Agriculture / Re: Rice Farm For Sale Urgently by Ibrahym(m): 12:00pm On Jan 07, 2017 |
alajimeche: 1,000kg of harvested paddy rice will get you average of 600 - 650kg of milled rice. That's 12 to 13 bags of 50kg rice. You then need to add cost of processing: parboiling, drying, milling and bagging, as well as cost of harvesting and transporting to the mill. It could very well be worse if not properly harvested or processed. |

At the MSME Summit in Abuja now. The Vice Peesident talked off script. He mentioned YouWIN as one of the existing programmes for SME....as well as CBN 220bn fund. Other things he has said. He has attended or aware of up to 12 programmes on SME funding in last 3-4yrs, but it's mostly all talk and no results. Funds are available (many financial windows) and there are MSMEs requiring funds. But there is lack of connection btw the two. There needs to be better connection btw funds and businesses. At times funds have been provided but, it is difficult to know who it has been provided to. Noted there needs to be better monitoring and evaluation generally on businesses funds have been provided to. The Govt will do all it can to support MSMEs and keep focus.is need to curb corruption, bribing in all these. They will endeavor to curb corruption related to funding MSMEs. |

This is biased journalism. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs did not mention any names. It's Premium Times that has assumed the PDP members comments and this is wrong and sending the wrong message! Even worse most commentators on Nairaland here have failed to see or mention this!, but ready to make judgements. SMH |

Adewumi2888: If that's the result, total votes is about 302,339. - Compared to total PVC collected (889,067), that's about 34%. - Compared to total registered voters in the state (1,142,267), that's about 26%. Really low turnout! 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Massive Rigging (video) by Ibrahym(m): 8:52am On Mar 29, 2015 |
From my observation, 1. The ballot papers are not genuine for 2015 elections. The papers used for elections yesterday had colored borders for d different positions being contested. Those in the video above do not! In fact, freeze at 25 seconds, the paper has CPC on it. Meaning it was for 2011 elections! Mr OP, pls clarify where you got this and not cause confusion of false alarm in 2015. 2. However, in Nigeria the papers they can still be dumped into the ballot boxes, counted and placed in INEC archives, which I think are hardly checked. I recall the issues in parties getting access to inspect ballot papers in previous elections. 3. The video may not be adequate in a tribunal becos it does not tell us the location, polling unit the ballots will be used for. 4. What investigators can do is to identify the culprits, place them on wanted list and prosecute. From there you can get confessions on who ordered this despicable act whether in 2011 or 2015. |

Good thread. I have learnt a lot from the contributions so far. Jethro, from your OP, you ventured into the business on the premise that cassava cost per tonne was about N18,000. But the rates in your area is like N5,000 to say N10,000 per tonne depending on the variety, quality, etc Would you say: (a) The initial forecast of N18,000 was just wrong (b) It was reasonable, but you did not factor that over-supply of Cassava in recent times forced a reduction in price (c) It was reasonable, but you did not factor that practices of buyers delaying purchase now frustrates sellers to reduce prices (vice versa, this is common in the rice value chain as paddy rice sellers try to hoard and delay sales to when there is scarcity in the market). (d) It was reasonable, but you did not factor that selling price depends (i) the seller's cassava quality and bargaining power plus (ii) the type of buyer and what they use cassava for, e.g. garri, starch, etc. Generally, I think for anyone going into business, you have to carry out thorough research based on your location, ensuring you have potential off-takers (buyers) and a fall back plan. Ultimately, as others have also said, one will also have to invest in the Cassava value chain, i.e. start processing into starch, gari, ethanol, etc Only then can you be the master of your own game and business. I understand it is capital intensive, but one must find a way: either by starting small, getting loans, using cooperative, etc. 1 Like |
Agriculture / Re: Farming Season 2015 by Ibrahym(m): 7:15am On Feb 23, 2015 |
justayo: Thanks. When I went to a BOA sometime last year, I got similar info. In fact, I was told that for 250K and above loan, the collateral has to be a building with C of O (either the farmhouse or other building for the business). In other words, land itself cannot stand as collateral. I forgot to ask if stocks in the capital market can be used, but I doubt it. The only other problem I have with BOA is that I cannot access loan as a startup. |
