So?
Better to try than not try at all. If you are in business development, do you quit because one prospect turns you down?

Same Tinubu was able to woo chinese investors to Nigeria to build the Lekki free trade zone.

He is not even up to 1 year in his tenure yet.

Politics / Sanwo-Olu, Abiru Visits Umahi To Express Appreciation For Ikorodu-Itokin Road by Ibrahimcoomasie: 2:43pm On Apr 27
I, alongside Senator Tokunbo Abiru, visited the Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi to express appreciation for the ongoing 34km Ikorodu-Itokin road reconstruction.

The road, originally built in 1975 under General Yakubu Gowon and General Mobolaji Johnson, is crucial for economic growth. Senator Abiru's motion in April 2021 emphasized the road's significance as a key access point linking various parts of the country.

We advocated for the dualisation of the road to enhance its capacity. Minister Umahi assured us that the design for the dualisation would commence soon. The current rehabilitation work has already improved travel along the corridor.

We also extended our thanks to HE President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his consistent support for road infrastructure projects nationwide.

Travel / Air Peace Plane Makes Emergency Landing At Lagos Airport by Ibrahimcoomasie: 7:54am On Apr 26
An Air Peace plane coming from Port Harcourt made an emergency landing at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on Thursday after the pilots noticed a fire warning indicator in the cockpit.

The aircraft, which had 243 passengers and 12 crew members on board, landed safely at 4:45pm on Runway18L of the Lagos airport.

The pilots immediately shut down the engines of the aircraft after fire fighting personnel reportedly observed smoke on the engines.

The call sign of the aircraft is: APK7193.

Air Peace, in a statement, said it was later discovered that the fire warning noticed in the cockpit was false.

The statement was titled, “Notification of false fire alarm on Port Harcourt-Lagos flight.”

It read, “We wish to inform the flying public of an incident that occurred during our Port Harcourt-Lagos flight P47193 of today, April 25, 2024.

“Some minutes before landing, our Captain noticed a fire warning indicator in the cockpit. The pilots performed all safety precautionary measures, and the fire indicator went off. The Captain immediately notified our Operations Control Centre in Lagos at 17:37 hrs.

“It was determined upon landing that the alarm was falsely triggered as there was no fire event. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers disembarked normally.

“We want to reassure the flying public that safety remains our utmost priority, and we are unwavering in our commitment to it.”

Politics / Traders Count Losses As Government Demolishes Shops, Houses In Ebonyi by Ibrahimcoomasie: 6:18am On Apr 25
Traders and landlords in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, are counting their losses following the demolition of shops and residential buildings along Ogoja Road and Vanco junction.

It was gathered that the government wanted to build a flyover at the popular Ogoja road and Vanco junction which led to the demolition.

However, traders and landlords that inhabit that area are lamenting bitterly over the level of damages and losses they have incurred over the sudden demolition, saying that they are stranded and don’t know what to do.

In an interview with some of the affected traders in the area who gave their names as Anayo and Chimezie lamented bitterly over the sudden demolition of their shops without any valid notice to that effect, saying that their goods were outside since they didn’t know where to pack them.

They further noted that no form of compensation had been given to them by the government, but only forms were submitted.

“It’s not as if we don’t like development, but this demolition affected me a lot because there was no single information nor notice given to us to vacate this place before this demolition.

“See how everybody is running helter skelter; some even sustained injury. We don’t even have a place to pack our goods. We are not happy at all.

Politics / Ministry Of Works Replies Critics of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway by Ibrahimcoomasie: 8:40am On Apr 24
Those Criticizing the Ongoing Lagos- Calabar Coastal Highway Project Being Done by The Renewed Hope Administration Of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Either Have Little Knowledge of the Concept of EPC+F On Project Financing Or Are Deliberately Sacrificing The Cause Of Development At The Altar Of Politics.

The trending posts of criticisms by some notable politicians on the propriety and priority of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project being executed by the Renewed Hope administration of His Excellency President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR are no doubt baseless thoughts of critics who are either bereft of the knowledge of the workings of the project initiative or they deliberately want to sacrifice the modest developmental efforts of Mr. President at the altar of their political ambitions.

It is unthinkable that such highly placed people fail to understand the various elucidations provided by the Honourable Minister of Works, His Excellency, Sen Engr Nweze David Umahi CON on when the project was conceptualized, the various administrations that attempted but failed to carry out the project, the economic and technical considerations that gave rise to the commencement of the project under the Renewed Hope administration, the funding and procurement details and indeed the dimensions, importance, priority and propriety of the projects in the national developmental trajectory.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Lagos- Calabar coastal highway project is being done under EPC +F. What does this type of funding entail? This is a project financing mechanism in which EPC+F contractors also arrange financing for the project. EPC+F is Engineering, Procurement and Construction plus Financing. Engineering here includes design and specification. This initiative provides a fixed price, fixed date, and transfers risks to the contractor. This type of funding requires only a counter- part funding from the Federal Government. Such funds are sourced by contractors where they have confidence in the economic policies of government, which essentially entails allowing the participation of the private sector in the road infrastructure development through PPP or EPC+F.

In the recent Inauguration of the Committee on Compensation of owners of properties that will be affected by section 1 of the Lagos- Calabar Coastal Highway, the Honourable Minister emphasized the nature of the project funding and the workings of EPC + F when he said, "And graciously, Mr. President had approved that this section three will start from Calabar, which is the end point of the project, and start running towards Akwa Ibom. So, the 700 km is procured under phase one, in phases, and it's EPC +F. EPC+F is engineering, procurement, construction, and finance. And so, under this kind of arrangement, the contractor is expected to bring in a certain amount of money, and Federal Government is expected to pay certain counterpart funding."

No patriotic Nigerian should discourage this kind of project where funding is substantially from the contractor. There is no doubt that Mr. President is aggressively tackling the backlogs of uncompleted road projects. In the 2023 Supplementary Budget, Mr. President approved funds for intervention on the over 260 dilapidated roads nationwide. The 2024 appropriation made provision for capital investment on our critical roads across the 6 Geo- political zones of Nigeria.

The Honourable Minister has already made a great difference in the road infrastructure development roadmap of this administration through his new innovations on road construction and rehabilitation, his power of supervision, and his contract negotiation power which is second to none in the history of the Federal Ministry of Works. He has been touring around and supervising the various ongoing projects of the federal government, and the difference is already there. The people are testifying of the quality and speed of road projects being executed by the Renewed Hope administration. He has proven track records on road infrastructure development. He is not into rhetorics like many politicians who talk high but can do only less. The administration of President Tinubu is doing roads that will stand the test of time. The roads he is fixing will facilitate economic recovery. The patriotic Nigerians are already applauding the good efforts of Mr. President, but professional politicians are busy criticizing a landmark project that will launch Nigeria into the league of the best economies of the continent.

On the importance of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project to the economy of the nation, it is clear that the coastal highway, when completed, will foster national economic growth. Notably,
all roads in the country are important as reflected by the interventions of this administration on road rehabilitation across the nation, but the coastal highway offers much more economic benefits to the nation because of its connectivity to the North and South through the existing spurs. The road, when completed, has the potential to increase Nigeria’s GDP and trigger industrialisation, create trade, enhance the transportation of goods and services, and safety of road users.

The road is going to be the biggest super highway in Africa in terms of the structure and solidity as we all as utility value, having ten lanes with a rail track designed for concrete technology, covering 700 kilometers. It is going to attract foreign direct investment to Nigeria, and it is going to trigger economic development. It is going to develop the potential of our coastal businesses, especially at the local economic corridors, and boost tourism and marine businesses.

Politics / Omokri's $10,000 Challenge: Obi's Supporters Can't Find School Built By Him by Ibrahimcoomasie: 12:19am On Apr 23
Supporters of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi have not been able to come up with one school started and completed by him in his eight years reign as Anambra Governor.

Reno Omokri, a former presidential spokesman had challenged Obi’s supporters, popularly known as ‘Obidients’ to name one school started, completed and finished by the former Anambra State governor in his eight years reign and he would give anyone who could name one $10,000.

Omokri took to his X handle on Monday to say that no Obidient supporter had been able to come up with one school built by the former governor.

“Ninety-six hours after I gave the challenge, nobody has been able to name one school that Peter Obi initiated, started, completed and finished in the eight years he was Governor of Anambra.

“Instead, they have responded with insults, abuses and threats. I can name multiple schools built by Local Government and LCDA Chairmen in Lagos.

“Now, please just name one school initiated, started, completed and commissioned by Peter Obi in Anambra and win ₦11,400,000,” he tweeted.

Politics / Re: Peter Obi, Hypocrisy, And Lunatics - Michael Chibuzo by Ibrahimcoomasie: 4:18pm On Apr 16
I understand that Mr. Peter Obi is always angry every day that he wakes up and remembers that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is still the president and will likely remain there for the next 7 years. That's why all he thinks about is how to remove him from the back door. If Obi and his people are not advocating for the people to rise and invade the seat of power, they are advocating for a system of government where they ignorantly feel President Bola Tinubu can be removed easily.

Just know this, Mr. Peter Obi, you're not going to be Nigeria's President through the back door. The voice of the people is the voice of God and majority have rejected you twice now. With every passing day you keep losing majority of Nigerians with your brand of gloomy, fascist and deceitful politics. Being a substandard waterman for few settlements North won't change that narrative anytime soon.

Politics / Peter Obi, Hypocrisy, And Lunatics - Michael Chibuzo by Ibrahimcoomasie: 4:18pm On Apr 16
PETER OBI, HYPOCRISY AND LUNATICS

By Michael Chibuzo

I just listened to a video clip where Peter Obi was ignorantly mischaracterising Nigeria's presidential system of government in the US. He went as far as describing Commissioners and Ministers created by the Constitution as lunatics. Ironically, Peter Obi worked with lunatics for 8 years as Governor of Anambra State and planned to work with lunatics as VP under Atiku in 2019. Most recently, he attempted to be the leader of lunatics if he had won the 2023 presidential election.

Meanwhile, throughout the 2023 presidential election season, Peter Obi never for once campaigned to push for a switch from presidential to parliamentary system of government if elected as president. He did not indicate that in a presidential system, the President is 'not' answerable to the people. In fact he wanted to be that president who is not answerable to the people. Until he lost and suddenly remembered that the parliamentary system is the best system of government.

Funny enough, the Peter Obi hypocrisy is so glaring to see. This is a man that was Governor for 8 years and employed Commissioners (who he now refers as bunch of lunatics) to defend him such as Prof. Stella Okunna. He did not see them as lunatics then.

I would have loved to ask Obi how he was accountable to the people in his 8 years in office as Governor of Anambra State and yet couldn't conduct LGA elections without fear of any consequence from the people.

Peter Obi has made it his favourite past time to continuously unravel his ignorance at every given opportunity. The mere fact that he feels having a presidential media chat or addressing NASS in a state of the Union equates to being accountable to the people shows how ignorant he is about the workings of the presidential system he wants to become president under.

@PeterObi let me educate you briefly. In our presidential system, a president is accountable to the electorates who elected him. He is checked by the national assembly, which is made up of representatives from various constituencies and can be removed from office by these lawmakers before the expiration of his term in office, who are acting on behalf of their constituents. In essence, if people from many constituencies feel the President has committed offences that warrant removal, they can pressure their representatives to commence the process of impeachment and removal from office of the President.

In the Parliamentary system that Obi feel is easier to remove the President/Prime Minister, I'm sure he doesn't even understand how it works. Leadership change can only occur WITHIN THE PARTY with the majority before the next general election. So, if we were practicing a parliamentary system and Tinubu happened to be Nigeria's Prime Minister, it means that APC has the absolute majority in Parliament, enough to form government and Tinubu, who was elected first as a member of Parliament also doubles as the Leader of the APC.

So, any leadership change or vote of no confidence by the Parliament would have to come principally from APC members in the Parliament before it will succeed and not necessarily the electorates or opposition MPs. In the end, it's even worse than the presidential system in terms of accountability to the people because another individual in the party with the majority (APC) who was not DIRECTLY voted for by the people to become president/prime minister of Nigeria can emerge as prime minister in a twinkle of an eye if there is an internal rebellion within the APC - not necessarily emanating from the people.

Video of Peter Obi's speech:

Politics / NLC Rejects Abure's Re-election As LP National Chairman by Ibrahimcoomasie: 8:36pm On Mar 27
NLC rejects Abure's re-election as LP national chairman as Abure declares NLC and TUC positions vacant.

The Nigeria Labour Congress has rejected the re-election of Julius Abure as Labour party's national chairman vowing not to accord him any form of recognition.

Abure was returned as the party national chairman at a national convention of the party held in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Wednesday.

The convention also saw all members of the National Working Committee return.

The slots for representatives of both the NLC and the Trade Union Congress were, however, left vacant.

NLC spokesman, Benson Upah, while reacting to the news, vowed that the congress will never back the party under Abure’s leadership.

While describing the convention as a charade, Upah told our reporter that the return of the national chairman was a nullity as far as the NLC is concerned.

He said, “It’s an illegality, a nullity. The whole exercise was a charade! Nothing can legitimise such brazen impunity.”

Politics / Re: Why Are There No Retaliatory Attacks By Soldiers In The North? by Ibrahimcoomasie: 4:37pm On Mar 24
There have been several retaliatory attacks. Perhaps you don't read the news.

Google will be very useful here.

floret23:
Anytime soldiers are attacked in the southern part of Nigeria, the whole army barracks close by will go to the community where the incidence happened to cause mayhem killing scores of innocents indiscriminately, burning as many houses as possible and displacing thousands of people without restraint. In facts, in the past an ex-president had instructed the army on different to destroy different towns and villages because soldiers were attacked there.

It's so unfortunate that at times attack helicopters were used to bomb hell out of the surrounding villages whenever foot soldiers find it difficult to penetrate. The ones that occur in Delta and Bayelsa states are the most recent. It's sad that this barbarical behavior is proudly supported by politicians at all levels.

However the situation is different in the northern part of the country. Terrorists (bandits and Fulani herdsmen) kill soldiers for fun (most of which didn't get to the media) and the worst thing Nigerian army would do was to retreat. I have never heard of soldiers killing people and burning down the whole town for the sin of a handful of criminals in Northern Kaduna, Bornu or Zamfara.

There are many videos of soldiers being harassed, intimidated and chased away in the North. Drivers can come down from their vehicles and dismantle military checkpoints. Something that is tantamount to suicide if it is done in the South.

I wish to understand the rationale behind this double standards. Are Southerners less human or second class citizens? Who actually owns Nigeria?

Please note:
I do not support killing of soldiers or policemen. My view is that vulnerable people in the society should not be hold responsible for the sin of others who are mostly machineries to politicians. Only the finger that sins should be cut.

Business / MIDOil To Build 100,000BPD Modular Refinery In Lagos by Ibrahimcoomasie: 4:05am On Mar 21
MIDOil Refining and Petrochemicals Company Limited has concluded plans to commence the construction of a 100,000 barrels per day modular refinery at Sekungba/Ejinrin, Ikosi/Ejinrin Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

The Executive Chairman of MIDOil, Mrs Elizabeth-Omolara Akintonde, disclosed during the unveiling of a three-in-one investment opportunity recently.

According to Akintonde, the desire to establish a refinery was conceived over a decade ago with an official of the then Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi.

“As a marketer of refined petroleum products since 1984, I saw the need to contribute to the growth of our dear country, Nigeria, and Hajiya Amina Abdullahi agreed. This gave birth to the present move to establish a modular refinery in Lagos State,” she said.

Akintonde said the refining company was registered on April 12, 2012.

The MIDOil Refining and Petrochemicals Company chairman explained that a large expanse of land was acquired from the administration of former Governor Babatunde Fashola, stating that the land allocation letter was received from the Lagos State Government on April 24, 2014.

“Subsequently, on January 24, 2017, we have approved the licenses to establish by the then Department of Petroleum Resources,” she remarked.

Speaking on the delay in executing the project, Akintonde said: “It has taken MIDOil 10 years to secure interested investors that are willing to invest in Nigeria and in our project. But to the glory of God Almighty, we now have three consortiums of investors willing to invest $5bn with us.

“The sourcing of the investment from overseas and the required licenses from the agencies of the Nigerian government, like the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, the Federal and State Ministries of Environment, the state Ministry of Waterways, the Nigerian Navy, and the police, have been the major reasons for the delay.”

According to Akintonde, July 12 has been scheduled for the groundbreaking of the proposed modular refinery.

That, she said, would also include the establishment of MIDOil Filling Stations nationwide.

While presenting cheques to the host communities, Akintonde urged the Lagos State Government and community leaders to check the excesses of land grabbers in the state.

She appealed to the government to educate traditional settlers to support efforts by companies to transform their communities for good, expressing concern over the spate of land grabbing in the communities where the refinery would be sited.

When completed, the 100,000 barrels per day refinery will be the second in Lagos after the Dangote oil refinery.

Politics / Adeleke Berated For Renovating Govt House With ₦‎1 Billion Amid Hardship by Ibrahimcoomasie: 4:14am On Mar 19
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has been berated by All Progressives Congress (APC), for refurbishing Government House with alleged N1billion.

Governor Adeleke had last Saturday opened the newly-rehabilitated Government House in Osogbo with top officials and dignitaries joining him for inspection of the facilities.

A statement by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said “the rehabilitation covers the main house, the completion of an abandoned multi-bedroom guest house, remodelling of many of the structures, refixing of many derelict facilities and facelift of the entire Government House.”

Reacting, APC through its state Chairman, Kola Olabisi, yesterday described the inauguration as a misplaced priority.

He said: “It is a shame that Governor Adeleke could be involved in flaunting the Government House rehabilitated with N1billion in this austere period and when Osun State has been declared the corporate headquarters of poverty in Yorubaland.”

Politics / Sowore Deletes Fake Okuama Reprisal Attack Video, Apologises To Army by Ibrahimcoomasie: 4:04am On Mar 19
Activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has apologised to the Nigerian Army (NA) for posting a video purportedly showing Okuama community in Ughelli South local government area of Delta State under military attack following the killing of 16 Army personnel of the 181 Amphibious Battalion in the State last Thursday.

The viral videos show some houses on fire and was allegedly blamed on the Army as a reprisal attack on the community where the Commanding Officer of the Army Battalion, three other senior officers and 12 soldiers were ambushed and killed by suspected youths of the community.

But, Sowore, who just returned to his family in the United States of America last week after about five years of being on trial in Nigeria for alleged terrorism, said he had discovered that the video was false as it depicts a different event that happened in the neighbouring Bayelsa State and not Delta State.

Politics / PH Refinery: Marketers Eye Fuel Price Reduction, Ready To Load by Ibrahimcoomasie: 2:29am On Mar 19
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria and the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria have projected a marginal reduction in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, produced from the Port Harcourt Refining Company once the plant begins operations next month.

IPMAN and MEMAN also declared their readiness to load products from the facility, as they urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to fulfill its promise of pumping put refined products from the plant in two weeks time.

On Friday, The PUNCH reported that the Group Managing Director, NNPCL, Mele Kyari, announced that the Port Harcourt refinery would commence operations in about two weeks time.

Kyari, who appeared before the Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigating the various Turn Around Maintenance projects of refineries, revealed that mechanical works had been completed on the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries, stressing that the Kaduna refinery would commence operations in December.

“We did a mechanical completion of the (Port Harcourt) refinery, that was what we said in December. We now have crude oil already stocked in the refinery. We are doing regulatory compliance tests that must happen in every refinery before you start it, and I assure you that this Port Harcourt refinery will start in the next two weeks.

“Completing the mechanical work means that you are done with the rehabilitation work, now you have to test to see how it works. Of course, we have also completed the mechanical work on the Warri refinery.

“It is also undergoing regulatory compliance; processes that we are doing with our regulator, and this will soon be completed and it will be ready. The Kaduna refinery will be ready by December. We have not reached that stage in Kaduna, but we promise Kaduna will be delivered by December,” Kyari had explained.

Reacting to this on Monday, the National President, IPMAN, Abubakar Maigandi, told our correspondent that marketers had been informed of the development and were ready to start lifting products.

He also stated that once products start coming out from the plant, the cost of petrol would reduce, but stressed that this would be a marginal reduction.

“As independent petroleum marketers, immediately we received the information, we told all our members to start preparing for loading, especially those in the South-South region of the country, because it is closer to them.

“So at any time they (NNPCL) say we should come and start loading, we are ready. We are just waiting for them to start,” the IPMAN president stated.

He added, “Price reduction is obvious when they start releasing products, and there will be availability because it would serve as support to the imported products. So we are expecting a change in price, for no matter how small the reduction is, it is still a reduction.

“Also, the commencement of operations there will create more employment for Nigerians. So it is a welcome development and IPMAN is happy about this, especially if products start coming out from the plant in the next two weeks as promised by NNPCL.”

On his part, the Executive Secretary, MEMAN, Clement Isong, stated that major oil marketers had been buying products from the trading arm of NNPCL, adding that this arm of the national oil firm would be in charge of the products to come out from the Port Harcourt refinery.

He noted that though the facility would not be able to provide all the volumes of petrol required by the consumers, MEMAN would definitely load from the plant by buying refined products through the trading arm of NNPCL.

“Sure, we have been buying from the trading arm of NNPCL and we will continue once products from the refinery are being released. On price reduction, this is going to be marginal, because the product is being produced in Nigeria,” he stated.

Kyari had told the Senate that over 450, 000 barrels of oil had been stocked into the Port Harcourt refinery, which means the plant is ready to deliver refined crude to the market.

“All crude lines are active and have actually delivered over 450,000 barrels into Port Harcourt refinery.

“We are confident of the integrity of it. Yes, there may be security issues, but also the government is responding to the situation,” the NNPCL boss had stated.

The Federal Government had announced in December 2023 that the mechanical completion of Port Harcourt refinery had been completed, stating that products from the plant would get to the market before the end of last year.

This, however, did not happen, as Nigerians anxiously await the production of refined petroleum products from refineries in Nigeria. Currently, Nigeria imports its refined petroleum products through the NNPCL.
