JONATHAN’S BAGGAGE OF CORRUPTION AND INCOMPETENCE ¶5. (S) Clearly, reports of the President in a coma and on a respirator do not bode well for any recovery. In addition, Jonathan’s dispatching emissaries around town to take a temperature check on the atmosphere surrounding what may be his, sooner rather than later, ascendancy to the Presidency further leads to the news that the President of Nigeria is in his final days. We are preparing a report (septel) on the baggage that Jonathan will carry with him into State House as there have been past reports of corruption, political thuggery, and payments to “militant factions” from his days as Governor of Bayelsa State as well as questions about his competency in general. Source: https://cablegatesearch.wikileaks.org/cable.php?id=09ABUJA2173&q=goodluck JONATHAN IS NOT A RISK TAKER ¶1. (C) Assistant Secretary Carson met with Lagos business community leaders on February 7. Per these sources, Governor Fashola of Lagos State is on the verge of being impeached despite bringing new roads, hospitals, and schools to Lagos. The Governor does not pay attention to the patronage networks. Vice President Jonathan is neither a risk taker nor an activist but it is better to have him than no one in the seat of power. Isolate and monitor communities in the Niger Delta to force them to become well run. END SUMMARY. Source: https://cablegatesearch.wikileaks.org/cable.php?id=10LAGOS81&q=goodluck BUHARI ON RULE OF LAW ¶4. (C) On the possibility that Yar’Adua might be unable to complete his term due to ill health, Buhari revealed that he had been telling other northern leaders that “no extra-constitutional measures should be taken and that the rule of law should be followed” (i.e., that VP Goodluck Jonathan should take over as President). He said any other course would violate the constitution, which “would go against everything” he is standing for with his current appeal before the Supreme Court. Buhari then concluded that making progress on the issues of poverty, health, and development should trump the informal North-South rotation of the presidency. “Ultimately, it is a question of who can better solve Nigeria’s most pressing problems,” he said. Source: https://cablegatesearch.wikileaks.org/cable.php?id=08ABUJA2339&q=goodluck GOODLUCK JONATHAN CHARACTERISED AS WEAK 22 Jan 2006 ¶11. (C) In the last 24 hours, we have seen a substantial increase in communication about the hostages through official channels and increasingly optimistic assessments of their condition. This appears to be good news. However, the information is coming from a single source: the Governor of Bayelsa State directly or through his SSG. Yesterday, we characterized the governor as weak and out of the loop, but today he tells us he is the only one with whom the kidnappers will negotiate. And at least one element of the presidential committee also appears to have ruled out FNDIC involvement without providing any justification for doing so. The governor’s assessment that divisions within the kidnappers will lead to the hostages imminent release sounds positive, but so have many other statements over the past ten days. Most of these positive developments depend on one source of information, and we have yet to independently confirm them. HOWE Source: https://cablegatesearch.wikileaks.org/cable.php?id=06LAGOS82&q=goodluck STILL ON THE DOUBT OF GOODLUCK JONATHAN’S INTEGRITY AND COMPETENCE As Nigerians come to grips with the probability of Yar’Adua’s demise, there appears to be growing public support — even in the North — for Vice President Jonathan to assume the presidential mantle. Despite widespread doubts about Jonathan’s integrity and competence, there is encouraging deference, at least in public, to the principle that the constitutionally-prescribed line of succession should be respected. Source: https://cablegatesearch.wikileaks.org/cable.php?id=09ABUJA2173&q=goodluck JONATHAN CLEARLY OUT OF DEPTH ¶17. (C) A Shell member of the crisis response team also doubts the Bayelsa team’s veracity. Bayelsa Governor Goodluck Jonathan told a reliable contact of his that he had been personally threatened by the militia group holding the hostages. The contact assessed Jonathan as clearly out of his depth. Source: https://cablegatesearch.wikileaks.org/cable.php?id=06LAGOS98&q=goodluck |
President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaigners started it by latching on WikiLeaks revelations about US Embassy dispatches on Nigeria’s opposition politicians, such as Maj. General Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Now, the All Progressives Congress researchers have also furrowed into WikiLeaks data base to bring out dispatches on President Goodluck Jonathan. And these documents paint Jonathan as grossly incompetence, corrupt and sectional. The APC researchers even submitted the documents with an open letter to Dr.Reuben Abati, who they alleged brought out the WikiLeaks on Buhari and Tinubu. AN OPEN LETTER TO DR ABATI ON PRESIDENT JONATHAN’S LONG HISTORY OF INCOMPETENCE AS DOCUMENTED BY PUBLIC LIBRARY OF US DIPLOMACY LEAKED BY WIKILEAKS Dear Dr. Abati, It was really sad seeing a publication from your office yestersday, where you referenced Wikileaks as your source of information, since you decided to go that way, it may also be interesting to add some of the the things you forgot to tell us. President Jonathan’s incompetence had been noted right from when he assumed office as the Governor of Bayelsa State following the impeachment of his erstwhile boss, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha who was later convicted of stealing state funds running into billions of Naira. A man who President Jonathan granted a Presidential pardon in 2013. Again, kindly permit me to use the same heading for the story you ran on Gen. Buhari yesterday. PUBLIC LIBRARY OF US DIPLOMACY Chief of Army Staff Dambazau(2010) on President Jonathan as a sectional leader ¶3. (S) In response to the question as to whom the COAS believes is the Commander-in-Chief of Nigerian Armed Forces at this time, Dambazau, a northerner said, Goodluck Jonathan. In the view of the COAS, Jonathan holds that authority until such time as either the National Assembly implements a constitutional action returning authority to Yar’Adua, or there is some other manifestation that shows the President is capable and has resumed his duties. Dambazau said it was unfortunate that the entire Yar’Adua health situation had not been handled well. There were a few people around the ailing President who were manipulating the situation for both power and money, he noted. The COAS highlighted that the “Katsina group” around Yar’Adua has “caged” the President off and even before his departure to Saudi Arabia more and more Yar’Adua was not being seen as a national figure. It is unfortunate that Jonathan is beginning to do the same thing. The people that Jonathan has around him now are behaving just as badly as the Katsina clique, with Jonathan handing out favors to his ethnic group, which the Army Chief sid was not/not Ijaw. Dambazau said the Acting/Vice President comes from the smallest ethnic minority in Bayelsa State, and that he is beginning to behave like a “sectional,” leader and less like a national figure with national responsibilities. The COAS said he has had several meetings with Jonathan and that he is a “simple man who is easily influenced.” He gave the example of the recent transfer of naira 19 billion of GON funds to a Niger Delta environmental project that was done at the end of a meeting that Jonathan had with a group from his region. Dambazau said this was done outside of the normal Cabinet decision-making process based on a meeting he had had with his “kinsmen.” Source: https://cablegatesearch.wikileaks.org/cable.php?id=10ABUJA207&q=goodluck JONATHAN TOLD THE US AMBASSADOR HE DOES NOT ANTICIPATE STANDING FOR 2011 ELECTIONS ¶13. (C) Jonathan said he does not anticipate standing for elections in 2011 and that he is not working towards being a presidential candidacy. He wants to put into place an electoral structure that will be ready for national elections. He did, however, note that, “if they want me to run, that will be something to consider at that time.” However, he stressed that his focus now and for the next 12 months will be on “doing a good job and witnessing respectable and credible elections in 2011.” “I was not chosen to be Vice President because I had good political experience,” he said. “I did not. There were a lot more qualified people around to be Vice President, but that does not mean I am not my own man.” He said he is “not a politician” and had very limited experience as an administrator, but concluded, “I will not tolerate a brawl.” COMMENT “It is always hard to judge how some will behave (or surprise you) when leadership is unexpectedly thrown in their lap. The verdict is out on Jonathan and his previously underwhelming personality and performance needs to keep us in the cautious lane” SANDERS Source: https://cablegatesearch.wikileaks.org/cable.php?id=10ABUJA215&q=goodluck |
BY OLADOSU OLALEYE President Jonathan said if Billions are stolen from our oil sector, America will know. Now America knows: The immediate past United States Secretary of State, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, in separate events in New York City said the Nigerian government under President Goodluck Jonathan, squandered its oil resources, and indirectly helps corruption to fester in the Boko Haram troubled country. In the words of Hillary Clinton: “The government of Nigeria has been, in my view, somewhat derelict in its responsibility toward protecting boys and girls, men and women in northern Nigeria over the last years. “The Nigerian government must accept help – particularly intelligence, surveillance and recognizance help – their troops have to be the ones that (are) necessary, but they could do a better job if they accept the offers that are being made. Nigeria has made bad choices, not hard choices,” Clinton said. “They have squandered their oil wealth; they have allowed corruption to fester, and now they are losing control of parts of their (own) territory because they would not make hard choices.” Mrs. Clinton spoke with ABC-TV’s Robin Roberts on American national television, and also at a public function organized by the International Crisis Group. Later, the former Senator and First Lady made other critical remarks concerning Nigeria at a philanthropy parley, as she was widely quoted by several American media outlets, including CNN. Clinton stated the following position in the New York events she attended, challenging the credibility and quality of the country’s leadership under President Jonathan’s watch. “The seizure of these young women by this radical, extremist group, Boko Haram, is abominable, it’s criminal, it’s an act of terrorism, and it really merits the fullest response possible, first and foremost from the government of Nigeria. “The Nigerian government has failed to confront the threat, or to address the underlying challenges. Most of all, the government of Nigeria needs to get serious about protecting all of its citizens and ensuring that every child has the right and opportunity to go to school,” she said in her address to the function organized by the International Crisis Group. “Every asset and expertise should be brought to bear. Everyone needs to see this for what it is, it is a gross human rights abuse, but it is also part of a continuing struggle within Nigeria and within North Africa,” she added. |

Doctors in India have extracted 232 teeth from the mouth of a 17-year-old boy in a seven-hour operation. Ashik Gavai was brought in with a swelling in his right jaw, Dr Sunanda Dhiware, head of Mumbai's JJ Hospital's dental department, told the BBC. The teenager had been suffering for 18 months and travelled to the city from his village after local doctors failed to identify the cause of the problem. Doctors have described his condition as "very rare" and "a world record". 'Small white pearls' "Ashik's malaise was diagnosed as a complex composite odontoma where a single gum forms lots of teeth. It's a sort of benign tumour," Dr Dhiware said. "At first, we couldn't cut it out so we had to use the basic chisel and hammer to take it out. "Once we opened it, little pearl-like teeth started coming out, one-by-one. Initially, we were collecting them, they were really like small white pearls. But then we started to get tired. We counted 232 teeth," she added. The surgery, conducted on Monday, involved two surgeons and two assistants. The team was led by Dr Vandana Thorawade who heads the hospital's ENT (ear, nose and throat) department. Ashik now has 28 teeth. Describing Ashik's case as "very rare", Dr Dhiware said she had "not seen anything like this before in my 30-year career", but said she was "thrilled to get such an exciting case". "According to medical literature available on the condition, it is known to affect the upper jaw and a maximum of 37 teeth have been extracted from the tumour in the past. But in Ashik's case, the tumour was found deep in the lower jaw and it had hundreds of teeth." Ashik's father Suresh Gavai was quoted by the Mumbai Mirror as saying that his son complained of severe pain a month ago. "I was worried that it may turn out to be cancer so I brought him to Mumbai," he said. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-28437829

Mogidi: Boko haram, the APC's armed wing has been doing this for years, anyway I just hope the APC hierarchy has not approved this one. It won't be out of place for the local APC members to resort to bank robbery to fund Osun election.. It's only because I know animals can't write but some of these comments you read on social media one would think they are written by donkeys" |

By SaharaReporters, New York A group of anti-corruption protesters was today in Abuja confronted by armed hoodlums escorted by the police to frustrate a public protest aimed at forcing the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, to resign from office. The Minister is facing a public uproar over her scandalous purchase of BMW armored cars from a cash-strapped agency in her ministry. Dino Melaye, a former member of the House of Representatives, led the protest, but the protesters were attacked by the crowd who claimed they were there to ‘support’ the Minister. The police arrested several protesters, including Mr. Melaye, saying he was leading an "illegal protest". He was taken in a car to the office of the Commissioner of Police office where he was taken into custody. The police also seized vehicles belonging to the anti-corruption protesters, claiming they were obstructing traffic. A contingent of police officers also prevented the protesters from leaving the Federal Secretariat area where they had gathered for the protest to the Aviation ministry. Unlike the protesters, the police did not harass the armed hoodlums.[img][/img]

I admire the OP's love for Nigeria. It's touching. I love it as well but I gave up when the fish in Titus "Sardines" reduced to 2. Oh Lord, we need Goodluck in this country. But not as human being. |
We nigerians sometimes behave as if they don't know what they want, hypocritical position on issues hardly allow them define issue. Instead of us to question the clueless government who have fail in their part protect us from this ugly incident, we are ranting against eachother. We may continue to cut our noses to spite our faces thanks to those who lack political sophistication and simplistically see everything along sectional and ethno-religious lines but the remains, JONATHAN GOVERNMENT IS A FAILURE. |
