Politics › Hardship: NLC, Student Unions Kick Against Planned Mass Protest by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 7:47am On Jul 24, 2024 |
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), student unions, and other civil society organisations have pulled out from the planned mass protest scheduled to hold on August 1, 2024.
The leadership of the unions’ Jigawa State chapters disclosed this while speaking at the town hall meetings held on Monday at the Banquet Hall, Government House Dutse.
The meeting aimed to discuss how to join hands with critical stakeholders to tackle economic challenges and advise people not to become agents of national destruction.
According to them, the state government is doing its best to alleviate the suffering of the common man; therefore, the planned mass protest has no basis in Jigawa State.
They explained that the state government has initiated various empowerment programmes that are touching the lives of the masses at the grassroots level, including FADAMA CARES.
According to them, “The project employs a scientific and unbiased mode of selecting beneficiaries irrespective of their social differences, and under the programme, thousands of poor and vulnerable people are directly benefiting.”
“Government is also employing youth, increasing scholarships for students, and ensuring the payment of salaries and other benefits.”
State Commissioner of Police, CP A.T. Abdullahi, noted that Jigawa is the most peaceful state in the nation, therefore, there is a need to maintain the tempo.
He explained that most protests are being hijacked by criminals who don’t want good for the country.
“The process will be taken over by undesirable elements, leading to a crisis,” the CP said.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting the lives and properties of the citizens.

Politics › Shelve Proposed Nationwide Protest, IG Tells Organisers by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 4:15am On Jul 24, 2024 |
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, yesterday warned groups planning and mobilising for a nationwide protest against economic hardship in the country scheduled to begin August 1, 2024, to have a re-think and jettison the plan because it is ill-advised.
He spoke against the backdrop of viral social media campaigns about the proposed protest which is gaining momentum, adding that the country had had its fair share of violent protests with dastardly consequences.
Speaking at a meeting with DIGs, AIGs and command police commissioners of the 36 states and FCT in Abuja, Egbetokun reminded Nigerians that the last #EndSARS protest aggravated crime rates and insecurity in several parts.
He said: “Before concluding this address, it is important I address an issue of urgent national importance which appears to have gained some momentum, particularly on social media, in the past few weeks.
“Some groups of people, self-appointed crusaders and influencers, have been strategizing and mobilizing potential protesters to unleash terror in the land under the guise of replicating the recent Kenya protests.
“While the force acknowledges the right to peaceful protest as enshrined in our constitution, we must ensure that these protests do not snowball into violence or disorder.
“As a nation, we have had more than our fair share of violent protests, with rather dastardly consequences.
“The last #EndSARS protest led to one-tenth destruction of public assets, including police stations, courts, and transport infrastructure, as well as the loss of several lives. Tales of sorrow, tears, and blood followed what was supposedly intended to be a well-intentioned exercise.
“Rather than lead to any positive outcome, #EndSARS merely aggravated crime rates and insecurity in several parts of the country. Indeed, we are yet to fully recover from the huge economic losses and deep-seated psychological and emotional trauma inflicted upon our people by these protests.”
Consequently, Egbetokun urged the citizens to jettison the proposed protest, insisting that the police had a responsibility to protect citizens and their properties.
“Our position is that the proposed violent protests are ill-advised and should be jettisoned fortuitously. We have the responsibility to protect properties and everyone, irrespective of their race, colour, ethnicity, or tribe, who are lawfully embarking on their daily activities.
“We will, therefore, not sit back and fold our arms to watch violent activities unleashed on our peaceful communities or destroy any of our national critical infrastructure and assets again,” he added.
The IGP said measures were in place to ensure that any hoodlums attempting to disguise themselves as protesters would be apprehended.
He said: “We have mapped out plans to ensure that no individual or group succeeds in fostering a reign of terror and anarchy on other law-abiding and dissolving Nigerians.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/07/shelve-proposed-nationwide-protest-ig-tells-organisers/

Remman: She lacks the fire power to sack failed officials or military generals who would fail their duties. Trum wins! Perhaps, you haven't had female managers. They are the meanest as they often over compensate to prevent people from seeing them as weak. Infact, that was what people thought of Hillary. Alot of Democrats did not vote for her because they thought she will start a war and Trump was untested. Now that Trump is already tested, those Dems that did not vote Hilary and later regretted will likely not make that mistake with Harris. |

OkCornel: Na naija go lose las las.
Dangote has international clients for his products.
A government with common sense and the interest of the masses at heart will subsidise the crude supplied to Dangote refinery, then agree the price at which the finished products would be sold to the masses.
Cheap fuel, cheap fertiliser and price of things will come down.
This is how subsidy should work. Rather than the current fraudulent model.
Walahi, saboteurs full government. But you Obidients NEVER even believed that the refinery was functional. Because, David Hundeyin, the refugee in Ghana told you so. |

Democratic donations eclipse $45M after Biden endorsement of Harris campaign, platform says.
ActBlue, a nonprofit fundraising platform supporting national Democratic candidate, says they have seen millions of dollars in donations following President Joe Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign for the presidency.
“Grassroots supporters are energized and excited to support her as the Democratic nominee,” the organization said in a statement posted to X.
The organization announced that, as of 9 p.m., fundraising across the platform had grown to $46.7M. That amount, according to Act Blue, pushes the day’s fundraising to remarkable levels.
“This has been the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle. Small-dollar donors are fired up and ready to take on this election,” ActBlue wrote in an update.
Earlier Sunday, the organization said small-dollar donors raised over $27.5 million dollars within the first 5 hours of the announcement that Biden would endorse Harris’s campaign for the White House.

Politics › Potential Protest: Reno Omokri Posts A Nugget by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 7:15pm On Jul 20, 2024 |
Anybody from a state whose Governor owes salary and pays workers below the old minimum wage of ₦30,000, yet wants to protest in Lagos, where the Governor pays workers ₦70,000 as minimum wage, and does not owe workers salary, is not a protester. That person is an invader. They are foot soldiers of the ground invasion army that wants to destroy Lagos as the most progressive metropolis in West Africa, and ravage her infrastructure.
It makes no sense that you relocated from Abia, Nasarawa, Anambra, or Plateau, where some of your Governors are paying less than ₦30,000, and in the case of Abia especially, still owing workers for several months even that paltry wage, yet it is in Lagos, where you are seeing more money, more infrastructure, and more good governance than in your own state that you want to protest.
You want to protest in a state that provides free healthcare, subsidised public schools for all, irrespective of ethnic origin, and free soup kitchens for people experiencing poverty, and funded 80 innovative start-ups for Lagos youths between 2020 and 2024. A state that gave out almost 20,000 tablets to pupils from middle and low-income families to enhance their education, not minding their ethnic nationalities. Oh yes, please fact-check me.
You can't leave hell only to protest in a near paradise. Something is fishy!

Crime › Nigerian Police Arrest Suspected Trafficker Who Used Teenagers As Sex Slaves by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 7:43pm On Jul 18, 2024 |
The Nigeria Police Force, Delta Police command has reportedly arrested one Chioma Edafe, a suspected member of a human trafficking syndicate, using teenagers for commercial sex in Ughelli, Delta State.
It was learnt that 35 others among which 23 are all teenagers were also rescued during the raid at ‘Big Dafe Hotel’ by Ughelli/Patani Road, on Monday.
The spokesman of the command, SP Bright Edafe, in statement on Thursday said information was received by the command on the activities of one Chinyere who specialises in trafficking women from the East and taking them to Ughelli Delta State for prostitution.
He explained that the intelligence further revealed that she lured them by telling them that they were coming to Delta State to work as a sales girl in a restaurant.
Edafe stressed that serious manhunt for the main suspect Chinyere was ongoing. He said; "On 15/7/2024, acting on credible information received by the Command on the activities of one Chinyere (surname unknown) who specialises in trafficking women from the East and brings them to Ughelli Delta State for prostitution. Intelligence further revealed that she lures them by telling them that they are coming to Delta State to work as a sales girl in a restaurant.
"The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Abaniwonda Olufemi who has zero tolerance for human/child trafficking detailed the DPO Ekpan CSP Aliyu Shaba to immediately work on the gathered intelligence and ensure that the hotel is located and the suspect arrested. "Consequently, on 15/07/2024 at about 1900hrs, one of the victims (name withheld) was located and she revealed the illegal activities of the said suspect Chinyere ‘f’ surname unknown currently at large.
"She further stated that the suspect deceived her parents to follow her down to Delta State from Abia State to be a sales girl in a bar with a salary of N30,000 monthly. "Based on the information, a combined team of Surveillance stormed the hotel ‘Big Dafe Hotel’ by Ughelli/Patani Road, and arrested one Chioma Edafe ‘f’ 36yrs of Umuogbezea Community in Imo State who runs the hotel and Thirty-Five others among which Twenty-Three are all teenagers.
