"The insurance scheme would come in handy for practitioners who cannot afford medical expenses and prevent them from seeking assistance in an embarrassing manner.”

I don't know why this is funny to me. Ok, Mr Buhari forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing. But it would have been fair if the students will in one way or the other also be compensated.
EducationASUU Awaits Buhari On No-work-no-pay, Holds NEC Meeting. by IamDietiesGod(op): 8:42am On Oct 12, 2022
The Academic Staff Union of Universities is still awaiting the decision of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on the no-work-no-pay rule invoked by the Federal Government since its strike began eight months ago, The PUNCH has learnt.

Our correspondent learnt that the President’s decision on the matter is key to a decision the union will take on whether to call off the strike or continue.

It was further learnt that only the President can grant the waiver for the arrears of the striking lecturers to be paid.

“The issue of the no-work-no-pay has not been resolved yet. We are still waiting for Mr President,” a source, who does not want his name in print because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, told The PUNCH.

Also speaking to our correspondent, another source said, “It is only the President who can give that waiver at the moment. He has to forgive them. He is very hurt that they caused a delay for students.”

Meanwhile, branches of ASUU will begin consultations on Wednesday (today) over the possibility of calling off the strike.

Our correspondent also gathered that the union’s National Executive Council will meet on the matter on Thursday.

Confirming the development, the National President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, noted that the union would meet.

He, however, did not disclose the date and the place where the meeting would take place.

“Yes, we will meet and take our decision,” Osodeke simply said.

ASUU had on Monday, February 14, 2022, embarked on a strike over what the union described as the failure of the government to meet its demands.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, after what he described as “failed negotiations” dragged the striking lecturers before the National Industrial Court.

The court, on September 21, ordered ASUU to call off the strike.

The Court of Appeal also handed down a similar order last week.

EducationRe: ASUU To Hold Emergency Meeting On Thursday. Strike To Be Likely Called Off by IamDietiesGod:
elitper:
Your ignorance is extraordinarily deep, but you cover it with the way you speak with so much assurance. Now, this is the way ASUU runs: the president lacks the power to declare a strike or call it off. Only members do so with their votes from the branch congresses. By the time Ngige dragged the Union to NIC, the outcome and further reactions had been predicted and members were ready to go on till next year. You should be a little intelligent enough that those who did 8months without pay have already adjusted. With the appeal court ruling, the consensus among members is to resume without teaching and wait for proscription of the union. After that, a mass sack of all the members. And that is where the government reaches a dead end. Or do you fancy in your childish brain that you can hire about 30000 academics (with about a third of them professors) as you do political thugs? Well, let me point you to history. Gowon and Babangida tried exactly this and failed. I have decided not to talk about the well-advertised merits of ASUU’s struggle because you sound utterly ineducable, but let this resonate in your brain pan if it’s still of any use: ASUU is on a national assignment to save the tertiary education sector from an anti-intellectual president.
Let me starts by using your nominal against you, "your ignorance is a bliss".

To you dumbo, I don't know anything about ASSU supposed struggle and how they operate?. Why is it that anyone that has a critical view on a topic always accused of siding a particular party.

Ok, where exactly did I say ASSU president won't consult his cohort before before making the final decision.

The reason why I said the "emergency meeting" is like play to the gallery is because I am very certain that members, at least most will vote for the suspension of the strike as the deal given to them is the best they could get from the narcissistic government.

And I also said "emergency meeting" is a play to the gallery because of the way " emergency meeting" is used. It was use like they could eventually decide not to accept the offer if they are not okay with it which I am not seeing happening.

And one thing you should allow to sink in that your dead brain son if it can actually process is that not every lecturers is happy with this strike and not all of them was in support of it when it was declared indefinite and I can tell you for free that not everyone are finding the strike funny if that what you meant by Adjusted.

This is a critical discourse queef, and if you're actually following with an active brain you would know that this government has never said they will probcribe ASSU. All the mention of probcribing ASUU are just propaganda by some people and the media. All the mention of audit not submitted, taking you to court and winning the case consecutively, licensing CONUA are just to spite ASSU to shift ground and wether you admit it or not it actually works.

The fact remains that if and only if the government want to sack academics, which I know the government won't do as they are cunning and smarter than you could ever be, some to say the least won't wait stupidily to be sacked.

While I admit to some extent, the sincerity of ASSU struggle and If actually you are with a functional brain, you will decipher that ASUU is also helping FG in destroying public University education with the incessant strikes even when ASUU knows that FG are not feeling the heat of the strike but still continue. "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Albert Einstein's.

Last and probably not the least to you nitwit is that you should learn how to read with an open mindedness, don't always allow your infatuation for something or someone block your sense of reasoning if actually you have one.

Bring it on.

EducationRe: ASUU Strike: Fgn Needs To Compensate All Affected Students by IamDietiesGod:
I know it will come to this, I know FG will eventually pay them. The withholdment of those salaries is just a gimmick strategised by FG to persuade and to entice ASUU with what they will eventually offers them (That's politics played there). Not that FG even cares about you the students:

Please what's the usefulness of NANS?, I guess they are just dog that only bark for the highest bidder.

Students, I propose you tussle this out with the FG by staging a peaceful protest. Only you can fight for yourselves, other than that, you can only count your loss and move on.

The most ludicrous thing about this ASSU is that what they refused to accept some month ago are what they are settling for.

Firstly, remove the use of that adverb "likely" that only give probability and not certainty because they "will" , that's certainty, they don't have a choice or an option.

Secondly, the emergency is just a show or play to gallery, the matter has already been decided. Who is deceiving who.

Thirdly, the witholding of salaries during the strike has been a gimmick and an envisaged strategy to bring ASUU on their knees. See how it was listed like it is a kind of gift, blessings, something new or kind of fresh and a favor. Although it can be counted as favor as per they didn't fully worked for it.

Fourthly, how is this deal different from what they have always being PROMISED but always refused.

Fifth, it safe to say they just rubished and wasted the students' time, resources, and mental stability.

Conclusively, as FG run ASUU street, Both ASUU and FG run the students wayo. Which brings me to this question, what is the usefulness of docile and toothless (dog) NANS?.

Lastly, my condolence goes to students and their parents. May ASUU and FG never happened to u guys again.

Justimi

Most of these Universities lecturers especially those in public ones are power intoxicated, narcissistic , egoistic and sadistic. They feel the world will always revolve around them.

Just imagine as the lecturers have been on strike for more than seven months, sabotage the academic and some minor economic activities. Students should then also try to express that right in school by staging just a protest against school management for one thing or the other like poor warfare in school hostels. We all know what will eventually ends that.

FG and ASSU are two useless motherfuckers.

"Osodeke noted that the union believed that intervention of the house is genuine and can be trusted"

grin Imagine the trust that ASSU didn't not have for FG and House has suddenly germinated.

What ASSU refused to agreed to some month ago is now what they are resorting to or settling for (promises). According to this report, I cannot see most of the demands that this union insisted on. For example the use of UTAS has not been implemented and I don't think it will ever be implemented. Their 100 percent increments is obviously a fallacy. It is safe to say they are accepting and signing what Buhari has to offer.

And for FG, I feel they will pay them all that salaries they didn't work for. I just pray my feeling is wrong.

Well, Let's wait for what Buhari will have to say tomorrow.

But those Dumbos (FG and ASSU) careless about the students and their parents. Students are just means to their egoistic ends.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has expressed optimism that the lingering lecturers’ strike would soon end, saying they see “light at the end of the tunnel.”

The fallout of the back-and-forth negotiations with the Federal Government has seen universities shut across the countries since February.

However, at a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, said: “For the first time, we have seen light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Speaker had hinted at the meeting that the long-running strike embarked upon by ASUU will be over “in matter of days.”

Gbajabiamila stated this while briefing the leadership of ASUU about his meetings with the President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.

Earlier, human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, who is ASUU’s counsel, also stated that soon the nearly eight-month strike would be called off.

Falana said this at the launch of a book, ‘Breaking Coconut With Your Head’ by Lanre Arogundade on Monday in Lagos.

He hinted that the industrial action will be concluded outside the courtroom in his reaction to the appellate court’s order that the public universities’ lecturers should return to classrooms.

The Federal Government and ASUU have been at loggerheads over demands of proper funding of the university educational system to global standards, since February 14.
