PoliticsFashola Is A Gift To Nigeria - IBB by idirect(op): 5:32pm On Aug 10, 2013
Former military dictator, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida has described Governor Fashola as a gift to Nigeria. HE made the remarks during a courtesy call on the Goveernor to sympathize with him on the passing of his father, Ademola Fashola.

Speaking during the visit at Lagos House, Marina, IBB said, “In Islam, we do pray for long life but long life does not mean living for 100 years or 500 years. We are gratified that Papa left and he left one important gift, that is Governor Raji Fashola. So we are grateful that God has spared his life to see a Governor that everybody respects in this country and I also pray that one of your children will also take the footsteps you have taken after Papa”.

Also present at the meeting was Abdulsalami Abubakar, who declared, “I keep saying that without peace, there wouldn’t be any country, without peace, there wouldn’t be people and without peace there wouldn’t be means of livelihood”.

Speaking in response to the retired Generals, Fashola prayed for peace in the country and said he hoped the promise of Nigeria will come alive during their lifetimes.

He said, “I hope that the leadership that you both provide for this country will continue to endure and that through that leadership, much more enduring peace would spread around this country and that the promise of this country will come to pass in your lifetime.”

Nairaland GeneralNigerian Bus Driver On Cell Phone Crashes Bus, Kills Infant Girl. by idirect(op): 10:46pm On Jul 31, 2013
By SaharaReporters, New York
In a freak accident, a Nigerian bus driver
said to be using his cell phone, lost control
of the vehicle which hit and knocked over a
lamp post that fell on and killed an 8 month
old baby girl.
The driver, Idowu Daramola, 48, was
driving in West New York, New Jersey, on
Tuesday afternoon when the tragic incident
occured. He was charged with reckless
driving, using a cellphone while driving and
death by auto.
Authorities in West New York said the
bus crashed into a lamppost, which fell onto
a baby stroller. The bus then hit a tree,
another lamppost and a parked car, which
struck three other parked vehicles.
Officer Michael Stetson says he found the
infant, Angela Paredes, bleeding from the
head and not breathing. She died on the
way to a hospital. Seven other people were
hurt in the incident.
The bus was reportedly operated by Sphinx
Transportation, which provides shuttle
service between New Jersey and New York
City. The company has not commented on
the accident.
"I heard a loud crash and people
screaming," said Iris Pizarro, who lives in an
apartment building across the street. "That's
when I ran to the window and saw the
mother over the baby screaming, "My
daughter! My baby!"
Daramola, who resides in Thornwood,
NY, could face 10 years in prison if
convicted of all the charges. He is scheduled
to appear in court on Thursday and is being
held on $250,000 bail.
It is not uncommon to see shuttle drivers,
mostly immigrants, talking on cellphones as
they drive although it has been a violation
of state law since 2007. It was not known at
press time whether Daramola was texting
or talking on his cell when the tragedy
occured.

PoliticsObasanjo Once Beat-up Okupe For Dishonesty - Junaid Mohamed by idirect(op): 6:50pm On Mar 16, 2013
By SaharaReporters, New York

Russia-trained medical doctor and radical Northern Nigeria politician, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, this morning on a radio show in Abuja said that for his acts of insincerity and dishonesty in Aso Rock, former President Olusegun Obasanjo once beat up Dr. Doyin Okupe, who is now President Goodluck Jonathan’s defender-in-chief.
He also hit at Jonathan’s political adviser, Ahmed Gulak, whom he dismissed as a desperate and illogical politician sailing on the capsized boat of a failed presidency.
“I was there when President Olusegun Obasanjo physically beat and assaulted him because of his attitude and lack of honesty,” he said of Okupe. “I was also there when Chief of Staff to Obasanjo, Maj.Gen. Mohammed called him and scolded him because of his behaviour. And the same character is today entering what he doesn’t know, is a PR practitioner? Is he a journalist?”
Mohammed further described Okupe as “shameless,” adding that he has ignorantly been defending President Jonathan without being privy to the reality of Jonathan’s atrocities, as a result of which Okupe will continue to face morality and credibility challenges.
“I know how he kept troubling Obasanjo and he was given the job, later on he showed his [true] colours and was kicked-out…He is busy doing harm again to his remaining person. Even Gulak with his proud moustache is doing same, shamelessly because of Jonathan.”
When the moderator asked Junaid, what did Okupe did to defend himself when Obasanjo was beating him up, Mohammed responded, “What would he do? Do you know who were there? There were deluges of security operatives, no matter [his being] younger than Obasanjo, he could not help himself but just received the beatings.”
He challenged Okupe to deny his account. “I was there and saw it, let him come out and deny it, let’s see.”

Official Gazette Reveals Generals Diya And Adisa Already Pardoned In 1999

By SaharaReporters, New York

SaharaReporters has proof that this week’s state pardon of convicted former Bayelsa State governor, Dipreye Alamieyeseigha was merely garnished with other names to cover up the true intent.

An official document known as the "Supplement To The Official Gazette Extraordinary No 33, Vol. 86" published on May 26, 1999 and signed by then military head of state, General Abdusalami Alhaji Abubakar, shows that Lt. General D.O Diya; Maj-Gen. A.T Olanrewaju, Maj-Gen. A.K Adisa and several others were granted clemency at that time, 14 years ago.
This document confirms that the pardon granted by President Goodluck Jonathan this week to some military generals accused of coup plotting was mere padding to make the pardon of Alamieyeseigha, his former boss who was convicted for grand theft in Bayelsa state, appear palatable to increasingly incredulous Nigerian citizens and international observers.

The gazette, made on March 4, 1999, also listed several other beneficiaries of government clemency, including civilians.

The gazette exposes President Jonathan’s hollow desperation to confuse Nigerians with the specious argument that the clemency had merely been extended to a number of Nigerians who deserved it, rather than a particular kleptocrat governor who stole millions of dollars from Bayelsa State.

Meanwhile, the decision has continues to attract wide condemnation from within and outside Nigeria. An anti-corruption seminar sponsored by the Niger State government and the Ministry of Planning in Minna today quickly dovetailed into a major discussion about the pardon granted Mr. Alamieyeseigha. Speakers Segun Adeniyi, Dino Melaye, and Kaduna based activist Shehu Sanni condemned the pardon by President Jonathan as they discussed a paper presented by a former Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi.

With reference to the gazette, popular Nigeria civil rights attorney, Femi Falana, told SaharaReporters today that there is no provision for double pardon in Nigerian law, underlining that Monday's pardon of DSP Alamieyeseigha was a package of fraud that has been exposed by the federal gazette.

Doyin Okupe, a presidential adviser on public affairs, spent all of yesterday speaking to a variety of media organizations at home and abroad in the effort to nail down the impression that the pardon of Alamieyeseigha is both fair and honourable.

Mr. Jonathan has said that he has no apologies for the nationally-reviled pardon. By the pardon, Alamieyeseigha will now be free to accept government appointments, contracts and honours, as well as help the push for Jonathan to win the 2015 presidential election.
