Auburn University - An acceptance. Highest ranked out of all my choices.

No funding and no assistantship for now. My Transcript was sent in late March. Naija university palava.

I was admitted to Texas A&M University-Kingsville to study Chemical Engineering(MSc), was given $8k+ scholarship. I made the necessary payments already and I have my I-20 with me. Filled the DS-160 as well as paid the visa application fee. School resumption is Aug 10 and I have plans to schedule and interview next month is that too early? I'm a bachelor's degree holder in Biomedical Technology with a GPA of 2.96/5.i intend applying to Michigan Technological university for spring semester 2018, to study Biomedical engineering.

I took GRE in 2015 and scored 279 which is very low. I intend to re-take GRE by June to boost my chances of admission and funding.i want to know if it's possible,please anyone who have an idea should kindly contribute. Thanks

A high GRE score will help makeup for the 'low' GPA.

Admission will also look more likely and you will also stand a chance at getting funded.

I had to resit for the GRE too and I am glad I did.

We wrote the GRE on the same day, good to know your money has yielded returns in $$$!

On Auburn, I paid for transcript + Dhl to two different schools.

One was sent end of January, school received it 5 days later and I was offered admission about two week later.

Second transcript wasn't sent till mid February using (I think 300naira) Nipost. Meanwhile I had been busy worrying the school but they were very sure my transcript wasn't in yet.

Resent another transcript with Dhl, arrived in about 4days. Still waiting for admission decision.

Learning point - Follow up on every item on your checklist, ensure the mission is accomplished as per plan so people don't mess you up.

Update -

Still 3 admits so far.

on Lsu, I just heard yesterday that my last recommendation letter wasn't turned in by the Prof. and so my application has not being reviewed, I assumed all was well since the other 2 recommendations got in by 1st week of January.

I felt my online app just didn't update that final rec, unfortunately Lsu didn't inform me rec letter was missing.

Learning point - Never make any assumptions, it usually ends in disaster.

Yours is for professional masters I guess or they interpreted it as such. They are usually not lenient with the flouting of their 'academic recommenders' criteria for research programs I am 99% sure of that. If anything, I'd be slightly worried if they gave me such a pass because it may indicate that they will disappoint you with respect to funding.

I believe HappyDay hinted at it when he said schools do not fund non-thesis based programs. And if you were in doubt as to whether they considered you as Thesis or non-thesis then the 'non-academic referee' may be an indicator.

My program is Thesis based and I am fully aware I got away with it. I had no choice, chasing those lecturers would have been hell.

All three schools I have seen so far gave me funding.

How would one get off a waitlist? Safe schools are not safe anymore. I got a mail from BGSU that I have been wait-listed for funding. My rank on the waitlist is 25 out of 32 strong applicants and there are just 8 GA positions for Masters students.

In fact, I was given a long advice including deferring my admission to Fall 2018 or accepting a position in another school. Please, is this not a gentle way of being rejected? . I had two academic recommenders and one non-academic and they were not okay with the nonacademic. I was advised to use three Mathematics faculty as recommenders.

I did 2 non-academic out of 3 recommendations and got away with it.

BGSU has gone gangster on you. That kinda wait list isn't a beautiful one coupled with the subtle hints asking you to have more faith in your other options.
