Education / Obafemi Awolowo University Management Shuts Down School Again by Iamdagreatguy(m): 9:19pm On Jul 12, 2015
B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G: OAU Management Declares Closure of School

The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State has announced the closure of the institution over the unresolved crisis between the management and members of the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU).

Contrary to his earlier assurance to the students of the school that the university management has no plan to close down the institution, the university Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olanrewaju Abiodun said the management has declared a 'mid-semester' break and students have been asked to vacate the university tomorrow, Monday.

The university spokesperson, however, said the closure of the institution is not related to the ongoing NASU protest in OAU.

Earlier, the Students' Union had threatened to shut down the school if the management refuses to agree with NASU before Monday.

Mr. Olanrewaju said "The duration of the break will be communicated in due course".

Education / Obafemi Awolowo University Students' Remembers Afrika And Others by Iamdagreatguy(m): 3:00pm On Jul 10, 2015
July 10, 1999: the day devil drank blood on OAU campus!
Forty-two days after President Olusegun Obasanjo was
sworn in, five students - 21 year old George Akinyemi
Iwilade (Afrika), Yemi Ajiteru, Ekede Efe, Eviano Ekelemu,
Babatunde Oke - were murdered by suspected cultists led
by one Efosa of the Confraternity from the
University of Benin in an attack believed to have been
sponsored by the then VC, Prof. Wale Omole.

The then Students' Union president, Lanre Adeleke was said to have escaped being killed by jumping from the third floor of Block 8 of the Obafemi Awolowo Hall where his room was but the Secretary General, Afrika, was unlucky as he was matcheted to death in his room 281.

Their offence was that they were against anti-student
policies of the management which included astronomical
increase in tuition fee and poor welfare conditions. Great Ife responded by mobilising heavily to arrest the perpetrators. They were forced to hand them over to the Police but unfortunately, sixteen years after, those who killed the Iwo, Osun State, born 400 law student and four others their killers are yet to be booked.

That OAU basks in the euphoria of being Africa's most
peaceful campus is not due to the magnanimity of the
management, it is the consciousness of the 'ever-tatan'
Great Ife to stand against anti-social behaviour.

For the whole duration of my degree, I lived on campus. Till
now, if there is no night on campus; you walk and work any
time you want. Nobody can intimidate or harass you except
you decide to keep silent. All what you need do is to popularize the case by shouting on top of your voice.
Passers-by would wait and before you know it, the shout of
"Awo cafe" will rent the air. Awo cafe is our court where
submissions would be heard on the matter...

As Great Ife all over the world, both living and dead, remember those who laid down their lives for the peace we
enjoyed and the current members of OAU community enjoy,
may their killers never know peace anywhere they are and
may the wrath of God descend on them.

Afrika wa da (where is our Afrika?)
Ao ri (He is no where to be found)
Ni 'bo l'olo... (where has he gone to)
Rest in peace, OAU martyrs....

The political symposium is already ongoing in Amphi Theatre OAU,,to be followed by candlelight procession and bonfire this night at Anglomoz carpack.

All the threads I've been seeing on religion section today! People have turned Christianity into doctrines and more doctrines. Op, how is it wrong? If it's because of the alcohol, remember the bible never condemned taking of alcohol, but taking it too much to the extent of getting intoxicated is when its wrong. All things should be done in moderation.

Don't u think one might be tempted to take alcohol when one works in an alcoholic environment

Please I am so confused. I have been in a serious relationship with this my fiancee for the past four years, and although I know she forgets things, but I just see it as a normal thing.

That was until she came to spend a week with me. She forgot almost everything and if I ask her "can't u remember?" she will reply me with "you know I forget things easily".

Please Nairalanders, I need your advice because we will soon be planning our introduction. Should I continue or what can I do?

If you call the police or a lawyer, you will spend money.

Exactly my thought, I dnt have money to spend in seeking the service of a lawyer, and the police is a no go area, we all know Nigerian policy, after small tip from him, they will release him. Yes he seized some of my properties, am thinking of reporting him to our school DSA.

Legally speaking bro.
The landlord in this case has gone extra mile, nt informing you and even if he informed you, there is a limit to the time u can be ejected after notice...
A legal maxim says 'domnus sua cisque est tutissimum refugum'. Which means To each man his house is the safest refugee. The import of this maxim is that a man oughtn't be harrassed in his 'personal house'.... In the case of R v. Hussay, a tenant was justified to have shot his landlord who tried to forcefully eject him after a quit notice which has not lapsed....
I submit that you can proceed.. Pls take it up in a court of law, and tell ur lawyer to plead damages.....

Thnx for that bro, even the principle of 'Nemo ludex in casua sua' which means you can never be a judge in your own case forbid the landlord to break my door without every necessary legal backing.
Well as it stands now, I don't have a lawyer, and am presently not in Ife since they've postpone our resumption date, so their is no way I can follow up the case. Am just confused as to what to do.
Education / My Landlord in School Threatened Me by Iamdagreatguy(m): 9:46am On May 01, 2015
And so it happened yesterday, I went to school after receiving a call from one of my neighbors that my landlord broke my door and moved out my properties outside and some valuable items like television set, fridge, gas cooker, generator, my suits nd so on to an undisclosed place.

I put a call through to the man to confirm maybe it's true and the reason behind the act, of which he replied me boasting that yes and there is nothing I can do to it to challenge him. That he lease the room to the highest bidder.

This is my third year in the house, and as a sitting tenant, he didn't inform me of any increment, in fact am on I.T(Industrial Training) since January and am observing it in Ibadan, my school is OAU in Ife. The last time we met(early April), I collected his account number and promised to renew my rent, but unfortunately, I misplaced the phone I saved the account number. Due to that, since our resumption date supposed to be 3rd of may before the postponement till 31st, my plan was that I'll go to Ife this weekend to give him the money.

I went to Ife to challenged him, on getting there, during the argument at the point I told him that under law no landlord or agent is allowed to break into tenants house or room in absentia, that the offense is punishable, that am going to order for his arrest, the next statement from his mouth is that if I should go further with the threat his children not me won't last for 7days.

My fellow nairalanders, am confused as to the decision to take, don't know maybe to leave him for God to judge, (cos am now in my finals) or to proceed and arrest him. Though am back in Ibadan. The man is one of this cherubim pastor and it seems he's fetishes. My valuables are still with him.

Politics / An Open Letter To Gov. Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi. by Iamdagreatguy(m): 1:56pm On Apr 18, 2015
Sir, I shall first start by congratulating you on your victory in the just concluded elections as you mount the magnanimous seat of governorship which graciously grants you the 2nd term opportunity to serve the great people of Oyo State.

The purpose of this letter is to serve as an eye opener to certain issues of cogency. Even when it seemed like you might not win the just concluded election, myself alongside some friends of mine who apparently happen to be die hard fans of yours and who strongly believe in you and against all odds worked tirelessly to ensure your success at the polling booths. Though we did that out of personal convictions and the developments we could see , which are part of your numerous achievements.

However, our parents who are pensioners and civil servants instructed us not to support you, telling us that you deceived them to have paid their pension, yet we decided to give you a benefit of doubt.

We supported you also to the detriment of one of your opponents who gave us the first bursary we ever received as indigenes of Oyo state, which has never occurred in about five years of our stay in tertiary institution of which our colleagues from sister states in the southwest collect bursary(e.g, Ekiti, Ondo,Ogun), yet we still ignored that and blindly supported you.

Convincing people that we didn't receive a dime from any APC stalwarts was an herculean task. Even up till now, we still have people who still don't believe us.

Though in church, our pastor advised us against supporting you,as a member of our church was contesting. Yet, we ignored his advise and went ahead to support and even vote for you.

Though the water corporation you repaired couldn't supply water to our houses due to so many bursted pipes on the highways in which whenever the water corporation decides to provide water for us, they mess up the streets like it just rained, yet, we still campaigned and canvassed for you.

Sir, you have tried in so many areas of governance and judging from my own assessment and discretion, as well as the record from history, you are the best governor ever in Oyo state (Kudos to you on this). Peace which has departed Oyo state systematically returned during your tenure. The Restoration bridge at Awolowo Bodija of which before the construction, a lot of people lost their lives (especially during the raining season in 2011); the overhead bridge at Mokola; the magic you performed at Iwo-road (which was once rowdy,"jampacked" area with miscreant thugs and touts and never a safer place suddenly became safe; The greens in Oyo state; Ajumose bus; renovation and construction of new school buildings; the lifting of two satellite campus of polytechnic Ibadan, the one in Saki to the status of Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Eruwa to Ibarapa polytechnic; dualization of major roads in Oyo state; and lots more,to mention but a few.

Sir, with all due respect,I urge you to forgive the civil servants who voted against you. I want you to know that we, who are their children worked assiduously for you. If you decide to hoard their salaries, we are the ones who will be at the receiving end ( just like when two horses are fighting, the grass is always the one that suffers).

Also, the Pensioners are aged people who have served the state in various capacities. For rest is supposed to be sweet after labour. Therefore, they need money for their upkeep as well as their families'. Sir, I kindly urge you to please pay them, release their pension funds and gratuity. We who are their children are really suffering.

Also Sir, the rate at which "okada" accidents occur on a daily basis is quite alarming, the gory sight is usually ghastly and hospitals are usually very reluctant to give victims of "Okada" accidents quick attention. In my own opinion sir, I think "okadas" should be banned from some major highways, but please sir don't ban them without providing alternative work for them. Create job for them or make provision for tricycle for them at a subsidized hire purchase rate.

Sir, pls kindly look into the following issues: The drivers and conductors of Ajumose buses need serious training on their behaviours and on how to manage their temperaments. They are more or less like garage touts who believe they can address people anyhow.

Also, our streets and highways need to be illuminated with street lights at night.

Finally sir, please kindly look into the issue of bursary, we need this stipends from government to make life easier for us in school, since education is no more free in Nigeria.

I know and I'm happy that you're a loving and caring father, a mentor and performer who will definitely yearn to the cry of his people, and I have this personal conviction that this letter will get to you and you will act fast on all that have been stated above.

Thanks in anticipation for your action sir.

Once again congratulations on your victory, which invariably is our victory.
