^ Industrial/process automation is a better way in
Rigger training, crane operator and the likes can get you a roustabout job (entry level) and when you are in, you decide on how you want to move within the industry.
Diesel engine/heavy machinery maintenance/repairs training can get you a rig mechanic job.

Mud logging is another "easy" way in because numerous indigenous companies are involved in this area. You can then find your way into other servicing companies.
Cementing companies are constantly recruiting too for operator positions. These roles has very little to do with age.

Na multi-nationals carry the age thing for head (at entry-level stage).

Securing a trainee drilling engineer position is a bit difficult now because of my age; most trainee positions require younger applicants. After extensive research, I realized it’s a bit easier to break into the industry with some trainings/certifications.

I need necessary advice and guidance as to how to go about it, the necessary training/certification to enroll in and where these trainings are administered here in Nigeria.

I’ve researched two training institutions;

PTI MUD School

IDPE ASSISTANT DRILLER TRAINING PROGRAMME

I’ll need close to #600,000 to enroll for either of these courses so I want to be sure it’s a step in the right direction before I will cough out such amount from my business.

Is it really worth it? Will any of these certificates really boost my chances of getting a job in any drilling coy in the shortest possible time?



Can you experts help me with any tips or advice which will help me get my career on track again?

From the little I know, drilling/OnG isn't the only sector where a mech. engineering graduate can work. It isn't a crime working in OnG also.

As for the Mud school, I have read on this same NL about people who did the training and are still unemployed. For the AD training, experience counts the most - starting from a roustabout position and climbing all the way up. Yet to see an employer that will employ straightup an entry level Assistant driller, the position requires experience.

Keep being on the look out for entry level positions even outside of the OnG industry, some experiences in other sectors are applicable e.g welding and mechanic positions. These trainings to me make more sense (personal opinion).

You don't need any of these drilling courses being bandied around. You've got a degree in mechanical engineering, I think that's enough to get you a job. You should apply to get that first job then you can go for any of the IADC accredited courses.

Concentrate more on passing entry level exams and get a first job then build experience.

A friend of mine had/has 'only' two years experience and just landed an international job. Today is Monday, he resigned last week thursday from his present job.

It clearly explains how to tackle a decision making as great as this.

I am currently at a location where access to NL has been blocked but I access the site using an online anonymous proxy. I have tried it with several proxy sites but keep getting same results.

Problem is I keep getting logged out at regular intervals and that makes me log in between 5 - 10 times for a 30minute session which isn't an interesting thing to do (This has been happening for the last 4weeks). Is there something I can do to solve the logging out issue and if the answer is No, can anything be done about it?

In an much as i beleive that a graduate should not earn less than 100K per month, I think the focus of a fresh graduate should be

1. What value can i add to myself
2. What value can i add to my organization
3. What is my 5 year career road map

A guy earning 30K per month today , with a clear vision of where he/she is going can earn 700k per month in 5 years time, while someone that started with 250k per month can still be on 350K per month in 5 years

Employers pay for value not for your degree, after the 1st 3-5 years of work

A friend of mine works with an OnG servicing company with salary of about 100k approximately 2years after (just this month), he has gotten an international job. The new salary no be here ooo... A lil over 5 X his current pay.

You just have to put in time men unless na Shell employ you fresh from school to fit pay you 250k!

You will find most of the info you might need as regarding several oil field topics.

Gamma, Resistivity, Neutron and Density services is called Triple-Combo Services (more like an intro to wireline logging), you also have quad-combo service (more advanced logging like Sonic service added to those first mentioned).
Formation pressure, borehole size, formation tester/formation fluid sampling are other services that can be rendered. These are the general names/services offered by LWD/Wireline logging, Service Companies have specific names for their tools (don't want to bother you with that) but check on their site to get familiar with what you might hear at the interview.

M/LWD does borehole measurement during drilling while going down the hole, Wireline gets down into the hole to the point of interest and starts measurement as you pull out of the hole (this is done to maintain tension on the line).
Also read up Well workover and well Intervention.

Other services can be performed by running "a long line/spool of wire" (one that resembles a PHCN high tension cable but with about one inch thickness) down the hole but with focus on logging, you should read up Gamma, Resistivity, Neutron and Density logging.

Fourth trial at posting this morning.... Wireline and MWD do not go together (in a sense), M/LWD is logging done during ACTUAL drilling and Wireline with respect to logging is done AFTER the hole is drilled.

I felt/thought the same way initially, then I reasoned it was all good as far as there was a proposal whether there was a bouquet catching or not.

Start off as an instrumentation engineer in maybe the FMCG Industry or any industry, put in 2years or more then search for ONSHORE rig positions first (not saying It's impossible getting offshore directly) and increase ur experience level.

The Offshore jobs will come calling.
