to put up an edifice in front of the tomb in her honour and for the benefit of women in the State. “If the APC people in the state are seeing that as desecration of her tomb, something needs to be done to their reasoning faculty urgently,” Olayinka added. http://www.punchng.com/news/apc-fayose-disagree-over-ex-deputy-govs-tomb/ |
