GAZZUZZ: Do not think you can be smarter than the average roadside mechanic. It will end in tears (premium) . Follow up on this job , all the parts required for this rebuild are available in the market , you can even buy what is popularly called (couple back ) which is the crankshaft and bearings removed from a functional standard engine. Replace piston rings head gasket valve seals and possibly piston them selves if worn out. Take your rebuild seriously if you want it to last.
Seconded This was what I did, OP follow this. I've put my thermostat sef and am having a great fuel economy. I bought my crankshaft (couple back) 120k in jos then. what's the price in Lagos?
SeaTrade: I've taken it to the mechanic,he is saying crankshaft,rings,piston,gaskets,etc...is what they will change. Budget 350k I will do it but he will use his own money to do it first so that if e no work na him loss Nna money weh I don plan wetin I go use am do finish
it's rebuilt able, no fear. Look for a garage that repairs all this Toyota haice buses a.k.a Hummer. They are very good in fixing 2TR-FE, that engine should be brought down in pieces. Bad parts should be identified and replaced

SeaTrade: So guys, good evening. I got a truck like 3months ago for my business . It was a used truck. Have been using it for long hauls since, but I noticed something.Oil problems. That thing drinks oil like crazy, but it doesnt smoke. After coming back from calabar today to PH,the thing kaput after climbing a hill. It still starts but the sound is awful, clanking noises from the engine. So I am thinking, what could be the problem? Is the engine dead? Do i rebuild it?how solid is it gonna be after rebuilding it? Is it a good thing to do with a hilux? Mehn ,i cant wait to start buying brand new cars, nonsense!! Cc gazzuzz,eddee,9icetoo,nurey,timifakay,radautoworks and all other gurus in the house, please help
what model year, engine type? if it's 4cyl 2tr-fe(tokumbo is expensive ooo). I ringed mine, 2 years ago and it's still serving me well. almost 300k
radautoworks: Thank you Kettlecorn and adanny01. My issue is with being incorrectly told repeatedly about the engine needing to be replaced by someone who has not seen the vehicle in person. I did acknowledge from my first post that there was no reason for op to have left without being able to have a discussion with our lead tech especially when there were still unresolved issues. The ball was definitely dropped and I appreciate the constructive criticism. If he didn't tell me, I wouldn't have known to improve further on processes.
While you are right and I don't owe anyone except op an explanation, I do believe in transparency and no one is perfect.
Thanks to op for taking advantage of his warranty and bringing the car back in today. I don't know what he is going to say but this is the status when it was brought back. I will update with status once the car is leaving again. I will also update with findings about the repairs that were done, the second diagnosis/remedies done by our lead tech and any errors or omissions if there were any.
