Senator George Akume representing Zone A in Benue State is about to distribute branded shoes and slippers to his constituents as he campaigns for next year's elections.

The vehicles were spotted with the branded materials over the weekend in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

Akume is an APC senator but we noticed that his branded vehicles, shoes and slippers are partyless.

We hope he is not thinking of dumping the APC too?

Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom today November 1st declared the prohibition of open grazing in Benue state.

Here is a full text of a broadcast by the governor;

Fellow Nigerians and Benue citizens.

Today, first November, 2017, marks the beginning of the prohibition of open grazing in Benue State. I call on all citizens residing in Benue State who are into cattle or livestock business to abide by this law.

There is no more open grazing in Benue State. All those who are interested in doing livestock business must ranch their livestock, otherwise the law will catch up with them. Let me appeal to all citizens to be law abiding.

No one should take laws into his hands. We have put in place adequate machinery to enforce the law.
Where there are trespasses or infringements of the law, report to the appropriate quarters and it will be duly handled by the team put in place. I want to appeal to all of us to be law abiding.

The law seeks to protect farmers and herdsmen alike. The law seeks to ensure peace for all citizens. The law is not targeted at any individual or group of people or any ethnic group.

All of us must team together and work to ensure the success of this law.

We have suffered hardship, we have suffered pains, we have suffered sorrow. We have lost so much from both sides and we cannot allow this to continue as leaders with the responsibility of providing security for lives and property.

I want all citizens to join hands with Government to ensure that we adopt this method of ranching which is the global best practice for all those in livestock business all over the world.

The Presidency has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent comment on the Biafran agitation is his opinion.

Obasanjo was reported on Friday to have advised Buhari to invite IPOB leaders for negotiations.

When asked on Saturday if Buhari would heed Obasanjo’s advice, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said Obasanjo’s comment was not a law or a rule.

He said, “It is an opinion that he has proffered and when you proffer an opinion, it is not a law or a rule. It is now left for the person who was given the advice to consider it.”

The Director-General, Kogi State Bureau of Information and Grassroots Mobilisation, Alhaji Abdulmalik Abdulkareem, says the Kogi state government has blamed the discovery of N145 million fraud in the salary voucher of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, for the delay in the payment of July salary of its workers.


The government’s statement was in response to the threat by the institution’s Academic staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) to embark on an indefinite strike over non-payment of July salary of its members.

“Kogi State Government affirmed that the discovery of N145 million fraud in the salary vouchers was responsible for the delay in payment of the July salary. This is based on facts obtained from the office of Auditor -General of Kogi State".

The ASUP had threatened to direct its members to embark on strike if the July salary of its members was not paid by September 11. Andulmalik faulted the position of ASUP and other unions in the polytechnic, saying that the delay in payment of their July salary was self-inflicted.

He alleged that some staff of the polytechnic bloated the salary vouchers to defraud the state government of N145 million. According to him, the salary was delayed to give room for a thorough investigation into the alleged fraud. The director-general said the state government had recovered N145m from the bloated wage bills.

Due to the several reports on social media that the Nigerian Army earlier today invaded, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu home and injured one of his supporters, A press statement released by Major Oyegoke Gbadamosi, Assistant Director Army Public Relations explains it all.


He said;

The attention of 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, has been drawn to fictitious news going round especially on the social media that troops have invaded the home of Nnamdi Kanu and killed 3 persons.

This is far from the truth. Rather, it was a group of suspected IPOB militants that blocked the road against troops of 145 Battalion while on show of force along FMC-Word Bank Road in Umuahia town, Abia State at about 6.00-6.30pm, today. They insisted that the military vehicles would not pass and started pelting the soldiers with stones and broken bottles to the point of injuring an innocent female passerby and a soldier, Corporal Kolawole Mathew.

The troops fired warning shots in the air and the hoodlooms dispersed. No life was lost.

Therefore the public are kindly enjoined to disregard the rumours going round and the fictitious photographs of purported victims of attack. Both the soldier and the innocent female passerby have been evacuated to the unit's Medical Inspection Room and are receiving treatment.

We would like to use this opportunity to warn mischief makers threatening the peace and security of the country through falsehood such as above.

Members of the public are please requested to go about their lawful business and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or security outfit.

Operatives of the Lagos State Task Force says it will on Monday commence full operations against all motorists engaging in illegal commercial activities under the Ojuelegba and Ikeja Bridges.

The task force chairman, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, said that full enforcement of the operations would commence after the expiration of a 48-hour quit notice served on the affected people by the agency.

“All these illegal motorists engaging in commercial activities around Ojuelegba and Ikeja by Ipodo Market, Awolowo Way have been served a ‘Quit Notice’ on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 to vacate under the bridges immediately.

“Activities of these illegal motor parks are contributing to the traffic gridlock across the state.

“No responsible and responsive government will tolerate criminal activities being carried out by hoodlums and miscreants around these illegal parks,” Egbeyemi said in a statement signed by Mr Adebayo Taofeek, Head and Public Affairs Unit.

Egbeyemi said that the operation was to clean up the dark spots, advising motorists engaging in these illegal commercial activities to comply with the directive immediately by removing their buses.

He warned that anybody caught obstructing the operations would be severely dealt with in accordance with the law.

New Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgar Imohimi says he is ready to dine with the devil with a long spoon to ensure that Lagosians live in peace and happiness.

Imohimi said this when he paid the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, a visit at the government hiuse in Ikeja

“I told my officers and men that my passion for this assignment means that if I have to dine with the devil with a long spoon to ensure that Lagosians live in peace and happiness, I will do so.”

According to Imohimi, his dream is to make Lagos state the safest city to live and do business in Africa.

“I intend to partner with everybody to ensure that Lagos is secured. Lagos is a cosmopolitan city, the issue of security is dynamic and of course, policing must also be dynamic, tomorrow (Wednesday), I would be rolling out my policing plan to achieve this. I want to thank the Lagos State Government for all the support they have been giving to the police. Without support both in terms of equipment, in terms of advocacy, there is no way the police would have been able to achieve what they have achieved within the short span of this administration of the incumbent governor. I appeal to his Excellency that that cooperation should continue. I want to assure His Excellency that during my own watch, he will have no cause for complaint or concern. We would serve the people of Lagos with all our heart and with all our might” he said.

The police boss advised criminals and hoodlums to steer clear off the state as it would no longer be conducive for them.

“I also use this opportunity to tell my colleagues here and I hope they would pass the information to their subordinates, issues of human right abuses, corruption, indiscipline generally, it would no longer be a slap on the wrist, the full weight of the law and police regulations would be meted out on anybody found wanting during my watch,” he warned.

Ahead of the much anticipated roll out of CodeLagos, the Lagos State Ministry of Education on Tuesday said the programme would seek to teach at least one million Lagos residents to code by 2019 and also foster necessary skills to create sustainable solutions to social challenges and create employment opportunities.

The government also announced the commencement of the screening and selection exercise for facilitators for the programme.

In April 2017, three hundred (300) Coding Centers across six (6) Education Districts in Lagos State will be commissioned, marking the beginning of the CodeLagos after-school programme in both public and private schools – primary, secondary & tertiary. Centers will also be set up at State public libraries and other community spaces.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh, said that; “CodeLagos will not only cultivate a savvy workforce to drive our mega-city, but it will generate employment and business opportunities as we mobilize up to 1,500 facilitators in 2017 alone.”

“CodeLagos is an initiative of the Lagos State Government which aims to teach one million Lagos residents to code by 2019. The program will foster necessary skills to create sustainable solutions to social challenges and create employment opportunities.”

Bank-Olemoh also underscored the commitment of the State Government, under the leadership of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to position Lagos State as the technology frontier in Africa saying it was also in line with the Lagos Smart City initiative in partnership with Dubai Smart City.

He said the application process, which is primarily online, entails a submission of bio-data and completion of a general assessment, while successful applicants will receive world-standard trainings on the necessary skills areas.

“Qualifying candidates must be available to participate in all the required trainings which would be provided by the State in collaboration with private sector partners within the technology sector. They must also be willing to commit at least 12 hours weekly to facilitate CodeLagos courses at designated centers upon the launch of the initiative in April,” he said.

The application portal, Bank-Olemoh said, opened on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, and is accessible on www.codelagos.org

Early this morning, I received an SMS that I was debited N50 for Stamp Duty Charge. Personally, I was not bothered because it's just N50.

What caught my attention was after going online, I discovered that other Diamond Bank customers too were charged for this same Stamp Duty, some of them were charged as high as 500 or more, some said they charged them up to three times.

A tweet at @DiamondBankHelp on the matter was unreplied, Nigerians wants answers to this stamp duty charge.

Governor Samuel Ortom in June declared Friday as work free day in Benue state to enable workers in the state work on their respective farms.

The governor is leading by example as he was recently pictured working on his Oracle farm Gbajimba clearing weeds and also washing his hands in Vena stream after working on his farms. Rice, soya beans and are grown on the farm.

The governor has called on the people of the state to return to agriculture as the allocation from the federal government continue to drop coupled with the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers.

Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign young defender Rob Holding from Bolton Wanderers on a long-term contract.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a promising first senior campaign in 2015/16, making 30 appearances for Bolton and winning the club’s player of the season award.

Holding alongside Calum Chambers was part of the England Under-21 side that won the 2016 Toulon tournament in France.

A statement by Arsenal reads:

“Rob is a versatile player, comfortable at both centre back and full back, and we look forward to him joining up with the squad.

His transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.”

The Gunners also announced that they are still in the market for another player.

The Emirates stadium outfit have already signed Granit Xhaka and Takuma Asano this summer.
