3hrs run time in 2023? Damien Chazelle is a fine film maker but my attention span recently have been on the edge so I'm avoiding movies over 2hrs runtime except it's absolutely necessary, so please was this worth the ridiculous runtime?

If you love Boogie Nights, you'll love this.
It has restless energy and isn't afraid to take a risk.
If you have a short attention span, this is not for you.
It's just the kind of movie you either hate or like, no inbetween.

You are on a Horror/Thriller run?
Yep.
I'm leisurely going through the "100 Best Horror Movies of the 21st Century" that I discovered on dreadit.

DOyaskii:

Btw

Gore Verbinski did a madness with a "A cure for Wellness" (2016). The concept was so rad, looked a movie that Ari Aster would totally make. So i still wonder why the reviews were mixed to negative and why it was a box office bomb.
The negative reviews boggles the mind.
The cinematography, music, the symbolism, acting, foreshadowing, atmosphere, etc are top notch.
The only issues I had are the length and pacing,
If they had edited out 20 minutes from the film, it would have become a tightly woven mystery horror, a la Ari Aster movies.

All in all, this is one of those times that reviews don't tell the whole story.

Okay

There are two movies I'm kinda finding it hard to read meanings to...believe me, I enjoyed them. I just couldn't fathom their messages.

1. The Menu &

2. Everything Everywhere All at once.

I could understand that number 2 was trying to portray a kind of invisible war we fight in our mind or thoughts. A kind of fights that goes on in a troubled mind to accept some new or old situations or circumstances. You know

And number 1 is just the hardest to read meaning to. Like, how did she escape not being cooked like others. Fine, she took charge like a customer should when a service is being rendered to her, got her food ordered her way and was allowed to leave. Others could have followed her way and do the same but didn't. Also, it seems the chef was trying to punish the invited guests or let say, tourists, on their untrustworthy behavior. But why die with them.

Please, share the message you think these amazing movies were trying to pass if you have watched them. Let's learn.

1....When she visited the chef's house, while glancing at the portraits, she noticed that he was the happiest when he was making a hamburger.
2....You answered your own question. The chef has already made up his mind to kill the guest so even if they had emulated the hooker, it wouldn't have made any difference. He only let her go because she wasn't part of his original plan.

The menu is utter nonsense if u look at it from a logical angle.

Why didn't anyone grow enough balls to smash the chefs head with a steel chair?

1....they are cowards.
2....the chef has his henchmen around him at all times, so even if someone had attempted to harm him, he'd have been thwarted just as quickly.

The shocking thing about Aster's movies is the complexity of his movies and people can still understand and enjoy it nonetheless, he's like the Christopher Nolan of Horror Movies- complex and still understandable and interesting

Concurred.

Boss, I see the movie as just weird. I think they tried too hard to make it “artsy”.

It's not an artsy movie in any sense.
It's a folk horror with a scandinavian flavor.

For real! The theme of the movie should be weird, not horror. I didn’t see anything in the movie for it to be classified as horror.

Then you weren't paying attention.

Midsommar 4:/10

A very weird movie that I think its primary aim is showing a culture of the Swedish people. It does this pretty well (don’t know if the depictions are accurate) without following it up with a compelling story to balance things. The movie gives a sense of something better to come, so you hang on, expectantly lipsrsealed only to end up disappointed at the end.

Everything about this movie is weird and I wouldn’t recommend it. The sex scene is something I have never seen. I have not been able to phantom it till today.

I wouldn’t advise anyone to go watch.

Love this movie.
Highly recommend.

I thought peeps here may have heard of it atleast. I'm a bit surprised. Oh well... Horror ain't my thing anyway.

If it's a conventional horror, people will talk about it.
In my experience, when a movie is way more puzzling than it's interesting, people will often disregard it.
I remember when people were excited about The Northman.
Everyone thought it's going to be something like Vikings but to our chagrin, it was an art movie.
And just like that, the buzz it generated prior to release, disappeared.
No one talked about it again.

it's basically experimenting a new style to story telling. It made almost 900k from a 15k budget.

So basically an indie art movie shot on a shoestring budget.
I watched something like that once and I loved it but it's a hit or miss.

The name is Coherence.

it's an indie experimental movie creating some buzz on Twitter.

Experimental movie?
Isn't that just a fancy way of saying 'art movie'?

Art movies are hit or miss.
Sometimes may be good, sometimes may be shit.

Why is the "Black Adam" poster in the back drop? Does it tie to Shazam 2? Thought everything concerning "Black Adam" moving forward in the DCU has gone cold?
It's a fanart poster,
it also has antispambot friendly URL.

From the very moment Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes) stood in front of the diners and opened his mouth, I was captivated. There's an almost hypnotic quality to his delivery. I found myself hanging on every word he spoke and felt a little bit impatient each time the camera panned to other characters.

The script is indeed stellar and very unusual. The cast brought the story alive and every minute of the movie is thrilling.

Magnifico!!

The moment I learnt Voldemort is the chef, I knew it's gonna be good.
Ralph Fiennes plays a villain so well.

It was decent quite alright but i felt it wasn't as "groundbreaking" as Netflix tout it to be and the build up to the heist was more profound than the heist itself....what do you think?

I felt the same way.
Interesting premise....
Cool concept....
