PoliticsNasarawa Youths Shun Hunger Protest by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 1:56pm On Aug 01, 2024
Nasarawa Youths have, so far, shunned the planned nationwide protest across the 13 local government areas of the state.

Nigerians began a nationwide protest against hunger across the country on Thursday.

Our correspondent who went around Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital on Thursday to monitor the situation observed that Makurdi/Jos and Shandam roads leading to the government house, Lafia were deserted as security operatives were seen stationed at flash points to control any possible outbreak of law and order in the state.

Our correspondent also reports that in the Lafia metropolis people were seen going about their lawful businesses without any form of harassment.

Other areas visited by our correspondent in the Lafia local government area of the state included UAC, Kwandere, Makurdi roads, and Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 Polytechnic Lafia were deserted as youths, market men and women were seen peacefully going about their lawful businesses without any hindrance or molestation from security operatives in the state.

Our correspondent said the situation in Nasarawa state was generally peaceful across the 13 local government areas with no form of violence or sign of destruction of government properties.

However, some shops in the state were partially under lock and key for fear of being attacked.

The commissioner of police, Mr Umar Shehu-Nadada, was seen in a convoy going around the state capital alongside other security agencies to monitor the situation.

PoliticsItsekiri Leaders Of Thought Dissociate Itsekiri Nation From The Proposed Protest by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 9:53pm On Jul 30, 2024
Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, ILoT has dissociated the Itsekiri nation from the proposed mass protest billed to commence from August 1st.

In a statement signed by the Chairman Chief Edward Ekpoko and the Secretary Sir Sunny Mene of the apex Itsekiri platform, ILoT also urged the government at all levels in the country to take steps to redress challenges arising from hardship plaguing the country.

The statement reads: ” The Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILoT), a socio-political organization of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality worldwide held an emergency meeting on Sunday, 28th day of July 2024, at Warri, Delta State on the state of the nation, particularly the intended Nation-wide protest scheduled to begin on 1st August 2024.

“The leadership noted that The current economic hardship faced by Nigerians, especially our teeming and un-employed youths is worrisome and of concern to all. Our thoughts are with them. Government at all levels should do more to ameliorate this hardship.

“Peaceful protest as a means of expressing grievances is guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution and other international statutes to which Nigeria is a signatory.

The planned nationwide protest is devoid of any clear agenda, and demands (if met) can only lead to a state of anarchy.

“The organizers of the protest, who are mainly living in the diaspora, whose identities are not clear for now or kept secret and some politicians, make it worrisome. It also makes the whole exercise look like it is predetermined to effect the turbulence of a mob and therefore stand the risk of being hijacked by hoodlums as in the case of the now infamous END SARS PROTEST of October 2020. We are yet to recover from the effect of that protest.

“The Arab Spring in North Africa which started on 17th December 2010, after a series of anti-government protests, hijacked by hoodlums, left almost the entire region without a stable government to date. This has resulted in huge illegal migration to Europe and other parts of the world at great danger to human lives. We do not wish that for Nigeria and Nigerians.

“We note the efforts of the Federal Government to ameliorate the harsh condition Nigerians are facing and ask that the government be given time to carry out its reform programmes. All tiers of government states and local governments, should do more.

“The Itsekiri Leaders of Thought disassociates itself and indeed the entire Itsekiri people worldwide from the proposed nationwide protest scheduled to begin on August 1, 2024, or any other date for the time being.

“We call on all Itsekiri sons and daughters, especially our youths not to participate in the said protest.

“A protest of this nature is an ill wind that will do no one any good.”

PoliticsPresident Tinubu Offers Lifeline To Dangote Refinery - Femi Otedola by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 4:55pm On Jul 29, 2024
President Tinubu offers lifeline to Dangote Refinery, NNPC to sell crude to it in Naira

To ensure the stability of the pump price of refined fuel and the dollar-Naira exchange rate, the Federal Executive Council today adopted a proposal by President Tinubu to sell crude to Dangote Refinery and other upcoming refineries in Naira.

Dangote Refinery at the moment requires 15 cargoes of crude, at a cost of $13.5 billion yearly. NNPC has committed to supply four.

But the FEC has approved that the 450,000 barrels meant for domestic consumption be offered in Naira to Nigerian refineries, using the Dangote refinery as pilot. The exchange rate will be fixed for the duration of this transaction.

Afreximbank and other settlement banks in Nigeria will facilitate the trade between Dangote and NNPC Limited. The game changing intervention will eliminate the need for international letters of credit. It will also save the country of billions of dollars used in importing refined fuel … F.Ote $

Politics'I no longer have confidence in Peter Obi': Kenneth Okonkwo dumps Labour Party by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 8:01am On Jul 28, 2024
Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, has dumped the party.

Okonkwo left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for LP in 2022.

Lately, he has been critical of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the LP led by the chairman of the party, Julius Abure

In June 2024, he described the party as “a secret society led by a group of clowns”, adding that he could not rule out defecting

‘Stop Demarketing Peter Obi, Labour Party’, LP Directorate Tells NLC Transition Committee

In a statement via his X handle, he specifically blamed the party’s presidential candidate for the last election, Peter Obi, and the crisis rocking the party, for his decision.

According to him, Obi did not do enough to build the party and solve its leadership crisis.

The Nollywood actor turned politician said: “He (Peter Obi) just needed to give the right directives and everyone will fall in line. I received my first shock when he publicly declared that he didn’t promise Nigerians to build a strong Labour Party, but to solve Nigeria’s problems.

“I was like, does it mean Peter Obi is not aware that without a solid party base, we are heading to nowhere politically? However, I continued in his defence believing he will still privately bring the needed solution to LP problems but to no avail.

“PO also publicly demanded that the Abure-led National Working Committee must organise an all-inclusive convention that will guarantee the participation of all members of the Labour Party in the choice of their leaders.

“This didn’t happen, and surprisingly, PO refused to disassociate himself from the shenanigans and criminal activities of the former NWC as their time had expired.

“Every member of the Labour Party is confused today as to the future of the Labour Party because of lack of leadership from PO over the party, and unfortunately, when they look up to me to tell them about PO’s standpoint, I sincerely have nothing to tell them because I don’t know myself.

“I cannot continue to speak on behalf of a leader that I do not know his stand on issues of great importance. I simply don’t know how to manipulate facts.”

Oando, Nigeria’s leading indigenous oil firm has debunked rumours that its directors are the owners of an oil blending plant in Malta.

Oando debunked the viral rumour in a statement sent to the Nigerian Exchange on Friday.

Fact checkers have also shown that Ras Hanzir Oil Terminal is fictional.

PoliticsOando Denies Malta Blending Plant Ownership Claims by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 4:57pm On Jul 27, 2024
Oando PLC has denied allegations on social and digital media that it owns a blending plant in Malta.

The energy company also denied importing dirty fuel into Nigeria through a Maltese company, Raz Hansir Oil Terminal Limited.

A statement by the company secretary, Ayotola Jagun, said the allegations levelled against Oando of being a shareholder and its principals of being board members of Raz Hansir Oil Terminal Limited, a company that operates an oil storage and blending facility responsible for importing adulterated petroleum products into Nigeria, were unfounded.

“We wish to refute such claims and attest that neither Oando PLC nor its Executives have ever held shares, investments, or interests in the fictitious Maltese company.

“As part of a comprehensive investigation into the basis of the false claims, we conducted a search of the Malta Business Registry, the official repository for all registered entities past and current within the country. Our search yielded no results for a company bearing that name. Subsequent due diligence efforts similarly failed to uncover any record of the company’s existence.

“We therefore believe that the false claims are of the malicious intent of misleading the public and our stakeholders,” Jagun stated.

The company reiterated that as a publicly listed company, any corporate actions, such as acquisitions, are declared publicly in accordance with applicable corporate governance laws and rules.

“Furthermore, it is imperative that information released about a publicly quoted company such as Oando, is thoroughly researched and deemed accurate before it is published in the public domain.

“The company’s securities are traded daily across two exchanges (NGX and JSE). To prevent misinformation and confusion among investors, as well as our other stakeholders, we implore all members of the press to take adequate steps to ensure the veracity of reports by fielding all inquiries with Oando PLC’s Corporate Communications department,” Jagun said.

Malta and its oil became a topic of discussion lately following allegations by the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, that some officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited own blending plants in Malta.

Amid the crisis surrounding his $20bn refinery, Dangote had said: “Some of the terminals, some of the NNPC people, and some traders have opened blending plants somewhere off Malta. We all know these areas. We know what they are doing,” Dangote said.

Data from Trade Map showed that Nigeria imported fuel worth $2bn in 2023 alone.

Earlier, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, said he does not own a blending plant outside Nigeria.

Kyari stated that he had been inundated with calls from family members and friends, asking if he truly owned a blending plant in Malta.

Dangote has been speaking up following allegations by the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, that the diesel produced by the Dangote refinery had higher sulphur content than imported ones; a claim Dangote described as an attempt to demarket his refinery.

Ahmed also said the country would continue to import fuel to stop the Dangote monopoly.

PoliticsExclusive: Nigeria's Dangote Refinery Is Reselling Crude, Sources Say - Reuters by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 10:34am On Jul 27, 2024
LONDON/BRUSSELS, July 26 (Reuters) - Nigeria's major Dangote oil refinery is reselling cargoes of U.S. and Nigerian crude, four trade sources familiar with the matter said on Friday.

Three of the sources said the reoffer was linked to technical problems at the refinery. A Dangote executive, asked about the offers and talk in the market that the refinery is having operational issues affecting the crude distillation unit, said the CDU is in operation.

The refinery started production in January and will be the largest in Africa and Europe when it reaches full capacity. It could upend what has been a highly lucrative Europe-to-Africa fuel trade and transform Nigeria into an exporter of fuels.

Cargoes of Nigerian Escravos and Forcados crude were among the grades being offered, as well as U.S. WTI Midland crude, the sources said. The plant has been importing several crude cargoes a month, traders have said.

Such resales by refineries are quite rare but not unknown, traders said. Crude prices added to an earlier decline after the news on Friday. Brent crude fell as much as 2.5% towards $80 a barrel, and had recovered to above $81 by 1700 GMT.

The 650,000 barrel-per-day refinery was built at a cost of $20 billion by Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote.
Dangote aims to reverse Nigeria's reliance on imports for fuel which have continued even though the country is Africa's biggest oil producer.

PoliticsRabiu Musa Kwankwaso Addresses Nigerians On The Proposed Protest by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 6:55am On Jul 27, 2024
ADDRESS TO NIGERIANS

My Fellow Nigerians,

It is with deep sense of responsibility that I share my thoughts on the current situation in Nigeria. We found ourselves in avoidable hardship because our leaders missed some steps since 2007. However, there is always room for correction and setting the country on the right track for economic development, prosperity and better welfare of citizens. This could be achieved through ensuring good governance, respect for the rule of law, transparency and accountability.

It is sad to note that the attitude of our leaders to poor governance plunged the citizens, especially youth, into anger, hunger, insecurity, hopelessness and about giving up on the country. Interferences by the Federal Government into the affairs of the chieftaincy matters in Kano State, impeachment of the Deputy Governor of Edo State, political crises in Rivers State, sabotage to Aliko Dangote refinery, controversies surrounding SAMOA agreement, the conflict between Sen. Ali Ndume and the APC Leadership, widespread insecurity and other criminal acts are a few examples of avoidable and unnecessary crises. We appeal to the leadership of the country at all levels to take necessary steps to address the myriad challenges facing the country.

Today, I speak to you not just as an elder and a concerned citizen but as someone who deeply believes in the power and potential of our great nation. The recent calls for protests against bad governance resonate with me, as they reflect our collective frustration and yearning for a better Nigeria.

However, I urge Nigerians to put our country first before any other consideration by way of being patient with the government and giving it all necessary support to succeed. If any government fails to provide the necessary leadership for better Nigeria, we will have opportunity as citizens to elect the people who can bring the required change using our votes.

In these trying times, our nation stands at a crossroads. Our collective frustration with bad governance has reached a boiling point, and the urge to protest is strong. As an elder and patriotic Nigerian, I share your concerns and your desire for change. However, I urge you to consider the consequences of national protests and to channel your energy into a more effective and peaceful means of transformation—through the power of your ballot.

Protests, while a fundamental democratic right, often come with unforeseen and dire consequences. The tragic events of the past have shown us that protests can escalate into violence, leading to loss of lives, destruction of property, and widespread chaos. The repercussions of such actions extend far beyond the immediate moment, leaving scars on our communities and deepening divisions among us.

Foreign AffairsKamala Harris Breaks Zoom Record With Supporters Raising Over $1.8 Million by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 4:33am On Jul 26, 2024
Kamala Harris Fundraiser Breaks Zoom Record With 100k supporters Raising Over $1.8 Million.

Kamala Harris supporters — including singer Pink and actress Connie Britton — broke a Zoom attendance record on Thursday night and raised more than $1.8 million for the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate.

They also kind of broke Zoom as the call dropped in and out, with the donation link quickly maxing out before its traffic capacity was raised.

“Friday Night Lights” star Britton said, “When Biden stepped down from his run for president and endorsed Kamala Harris, the world blew up. Did you feel it? It was seismic, cosmic, even. It was, for sure, bigger than we are.”

Pink signed on moments after ending a concert in Stockholm, Sweden, where it was 3 a.m. local time. She was fired up about Harris’ unprecedented wave of support just days after President Biden stepped down on Sunday.

“We are in this … and I’m just really grateful that us women are going to have a voice, and we’ve always made our voices heard, and now it’s time to just get extra loud. Let’s go. Let’s get loud,” the singer said.

Comedian, writer and KCET board member Carol Leif, wearing a Hillary 2016 T-shirt, got the fundraiser ball rolling by pledging $500,000 that was quickly matched.

Also among Thursday’s speakers was anti-gun activist Shannon Watts, who said, “Vote like your safety and your freedom depends on it.”

This was the third massive Zoom call for Harris, following Sunday night’s, which saw a then-record 44,000 Black women dial in. On Monday night, 50,000 Black men, including Georgia senator Raphael Warnock, then raised $1.3 million for her campaign.

The demo of Thursday night’s record-breaking call was white women. An additional planned Zoom for this Sunday will be open to all, organizer and host Elizabeth Minnella noted.

OpenSecrets reported earlier on Thursday that Harris had already raised $100 million in the first 36 hours of her campaign.

PoliticsKatsina Government Officials Divert 2000 Bags Of Rice Donated By FG To Residents by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 12:23am On Jul 26, 2024
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the recovered rice was allegedly diverted by some Katsina State government officials.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has said that its operatives in Katsina State Command recovered 2000 bags of rice from the 20 trucks donated to the state by the Nigerian government.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the recovered rice was allegedly diverted by some Katsina State government officials.

The Nigerian government had donated the rice to alleviate the economic hardships currently affecting the country.

The DSS officials, who confirmed this development, declined to comment further and preferred to remain anonymous. However, NAN reports that an investigation revealed that the 25kg bags of rice were stored at the Central market in Katsina, following a tip-off to the DSS on Wednesday night.

Mr. Abdulrahman Abdullahi, Chairman of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the state, expressed shock over the incident and lamented the diversion of palliatives meant for the vulnerable. He vowed to pursue the case to its logical conclusion and advised the government to investigate the matter thoroughly and punish those responsible.

A resident of Katsina, Suleiman Kofar-Durbi, described the situation as unfortunate, highlighting the hardships people are facing due to the current economic conditions. He urged the government to investigate and hold the culprits accountable.

Alhaji Shehu Usman, Chairman of the Market Traders Association, revealed that the rice was brought into the market by someone who was not a trader, emphasizing the need for traders to be cautious about accepting such items for storage.

In response, Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi, Principal Private Secretary to Gov. Dikko Radda, stated that the rice was allocated to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, by the Federal Government.

The minister had directed the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure Development, Alhaji Nasiru Lawal, to store the rice, who then decided to keep it in the market for safekeeping. The allocated rice amounted to 1,200 bags.

CrimeSixth Nigerian Sentenced For International Scheme That Defrauded US Victims by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 10:32pm On Jul 25, 2024
A Nigerian was sentenced on Monday to 85 months in prison for his role in a transnational inheritance fraud scheme. With today’s sentencing, each of the six defendants connected with this matter has been sentenced.

According to court documents, Amos Prince Okey Ezemma, 50, was a member of a group of fraudsters that sent personalized letters to elderly victims in the United States, falsely claiming that the sender was a representative of a bank in Spain and that the recipient was entitled to receive a multimillion-dollar inheritance left for the recipient by a family member who had died years before in Portugal.

Victims were told that before they could receive their purported inheritance, they were required to send money for delivery fees and taxes and were instructed to make other payments.

The victims sent money to the defendants through a complex web of U.S.-based former victims. The defendant and his co-conspirators also convinced former victims to receive money from new victims and then forward the fraud proceeds to others.

“The Justice Department’s Consumer Protection Branch will continue to pursue, prosecute and bring to justice transnational criminals responsible for defrauding U.S. consumers, wherever they are located,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Division.

“This case is testament to the critical role of international collaboration in tackling transnational crime. I want to thank the members of the Postal Inspection Service and Homeland Security Investigations, as well as the Spanish National Police, National Crime Agency and Portuguese Judicial Police for their outstanding contributions to this case.”

“This investigation is a great example of the results the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), the Justice Department and our law enforcement partners strive to achieve,” said Inspector in Charge Juan A. Vargas of the USPIS Miami Division.

“We will continue to identify and dismantle transnational groups targeting American citizens and using the mail to further their schemes to defraud. Justice has no borders.”

“Targeting the elderly for pure financial gain is beyond shameful, it’s morally reprehensible,” said Special Agent in Charge Fransisco B. Burrola of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Arizona.

“Protecting such a vulnerable population is not just the responsibility of family members but also law enforcement agencies like HSI and our partners. Together, we are a force multiplier committed to apprehending those who scam our seniors. Let these lengthy sentences serve as reminders that HSI will not tolerate criminals who are motivated by greed.”

Each of Ezemma’s five co-defendants has been sentenced to prison for their roles in the scheme. On June 21, 2023, the Honorable Kathleen M. Williams sentenced Emmanuel Samuel to 82 months in prison. On July 25, 2023, Judge Williams sentenced Jerry Chucks Ozor to 87 months in prison.

On Aug. 29, 2023, Judge Williams sentenced Iheanyichukwu Jonathan Abraham to 90 months in prison. On Oct. 20, 2023, Judge Williams sentenced Kennedy Ikponmwosa to 87 months in prison. And on Nov. 2, 2023, Judge Williams sentenced Peter Ezennia Neboh to 128 months in prison. Judge Williams also ordered Ezemma and his co-defendants to pay more than $6 million in restitution to their over 400 victims
.

The Consumer Protection Branch, USPIS and HSI investigated the case.

Senior Trial Attorney and Transnational Criminal Litigation Coordinator Phil Toomajian and Trial Attorneys Josh Rothman and Brianna Gardner of the Justice Department’s Consumer Protection Branch are prosecuting the case.

The Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida and Europol all provided critical assistance.

PoliticsPlanned Protest: Foreigners Arrives Kaduna From Neighboring Countries In North by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 10:06pm On Jul 25, 2024
A group, Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Kaduna state, has alleged that the reports reaching the executive indicated that foreigners from Northern neighboring countries had already arrived in Kaduna State ready to join the demonstration and make it violent.

The group however, kicked against the move, saying it will jeopardize the safety of the event and compromise the message of the demonstration, according to the communique of the forum’s second executive meeting made available to newsmen Wednesday in Kaduna.

According to them, “While the Kaduna State Chapter of the MBF acknowledges that peaceful demonstration is legitimate and necessary over the current hardships faced in the country and the need to draw government attention, the involvement of violent sponsored foreigners has raised genuine security concerns to the Chapter.

“Consequently, the forum advised all our youth from the Middle Belt resident in Kaduna State to refrain from participating in the protest not only over security and safety concerns, but not to be used to achieve the curious objectives of the sponsors. Our youths, known for their orderliness, civility, and discipline, must not be associated with inappropriate acts.

“The security situation has been reported to the national president of the MBF, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, who is currently gathering feedbacks from other states of the Middle Belt before issuing an official position on behalf of the entire Middle Belters.

Earlier, the communiqué signed Yusuf Solomon Danbaki, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kaduna State Chapter, MBF, stated that the meeting was chaired by Chairman of MBF, Kaduna State Chapter, Comrade Luka Binniyat, who relayed the congratulatory and goodwill messages of the President of the MBF, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, to the newly elected exco of the Kaduna State Chapter.

“The Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Kaduna Chapter held its 2nd executive meeting yesterday in Kaduna. The meeting was chaired by Comrade Luka Binniyat, Chairman of MBF, Kaduna State Chapter.

“Binniyat relayed the congratulatory and goodwill messages of the President of the MBF, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, to the newly elected exco of the Kaduna State Chapter.

“According to him, Dr. Pogu regards the Kaduna State chapter as very critical in the scheme of the MBF, bearing in mind its strategic location in Nigeria and its cosmopolitan nature that accommodates a huge array of Middle Belters.

“A key item on the agenda was the outreach to over 40 ethnic nationalities represented in various socio-cultural ethnic groups from the 14 Middle Belt States resident in Kaduna State and other 57 ethnic nationalities indigenous to Southern Kaduna, which make up the MBF, Kaduna State branch.

“The meeting, which was attended by 22 out of the 27 exco members, agreed that it was time members of the Middle Belt resident in Kaduna State unite as a common front in the interest of their wellbeing, the progress and development of Kaduna State, and Nigeria as a whole.

“With the permission of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the MBF, Barrister Catherine Doosuur Ishu from Benue State was nominated to serve as the Legal Adviser of the MBF, Kaduna State Chapter.

“There was also an initiative for an upcoming Middle Belt Cultural Festival for Middle Belters resident in Kaduna State, for which a committee was set up to kick-start the process.

“It is headed by the Organising Secretary of the Chapter, Hon. Ezekiel Babakarik. The aim is simply to celebrate the region’s rich cultural diversity, taking a break from lamenting the adversity that the Middle Belt has been plunged into for years now.

“During the meeting, concerns were raised about the planned peaceful protest scheduled for August 1st – 10th, 2024. Reports reaching the exco indicated that foreigners from northern neighboring countries had already arrived in Kaduna State ready to join the demonstration and make it violent.

“If so, that will jeopardize the safety of the event and compromise the message of the demonstration. While the Kaduna State Chapter of the MBF acknowledges that peaceful demonstration is legitimate and necessary over the current hardships faced in the country and the need to draw government attention, the involvement of violent sponsored foreigners has raised genuine security concerns to the chapter.

PoliticsDon’t Participate In Nationwide Protest – ECWA Tells Members by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 8:39pm On Jul 25, 2024
The Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA, says as a denomination, it would not be part of any protest against the government of President Bola Tinubu.

It warned its entire members in every part of the country not to partake in any protest against the government.

A statement issued by ECWA Public Relations Officer, Rev. Ibrahim Kassim, said, “ECWA as a denomination wishes to inform the general public that we are not part of the planned protest, and we are calling on our members to disregard the action in totality, and not to participate in any way.

“We are all aware that protests can take different dimensions as witnessed during the EndSARS protest when hoodlums infiltrated the protesters and wrecked serious havoc that led to the loss of many lives and properties.”

He noted that considering the volatile nature of protests in Nigeria that may be hijacked by miscreants and result in humongous damages, members of the denomination should stay clear from any protest in the country.

Assuming this video is real, which I am leaning towards, then this is more reason why Nnamdi Kanu Would never be released.

PoliticsHardship: NLC, Student Unions Kick Against Planned Mass Protest by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 7:47am On Jul 24, 2024
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), student unions, and other civil society organisations have pulled out from the planned mass protest scheduled to hold on August 1, 2024.

The leadership of the unions’ Jigawa State chapters disclosed this while speaking at the town hall meetings held on Monday at the Banquet Hall, Government House Dutse.

The meeting aimed to discuss how to join hands with critical stakeholders to tackle economic challenges and advise people not to become agents of national destruction.

According to them, the state government is doing its best to alleviate the suffering of the common man; therefore, the planned mass protest has no basis in Jigawa State.

They explained that the state government has initiated various empowerment programmes that are touching the lives of the masses at the grassroots level, including FADAMA CARES.

According to them, “The project employs a scientific and unbiased mode of selecting beneficiaries irrespective of their social differences, and under the programme, thousands of poor and vulnerable people are directly benefiting.”

“Government is also employing youth, increasing scholarships for students, and ensuring the payment of salaries and other benefits.”

State Commissioner of Police, CP A.T. Abdullahi, noted that Jigawa is the most peaceful state in the nation, therefore, there is a need to maintain the tempo.

He explained that most protests are being hijacked by criminals who don’t want good for the country.

“The process will be taken over by undesirable elements, leading to a crisis,” the CP said.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting the lives and properties of the citizens.

PoliticsShelve Proposed Nationwide Protest, IG Tells Organisers by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 4:15am On Jul 24, 2024
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, yesterday warned groups planning and mobilising for a nationwide protest against economic hardship in the country scheduled to begin August 1, 2024, to have a re-think and jettison the plan because it is ill-advised.

He spoke against the backdrop of viral social media campaigns about the proposed protest which is gaining momentum, adding that the country had had its fair share of violent protests with dastardly consequences.

Speaking at a meeting with DIGs, AIGs and command police commissioners of the 36 states and FCT in Abuja, Egbetokun reminded Nigerians that the last #EndSARS protest aggravated crime rates and insecurity in several parts.

He said: “Before concluding this address, it is important I address an issue of urgent national importance which appears to have gained some momentum, particularly on social media, in the past few weeks.

“Some groups of people, self-appointed crusaders and influencers, have been strategizing and mobilizing potential protesters to unleash terror in the land under the guise of replicating the recent Kenya protests.

“While the force acknowledges the right to peaceful protest as enshrined in our constitution, we must ensure that these protests do not snowball into violence or disorder.

“As a nation, we have had more than our fair share of violent protests, with rather dastardly consequences.

“The last #EndSARS protest led to one-tenth destruction of public assets, including police stations, courts, and transport infrastructure, as well as the loss of several lives. Tales of sorrow, tears, and blood followed what was supposedly intended to be a well-intentioned exercise.

“Rather than lead to any positive outcome, #EndSARS merely aggravated crime rates and insecurity in several parts of the country. Indeed, we are yet to fully recover from the huge economic losses and deep-seated psychological and emotional trauma inflicted upon our people by these protests.”

Consequently, Egbetokun urged the citizens to jettison the proposed protest, insisting that the police had a responsibility to protect citizens and their properties.

“Our position is that the proposed violent protests are ill-advised and should be jettisoned fortuitously. We have the responsibility to protect properties and everyone, irrespective of their race, colour, ethnicity, or tribe, who are lawfully embarking on their daily activities.

“We will, therefore, not sit back and fold our arms to watch violent activities unleashed on our peaceful communities or destroy any of our national critical infrastructure and assets again,” he added.

The IGP said measures were in place to ensure that any hoodlums attempting to disguise themselves as protesters would be apprehended.

He said: “We have mapped out plans to ensure that no individual or group succeeds in fostering a reign of terror and anarchy on other law-abiding and dissolving Nigerians.”

The senate and house of representatives have embarked on their annual recess.

The two chambers of the national assembly commenced the recess after passing some crucial bills.

Some bills passed by the national assembly include the amendment to the minimum wage law, President Bola Tinubu’s request to increase the 2024 budget by N6.2 trillion, and an amendment to the 2023 Finance Act, among others.

Speaking on Tuesday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio said Tinubu may sign the minimum wage bill before Friday.

“We are hoping that Mr. President signs the minimum wage bill before Friday,” Akpabio said.

The national assembly also passed a bill seeking to impose a one-time windfall tax on banks for foreign exchange earnings.

However, some committees of the national assembly are scheduled to meet this week and next, while both chambers will resume on September 17.

Perhaps, you haven't had female managers. They are the meanest as they often over compensate to prevent people from seeing them as weak. Infact, that was what people thought of Hillary. Alot of Democrats did not vote for her because they thought she will start a war and Trump was untested.

Now that Trump is already tested, those Dems that did not vote Hilary and later regretted will likely not make that mistake with Harris.
