Any response to these questions, please!

studyexec:

Hey guys,
Looking to move to Calgary with my family this August. Have a few questions

(1) Do I need to obtain the International Drivers Permit from Nigeria before travelling? Someone advised me it should help. Or is the FRSC letter adequate for processing the Canadian license - Alberta.

(2) I read about a rule / law that a child(ren) of opposite sex older than 5 years should not share rooms...or something like that. My kids are 5.5 and 2.5 years old. What is the rule / law and implications for us? Can the kids share rooms? Do we need to rent a 3 bedroom to cater for these rule / law?

(3) Whats with the ranking of elementary and secondary school rankings. Do we have to look for those ranked like 7 and above? Or it does not really matter much in terms of e.g. quality of teaching, background of children as per neighborhood, etc?

Thanks in advance!

@femzo, some did theirs in March last yr n we did ours in May last yr.As I write now now,we just finished the basic training stage n still expect advance one, then biz plan. Were u asked to write iz plan?
I applied for a Performance Grant, so I was asked to submit a business plan immediately, without going through training or advisory sessions. I think folks that selected Matching Grant are going through advisory sessions before being asked to submit business plans.

Hello House,

Writing IELTS May 18, I think I should start evaluating my credentials now.

Please can someone paste the link to IQAS's website. I am thinking of evaluating with them, because they seem to work faster than WES.

Please what are your opinions?

Seriously, can't you just type 'IQAS' on google or any other search engine? angry

Folks here have had varying experiences using either of them.

Bros ur rice too cost jor... will get it cheaper at kura, kwanar dangora even yankaba.. clean local rice without stones.. a mudu for 750 Naira. ..

Don't forget we can get foreign rice for 18k in same kano oo..

Bring good price and let's buy in bulk

About 38 mudus make a 50kg bag of rice. Buying 1 mudu at N750 as you stated is equivalent to N28,500 for 50kg bag!!
Agriculture / Re: Rice Farm For Sale Urgently by Ibrahym(m): 12:00pm On Jan 07, 2017
alajimeche:
@Op first let's do a little maths. A ton is equivalent to 1000kg, meaning you can get 20 bags of 50kg of rice. At your N180 per ton it translates to N9k per bag of 50kg. How much will cost for the harvesting, transporting and processing into finished and polished rice ready for the final market sale? These will help to determine if it is a good bargain.

1,000kg of harvested paddy rice will get you average of 600 - 650kg of milled rice. That's 12 to 13 bags of 50kg rice. You then need to add cost of processing: parboiling, drying, milling and bagging, as well as cost of harvesting and transporting to the mill.
It could very well be worse if not properly harvested or processed.

At the MSME Summit in Abuja now.
The Vice Peesident talked off script.
He mentioned YouWIN as one of the existing programmes for SME....as well as CBN 220bn fund.

Other things he has said.
He has attended or aware of up to 12 programmes on SME funding in last 3-4yrs, but it's mostly all talk and no results.
Funds are available (many financial windows) and there are MSMEs requiring funds.
But there is lack of connection btw the two. There needs to be better connection btw funds and businesses.
At times funds have been provided but, it is difficult to know who it has been provided to.
Noted there needs to be better monitoring and evaluation generally on businesses funds have been provided to.
The Govt will do all it can to support MSMEs and keep focus.is need to curb corruption, bribing in all these.
They will endeavor to curb corruption related to funding MSMEs.

Final results for Kwara presidential
Buhari 211,513 (69%) Jonathan 90,826 (30%)
All the three senatorial districts won by APC

If that's the result, total votes is about 302,339.
- Compared to total PVC collected (889,067), that's about 34%.
- Compared to total registered voters in the state (1,142,267), that's about 26%.

Really low turnout!

Politics / Re: Massive Rigging (video) by Ibrahym(m): 8:52am On Mar 29, 2015
From my observation,
1. The ballot papers are not genuine for 2015 elections. The papers used for elections yesterday had colored borders for d different positions being contested. Those in the video above do not!

In fact, freeze at 25 seconds, the paper has CPC on it. Meaning it was for 2011 elections!
Mr OP, pls clarify where you got this and not cause confusion of false alarm in 2015.

2. However, in Nigeria the papers they can still be dumped into the ballot boxes, counted and placed in INEC archives, which I think are hardly checked. I recall the issues in parties getting access to inspect ballot papers in previous elections.
3. The video may not be adequate in a tribunal becos it does not tell us the location, polling unit the ballots will be used for.
4. What investigators can do is to identify the culprits, place them on wanted list and prosecute. From there you can get confessions on who ordered this despicable act whether in 2011 or 2015.

However, the export market is an elite market. If you cannot speak Hausa or you have no Hausa-speaking partner to break into this market for you, sorry!

So what is the point I am making here?

Don't just blunder into a business without getting access to market research. Companies spend a lot of money on market research because that is what separates the profitable ones from the losers.

Cassava is profitable. You just have to know where the profits really are.

Just read this. On point!
Agriculture / Re: The Cassava Story. Profitability And Loss Theory by Ibrahym(m): 9:07am On Feb 23, 2015
Good thread. I have learnt a lot from the contributions so far.

Jethro, from your OP, you ventured into the business on the premise that cassava cost per tonne was about N18,000.
But the rates in your area is like N5,000 to say N10,000 per tonne depending on the variety, quality, etc

Would you say:
(a) The initial forecast of N18,000 was just wrong

(b) It was reasonable, but you did not factor that over-supply of Cassava in recent times forced a reduction in price

(c) It was reasonable, but you did not factor that practices of buyers delaying purchase now frustrates sellers to reduce prices
(vice versa, this is common in the rice value chain as paddy rice sellers try to hoard and delay sales to when there is scarcity in the market).

(d) It was reasonable, but you did not factor that selling price depends (i) the seller's cassava quality and bargaining power plus (ii) the type of buyer and what they use cassava for, e.g. garri, starch, etc.

Generally, I think for anyone going into business, you have to carry out thorough research based on your location, ensuring you have potential off-takers (buyers) and a fall back plan.

Ultimately, as others have also said, one will also have to invest in the Cassava value chain, i.e. start processing into starch, gari, ethanol, etc
Only then can you be the master of your own game and business.

I understand it is capital intensive, but one must find a way: either by starting small, getting loans, using cooperative, etc.

2.START OFF LOAN IS 250K WITH 2 GUARANTORS (1 CIVIL SERVANT AND ANY OTHER PERSON)LOAN PAYABLE IN 18 MONTHS WITH 12% INTEREST FOR AGRIC AND 20% FOR BIZ.
3.ACCT OPENING IS 3K WITH 4 PASSPORT PHOTO.
4.ANY LOAN ABOVE 250K IE MAYBE 1 - 100M NEEDS A COLLATERAL WITH C of O.
5.LOAN IS GIVEN TO ON GOING BUSINESS.

Thanks.
When I went to a BOA sometime last year, I got similar info.
In fact, I was told that for 250K and above loan, the collateral has to be a building with C of O (either the farmhouse or other building for the business). In other words, land itself cannot stand as collateral. I forgot to ask if stocks in the capital market can be used, but I doubt it.

The only other problem I have with BOA is that I cannot access loan as a startup.

Survey conducted btw Jan. 15 -Jan. 20 .

A lot has happened, 3 weeks after, if there was no election shift, PVC collection will still be ongoing till tomorrow, trainings will be concluded, after the survey over 140,000 card readers had been delivered, the only outstanding card readers awaiting delivery as at ladt week were redundant card readers in the event a card reader fails in a polling unit.

TANoids should not justify rubbish

Exactly. The survey was conducted in mid January and lots of things had changed.
But overall, I think it was ok to postpone due to d lots of residual issues.
