TheMadame:
The pagan roots of Easter
Heather McDougall
From Ishtar to Eostre, the roots of the resurrection story go deep. We should embrace the pagan symbolism of Easter
.

E aster is a pagan festival. If Easter isn't really about Jesus, then what is it about? Today, we see a secular culture celebrating the
spring equinox , whilst religious culture celebrates the resurrection. However, early Christianity made a pragmatic acceptance of ancient pagan practises, most of which we enjoy today at Easter. The general symbolic story of the death of the son (sun) on a cross (the constellation of the
Southern Cross ) and his rebirth, overcoming the powers of darkness, was a well worn story in the ancient world. There were plenty of parallel, rival resurrected saviours too.
The Sumerian goddess Inanna , or Ishtar, was hung naked on a stake, and was subsequently resurrected and ascended from the underworld. One of the oldest resurrection myths is Egyptian
Horus . Born on 25 December, Horus and his damaged eye became symbols of life and rebirth.
Mithras was born on what we now call Christmas day, and his followers celebrated the spring equinox. Even as late as the 4th century AD, the
sol invictus , associated with Mithras, was the last great pagan cult the church had to overcome.
Dionysus was a divine child, resurrected by his grandmother. Dionysus also brought his mum, Semele, back to life.
In an ironic twist, the Cybele cult flourished on today's Vatican Hill. Cybele's lover Attis, was born of a virgin, died and was reborn annually. This spring festival began as a day of blood on Black Friday, rising to a crescendo after three days, in rejoicing over the resurrection. There was violent conflict on Vatican Hill in the early days of Christianity between the Jesus worshippers and pagans who quarrelled over whose God was the true, and whose the imitation. What is interesting to note here is that in the ancient world, wherever you had popular resurrected god myths, Christianity found lots of converts. So, eventually Christianity came to an accommodation with the pagan Spring festival. Although we see no celebration of Easter in the New Testament, early church fathers celebrated it, and today many churches are offering "sunrise services" at Easter – an obvious pagan solar celebration. The date of Easter is not fixed, but instead is governed by the phases of the moon – how pagan is that?
All the fun things about Easter are pagan. Bunnies are a leftover from the pagan festival of
Eostre , a great northern goddess whose symbol was a rabbit or hare. Exchange of eggs is an ancient custom, celebrated by many cultures. Hot cross buns are very ancient too. In the Old Testament we see the Israelites baking sweet buns for an idol, and religious leaders trying to put a stop to it. The early church clergy also tried to put a stop to sacred cakes being baked at Easter. In the end, in the face of defiant cake-baking pagan women, they gave up and blessed the cake instead.
Easter is essentially a pagan festival which is celebrated with cards, gifts and novelty Easter products, because it's fun and the ancient symbolism still works. It's always struck me that the power of nature and the longer days are often most felt in modern towns and cities, where we set off to work without putting on our car headlights and when our alarm clock goes off in the mornings, the streetlights outside are not still on because of the darkness.
What better way to celebrate, than to bite the head off the bunny goddess, go to a "sunrise service", get yourself a sticky-footed fluffy chick and stick it on your TV, whilst helping yourself to a hefty slice of pagan simnel cake? Happy Easter
an enlightened lady

Op, nobody is interested in the exact date Tht he resurrected or d date he was born, we dnt care if those days where originally meant for pagan worship, the church wasn't der to know d exact date n time so they might b wrong, but it still doesn't tke away d importance of celebrating d birth n even most importantly d resurrection..Doesnt d Bible teach n d New Testament Tht what ever is agreed on here on earth is agreed In heaven, so if the church leaders come together to agree On a day to celebrate d resurrection Tht glorylifies the name on d Lord, it is agreed in heaven.... Who are u then to come here n spew thrash!!!...... All this Jehovah witnesses sha, ur understanding of scripture is very shallow
I will take this as a form point that you agree that you don't know what you are worshipping. But you are ready to protect it cos that's how it has always been smiley

Very apt.
No record of Jesus' disciples or the first century Christians celebrating the resurrection of Christ as an annual ritual.
And for those that say the origin does not matter but the purpose is the most important. Then you can as well take up a candy from the toilet and lick it since the candy is very sweet not minding the source.
your head is there. I keep saying it. 99 and half percent if Christians and other religions are hypocrites. The people who put it understand the essence of days and time in the astrology calendar. And they are here defending what they don't know

Its a universal issue. Although rampant in the 3rd world. It's as a result of mind control. It's safe to say that the crowd mentality is not always right.

Godswillnwaoma:
1.Easter celebration is not based on the bible.

2. Jesus Christ commanded we should commemorate his death and not his resurrection. Luke 22:19,20

3. The origin of Easter which comes from fertility rites, makes Easter unacceptable to God.

Jehovah's witnesses all around the world does not celebrate Easter .
The funny thing about all the brainwash and twist is that because JW got it right here does not mean they are right either. I raise my coat for the mind that developed religion. The master controller

But what I actually want to know is this

Let's say am buying a product from a Chinese supplier @ $10 per item
If I buy directly from the USA to China with a USA account. How much percent will it save me as compared using a Nigerian debit card. I will like to know the exact difference. If you get what I mean

Mercedes is a Luxury brand. And yes CLS is a luxury car. You should be comparing an SUV vs SUV and not Sedan vs SUV because they serve different purpose but it all depends on what you want. You are also correct about the reliability of the LR3 so you need to do your checks and balances before deciding whether to buy that or move to another brand. I once drove a 2007 CLS 350(you can only find this model in Europe) and it was super. The CLS500 or CLS550 is only manufactured in the USA.
U just made me fall in love with the Mercedes brand. I think it will be a good pic. How effective is maintenance for such a whip?

Id prefer a cls to an lr. However, the lr3 is much more practical than the cls due to space and utility consideration. If youre doing a W219 cls, make it a later model year circa 07/08.
Thanks. What's the estimate cost for that 07/08 year range toks and London used

Two different cars classificationz meant for two differnt core purpose.
CLS500 is based on E class which sits 2x2. The 1st gen CLS is actually 40% sportier than the regular E sedan, they're built as fastback cars. Yhe CLS is ranked just below the S class anf above the E class. Mercedes phased out the 5.0l v8 in favour of the 5.5l v8.

The LR3 is a truck more suited for off road with some luxury appointments. Its cheaper than your RR. Quite an unreliable truck.
I love they way you brought your points our. Am looking at a, 06-07 cls 500 or an lr3. The disadvantages I have been hearing about lr3 is alarming. But I loved it cos of the design and space. As for the cls it's a sleek ride I will love to have my hands on. Will u consider the cls as a luxury car. And how durable is the ride
