It's Howard her war vet husband I'm wondering about. Will she kill him or something?
Can't remember if I saw Howard in part 1 — X.

She didn't kill him, infact, they stayed married for many years.
The psychotic old couple in X (2022) were Pearl and Howard.
Pearl (2022) is Pearl's origin story.

Part 3 will focus on Maxine (Pearl's young doppelganger), the lone survivor of the massacre in X.

Pearl ......7.5/10

Great movie. Mia Goth is an incredible actress. Got a bright future ahead of her. One of the few slasher horrors I love.
The ending tho ain't straight forward. Kinda leaves the interpretation to the viewers.

What's there to interpret?
Pearl was a remorseless psychopath.
She started off her killing spree with small animals and ended up with actual humans.

What I want to know is how Howard went from a horrified war veteran to a willing psycho killer we saw in part 1.

You can say that again.
I'm not in the habit of doing it but I found myself skipping a lot of dialogue and scenes.
The movie was that boring.

Amsterdam (2022)....5

Good in some parts, but mostly painfully boring and uninteresting.
Bale was good as expected.
Infact everyone showed up, even the production design was excellent, but the talented cast weren't given a lot to work with.
The plot is a convoluted mess and it dragged on for too long.

A rare martial arts film from Korea.

Yea, I knew and understood all that but I still found the backstory for the main villain — the deformed woman a lil bit weird. I don't find it naturally flowing so well with the story. Especially, the old man backstory. What was his motivation for doing it, especially over decades, systematically creating what became of the woman.

You'd see if you try to understand Frank's arc, it tends to get shaky. The deformed woman's story was done well tho, her connection with wanting a baby of her own and growing familial relationship with Tess.
I wasn't satisfied with Frank's backstory, and seeing he's the catalyst of things in the movie.... Main reason why I say I find the backstory shaky.
What caused the decline in the small town that got people fleeing? How come he perpetrated that shït for years and people didn't come to know about it or when they knew didn't care much?
How did the BnB lodging company keep recommending the place to people? How don't they know people actually lodged there in that timeframe Bill Skarsgard character and Tess were there?

I'll just leave it at that. It's good but if you poke through its minute details, it tends to beg more questions.

The film is self aware and if there is any plot hole, it's deliberate.
In horror films, plot holes are utilized as plot device.
Without a plot device, the plot cannot be advanced, and if the plot cannot be advanced, there will be no story to tell.
All the things you pointed out are not really problematic to the story.

Motivations?
Serial killers have urges that they must satisfy and killing people gets their rocks off.
The same can be said of Frank.
He's a sicko who has urges, so he does the evil things he does to keep his dark passenger appeased.

Shaky background? How?
We know Frank is a serial killer who kidnaps, rapes and kills women.
What more do you want?
This is horror-comedy not mystery or drama where character development is integral.
If you expect a half hour exposition dedicated to Frank's childhood and upbringing, you watched the wrong genre.

People didn't flee the neighborhood, it was a gradual exodus until there was no one left, hence, the neighborhood became a sort of ghost town.
There are number of things that might have caused this exodus, but since they ain't important to the plot, they weren't discussed.
Like I said, it's horror, not mystery or drama.

As for the lodging firm renting the same house to two people, it's just a clerical error.
It happens sometimes.

Barbarian..... 7.5/10

Good horror movie but not decent enough backstory was given to the villain. Solid work nonetheless.

The film has three villains, AJ, Frank and the deformed woman.
They all have backstories....sort of.

AJ is an actor who was fired from his sitcom project for raping a colleague,
Frank and the deformed woman have a common backstory.
The deformed woman was a product of incest as was explained in a quick exposition.

It was so cleverly done that if you weren't paying attention, you'd miss it.
A man was shown coming out of a house in a suburb, shopping for baby things, then he was shown stalking a woman, then finally entering a room in his house with screams coming from that room.
What I was able to grab from this little exposition and other tidbits scattered across the film is this guy Frank kidnaps these women, then systemically rapes and impregnates them, then rapes and impregnates the products of the rape, and all the while, keeping them imprisoned (in cages), and documenting everything with a video camera

It's all kinds of fuccked up.

The Sadness (2021)

Gorefest, not for the faint of heart.
Started as a harmless romantic film, then went from zero to hundred in minutes.
I don't mind gore but the gore in this movie is too much.

The Woman King (2022).....7.5

The people portrayed as heroes in the movie were in reality fighting on behalf of keeping slavery.
If you can look past the revisionist history, it's actually a solid movie with plenty of great fight scenes.

But animated content can be mature.

I know but if you take a popular animation and flip it into a live action film, it'd probably draw more adult audience than it normally would in its original animated state.

I think what he meant is parents would want a content that's more matured to wind down after watching a kid friendly animated film with their offsprings.
I think it's a fairly reasonable assumption.

Yeah, the Brennaisance is here.
Continued starring role in Doom Patrol, cancelled Batgirl and The Whale has boosted his stock.

What I wanna see and start hearing is the big payday he should be getting. That's how you truly sought after.
I mean Michael Keaton just earned $4mn just for a cameo in the cancelled Batgirl movie.

He's more in-demand than Cage so it's likely he earns more per movie.
