nairalanda1: .
Well, if subsides work, they would have let our power sector and refineries work, won't they.
Obvoiusly they are not working.
Also, subsides fuel corruption...because they involve something called free money.
They do production subsides, not price controls, and pay subsidy to cover the resulting loss (which we do here, and said subsidy does not cover the losses resultant).
Yes, because when you run an government whose sources of revenue are from what raw material we sell, and with a mandate to 'share the revenue' corruption naturally results. Because he or she who is closer to the sharing will benefit more than end user.
Whereas if most of our income was from taxes...people would be incentivsed to keep an eye on how their money is spent, and the government won't do wuru wuru...because any stepping out of line, and kasala go burst for their head.
Allowing a free market provides the disposable income for things like taxes to be paid.
Well, some churchpeople do so, some do not. Don't tar everyone with the same brush. If you read the last part i said the church has not been very vocal, that statement did not connote everybody, it means some have been but a greater majority are not, so i didn't paint everyone with the same brush. I agree with most of your points raised, but the crux of the matter is no matter the name we give it, the US still subsidizes her economy and grandscale corruption is the bane of this country |
Politics › Re: The CHURCH Is The Reason Why Nigeria Isn't Working by ibbo: 8:46am On Mar 28, 2024 |
nairalanda1: Well, the USSR abolished the churches and still collapsed because at the end of the day, they tried to run an economy based on the government setting prices for everyone, and trying to make everyone earn the same...and it ruined their economy...because long story short...people love to make money.
All the communist countries did what you wanted and still collapsed because at the end, if your economy is not run on profit making, but on price controls and subsides, you will run out of money, and you will fail.
The communist countries that survive did so because they in essence accepted that they needed to free the market.
NIgeria is in a mess because we do too many subsides, and too much welfare. And it is reaching a point where it is costing far more than we earn to maintain it. Plus, such things end up being niduses of corruption and looting. Either way the result is a ruined economy.
The only reason why we are not at USSR level? We allow some free market. The problem with Nigeria is wide scale corruption, and not too many subsidies. Even in the so called US that is an epitome of free market, they still doll out subsidies. Our problem in this country is monumental corruption from the highest office in the land to the lowest office in the landm everybody is busy stealing. My only annoyance with the church is that it has not been very vocal in condeming the wide spread corruption in this country. Rather they have been hobnobbing with the political class stealing us blind, by giving them recognition instead of ostracizing them. They preach to masses to endure pain and suffering that it is from the LORD, instead of holding their kleptomaniac political leaders accountable. |

God will judge our leaders. i'm just appalled by the total silence from them. when others have already enjoy their minimum wage arrears. Fg just keep promising every month, and each month they shift it to the next and so on. |

toivar: No it's not been added cos once it's added a few days later they will pay the arrears. OR they will pay the arrears and some days later, u will see an increase in the your pay for that month. What I am sure of now is that minimum wage arrears is some days away cos there has been a stability in the particular days of payment. For example, NBTI have been constantly paid on the 26th for past few months this is a pointer to stability in IPPIS system. And they is usually preceded by thebnew minimum wage arrears. This has been confirmed by even people that have got the minimum wage arrears is past from those in Federal govemnet colleges to those in Federal health institutions. So I guess federal tertiary institutions are days ahead of celebration i thought IPPIS claimed they have paid tertiary institution their minimum wage right from the day they started paying tertiary institution. The only thing they admitted not yet paid is the arrears, which they have promised to pay as soon as salary is stabilized. so i'm surprised at your assertion, that they are yet to pay tertiary institution minimum wage. As it is, based on projection the minimum wage arrears will span from April last year to January this year. Since IPPIS started in February this year |

What zanna doesn't know is that prof ayara despises him and will immediately undo all he has put in place in unical. If prof Ayara will toe that line that will be great. |
