Kazikazi:They are claiming they invented Hakuna Matata |
Kazikazi:You can trademark what you create, so according to them, they are the first to use Hakuna Matata. |
darfay:More than 70,000 signed and counting! Greedy goats. |
rvp2018:Let's wait for TI Corruption Perception Index next year. |
Kenyans/Tanzanians are guys hearing this, Disney just tried to claim Hakuna Matata |
TayserMahiri:Mind you I said one of the reasons not the reason. if you disagree, what's your take on the matter? I spent about 15minutes going through my browsing history, only for me to remember I read it on Nairaland. . If I've remembered I read it on Nairaland, I wouldn't have mentioned it earlier, anyway here it ishttps://www.nairaland.com/4893850/youtube-unveils-top-10-trending |
iblawi:This article speaks for itself. I dare say it will not be possible 2014? https://www.ft.com/content/b45be464-f940-11e8-af46-2022a0b02a6c About herders crisis: while it's new to most Nigerians, those of us from middle belt grew up hearing stories, some of us even had first hand experience with them (I am not among ) Weirdly though, while they are now rampant in Southern States, apart from benue, they've been quiet here, maybe because they have integrated with some communities? They even have what we call ruga (settlement) here. A visit is a sure way of getting a live chicken, don't look at their women too much though, their cutlass is very sharp ![]() And the way Nigerians use the "bigot, bigotry" nowadays, it's almost as if we've discovered a new vocabulary .Anyway "careful careful, lest you become that which you accuse others of". Just take a look at Israel. |
rvp2018:1M dollars for a single movie is no small amount by African standards. |
rvp2018:And that is what I am talking about. You think TIFF will screen about 5 Nigerian movies in a year if they are not "sophisticated"? There are more than 20 acting schools in Lagos alone, del york is even affiliated to New York academy. And you are not allowed into Actors Guild of Nigeria (which is very prestigious) unless you have a certificate in acting from a verified institution. Most economists have agreed that the nollywood/bollywood model is better for a developing country than SA's model that relies heavily on foreign investment. Produce so much shitty movies, get attention, develop local talent and as time goes, audience will weed out the bad ones just like its happening now in both Nollywood/Bollywood. Nollywood is self run, it has been has been growing steadily over the years in terms of quality, 2016 (when Nigeria was in recession) was one of the most successful year for Nollywood. And I am still curious. What's the highest grossing Kenyan movie? |
rvp2018:So my excuses are lame. ![]() Those are not excuses by the way, they are explanation. Kenyan film industry is more sophisticated than Nollywood , I laugh in Swahili, come back when you can boast of an artist like Hakeem effect (BBC featured him by the way), come back when your "sophisticated' movies can be screened internationally on yearly basis, come back when a your movie can gross higher than Nollywood's, Come back when foreign actors/actresses from Africa started featuring in your movies. ![]() |
rvp2018:250m dollars in her career so far? My question is how much per year? |
rvp2018:On the issue of South Africa, while it's not in doubt it has enjoyed more financial success than nollywood films, but that's because most of it's highest grossing movies are either a collaboration with New Zealand, US, UK or stars Hollywood actors. That's one of the reason nollywood is praised, it's completely indigenous! And you have to go far back as 2009 to find the highest grossing SA film while the top 20 highest grossing nollywood films are from 2010 to present, each year setting a new record. |
rvp2018:I know nollywood is growing too fast but Please try to keep up, The days of witchcraft and voodoo are "almost gone" 2010 to 2018 has been a tremendous success story for nollywood. Check out, Arbitration, the CEO, 76, October 1st, half a yellow sun, 93 days, if I am president e.t.c (non of them are comedy) Really, how much does lupita gross per year then? King of Boys was released this October and it already grossed 200mil naira (and it's still running) it has a rating of 9.2/10 by Imdb, the highest by a nollywood movie. And it's still not the highest grossing Nigerian movie. That honour goes to the wedding party, grossed 500mil naira in Nigeria alone, theatrical screening, DVD sales and online streaming outside Nigeria are not included. Take that Kenya! ![]() |
rvp2018:Both of them short films ![]() Good luck though, y'all can keep winning Oscars, we will keep developing our nollywood. |

All this arguments about buildings because of a list compiled on SSC, some people are just funny . So you guys are telling me that every project going on in Kenya is reported on SSC? Same goes for Nigeria?Tanzania? Other African countries? I don't about Kenya, but some projects do go on in Nigeria without it been reported on SSC. EFCC headquarters was built without it been reported on SSC until during commissioning, dangote is currently building it's global headquarters Lagos, it's not on SSC, AFDB Abuja office was built without it been reported on SSC until during commissioning. There are others too. That list is misleading, what about other African countries with little presence on SSC? Like Togo, Benin, EQG, e.t.c. does that mean there are no high rise projects going on in those Countries? |
I know it's inconsequential, but what really pisses me off after the video itself is the title. Especially that word "elite". Imagine every one who watches the video thinking "so that's how Nigerian elite soldiers looks like" |
tylann:Ok, I get you know. |
tylann:Few Nigerians can afford live in tatu city according to you, what Kenyans then? Will you say most of you can afford live there? |
All this Kenyans bashing Nigerians for being criminals, I have a question. Nigerians are known as "one" of the most educated migrant communities in US and Europe, even in SA, there more than 600 Nigerian doctors there, some professors too. so my question is this, why is it that Kenya is attractive to only the criminals, not doctors or professors e.t.c. ![]() |
have you guys given up yet, I haven't seen Nairobi in almost three days now ![]() Lagos Credits:lolalulev, f27arts Second picture is the growing skyline of eko Atlantic by the way ![]()

NairobiWalker:Garissa County 8.2pct Nairobi County 96.1pct https://www.the-star.co.ke/news/2017/10/13/garissa-county-last-in-literacy-levels-at-82_c1651530 Lagos State 92pct Borno state 14.5pct https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.unesco.org/new/fileadmin/MULTIMEDIA/HQ/ED/pdf/Nigeria.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiqsrbFg6nfAhULVRUIHdPzAcEQFjABegQIDhAF&usg=AOvVaw2N4cGQ9EpAuAbPu-aPQVVD Yes, national average is what matters ![]() |
NairobiWalker:You the one to talk, literacy rate in Kenya by counties is not something to write home about either, the gap between the highest ranked county and the lowest is HUGE. worse than Nigeria's even. |
darfay:You specifically went and searched for illiteracy rate in Northern Nigeria, while our argument is about South west, You Don cast, big time. Those values are wrong by the way, according to UNESCO, the lowest ranked state in Nigeria is Borno at 14.5percent. Not yobe 7percent Don't quote me on this matter again, this is my last say. |
rvp20183:Never as in ever, you mean Kenya always printed it's in-House since independence? ![]() Well we use to import our money, but not anymore and Nigerian printing and Minting is wholly owned by the federal government. |
TayserMahiri:Ahhh but one of the reasons music from Africa and the Caribbean are becoming popular worldwide is because people are getting tired of American Music. Some have also accused US of sounding monotonous. Do you that among the top trending music videos on YouTube 2018, No American video is among the top five in a list dominated by Caribbeans? (No African unfortunately) |
darfay:You are using secondary school result to make your point? ![]() Let's not start Yoruba Vs igbo thing here. And by the way I like how you focused on education while you conveniently omit the part where I mentioned how igbo dominate a particular market in Nigeria ![]() The day we stop treating everything as a competition is the day we start moving forward. SMH |
TayserMahiri:Hahahahaha, so Kenyans do listen to Nigerian music after all About sounding monotonous, you are correct to an extent, there is a studio in virtually every corner you turn, anybody with a mic, 50k naira, can produce a high quality music now, so the music space is getting choked up, not like the old days when artists depends on record labels, and record labels signs only those with talent. Also some don't know the Nigerian music space, so they keep listening to songs that sound the same again and again even though they are from different artists. For example, heavens gate (ft Lilly Allen), ye, and gbona do not sound the same even though they are produced by the same artist in the same year 2018; burna boy. Davido ft kizz Daniel one ticket is different from Wizkid's fever. Same time, Davido's Wonder Woman and olamide's poverty die, tiwa savage's one, yemi alade's issokay, sounds like most Nigerian music. (all different artists also in 2018) While little known artists like Johnny drille's wait for me and adekunle gold's damn Delilah sound radically different from the norm. I don't really know how to explain it, but I just know which music/artist to avoid. Adekunle Gold, damn Delilah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLMm-0AREyQ Johnny Drille wait for me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab9dtAuosMw |
