PoliticsBusinesses Grounded As Flood Takes Over Abia Road Just Commissioned By Alex Otti by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 5:31pm On Oct 14, 2024
The road, which had initially raised hopes for better infrastructure and ease of access, has now become a source of frustration as severe flooding plagues the area.

Motorists and commuters along the busy Udeagbara Bypass Road in Ahiaba Umueze Owuala in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State during the weekend were stranded, owing to a gridlock caused by flood in the aftermath of a heavy downpour.

SaharaReporters learnt that the road was recently commissioned by Governor Alex Otti.

“Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has continued to match words with action with the formal commissioning of three-newly reconstructed roads in Aba. “The roads are Udeagbala Road, Umuimo Road and MCC/Old Express Road.

“Governor Otti described the three roads as strategic, saying that the Udeagbala and Umuimo roads in particular are more or less alternative from the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway into the busy Aba-Owerri Road and to Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) road, while the MCC/Old Express Road would boost the economy of Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the State,” a statement by Kazie Uko, the governor’s former Chief Press Secretary had read during the commissioning.

However, few months after the road was opened, residents have expressed deep concerns over the failure of the newly rehabilitated road and drainage system.

The road, which had initially raised hopes for better infrastructure and ease of access, has now become a source of frustration as severe flooding plagues the area.

It was learnt that the community, which houses the Abia State Teaching Hospital, is facing significant challenges as the drainage system, meant to alleviate flooding, has failed to perform its intended purpose.

As a result, residents are now left grappling with constant waterlogging, making it difficult to carry out their daily activities.

Many have reported having to wait until floodwaters subside before leaving their homes, especially after rainfalls.

In a live video shared by a community member, Possible Nwaohamuo on Sunday, he highlighted the extent of the problem.

In the video, Nwaohamuo made the appeal to the state government, urging for immediate intervention.

He pointed out that the floodwaters from the failed drainage system have not only taken over homes but have also severely affected schools and places of worship in the area.

“The flooding is a disaster for our community,” Nwaohamuo said during his broadcast.

“We can no longer go about our daily activities in peace. Our children cannot go to school, and our places of worship are submerged. We need the government to come to our rescue.

“Despite the rehabilitation project being relatively new, its failure has raised questions about the quality of work done and the long-term sustainability of such projects.”

Do u realize there are more lgb0s in Ekiti than Yorubas in Abia?
If we remove Lagos out of the equation, there are more lgb0s in SW than Yorubas in SE.
Lagos stopped being FCT over 30 years ago, if Lagos didn't do any development in that over 30 years, there will be no development there, you FCT talk is Iame.
Why is Enugu not more advanced and developed than Anambra since it was the former capital of Eastern Nigeria or your capital logic does not apply there?
I saw a video of them jumping on a night buses fleeing to Ibadan the other day. Another one of them jumping in cattle trucks to flee to the SW.

This is different. Lekki free trade was a high risk, unknown factor 20 or 25 years ago, so the vision needed to be sold to foreign investors.

This is completely different. None of Lagos, Lekki, or the potential of an airport is an unknown quantity the way an abstract free zone area in the Lekki area was years back. So there are many international companies interested in getting involved in the airport.

Also, a single Nigerian can finance this project from start to finish, and just bring in an international operator to manage the airport on an O & M basis. Bringing a Turkish company to build the airport on a 25, 30 or more years concession is not an optimum way of going about this. It's just the usual African mentality of selling off everything to foreigners.

And you questioning my intellect grin What will one not hear on Nairaland.
This one doesn't even know the airport is going to be located within the Lekki free trade zone. Look at how he is contradicting himself in a bid to sound intelligent LMAO.

Politics77 Communities In Anambra Have No Public Schools – Soludo by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 7:12am On Sep 27, 2024
Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has disclosed that up to 77 communities in the state lack public schools.

He pointed out that his administration is working to address the concern and provide options for Anambra people, assuring to continue to provide the resources for continuous learning by teachers.

Soludo who was speaking at a meeting with heads of public schools in Anambra, said: “Securing our future is a collective effort. We must seize the opportunity now.

“It is the greatest investment we can make. 77 communities in this state have no public schools, so this is something we are working towards.

“We inherited arrears of pensions and gratuities. We will soon complete the payments.

“Anyone that retires under my watch usually get their entitlements after successful documentation.

“Though I have approval to borrow 100 billion naira since I came in, we haven’t borrowed. This is because we don’t want to encumber the future. I will borrow to build capacity for the future.

“Under my watch, we are going to maintain fiscal sustainability.”

The governor enumerated the strides of his administration in all sectors of the state economy, including recruitment of 8,115 teachers, recruitment of over 1,000 doctors and health personnel, empowerment of 5000 youths and additional 8000 youths in the “one youth, two skills entrepreneurship scheme”

PoliticsPeter Obi Calls For Arrest, Prosecution Of Those Behind Threat Against Igbos by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 2:43pm On Aug 02, 2024
Social media has been awash with a hashtag, asking the Igbos to vacate Lagos and the other South-West states.

But Obi, a former Anambra State governor, condemned the ultimatum on Igbos, describing it as deeply disturbing.

“Immediate action should be taken to investigate, arrest, and prosecute those behind this heinous agenda, serving as a deterrent to others who might consider pursuing similar paths that threaten our national security and unity,” he said.

“Similarly, and deeply disturbing, I have read genocidal threats on X against the Igbo tribe, calling for their relocation. Let me pointedly warn that such rhetoric threatens our unity and is fundamentally opposed to our Constitution, which guarantees every Nigerian the right to live and work freely anywhere in the country. Those in authority must show leadership and urgently speak out against such divisive rhetoric.”

Obi urged all “Nigerians to stand united against this divisive rhetoric and to champion unity, tolerance, and understanding,” arguing that “Our future depends on our ability to live and work together harmoniously.”

He also wants the government and security agencies to “act swiftly to protect this fundamental principle and ensure that every Nigerian can live free from fear of discrimination or persecution. We must not allow our present challenges to drive wedges among us.”

PoliticsNasarawa Youths Shun Hunger Protest by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 1:56pm On Aug 01, 2024
Nasarawa Youths have, so far, shunned the planned nationwide protest across the 13 local government areas of the state.

Nigerians began a nationwide protest against hunger across the country on Thursday.

Our correspondent who went around Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital on Thursday to monitor the situation observed that Makurdi/Jos and Shandam roads leading to the government house, Lafia were deserted as security operatives were seen stationed at flash points to control any possible outbreak of law and order in the state.

Our correspondent also reports that in the Lafia metropolis people were seen going about their lawful businesses without any form of harassment.

Other areas visited by our correspondent in the Lafia local government area of the state included UAC, Kwandere, Makurdi roads, and Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 Polytechnic Lafia were deserted as youths, market men and women were seen peacefully going about their lawful businesses without any hindrance or molestation from security operatives in the state.

Our correspondent said the situation in Nasarawa state was generally peaceful across the 13 local government areas with no form of violence or sign of destruction of government properties.

However, some shops in the state were partially under lock and key for fear of being attacked.

The commissioner of police, Mr Umar Shehu-Nadada, was seen in a convoy going around the state capital alongside other security agencies to monitor the situation.

PoliticsItsekiri Leaders Of Thought Dissociate Itsekiri Nation From The Proposed Protest by Ibrahimcoomasie(op): 9:53pm On Jul 30, 2024
Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, ILoT has dissociated the Itsekiri nation from the proposed mass protest billed to commence from August 1st.

In a statement signed by the Chairman Chief Edward Ekpoko and the Secretary Sir Sunny Mene of the apex Itsekiri platform, ILoT also urged the government at all levels in the country to take steps to redress challenges arising from hardship plaguing the country.

The statement reads: ” The Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILoT), a socio-political organization of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality worldwide held an emergency meeting on Sunday, 28th day of July 2024, at Warri, Delta State on the state of the nation, particularly the intended Nation-wide protest scheduled to begin on 1st August 2024.

“The leadership noted that The current economic hardship faced by Nigerians, especially our teeming and un-employed youths is worrisome and of concern to all. Our thoughts are with them. Government at all levels should do more to ameliorate this hardship.

“Peaceful protest as a means of expressing grievances is guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution and other international statutes to which Nigeria is a signatory.

The planned nationwide protest is devoid of any clear agenda, and demands (if met) can only lead to a state of anarchy.

“The organizers of the protest, who are mainly living in the diaspora, whose identities are not clear for now or kept secret and some politicians, make it worrisome. It also makes the whole exercise look like it is predetermined to effect the turbulence of a mob and therefore stand the risk of being hijacked by hoodlums as in the case of the now infamous END SARS PROTEST of October 2020. We are yet to recover from the effect of that protest.

“The Arab Spring in North Africa which started on 17th December 2010, after a series of anti-government protests, hijacked by hoodlums, left almost the entire region without a stable government to date. This has resulted in huge illegal migration to Europe and other parts of the world at great danger to human lives. We do not wish that for Nigeria and Nigerians.

“We note the efforts of the Federal Government to ameliorate the harsh condition Nigerians are facing and ask that the government be given time to carry out its reform programmes. All tiers of government states and local governments, should do more.

“The Itsekiri Leaders of Thought disassociates itself and indeed the entire Itsekiri people worldwide from the proposed nationwide protest scheduled to begin on August 1, 2024, or any other date for the time being.

“We call on all Itsekiri sons and daughters, especially our youths not to participate in the said protest.

“A protest of this nature is an ill wind that will do no one any good.”
